Classic Monster Got The Girl Poster for BATMAN BEGINS! Too Cool!
Hey folks, Harry here - just got back from THE INTERPRETER - a really damn fine U.N. suspense thriller. I got about 20 folks dropping this in my mailbox - and folks, I dig it. I'm a little tired of the sepiatone colors of this series of posters, but Warner Brothers - going all the way back to their vintage classic film days - they weren't about striking eye-grabbing domestic one-sheets... However, they were all about the titles, stars and talents to grab ya - and this film has all that, plus a sweet as hell classic "Monster got da girl" poster... only this time it's the hero that looks like a monster poster. For me, I kinda always wanted a HELLBOY one-sheet holding a flaming Selma Blair as Abe comes up out of the sewer at his feet all menacingly Black Lagoon-ish. Heh. I think my fave of this teaser poster campaign is the one of him gliding with the tornado of bats around him. To all those that sent this, thanks - for the rest of ya - I have to say - after those two 30 second spots that I saw finally got me excited for the film. Now if only I saw a trailer that got me jazzed for the FF!

Who is the broad, Katie Holmes? BATMAN BEGINS...to abduct star
by grabthars_hammer

This is my odds on favorite for quality this Summer. No one expects much from Fantastic Four or Star Wars. War of the Worlds will probably be good but Spielberg's recent flicks have often been plagued by his inability to fish out sentimentality and just tell a good, edge story. This trailer for this just has so much noir to it. This looks like it could really be the Batman movie we've wanted to see all this time. Granted this is the age of soulless corporate Hollywood, where product placement and star fucking are more important than story. But Batman Year One is one of my favorite graphic novels. So I appease all ye Gods again. Here my plea. Don't let David Goyer fuck this up like Blade: Trinity!

Come on, moviemack... you know you want to post on this talkback
by kdog69
...but just in case you don't, allow my to simulate the experience for other talkbackers:
Hi, I'm moviemack. I completly hate this film and think Goyer can't write anything good even though he turned out great films such as Dark City and Blade. I have not seen this movie but I know that it will suck, because I read an extreamly early first draft of the script and I didn't like it. Even though opinions on good films vary, I still say this film sucha and damn anyone who disagrees with me. I love to nit-pick on little details such as the scarcrow on a horse (even though he rides a horse multiple times in the comics, including in Long Halloween). I want this movie to potray batman how I see him and no one else, because my opinion is better than all of yours. I also think that all superheros are stupid and think that everyone should agree with me, because I am always right. All superhero films suck including X-men even though countless people love this film and others like it. blah blah blah....bitch bitch bitch.
End simulation. -

and apparently Blade Trinity sucked even more, but I didn't see it. I hope Goyer doesn't direct the Flash.

Seeing as how every movie magazine I've seen has shown BM carrying her in that pose with her eyes open a la dead chick. Fuckers. And that poster is even better over a week after it first turned up on countless other sites. Lie.
-
This is surely a fake, my 8 year old son could do better.
-
It will take a miracle for Fantastic Four not to receive the Golden Turkey Award for 2005. It is rare that a trailer actually makes physically me cringe.
-
i'm bloody impressed. what a cast though. surely it's gotta be good with those names...
-
Give it a rest. This is news to me. Not everyone checks every single film site on the net.

I assume Nolan revised the draft to take out any spam ('cough' blade 3 'cough') that Goyer may have left in?

I know 10 guys that can paint better than this. Obviously fake...and if not, well that's just sad.

This is the first I've heard of this. I knew the rumors that Nolan was revising on set, but a full credit listed? First, even? (does that mean anything?). Heh, maybe I (a lot of us!) haven't ruined the movie by reading that online script after all...

by moviemaniac-7
But despite this being an 'old' poster, I like the look of it (and all the previous ones).
-
Aragorn100, yeah I heard a while back that Green Day were providing Boulevard Of Broken Dreams as the main theme song. Yes, it sounds utterly ridiculous; I just wonder it's still going ahead. Anyone?
-
Yeah - so I'm a comic book geek - of sorts. I used to read Batman from when Jason Todd (post Crisis) was initiated to when Azriel took over (buying enough back issues to get a good understanding of the character).
It seems to me that the closest there has, so far, been to a Batman film was in the 60s; in that this film quite closely represented the style, and continuity of the comic books of that period.
Presently I consider Batman to be the character as presented in - and evolved from 'Batman Year One'. I also consider this to be the character's origins. I certainly consider Batman to be a character with solidly determined , and oft commented upon, characteristics. And that should those characteristics be absent then it is not Batman - but 'Batmanish'.
To my mind, (and I know it is petty lame - and been said so many times before) the character refered to as Batman in the 80s/90s films is not Batman.
The costume doesn't look like Batman's, the origin story is not that of Batman's, the character does not act like Batman - so in what way is this Batman?
I don't mind them changing the story a bit - after all Year One is not exactly how Kane and Finger wrote it - things change. But a RUBBER SUIT??? Yes - at the end of the day I am a rubber-suit hater. That is all. -
And do you think Bruce calls his baked goods 'guano'? I know if I was batman I would do it all the time. What concerns me about this poster, though, is not Batman getting hit by guano, but look at poor Katie Holmes. It's almost like Batman is holding her in that position to purposely fill her mouth and nostrils with steaming guano. Not to mention a bat confusing her nipples as a spider or something. Ouch.
-
the designer must have got his kid to put it together on Photoshop, terrible work...
-
and flop at the box office. I mean, there's just no heat on this film. If it hits the right tone and everything is executed... and it still doesn't make money, Hollywood will never trust directors to narrow their vision on these films. We'll continue to get "broad" superhero movies that never quite capture feel we anticipate.

I work in the place that designs many of these posters (not this Batman, but movie posters generally.) And I can tell you that this is a fake. Sorry guys, to digital in all the wrong spots. Look at a at in the foreground. Professional companies wouldn't go for the auora around them. Also, in most cases we are contractually obligated to do certain things, in this case, Katie Holmes' breasts would be de-emphasized through shaddows or the blurring like there is around her head. It is kind of like the o rule about not showing an actor holding 2 guns on a poster. But done to be family friendly. I have seen the picture this was taken from though, and it is an excellent choice, in that photo her nipps are clearly visable. Good photoshop though.
-
to the talkbackers. See film first then judge. I am sick of the way the media/internet media pounds a movie into the ground, take catwoman.
But there are of course exceptions like that film with Ben affleck and that christmas comedy with Tim Allen.
I rented this movie out on DVD because the media buzz on the movie was that it was a disaster, that it was a catastrophe.
So I rented the movie out on DVD out of curiosity. Was the film a right off? I thought it was fun, silly movie, i thought the Visuals were great, the story was dumb but then arent all action movie stories.
Some of the comment on Catwoman from the media including Ebert and Roper boarded on Racist, sexist and in the case of the director europhobic and I ended up thinking there problem is that females cant be Superheroes that only blokes should do that. What will they make of Basinger if she stars as wonderwoman, they will say she is too old or something stupid.
I will be going to see Batman and I will make up my own opinion after seeing it.
I will not base by opinion on who it was written by who it stars or what what studio made it. As much as i hated batman and robin and i did, I got over it because, Its only a film.
I know someone who will not go to a film with a certain actor like mat damon. Which I think is petty.
End of Rant! -
Let's begin this motherfucker!
-
Well said the man above! (Not God, the last poster)
I saw catwoman on a flight a few months back and was prepared for a film of such dreadfullness to rival.... gulp..... Batman & Robin. What I actually saw was about 90 mins of enjoyable enough hokum which was fine for whiling away part of a flight. Yes, it wasn't 'catwoman' the comic book character, which is where I think all the prefilm backlash came from. Fuck, at least it wasn't as bad as Daredevil. And wait till you see Man Thing. Now 'that' is crap!

...to kdog69 thinking he was moviemack. Good impression, man. On the poster, it's the first thing I've seen from this movie that hasn't sent up my bat signal, as it were. It just looks kind of hokey to me. I'm sure it's an image taken totally out of context and designed to appeal to the romance novel demographic, but I'd personally rather see a conventional comic-book-cover version of the damsel in distress, being menaced by the villain (Scarecrow, I would imagine) and Batman rushing in to the rescue. It wouldn't even have to be an actual image from the film, that would get me all jazzed for the comic noir feel the movie is obviously going for. This leads me to believe there will be a scene where it will be safe for me to duck out of the theater and pinch a guano loaf and obtain some snacky treats (not all in the same stop, naturally). But everything else I've seen and heard has me pretty excited for this movie. So we'll see.

every once in while a great new term is formed and that my friend is classic. although there has to be some alteration to it to capture the "eurotrash" aspect of it, cuz while I will admit I am a "europhobe" its not all euros I am phobic of, just the eurotrash ones, but "eurotrashaphobic" just doesnt roll off the tongue like "europhobic" does. never saw catwoman, not out of my europhobia (Pitof? come one that just screams "mock me". maybe that name will work if you paint, sculpt or drape buildings and parks in cloth (thats passes as "art" - fuck I got drapes at home someone pay me) but as a director of some piece of shit action movie?? Fuck you right in your Pitof - pretentious fuck) but out of aversion to crappy movies. I know a lot of Daredevil bashing (i know all of our personal tastes vary but can't we all agree that it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible?)goes on here but come on Catwoman better than Daredevil? Really? Are you sure? Was the cabin of the plane you saw that movie on fully pressurized?
-
Don't like it. Makes me wonders if the movie will also include werewolves. The last one of him standing alone gazing downward was much better. Has no impact on me anyhow, since they already have my money.
-
I have gotten used to the amount of pre-judging of movies before they come out on this site its just a fact of life. but how the fuck do you judge a movie by its poster? how the fuck do you judge an ACTION movie by an early draft of the (real?) screenplay you read? even judging a movie by a trailer nowadays isn't easy. But can't we all agree that this movie, even if Nolan and Goyer shat it out, will be Citizen fuckin Kane to the abominiations Schumacher subjected us to. Not only were those movies terrbile but they were a waste of talent and characters. If you are trying to build a franchise why the fuck are you using two villains in one movie? (in the case of B&R three villains, including Bane) Why are you gonna change your Batman every movie? (At least Bond does us the courtesy of letting each generation identify with a Bond before moving on)And why am I asking all these rhetorical questions when I know Hollywood is all about the almighty $. If there was a handbook on how to create jaded movie-goers WB would defintely write the intro. But it seems with this movie they are at least finally attempting to travel the right path - love the cast, love the director and the writer has his moments. I am thinking the majority of us will be satisfied. and on a final note am I the only one that wants to do dirty, foul, nasty things to innocent looking katie?

The problem is that there has never been a really good Batman movie. The first one was watchable, and the rest we conned ourselves into watching due to our love of the character, in the hopes of getting the movie that actually gets it right. We sat through Jack Nicholson falling into a vat of chemicals and coming out... Jack Nicholson re-enacting every Jack Nicholson performance ever, only in makeup. We sat through Penguin falling into a vat of penguins, Catwoman falling into a vat of cats and being licked back to life, Riddler as a man who controls brainwaves, a giggling purple Two-Face, the "have an ICE day" Mr. Freeze, and a mentally retarded Bane. Finally the fans said enough is enough. Sadly, they just didn't go different enough on this new one. The fans want a clean break from the Burton-Schumacher era, but the ad campaign and costume design make it look like a prequel to Batman and Robin. It's just gonna be another movie about a Batman that can only move his elbows and knees due to his rubber tire bodysuit. This is one of those films that had it been made years ago, and made much better than what we're getting, we'd all have hailed it as the next best thing to a new Star Wars (just like Alien Vs. Predator could have been). Everyone's gonna walk out with a weak smile as they try hard to like it, and will never watch it again.

I havent seen Man thing as it hasnt been released yet. I do agree about daredevil, I think the only good thing to come out of that was Jennifer Garner, but they of course ruined that franchise!
What is it about ben affleck and why did it take three awful movies and i havent seen Jersey girl, for him to realise what a wooden actor he is. This guy destroyed the jack ryan franchise after all!!! -

by jdanielp
First off, let me say that if the Green Day song is (in fact) used for the opening credits, then the music should morph into full orchestra. An obvious suggestion, to be sure. (Perhaps the orchestration should continue in the style of the song. And who better to do that than Danny Elfman?) Secondly, I have NO PROBLEM (what-so-ever) with the rotation of actors who have portrayed Batman (thus far), as I compare it to how individual comic book artists put their own unique visual stamp on the characters. Also, I have no problem with a Director applying his own unique visual interpretation, as long as it is mostly faithful to the comics at some point in history. (We all draw the line in different places, crossing it in just as many.) What I mostly have a problem with is when a Batman movie strives to be too many things ... and is made for all audiences. "Focus" should be the name of the game. Don't mix the cartoon "Superfriends" Batman with my "BATMAN: YEAR ONE", you understand? I don't care if Batman has lenses or eye-holes ... as long as the Direction is clear, faithful to one source or another ... and of course, the movie is well-made. Choose your audience Warner Bros. and don't hold back. -- I just hope you've made "BATMAN BEGINS" with that exact point-of-view.

by ribbons
What's the point, really? At least tell me that a romance intrigue was encouraged by the producers and David Goyer hasn't spent enough time in Hollywood to think it was a good idea to add "something for the ladies." How's that old saying go about trying to appeal to everyone and ending up appealing to no one? Actually, I guess that kind of is how it goes...nevermind. But anyways!! I hear tell that Batman mulls over giving up his cape and cowl over this chick. If I want angsty romance in my superhero movies, I'll check out 'Spider-Man.' To paraphrase a line from that series, most stories are about a girl. Batman isn't one of them, however nice a rack she may have. Goyer knows this too, or at least he'd better if he loves Batman as much as he claims to.

I agree with JDanielP, it doesn't matter if he has a rubber suit, eye holes or lenses, or whatever. *One* of the things that messed up the last two Bats movies was the lack of focus. Those movies were just all over the place and needed to be more specific.
I'm looking forward to Bats Begins and I'm reserving my judgement on it until I walk out of the theatre at the end. -
To ALL posters uttering the words "bad photoshop-job, my 12-year-old could do better" or something like that: I'm DYING to see some of your work. I bet my left foot that half of you have never even cropped a pic. And in regards to THIS artwork: looks pretty damn good to me, but more importantly it is a nice link to those classic posters, like Harry said. My favorite: Forbidden Planet.
