UPDATED INFO: Teaser Trailer for DAYWATCH, the Russian Sequel to NIGHTWATCH Debuts OnLine!

Published at:  Apr 11, 2005 5:38:03 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a real live Russian citizen geek with the lowdown on the future of the series, origin of this series and what is said at the beginning of the trailer below:

Hi Harry

Seeing that you are so excited about the whole Nightwatch business,
I've decided to enlighten you on the whole Nightwach/Daywatch business.
The series is based on three books: Nightwatch, Daywatch and
Twilightwatch. Each book consists of three different sub-novels (each
having its own story, but only the final third reveals the whole
devious plot of the heads of the Nightwach and the Daywatch). So
in fact there will be nine movies in the series and if all goes well
Daywatch and Twilightwatch will be filmed in Hollywood (info from the
writer's homepage) So far there are two more Nightwach movies instore.
I've heard that all three were filmed back to back (in fact a friend of
mine have seen the reels with Nightwatch 2 and 3) and its only a
matter of post production before they will be put on screen.

As for the ad for the Daywatch (which is not realy Daywatch, but
Nightwach 2), it does consist of the images from the first picture, but
thats only because (as the voiceover says) in summer 2005 70
countries and millions of people will see the first movie, while the
russians will see the second one. One hell of a franchise :)) So in
theory they'll keep showing them in movie theatres (at least in
Russia) every summer for the next eight years or so.

That's all for now

Hey folks, Harry here with a treat for you lovers of foreign cinema. The Kino-Govno.Com site in Russia has posted an AVI of DAYWATCH. This, of course, aggravated the hell out of me, because the specific codec to play that file on a Mac... apparently isn't to be found. SO - I had a friend, Roro, convert the file to a MPG for all of us without the specific codec necessary. DAYWATCH is still in post-production and hasn't been released yet. It isn't due out in Russia till the end of September. Hopefully Fox Searchlight will get it stateside faster than they have with NIGHTWATCH, but with the same level of quality. Anyway - here's the files:

Hey Harry, how is Princess of Mars coming along? Looks like Nic

    by harry coin

The world needs half naked Martian Princess being swashbuckled. I know it sucks that Rodriguez was forced to drop out, but if Nick can get a movie about a prehistoric shark fast tracked (although with a shitty director attached), a John Carter of Mars movie ought to be a slam dunk.

It seems like the official title is NIGHT WATCH 2. Empire magazine calls it NIGHT WATCH 2 - CHALK OF FATE, so that might be the entire title. I don't care. I just wanna see it, and probably won't until a DVD surfaces. Christmas, maybe?

    Captain Sulu/Judge Doom

    by mfluder

As Mr Brownstone has pointed out already, AVIs can in fact be played on Macs (that's Mac, not MAC, Judge Doom) using VLC or Mplayer (a simple search by the fat one on versiontracker prior to posting would have solved that). Judge Doom; I can't tell you why people in general use a Mac (or a PC for that matter), but I can tell you why I do, 'they work' and are not under constant attack from the thousands of virii, DOS or Zombie attacks etc' that currently plague windows users (largely because of grand incompetence on the part of Microsoft). And, finally, to Captain Sulu; Thanks for letting us all in on your raging homophobia, but you know what that REALLY says about you, right?

    MPlayer OS X 2

    by wchblade

If you're going to rock in style on a G5 with the entire adobe CS sweet and some kick ass digital video editing software you'll need MPlayer OS X 2 for stuff like this and of course the mounds of porn stashed on your HD. lol

This little free app works better and more often then VLC which does well on it's own though.

Lame trailer made by a blind man

    by fight-clubber

I have to say the russaisn really dont no how to make trailers. Same went for night watch there trailer felt like a day long and looked shit. Then you get some1 with some talent from america to do the trailer and the film suddenly looked great.
I hope the same american trailer skill goes to day watch as of now it looks shit apart from a few flashy shots.

But seeing that im not russian that never helps!

I don t get the comparison between a Mac and an LP , I mean, Win

    by windowlicker74

If you need a computer for professional use, then you buy a Mac. If you want to download porn or Spyware XXVII, then you can rely on a PC. it s that simple. there s not even room for discussion here. THE FAGGOTS ON THE MACS RULE HAHAHAH!!

    Reply to Talkback

  • ... they know bugger-all about PC-based applications and tend to think that because their macs cost a shit load more money and all their apps are overpriced that they are somehow better. They are not. PC's caught up with macs about 18 months ago in terms of speed/reliability. Mac users are just pissed-off because, through the use of p2p networks, pc-users can get their software/movies/music for gratis. And saying you'll get infected with viruses just through using the internet is no longer a valid argument. Well, not for those who remember to keep their security up-to-date.

And - just for the record - Harry's dismissal of p2p's and blaming of them for 'killing the industry'... hogwash! The net can make or break a release. Take 'Shaun of the Dead' for example. Would it have been such a massive hit if that screener hadn't been leaked so all the fanboys could pass their judgement, thereby ensuring a stateside release. The same has happened with Dead Man's Shoes in the U.K. It was only on limited (arthouse) release for two weeks but the leaking of a print to the net has ensured that the true cinephiles got behind the best British movie in ten years. File-sharing has it's disadvantages for the big-bucks movie industry (natch), e.g. Van Helsing (killed stone-dead by advance word-of-mouth), in that it is the supreme bullshit-filter with enough power to kill a studio, but for films like D.M.S.(on a $1m budget), it definitely helps to sort the wheat from the chaff. Now then, who's going to put a decent rip of 'My Summer of Love' on emule so we can spread the word on another classic. Keep well. I love you all.

    Speaking from experience...

    by scrivener

Macs are the most fucking worthless pieces of technological shit imagineable. Having survived a Mac-centric graphic design college, I am speaking from experience. The OSX workflow is just hideous... especially when juggling several programs. At the moment Apple and Adobe are in a battle to control every possible design application. Adobe being the champion of the PC, and Apple being the greedy monopolistic money whores they are. At the moment there is not a goddamned thing the Mac can do that the PC can't do better, faster, and cheaper. When it comes to film, the industry relies on Avid - not Apple. Hence, voicebox5's statement is complete bullshit. When I'm not using my school's Avid machines, I'm using Premiere on my home PC, which meshes infinately better with Photoshop and After Effects than Final Cut could ever dream of. The idea that publishing and film industries rely on Macs is a myth. Apple is a master of marketting their product to people with money, and their computers sure do look purdy, don't they? But in all practicality, PCs are so incomprehensibly superior, it boggles the mind to think that anyone would use a Mac for anything - let alone design work. As a final note, programs on Powerbook and G5 lock up exponentially more often than anything on my PC. I get angry just thinking about all the projects my Mac has destroyed. Mac stability is also a myth. I only use my Mac when I absolutely have to... and thank god, that isn't very often.

    by scaryjim

the fact tho is that pc's can be tailored to your needs whereas macs barely can and cost a grand more for the equivalent of the same computer power . Anyway what i really wanted to say was where the fuck can you get the nightwatch books > i've been to the guys website but he doesn't have a link , i've done googles ... it was a massive selling trilogy in russia .. WHERE THE FUCK CAN U GET THE BOOKS ?

    wasn't all that.

    by samuraisix

i caught it on nicheflix and the subtitles made sense, but the movie was over-stylish. the concept i really liked. it was like, average-shlubs-dealing with the daily supernatural, but some of it meandered for too long and the epic battle seemed a bit small after LOTR and other huge flicks. Good try, though.

....but that seems insufficiently inflammatory for this board, so I've decided to go with 'Macs are the AOL of hardware'. Trailer stunk, by the way.
