Bruce Campbell speaks about his book, BUBBA NOSFERATU, SPIDEY 3 and more!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some tidbits about what is going on in The Chin's world. Bruce Campbell has made the rounds, it seems, showing THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN and doing his usual college Q&A stuff. Up first is a report from a Campbellite named "Uncle Max" who brings us the word from the man-god himself regarding his upcoming slate of flicks, including some good news for us BUBBA HO-TEP fans! Let's get to that and I'll meet you at the bottom of this report to intro the next one.
Hey Harry -
Though it's nothing terribly shocking and new, I thought you might be interested in what's up in Ash's world. I had the amazing opportunity to attend a talk by Bruce Campbell here at Northeastern University in Boston on Saturday night. The most relevant stuff came out of the Q&A at the end of his talk; while he basically asked up front to refrain from anything about /Evil Dead IV/, there were some cool tidbits about other projects that came up.
* Bruce starts his 40ish-city book tour in June. This time, it's
"Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way," a book that has something to
do with relationships. I've heard it's a fictional how-to book,
but lord only knows what he'll come up with.
* Although jokingly, Bruce said he will be someone who "annoys the
hell out of Tobey Maguire" in /Spider-Man 3/, when asked if he
will appear in Sam Raimi's third webslinger flick.
* Plugs for /Sky High/ and /The Woods, /though no new information
And perhaps the biggest tidbit of the night...
* /Bubba Nosferatu/ (aka /Bubba Ho-Tep 2) /lives! He said there are
currently two production houses interested in footing the bill, so
he and Don Coscarelli are "waiting to see how many zeroes we can
squeeze out of them." The King will return!
Those were the big things. I do have to say that Bruce is awesome to see talk. He came with a prepared lecture, which not many people in the audience expected. He started off brilliantly, using the trick most speakers use by 'getting to know the locale,' but instead of finding some tidbit about Boston he decided to share, Bruce found and recited the Massachusetts state poem, then treated us to 15 minutes of his personal favorite codes and regulations of the city of Boston, including those about dogs, manure, and coal houses. A lot of people found this a little odd, but I thought it was brilliant; not many people could make that stuff amusing. In his actual speech, he lashed out a little at Hollywood's lakc of originality over the past few years, mocking the abundance of sequels, remakes, and sequels to remakes that come pouring out. "The way things are going, the next thing you'll see is a remake of /The Evil Dead! ... /uhh..." He also picked through TV's tendancy for spinoffs of spinoffs of spinoffs (a la /Law & Order/ and /CSI/) and the reality show craze as writers running out of ideas. Most of his comments were greatly appreciated by the students in attendance. He was gracious enough to sign some autographs ater the talk, and I can only imagine what little tidbits came out there. I got to tell him my /Evil Dead/ story (long story short, it's the reason my girlfriend and I are together, as frightening as that may sound), and confirmed that the book tour will definitey be hitting Boston this summer.
I don't know why this guy isn't the star his fans know he should be. He packed 200 students into our tiny on-campus nightclub, and there was a veritable army of people still waiting outside who didn't make it in. Their loss was my enormous gain. I hope this gave you some tiny little tidbit of new satisfaction.
Keep the site groovy,
"Uncle Max"
Pretty exciting, eh? I've been hearing good things about a BUBBA sequel as well. Let's hope the filmmakers get everything they need to deliver a bigger, badder, fatter Elvis fightin' some more undead sacks-a-shit! The next bit is a small look at THE MAN WITH THE SCREAMING BRAIN straight from the drunken fingers of "spider rico"... or rather spider rico's poor girlfriend. You'll also find more Bruce-isms from Campbell's appearance at this screening in Philly. Enjoy!
i hate everybody. im a horror fan in philadelphia, that never gets these kind of pleasures, when bruce campbell shows up, you know, its an important thing. he came to our smaller town in philadelphia to premier a movie that, you know, he talked about when it came out, everyone went crazy you know. he talked for a minute and introduced his movie, "the man with the screaming brain, and told us this was the first time anyone has ever seen it. all i have to say is stacy keach is the mad scientist. ted raimi is his assistant. and there is a lot of bruce campbell reintereating the evil dead 2 possessed hand and body role. the movie is horrible and funny in a really really really bad b movie way. its everything you want bruce to be. i really dont want to tell you the plot cuz there is none. its up there with plan 9 from outer space, but in a good way. afterwards, bruce came out and denounced all freddy v. jason v. ash. he said that it was the worst idea ever made. and he wouldnt talk about evil dead 4. he said that ah, the man with the screaming brain would be out on the sci fi channel in the fall. and the dvd would be out in january.
spider rico.
(notice: this letter dictated to my girlfriend who typed it cuz i am drunk)

Actor Frank Langella, who once chilled moviegoers as Count Dracula, has stepped into the role of Superman's boss, Perry White, in Bryan Singer's upcoming comic book adventure "Superman Returns" for Warner Bros. Pictures.

You can hardly tell spider rico dictated that email drunk. Was his girlfriend drunk too, or just retarded?
-
He is doing the voice for the new EA 007 game, "From Russia With Love". They are going to you his face too...well...His likeness at least...
How cool is that... -
I found it terrible boring. I don't remember much action-packtion.
-
He fits so perfectly for Templeton Beck. His character is always tied to performing in some way- First as a sleazy ring announcer, then as a jerk usher. He's so perfect for the Mysterio character, and it would be a great little continuity wink to have him end up being one of Spider-Man's nemesis after being one of Peter's major pains in the ass for two films now.

Jesus, in my day your average geek snuck a beer out of dad's patio fridge, ran behind the greenhouse for a taste, and ended up making faces and dumping 80% of it all over the rose garden. Since when did you little fuckers become such a bunch of alcoholics? (And yeah, I say that as a recovering alcoholic -- slow down, guys... you'll live longer.) ;)

Bruce Campbell owes me 2 hours of my life back for ALIEN APOCALY
by commando cody
Let me get this straight: he's complaining about the lack of originality in Hollywood and spin-offs from CSI or LAW & ORDER (all of which are quality productions) while he chooses to go off and stars in "original" things like ALIEN APOCALYPSE? Give me a break -- at this point I have to imagine Campbell would kill to star (or even guest star) on any of those forementioned shows. Certainly given what he's been in of late. Man, what an utter shitfest ALIEN APOCALYPSE was! I had read the boards and was forewarned, I even broke out some hard booze to sat on the couch to watch it, prepared for it being bad...hell, I thought MANSQUITO had to be the absolute bottom the SciFi Channel could reach...but ALIEN APOCALYPSE made it look like freakin' high art. Bruce, I love ya, man, and I like seeing you in things. But after THAT latest piece of garbage you seriously owe me 2 hours of my life back. If you at least buy the burgers and beers all is forgiven...
-
caused me to turn the channel in shame. Is Bruce needing money that bad? It was worse than "Snakehead Terror". I enjoy a good "B" flick, but Apocalypse was just plain terrible.

Missed that word, too drunk.

Yes it was awful, but I still loved it. Man I was laughing my ass off, Aliens need WOOD! The Great Exterminator! Bruce was just Bruce in that and that's the only reason to watch. Of course I laughed everytime SciFi showed the Mansquito clip. I've seen better fan films online...

I have to chime in as well on Alien Apocalypse. That is as bad as it gets, even on made for Sci-Fi channel films. My God, that would've been shit in the 70's. Even if you have a suck-ass script, no budget and no cast, give the king of b-movie one-liners some dialogue to munch on. Maybe other than, "hey scumbag", there wasn't a line worth remembering from the man who's uttered so many of our favorites. Put aside the whole assumed crappiness of this movie and mourn the unforgivable misuse of Mr. Campbell. And yes, he should not be damning Hollywood for it's lack of creativity.
-
Bruce Campbell did a good job on Bubba Ho Tep but, let's be honest, the movie itself was terrible. True you can make a lot of cheap horror movies and it will sell on DVD to the kind of schmucks who post on this talkback and can't spell. But a guy walking around in a bad mummy costume just doesn't cut it anymore.
-
Man I saw this in Detroit with Bruce and a packed house. The movie rocked! Harker-Writes, I think you must have seen a different movie or you didn't get it. It was about redemption not a mummy, watch it again. The mummy is a small part of the movie. Send me you home address and I will send it to Joe Landsdale...

A few of my friends have seen and raved about Bubba Ho-Tep, and I finally caught it and thought the movie was garbage. Yes, Bruce was great, and that's all that kept me in the movie.
StudioPlant, it wasn't about "not getting it". I got it. I didn't think it was very good. And Ossie Davis' role was pointless. He was there for exposition and nothing else. -

by big bad clone
I saw a student film on Public Access with a wizard whose powers included malfuntioning roman candles up his sleeve and it was still better than Alien Apocolyse. However it wasn't a creature movie, Viva Rock Vegas or Liar Liar so it wouldn't fit on Sci Fi.

I was at the philly show, and Man with the screaming brain was o
by the beast
It was good, and I was glad I got to go, and even glader my friends all copped out, because I got to do something cool myself for a change and then brag about it. Bruce is a great guy, and he said Evil Dead 4 has been rehashed and most likely won't be happening. He also said to forget Freddy Vs. Jason vss Ash, and that it was a stupid stupid idea. Then he said, it really was a stupid stupid stupid idea. Some kid asked us in line what we were doing there, and I said, Bruce Campbell, and he said oh woow... who's that. I almost kicked his teeth in, until I realized we were in the International House, where forgeiners often stay to attend school at the U of P. Fuckin' forgieners...
-
But I'm kind of wondering why you even come here. You do know what this site is called, don't you?
-
Yeah, one of the brilliant questions somebody asked was about the mustache Bruce "wore" in the movie. He replied with a "wore? WORE?!" and proceded to tear into the kid who asked the question. He would later reference that goofy-ass question a couple more times. Just thought I'd let anyone know who was planning on asking him about any fake beards. He sounds like he tends to grow his own.
-
I mean I was real excited for them to really make Bubba Nosferatu, but that was when I figured Ossie Davis could return playing somebody else. Now unfortunately he has better things to do. I mean okay, the sequel could probaly still be good, but I wish it was at least acknowledged in the story that they are moving on without him.
-
Yes Hollywood is filled with sequels. Some of which star Campbell himself. And now he announces another to add to the mix. Fantastic.
So he's the Geek God then? Better add hypocrite to that too. -
Those of you calling Bruce Campbell a hypocrite are over-estimating his influence in Hollywood. This is not an A-list actor who can get movies made by attaching his name to scripts. BC is a hard-working actor who never had a cross-over hit so he is at the mercy of The System. Yes, he acts in sequels but maybe that is what Hollywood has to offer to most actors today. It does not mean that he has to like it.

I know it is a spelling mistake.
