'160-Odd Years Before Kirk Is Born'''STAR TREK XI Writer Pegs Prequel Era!!Then Claims Confusion!!

I am – Hercules!!

Erik Jendresen, head writer of HBO’s “Band of Brothers,” said the 11th Star Trek film he’s been hired to write will take place long before the era of Jonathan Archer. In fact, it would take place very near the invention of warp drive.

"We're going 160-odd years before Kirk is born,” Jendresen told SyFy Portal's Michael Hinman. “It's an earlier time, and I think it would be really refreshing to feel something in the course of telling this tale, instead of being wowed by special effects, or presenting another crew in jeopardy where, in the end, the captain does something brilliant, and all’s right with the world.”

The kicker is, Jendresen recanted the 160-year figure hours later. Did he really just pull that number out of his butt? Or did the powers-that-be decide he gave away too much?

Now is time for Trekkie math! According to continuity, Jim Kirk was born in 2233. Subtract 160 years, that puts us in the year 2073.

“Enterprise” takes place around 2150, so rumors that the eleventh Star Trek film will take place after the events of “Enterprise” could be really wrong.

Zefram Cochrane invented the warp drive (and Earthers first met the Vulcanians) in 2063. So if we go by Jendresen's original 160-year figure, Star Trek XI likely takes place soon after.

"I can certainly say that the story concept, the basic idea of this thing, is pretty damn big," said Jendresen. "It's a noble enterprise, pun intended."

Read all of Hinman’s piece, including Jendresen's new admission that he doesn't know from 160 years, here.
