I am – Hercules!!

I predicted this. Way back in May. I knew “House” would thrive after “American Idol,” as all decent Fox hourlongs do (though “House” is considerably better than decent). Ah, if only Fox gave “Wonderfalls” the same benefit last year.

House joins “Lost,” “Medium” and “Battlestar Galactica” among new Herc favorites snagging early second-season pick-ups.

I love this show. Did you see the one where they misdiagnosed the mystery ailment several times and nearly killed the patient before figuring out what was wrong with him and saving his life? It was the one where House was rude to that guy and Lisa Edelman was hot. See, that's the funny thing, that was every single episode, and I'm hoping that eventually they buy a new script, but this show is so good I can forgive the formulaic deja vu and enjoy it anyway. It, and Laurie, are really that good.

    "...and Lisa Edelman was hot."

Mmmmmm! I'd like to make her sick if you know what I mean. Have to say that House is rising above the problems of having such a, currently, strict formula due to it's sharp dialogue and the rare ability Hugh Lawrie has to make such an asshole so very likeable. Hopefully the next episode will have Stephen Fry turn up looking for a cure for his stagefright.

    Great news

    by tar heel

Great news, Herc. How about a regular "House" talkback now? For all you whiners complaining about the show's formula, similar formulas don't seem to hurt the popularity of "CSI" or all the cop shows out there.

    Thank you Tar Heel

That is exactly right. House rises above the mediocrity with good acting and good writing. As you can see, CSI Vegas has decided to try for the more bizzare shit and it has turned into a crapfest. Law and Order: Criminal Intent has a formula that works and is one of the best shows left on TV. Why? Because of good acting, good writing, and a smartass of a leading man who likes to mess with peoples heads. Sound familiar?

I hope that the Emmy's open up their clique and let this show win something.

  • After watching "House", I think Hugh Laurie would be perfect in that particular role. His physicality is just right for it, anyone who's seen the show knows he's got the acting chops, and his relative lack of fame would allow him to embody the character in audience's minds more. Any thoughts out there on this possibility?

Speaking of British actors playing Americans...

    by gislef_crow

...it's been announced that Stuart Townsend (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Queen of the Damned) will be playing reporter Carl Kolchak in Frank Spotnitz's pilot for Night Stalker. Gabrielle Union (City of Angels) to play his partner. Apparently Hugh Laurie was busy with...well, House. ;)

    House Sucks...

    by neojanus

but really it's very good. I love watch how the episodes play out. I wonder why they have to envoke such rare and improbable illnesses each time. Not to mention not everyone should get back to normal by episodes end. There should be more of hopeless causes, cause honestly when yo get something that hard to dianosis, you should be dead. Only dead patient so far was the hobo lady with Rabies. I mean who dies of rabies now and days. My only problem now is that I'm not sure whch to watch, Scrubs or House. I need a Tivo or whatever its called.

    HOUSE and WONDERFALLS

    by bubcus

I've only seen one episode of House so far... the one with the pitcher who breaks his arm. Absolutely loved what I saw of the show. I guess FOX can do something right in keeping at least one good show. I am still a little miffed over losing WONDERFALLS and keep wanting at least one more episode in that little world... (did buy the DVD boxset, though). But yeah, I agree that today's gems are HOUSE, MEDIUM, LOST, and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Much better than the annoying reality TV stuff (though I do like the first few episodes of American Idol where the looneys are showcased).

    Repetition of Theme

    by gislef_crow

The other thing to keep in ind is that Columbo has gone on for decades with the same basic repeat in theme. As Peter Falk noted, it ain't the theme - it's the variations the performers and directors introduce with each different performance. The story is the framework - it's what Laurie and the other cast members and the writers do within the frame that matters.
