Mind-Bogglingly Great New HITCHHIKER
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Wow. Wow, wow, wow. No, seriously, really a whole lot, wow. Disney has created a new Internet-only trailer for the upcoming release of THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY that should be the cornerstone of their entire campaign. It’s a brilliant riff on trailers in general, and it does a tremendous job of selling the movie at the same time.
Right now, you can see it at UGO, where it’s available in streaming format. I hear it could be online in sweeeeeeet sexy Quicktime by Monday, so keep your eyes peeled.
Go! Now! Check it out! Take your towel!
"Moriarty" out.

honestly i would give my left (smaller) nut to see this movie
-
having not ever read the book(s), I wasn't very interested in this movie. The two recent trailers have changed my mind. Looks REALLY good.
-
Well this just moved to the 2nd spot in my April must-see list. I love Alan Rickman's voice for Marvin. Great stuff.
-
AGH!
-
thanks!
-
Although making fun of the "In a world..." announced guy was done for Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian movie. This was still hilarious. Perhaps too in-jokey to appeal across the board, but they should send it to theatres anyway, because NO ONE is going to go see it based on the other trailers. People didn't go to see Galaxy Quest and that old trailer doesn't make it look much different. This trailer at least seems fresh. Anyone want to capture this and host it for downloading?

this movie is gonna be great

Now that's how a trailer should be made. Honestly, does anyone still think that this movie could possible stink? Think not! The Guide Will Rule!

by cornstalkwalker
oh and btw the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy trailer was cool too.
-
...A rare trailer that makes me wanna go see.
-
But that streaming is lame. I just reread the trilogy this past weekend, and I kept hearing Alan Rickman for all the Marvin parts. Truly brilliant casting on that end.
-
I'm now planning my life acordingly.
-
great trailer too
-
I was about to write that I'm still not sure about Zaphod as a hippie, but then I heard a little German voice in my head saying, "Vell, look... Zaphod's just zhis guy, you know...?"
-
This isn't even a class struggle...in some markets, bandwidth can't even be bought for all the tea in China. *** Someday, I'll figure out where the market is for a shitty, low-resolution postage-stamp-sized image that justifies the need for streaming as opposed to simply making available for download. *** Once again, FUCK YOU, GREEDY HOLLYWOOD SHITS.
-
Just like that great trailer about voice-overman this is very selfaware of its own stupidity. Great! And by the way, it looks gorgeous.
-
Smart ass and cool as hell! My birthday is April 30th and I will be celebrating it a day early by watching this movie AT LEAST 2 times in a row if not up to 4 times. Hey, wait a minute... 2 and 4... 4 and 2... 42... what does this mean?
-
Check out this site;

This is a movie site right...I email Harry these pics and they dont even rate a mention. There are some amazing pics from Episode 3 on that link! -
OK, maybe not THE best, but damn... and yes, I will be planning my life accordingly...

TPTB need to know that streaming sucks. I wait for a QT version
by caipirina
there are still people with limited bandwidth ... streaming is a pain .. not being able to download and play again and again does not make anyone happy ... QT is the only way to go

This is one of the best trailers I've ever seen for a movie. Stephen Fry's voice is excellent, and the way trailers have the piss ripped out of them is great. I hope Fry's voice features quite prominently in the movie, although Mori seemed to think otherwise. Rickman is another great casting choice and Marvin is gonna be pretty good as a result. I really hope this movie isn't going to be style and slapstick gags over substance. At the moment it looks promising.
-
That trailer was the most brilliant beautiful and clever movie trailer I have seen since, well, I guess Willie Wonka. I now can not wait for this movie.

by orionsangels
You know these moviegoers, the ones that are fed the same crap over and over again, but still somehow find it witty and exciting. You know, the ones who laugh at that one funny moment in a trailer, then when it happens in the actually movie, they laugh again as if they never saw it or they know when that scene from the trailer is about to appear. So they start saying, "oh here it comes!"
-
watched the trailer about 5 times, simply brilliant. Possibly yth best i've ever seen.
-
I got the joke, but it didn't work for me. It seemed to be "trying to hard". Maybe they needed to do this to grab people who haven't read the book. Either way, Disney still has my $10.

by i dunno
...or it could have been both of them, I don't listen to Seinfeld's stuff. Anyway, the trailer was awesome. Hopefully they'll show it in theaters. I can't believe they'd go through all that trouble just so, well pretty much the people who visit this site, can see it. They're preaching to the choir. Movie geeks on the net are already going to see it. And Alan Rickman kicks ass. Wow, two movies I've been waiting over a decade to see, in the same year. This and of course, that big sequel that everyone's talking about...Son of the Mask.
-
The way that it's a trailer that makes fun of trailers yet is still a sucessful trailer says almost everything great about the book that could be said. I just wish I could have seen it. That ugo link had a postage-stamp sized screen and crap video/audio but saying all that it's still the closest feel to the book I've seen so far.
-
awesome trailer, it should have been the theatrical... i'm assuming that, since i could barely make the thing out... you'd think for an INTERNET ONLY trailer they'd make it for the modern internet, and not 1998... jesus fucking christ, can they not have the option of a high quality trailer?!
-
It makes me angry that it was not the theatrical one. SO... ANGRY!!!!
-
...was Pablo Francisco. Not Seinfeld, Not Janeane Garafolo
-
Thanks, uh, horse... guy...
Thanks to that link, you can see some of the scenes in the end, instead of having them blow away my brain synapses.
It appears that at one point, the improbability drive turns the group into bobble headded dolls.
Excellent! -
They must think it's too quirky for the dumb shitheads of middle-America to understand but they really should take a chance and use it or this film will probably fail. It's possibly the best trailer I've yet seen with the exception of Fellowship of the Ring.
-
I love it! I'm even more excited now.
-
In fact it could be said that the replies are mostly harmless. And that trailer. What a trailer! It does exactly what it's supposed to do: get you all giddy and excited about a forthcoming flick. Absolute genius.
-
Because I come from the Netherlands, I can only watch the Oscars on the BBC. But this year Sky Channel has bought the rights. This means I can't watch it. Is there anybody who can help me?
-
That was witty, creative, charming, funny, and it looked good too. I saw the previous trailer and decided to skip this film, but after seeing this absolutely brilliant trailer, I'm actually eager to see this film! Now THAT'S effective marketing!

by iamjacksuserid
Must see this flick now.
-
I swear, that almost brought tears to my eyes. I was hyped to see it before but now I can't wait. That definitely should be the trailer in theaters! Marvin seems about perfect.
-
I HATE STREAMING VIDEO!! IT SUUCKSSS!!!(Insert exaggerated hiss here.) Why isn't there a Quicktime version available now! This lame-ass UGO Video player has no problem showing me a commercial. Then it tells me it's buffering (I hate buffering.) the trailer. AND THEN NOTHING PLAYS!!! It then proceeds to play the next commercial ahead of the next video that it won't play!!?! AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I hates me some streaming video. I do. I really do. * sigh *
-
You get this Software, Net Transport: http://www.xi-soft.com/default.htm
Then with Net Transport you put in the link to the movie. The movie will download to your PC and you won't have to whine about streaming playback, you can whine about how long it take to download.

Regardless of if you can download and save the trailer, it still doen't improve the quality...
GLORIOUS QUICKTIME FOR LYFE!!! yo. -
They weren't talking about stand-up acts. If yoou saw the trailer for Jerry Seinfeld's MOVIE "Comedian", he does a whole riff on the "in a world" thing by actually having the 'movie voice' guy in the sound booth.

... (and I don't mean to denigrate her at all by saying this) UGO's blurb that you've never seen or heard anything like this before is a little inaccurate. There's a guy in New York named Joe Giacoio (http://www.joegiacoio.com/) who does much the same -- frickin' dances with his guitar. Good looking, great voice, good songs, AND he's an item with Carla Urbach. It ain't fair. ;)

Thanks Alexandra.D, That really should be the theatrical trailer
by l.h.puttgrass
Why it isn't, I couldn't tell you. Maybe they don't like one trailer making fun of the others? They might think that will hurt the $ale of ticket$. Thanks again for the link.
-
That was a perfect trailer and really should be in theatres. Perfectly gets across the books humor.
-
Thanks for the links, guys . . . but it does no good if the picture's still too small to see.
-
This site does have some good pics that I have never seen. It also has a few short video clips of Obi-wan, Anakin, & Dooku with lightsabres. Two clips from the Dooku fight and one from THE Duel. All the pics are arranged in chronological order with subtitles describing the story (Of course, this is the site's opinion of the facts IMHO.). If you don't want to know anything about the movie before you see it, you might want to skip this just in case the site is right. In any case some of this stuff is very spoiler intensive. I don't know where this site got this stuff, but they seem to have a hook up from somewhere. I won't be surprised if this site gets pulled very soon. Just like the others... Thanks for the link DK.
-
I was turned off by the previous movie trailer, but this one is EXCELLENT! OK, I'm excited again for this movie. I should be, I think I read the books 1,693,742,133 and a half times. And that's only a rough estimate.
-
The best movie trailer ever! I laughed my tits off. They should show this is in theatres, never mind the Internet.
-
Loved it!
-
I click to the UGo website and theres a nice picture and link to the trailer but when i click the link it sends me right where I was. WTF? I hate bad web sites. And streaming video sucks too.
-
adblocker was blocking the pop-up

They should definitely put that in theaters.
-
This looks absolutely fantastic, puts that first trailer to shame.

"BEST TRAILER EVER!", "This is the way trailers should be made."
by themoog
Nice trailer but it doesn't give me goosebumps. Those trailers for Godzilla (Museum, Old guy fishing)were the best trailers. Independance Day's trailers set the standard. This trailer for THGTTG is fun but not the best ever. Give me a break. And why is it that every time there's a movie involving space everyone has to have an english accent. Fuck that! We needs some ebonics up in this mugg. Be-otches

Whew, I was getting worried for a minute. It's just not talkback until some jack-off starts spitting and screaming for no reason. This thread was just too civilized, it was starting to get unsettling. It was freaky enough having no moron saying "first". So that, combined with the absence of whiners and moaners was just too much for me to take. If talkback starts down that slippery slope, the next thing you know there will be coherent discussions happening here and nobody wants that.
-
You suck.
-
...truly fantastic. But doesn't it seem strange that, considering Adams was such a Mac freak (like me, I must say) the film makers are persistant in NOT releasing the trailers in Mac's own format? Conspiracy on Disney's behalf because of Jobb's connection to Pixar, perhaps? Hmmmm

I emailed Harry, but he refused to post the pics. Something is not right there.

Still a good trailer though.
-
Whomever decided to release this asstastic format of Windows Media streaming crap should be fired outright.
If I were the director of this film and/or the editor of this trailer, I'd demand their head on a platter for ruining all that hard work. -
... simply awesome!!
-
I went from "meh" about seeing this to "schwing" in under 2 minutes.

that was the funniest trailer i've ever seen. i haven't felt this good (about a movie) since i saw the return of the king trailer. holy crap, that was amazing. i literaly laughed my ass off. i can't wait for this!!!!!!

I thought there would be no way they could top the TV show. It was soooo perfect! But....I think they may have done it!!!! Can't wait to see it.

Anyone else having a problem playing the avi due to a missing codec? WMP can't seem to download it.
-
I just downloaded the avi from the site given by a talkbacker earlier (http://home.gotland.com/wisby/internettrailer.avi) and opened it in quicktime, it worked great. I don't know anything about wmp but it also worked using mplayer and vlc (both are free to download) so give that a shot.
-
Check out the UK version of the trailer at http://www.skymovies.com/skymovies/trailers
Very reminiscent of the television series, this is the best so far -
It keeps looking better and better. Stephen Fry is great as the Book. I love that they quoted the Eagles' "Journey of the Sorcerer," just like in the original radio series. And I'm really starting to like Sam Rockwell as Zaphod. Please, please don't let the studio fuck this up!
-
I'm on a Mac with the latest version of QuickTime. Actually, I liked the Sky one better anyway.
-
I decree that this motion picture will utterly satisfy... Hail Arrius!
-
http://doctor.3ivx.com/
Run the .avi through this program (Divx Doctor II); it should translate the audio codec into something your Mac can play. I have to do this all the time for .avi files on mine. -
you can play the avi http://home.gotland.com/wisby/internettrailer.avi using Mplayer on a Mac. i believe that this comes with Macs?
-
I've already got DivxDoctor installed.

Or whatever Dr. Farnsworth says.

THIS is what trailers CAN and SHOULD strive for. Captures the spirit of the source material to a T.

Fargin' awesome indeedy! Man, that captures Adam's zaniness perfectly and it IS one of the best trailers I've ever seen. An' thankee kindly Mr. Moaters man for the ride {[:^)
