Mind-Bogglingly Great New HITCHHIKER

Published at:  Feb 26, 2005 1:53:13 AM CST

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. No, seriously, really a whole lot, wow. Disney has created a new Internet-only trailer for the upcoming release of THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY that should be the cornerstone of their entire campaign. It’s a brilliant riff on trailers in general, and it does a tremendous job of selling the movie at the same time.

Right now, you can see it at UGO, where it’s available in streaming format. I hear it could be online in sweeeeeeet sexy Quicktime by Monday, so keep your eyes peeled.

Go! Now! Check it out! Take your towel!

"Moriarty" out.

    by lazarus long

Although making fun of the "In a world..." announced guy was done for Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian movie. This was still hilarious. Perhaps too in-jokey to appeal across the board, but they should send it to theatres anyway, because NO ONE is going to go see it based on the other trailers. People didn't go to see Galaxy Quest and that old trailer doesn't make it look much different. This trailer at least seems fresh. Anyone want to capture this and host it for downloading?

This isn't even a class struggle...in some markets, bandwidth can't even be bought for all the tea in China. *** Someday, I'll figure out where the market is for a shitty, low-resolution postage-stamp-sized image that justifies the need for streaming as opposed to simply making available for download. *** Once again, FUCK YOU, GREEDY HOLLYWOOD SHITS.

This is one of the best trailers I've ever seen for a movie. Stephen Fry's voice is excellent, and the way trailers have the piss ripped out of them is great. I hope Fry's voice features quite prominently in the movie, although Mori seemed to think otherwise. Rickman is another great casting choice and Marvin is gonna be pretty good as a result. I really hope this movie isn't going to be style and slapstick gags over substance. At the moment it looks promising.

You know these moviegoers, the ones that are fed the same crap over and over again, but still somehow find it witty and exciting. You know, the ones who laugh at that one funny moment in a trailer, then when it happens in the actually movie, they laugh again as if they never saw it or they know when that scene from the trailer is about to appear. So they start saying, "oh here it comes!"

Movie geeks on the net are already going to see it. And Alan Rickman kicks ass. Wow, two movies I've been waiting over a decade to see, in the same year. Darth Kong's Link

    by l.h.puttgrass

This site does have some good pics that I have never seen. It also has a few short video clips of Obi-wan, Anakin, & Dooku with lightsabres. Two clips from the Dooku fight and one from THE Duel. All the pics are arranged in chronological order with subtitles describing the story (Of course, this is the site's opinion of the facts IMHO.). If you don't want to know anything about the movie before you see it, you might want to skip this just in case the site is right. In any case some of this stuff is very spoiler intensive. I don't know where this site got this stuff, but they seem to have a hook up from somewhere. I won't be surprised if this site gets pulled very soon. Just like the others... Thanks for the link DK.

This thread was just too civilized, it was starting to get unsettling. It was freaky enough having no moron saying "first". If talkback starts down that slippery slope, the next thing you know there will be coherent discussions happening here and nobody wants that.

    codec

    by logofdoom

I just downloaded the avi from the site given by a talkbacker earlier (http://home.gotland.com/wisby/internettrailer.avi) and opened it in quicktime, it worked great. I don't know anything about wmp but it also worked using mplayer and vlc (both are free to download) so give that a shot.

    Yet another version!

    by dcervera

Check out the UK version of the trailer at http://www.skymovies.com/skymovies/trailers

Very reminiscent of the television series, this is the best so far

The Sky one is the best so far.

    by gul shah

It keeps looking better and better. Stephen Fry is great as the Book. I love that they quoted the Eagles' "Journey of the Sorcerer," just like in the original radio series. And I'm really starting to like Sam Rockwell as Zaphod. Please, please don't let the studio fuck this up!

I'm on a Mac with the latest version of QuickTime. Actually, I liked the Sky one better anyway.

    Dr. Sid Schaefer, try this:

Run the .avi through this program (Divx Doctor II); it should translate the audio codec into something your Mac can play. I have to do this all the time for .avi files on mine.
