Want to see REVENGE OF THE SITH First In New York & Feel Good About It!'!' Here's how to Attend The Premiere!
Hey folks, Harry here... Now sometimes one's passion for STAR WARS can be a costly habit. Many gung ho fans of the galaxy far far away have spent untold thousands on their collections, tattoos, costumes, therapy... well you know what you've done. Here's a chance to see the last one first. You'll walk past the amazing Ziegfeld line... it's the one that Conan's evil dog lampooned last time. You'll get the answers to the questions we fans have had forever. How did Luke and Leia get split up? Who did it? What was that final twist of a black knife that turned Anakin's soul? What made Yoda run? How did Obi Wan defeat Anakin? These questions are the lynchpins to Star Wars fandom. The reasons why our entire generation... no matter what they thought of the first 2 prequels... will be seeing this one. I wanted the answers to these questions for about 2/3rds of my life. Now, what if you could see it in one of the best theaters in the United States, at a red carpet premiere in the heart of one of the great cities in the world? And if all the money it cost went to help homeless children in need of health care? Well, here ya go...
Hi Harry
We haven't been as "with it" as we should be, but thanks to my 17-year old son, Christian, I now understand what we've been missing by not getting the information about our charity premiere at the Ziegfeld on May 12th of ROTS on your web site.
When I say "we", I mean the charity I work for and love, The Children's Health Fund (CHF). CHF was founded in 1987 by singer/songwriter Paul Simon and pediatrician/advocate Irwin Redlener, MD . It's a national organization committed to providing the finest quality health care to the most indigent children. Most are homeless. Many lack money or health insurance but we take care of them no matter what.
Back to the premiere: our theater is the Ziegfeld which ought to be cool because the infamous " line" will be in full swing at the same time we have our glitzy red carpet premiere. I must say we have had abundant media interest.
My interest is to sell tickets to raise money for the patients of CHF. We were so thrilled when George Lucas chose us as a beneficiary of one of the 10 charity premieres in the US.
The premiere will be for 1000 people and the after-party (location TBD) within walking distance of the theater is for 500 people and lots of incredible creatures. We want to do our own recreation of a nostalgic and quasi timeless Cantina scene there.
I am attaching information about the sponsorship packages available and some background about the charity as well. I'll also send you a media tip sheet--anything that will help you put a posting of our event and charity premiere on aintitcool.com.
BTW, individual tickets for just the premiere will go on sale in mid March and cost at least $500, maybe $600. $500 is what was charged in 2002 by the charity associated with Episode ll--so although it's not cheap, we can't go backwards.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email or call me. People can email us a StarWars@CHFund.Org.
All the best,
Gabrielle

i am in denial that this is the last one. what will i have to look forward to after this: the next spiderman movie? yipes. the last third in the scoobey doo trilogy? after this sumer i guess i'll have to grow up. damn

My birthday's coming up, hint, hint.
-
I hope some geeks with the scartch to buy these tickets decide to spend it here and not on toys. But us poor college students are gonna have to see it normal time, 12:01 am ...
-
I'm totally in denial that two of my favorite franchises, both of which have eight letters and starting with S-T-A-R, are going away forever.
Still, I've probably only seen 20% of the total programming that went into all five Star Trek series. With a coupla thousand bucks I can at least buy the DVDs. Or, more likely, not.
Why not? Because I'm too cheap to even spend $500 on a Star Wars ticket. And Star Wars is so much closer to my heart than Star Trek. Apples and oranges, I know, but that's my own personal take.
Why am I typing all this. How selfish I am, using this forum to think aloud. Apologies! -

...but I still find myself excited about this movie. Even after getting all geared up for the first prequel and being so bitterly disappointed. Even after hoping that the second would be better... almost had to be... only to be seriously underwhelmed by that as well... I watch the trailers for this thing and think about the very same things Harry mentioned and think "Wow! This could be the Star Wars movie I've been waiting for my whole life!" I've never thought of myself as the slow kid who needs to actually lick the hot stove after touching it twice just to make sure it was as hot as it seemed, yet here I am. I'll see this opening day. I just hope George appreciates how badly I want to forgive him for the last two-and-a-half crappy films he's made. I hope he's made this everything it could and should be. I hope it's so good it makes me want to watch the other two prequels again just to see how they set it up. I hope this time he doesn't pull that football away again just as I'm about to kick it.
-
I bought a General Grievous doll (I've decided to de-legitamize them by not calling them "action figures" anymore) and he's pretty sweet looking. Therefore, you are gay.
-
Look, if you have re-watched Episodes I and II and still hate them, you're not gonna like III. If, like me, you have gotten used to them and actually enjoy the hell out of them, you're probably gonna dig the next one. III is going to be consistent with the other films in this trilogy. It's going to be filled with goofy crap, it's going to have truly inspired moments, and it's going to be over-flowing with CGI. It's going to be Lucas-flavored. I'm really looking forward to it.
-
Excuse me chaps, I'm an Englishman, and a proud one at that. I've just finished reading Ian Fleming's fantastic series of James Bond books, in chronological order might I add, and I have also been listening keenly to the works of Led Zeppelin and Radiohead while watching re-runs of The Good Life and Open All Hours.
Now, I've been a Star Wars nut since I was a warm tingling sensation in my Father's nut, but having missed the chance to see New Hope and Empire Strikes Back in the cinema, and having to do with cutting my teeth on Return of the Jedi, I could see this as a chance to redeem myself bigly and watch SITH in New York.
Now bear in mind here that I have never been to a Premiere, never been to the US of A, and only have a cheap dinner jacket to wear, would you think it a good idea for me to attend?
I await your reposte with baited breath. -

How can someone sit down and rationalize it's not worth paying for a CHARITY to see a SW movie. It's because of your insensitive warped perception of this event that makes you think about the principle of it vice versa. It's just real bad form to say "I'm not paying $500-600 dollars to see a Star Wars film when it's really worth $10 bucks." Pull your heads out of your ass this goes to a charity... is it worth it to them?! This blows my mind when you people are so quick to be judgemental behind a monitor about anyone, even George Lucas, that it makes you look narrow minded. He knows his Star Wars films have a draw to them reguardless of how much you used to love them or now hate them because your 'childhood was raped'. He knows THESE films have become 'the reason to goto a theater/drive-in, stuff your face with snacks, and escape into imagination'. He knows his life has come full circle that his Star Wars films have a complete irony to his own life... but he's at least honest enough of a man to admit of his own 'empire' and then go out of his way with every one of these prequels to charity says a lot of honesty to the man. He's still the same person.. just wrapped in a corporate shell of his own standards. Bottom line, the draw of these films are like in the tradition of Christmas. You can't help but celebrate it.. no matter how much you've lost faith, you still go because you somehow believe in a principle. Don't hold it against a chairty... it makes you look petty.

Is that Attack of the Clones is the 2nd movie. Had it been the first movie, and the clone wars and Annie been allowed to develop much deeper, it would have saved the trilogy. Even if RotS is a triumph (which is extremely unlikely), it will serve to remind us of what might have been.

Ok, for those who are of a mature mind, this is what charity is all about. Sure, $500 is a lot for some people, but this isn't aimed at those non-charitable chaps who are living contently in a below $10 an hour job. If they were charging $10 a ticket, do you really think they could raise enough money for a fantastic cause to even be worthwhile? I've taken part of several auctions where I've bidded OVER the retail value price for the chance to give a little back to a particular cause.
The catch is, you have to research your charities though. Most charities, 80% of the proceeds go to funding the charity's electric bill and other expenses, not the cause. -
1) I agree with PhilConnors that at the end of the day what really kills me is not how bad Ep. I & II were but how much it hurts to think about what this trilogy could've/ should've been. A real travesty. 2) The Ziegfeld is a great theater. IMO the best in NYC. I would highly recommend attending this charity event if you can. We're all going to see ROTS anyway. Best to enjoy it in a fine theater. And even more so if you are contributing to a charitable cause. So if you can hike $500, I'd do it. 3) Finally, speaking of the Ziegfeld, on May 19th my friends and I will continue the tradition of seeing Star Wars at the Ziegfeld on opening day. It's a great event. Geeks. Fans hopeful (foolishsly) for a good Star Wars movie. I for one will repeat my performance of 3 years ago and come dressed up in my Mace Windu garb for all the kids. And if Triumpth the Dog starts junk with me I'm taking my purple lightsaber to his face! :)
-
My point precisely, Ancient Lights, is that this charity is not aimed at everyone. We're on the same page. However, the immediate response this topic got was a bit on the negative side which I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the general attitude here on most days. Do I have $1000 plus airfare for this event? Not me personally at the moment, but I'm not going to sarcastically knock any attempt to raise money for healthcare for homeless kids (and I'm not aiming that at you).
-
The opening movie for Cannes is ROTS, which will rock. More money for charity too.
-
I'm not going to spend $500.00 to see Star Wars, but if I could afford to spend $500.00 (plus airfare) to help homeless children and see Star Wars in the process...You bet. This charity event is out of my price range and that's ok. I remember after episode 1 had been released, it was re-released for 2 weeks and all proceeds where going to local charities. It was the regular ticket price. I took a date with me and saw it again (She had never seen it).

i'm bringing my own private tank of nitrous oxide.

The Phantom Menace came out again around Thanksgiving, maybe? The theatre was pretty empty but I figured I'd go see it on the big screen one last time. The reason it didn't happen for Clones was probably because the DVD window was much shorter, and they would have received an even lower attendance. It's a little foolish to imagine what "should have" or "could have" been in regards to the prequels. Lucas chose to make films that would be enjoyed by childen and adults for generations to come, not to appease teenage fanboys growing up in the late 90's/early 00's. In 50 years, people will laugh at the black leather trenchcoat and sunglasses "cool" of The Matrix, while Star Wars wil remain as otherworldly as when it appeared the first time, however imperfect the films are. And that goes for ALL of them.
-
It's been like a year. C'mon already. I hate my nick, I need to change it - it's from like 4 years ago. I figured with the new remodeling that registration would be back up, but no. Oh well, I guess I'll have to have patience. On the other hand, this charity sounds cool, and I'm jealous of those of you that will attend (mostly just because I wish I had that kind of money, not necessarily because I really want to go to the premiere ;-) I just blew any extra bucks that I have on new Sideshow merchandise though - well, not technically, since they don't charge me until it ships, but it still makes me a little nervous for budgeting over the next year. I couldn't stand it though, what will all the new items they have announced for Toy Fair... I got the Vader, the LOTR King of the Dead, and the Autopsy Scully (great accessories!) on pre-order - I really want the Aragorn on Brego at the Black Gates, but I think I want Vader more... can't decide. What would you do?
-
It's better for marketing to say this is "the last episode", but I bet in a few years they amend that to "the last episode in this trilogy". Sure, it took Lucas forever to get these 3 made, but CGI was just getting started. And what's he gonna do the rest of his life, sit around the ranch making origami out of $1000 bills?
-
Only movie I paid anything close to that was live and jiggly. Sorry ma'am...

Hahaha, points and laughs at everyone that doesn't like Star Wars anymore, haha!!!! I'm so glad I love it and have a good movie to look forward to. You're missing out because you have too much nitpicking baggage and you hate to see the rest of us having such a good time. Well tough! Hahaha!

So am I crazy? I get two tickets to the NY premiere, one sick kid gets in and two tickets to the after party which is going to be a theme party based on the Cantina. How many times in your life do you get the chance to go to a premiere? For AOTC, Natalie Portman was there along with tons of other stars. Do you walk the red carpet every day? If you can afford it, why not? Why bash it? Jealousy is my guess. Plus you get the satisfaction of donating to a charity. Oh yeah, it's also tax-deductable. Eat me.

...Episiodes 1 & 2 were so bad even if Revenge Of The Sith is a masterpiece (which I doubt),Lucas ego (for once) will work in our favor and he'll try and redeem himself by putting together Episodes 7,8,9, hopefully leaving the Director's seat to young and hungry filmmakers eager like he was then to create a crowd pleaser and not a self-centered egotistic risk free piece of garbage that were Episodes 1,2 and yes,6. But I wouldn't waste it on this shit. A, I don't think the movie will be any good and I don't consider homelessness a reasonable charity. Homeless people (at least where I come from) are normally crazy people who CHOOSE to live on the Streets. They COULD get accomodation, but deliberatly choose. Fucked if I'm giving them a cent then... Cheers.

... if Lucas decided to donate 10% of the worldwide gross to charity, that would make a contribution. Still, I think the idea behind the event is very good and that Ep. 3 will be the best of the prequels. Hell, I even liked Ep. 1 and 2 to some extent.
-
Bammmm......you get your wish!
-
It's a charity event...a chance for people who REALLY want to see it first to see it early. Why not let those who want to see it shell out the money to a good cause? Are you all so bitter that Lucas didn't make the movie you all wanted him to make that you begrudge him allowing the obvious draw of these movies to help people. Sure, it wasn't all sturm and drang and Boba Fett from one end to the other. He didn't bow down and kiss your collective fanboy asses, as Berman did with Trek. (which, folks, is the REAL reason the last two series and last film sucked ass) Bitch all you want, because he's going to the bank with the vision he created. He paid for it, he made it, and it's his. You don't like it, fine, more power to you. Don't, however, take it out on a charity trying to do good work, or the fans willing to put their money to a good cause instead of stealing the movie off the net.
-
The charity gets 100% of the ticket price. They set the price, as well, not Lucasfilm.
-
They're just movies, you want everything to be badass, well sorry some people had girlie nicknames growing up. The past isn't perfect, but we accept it. That's the prequels. If you really loved the star wars universe. you'd like the prequels, but apparently you don't. it's just about luke, leia & solo for you. Attack of the clones has elements from the original films and you're still not happy?
Yes the prequels have bad acting, especially sam jackson and natalie portman, hayden was bad sometimes, good sometimes, but Ewan the hero of the prequels is always good, leave him alone!
If you want to care about the characters, just watch the clone wars cartoons. Then remember how they were there and match it with the movies, remember what these characters did in those cartoons and everything is ok. the reason people hate the prequels so much is because they're so new, and people like to remember how everything from their past was cooler and how today everything is lame. well that's not true you just got old. -
Your observation is true for a good deal of the homeless people, however, last I checked, this charity is for their children, not them. Try to think a little more three dimensional, their kdis are the ones being pulled through the mud. This is not by the child's faults or past actions, but by their parents. Fortunately, there are others who can see different angles, unlike yourself. Good luck in life.
-
It's a natural phenomena, the abilty to detect being genetic. So what's the big deal if they explain it further? The rest of your bullshit complaints are opinion. As for the prequels being too kiddie, it's called contrast. TPM had to be that wayto make the last one seem dark. As for AOTC, I don't call mass murder by the main hero, decapitation and limb removal your basic children's fare. And I happen to know a lot about Episode III and it's going to make the most violent/gory/tragic/scary parts of the entire OT look like Harry Potter.
-
most charity events in cities like nyc are along the lines of 500 a pop. and that usually gets you an art viewing or auction and cocktails and schmoozing. Not worth it? think. this is for a good charity with a good cause. that's why people shell out the money. so if you look at something like this as a 500 dollar movie ticket, you probably shouldn't be there anyway. save the seat for somebody who wants to see the movie AND contribute to the cause. i work with at-risk youth and have been involved in fundraisers plenty of times, and i WISH my organization could have gotten our hands into something like this. despite what you feel about ROTS, this is a very cool way to raise funds and promote awareness while HAVING FUN. but the LAST thing i would want to see at an event like this is a fucking loser complaining about a 500 dollar movie ticket and talking to the charity organizers, doing so much to raise awareness for their organization, about how cool/lame it was when obi-wan jumped over an exploding robot or some shit like that. trust me, you're better off using that 500 bucks BUYING A CLUE.

The actor playing Boba Fett in Ep2 is Temuera Morrison who is Maori. And I should warn talkbackers now, please don't make the mistake of replying and saying "What's the difference?" Come over to New Zealand and say that and your heads will be caved in by a large brown fist.
-
You're wrong by the way.
-
I'm right. And you smell like doody :)
-
one9deuce is correct: I was wrong about Boba Fett: of course, his FATHER was played by Temuera orrison, young Boba is played by a young (Maori) actor who's name escapes me at the moment. The bit about talkbackers getting their head punched still applies. I abjectly submit a grovelling apology in you general direction. Hell, you may even not smell like doody: this being the internet, I can't smell a thing via IP. Please advise.
-
... I will gladly pay $600 and the airfare equivalent from the city in which I dwell (London) to NOT go to the CHF premier! Indeed, George Lucas should be condemned to the Galleys for the pain he has brought to mankind by means of the atrocities he calls the prequels. They could have been soooo much better. 'Tis true however, that curiosity will lead me to complete the triology in May. I exist in hope... Hail!

Two sequels down and they stunk. Lets hope this one is more like the original trilogy.
Wouldnt it be great if it opened with 10 million and no one wanted to see this movie? Maybe Lucas's ego might get a bit smaller. -
But I do. So, I must go. I couldn't bear the thought of everyone else having seen it except me.
-
An easy mistake to confuse Jango for Boba. They are the same character in essence because Lucas is just recycling ideas (and poorly) from the Original Trilogy. Sad but true.
-
The dude clearly has major problems and impotency just pushed him over the edge. Or he just discovered gay tendencies (duh) and chose the road to the Dark side, since odds are its PG we'll never know.

NO, the Force NEVER had a "scientific basis" in the OT. NEVER!
by iamjacksuserid
Obi-Wan called it an energy field, created by all living things, which suggests a more SPIRITUAL aspect. In the OT, there was never talk of midichlorians or little finger-pricking medical objects that measure how much Force you have (midichlorian count). It was inferred to be more of a religion; a way to dedicate your life. Maybe this whole midichlorian debacle is more of a sign of his old age as idealism is replaced by realism, i.e. the Force ceasing to be myticism and becoming scientific.
