Captain America joins up on GHOST RIDER!

Published at:  Feb 18, 2005 4:25:44 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with some pretty darn cool news. It seems that Captain America aka Peter Fonda is set to join Nicholas Cage's JOHNNY BLAZE on the hellish road of GHOST RIDER! In fact... Peter's gonna be playing Mephistopheles himself! I'm really jazzed about this casting decision. I mean - Johnny Blaze is nothing if not a cross of Tom Joad, Peter Fonda's Captain America from EASY RIDER and a hellbent demon! Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that Donal Logue is set to play Blaze's best friend and mechanic, Mack! These two will be joining Cage, Eva Mendes, Wes Bentley and Sam Elliott this week down under... on the same roads that Max and that fuel injected suicide machine known as the Night Rider tore up ages ago! Cool.

But, why the hell not? I'd like to see him play a sort of laid back Mephisto.

I had no idea this was so close to shooting.....

MSJ showed his chops on the DD Director's Cut. Hopefully the studio will cut him some slack (and give hime some money!) this time round.

    So far everything...

    by childe roland

...about this movie has me cautiously optimistic. If Cage had to play a comic hero (and he seemed Hell bent on it... get it?), this was the perfect one to give him. And Sam Elliot works much better in leather and denim than an army uniform (all due respect to his performance in The Hulk... one of the high points of that long, dark valley of a film). Now Peter Fonda in the role he was born to play - the biker version of Satan! I'm pretty stoked (another one... I slay me).

The reason they cast Nicholas Cage as Ghostrider...

...is because they both have the same hairline. Be sure and tip your waitresses! *friendswithbenefits.com*

I hope the film is good

    by kenkrk

Between Hellboy, and a lot of good word of mouth for Constantine, it looks like it's gonna be all about the dark Superheroes again. People talk about Daredevil, but I though the film was good, even before the Director's Cut. Having seen THAT, I have a lot of faith in Johnson as a writer and director. The Director's Cut showed you a lot of what he had wanted to do with the character, and makes the film atll the more faithful to the comic. I've never really had issues with Cage as an actor, so I'm sure he'll be fine. The rest of the cast is pretty good as well. The effects are gonna be the big issue. The guy's got a flaming skull, and rides a motorcycle with flaming wheels. I'm looking forward to seeing how they plan on conceptualizing that and putting it into practice. That's gonna be a challenge, just as much as the story and characters are concerned.

    Donal Logue sucks.

    by holly_wight

If Donal Logue is in this, it's a notch against my going to see it. The guy's a big, stupid ham. He's limited in his characterization and isn't really versatile in the "looks" neighborhood, either. Keep him away from these comic book movies, please! We had enough of his cornball routine in "Blade".

    Fonda.

    by gilkuliehe

I loved Fonda in ESCAPE FROM LA. The man can ACT. But I thought CAPTAIN AMERICA was becoming a movie, and guess who I saw on the director's chair right away... That's right. Imagine those wonderful slow motion shots of children playing in front of American flags... Families gathering staring at the sunset... Homeless black guys and dogs... And then, enters the man in the blue suit, walking as if he owns the place, Zimmer fanfarre... Ergo, Michael Bay's evolving sensibility has found a new vehicle.

  • Oops! My mistake. -- But Peter Honda obviously dudn't ride American. Oh. Oops! Sorry. You said Peter FFFFFFFonda. Wow. He should be an EXCELLENT Captain America, bein' such a stout, robust young fella.

    by pan demonium

Please make it an R-rated, horror-themed project a la Blade, because, despite the naysayers, Ghost Rider kicks ass and this movie should too... Pan out.

I don't know about this. Is the world ready for a half naked, Red skinned Demon with a loin cloth and a red, dracula styled cloak played by Peter Fonda?
