Quint's packin' up and headed out to the Santa Barbara Film Festival!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little announcement. I'm going to be leaving Austin in about 6 hours (I need to get to sleep!) for the Santa Barbara Film Festival. I covered this fest last year and had a really damn good time. Santa Barbara is unique because it's right smack dab in between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, so there's always a big Oscar push by super famous people. I know they do that in LA, attend screenings and give Q & A's, but for someone who doesn't live in LA, it's interesting to see them all together in one place.
This year they have everybody from Leonardo DiCaprio, Annette Benning, Kate Winslet (good god, she's gorgeous), Kevin Bacon, Paul Giamatti (who did indeed get robbed this year, so hopefully he still shows... I guarantee he'll get a warm reception), Brad Bird (who I'm setting up another short interview with), John Logan, Julie Delpy, Zach Braff, Charlie Kaufman, Bill Condon, Virginia Madsen, Joel Shumacher, Walter Salles, Terry George and Alejandro Amenabar.
Not to mention the Santa Barbara film community itself, which includes John Cleese (!!!), Christopher Lloyd and Jeff Bridges.
OK, those are the names and the film program is unique as well. There are a few Sundance flicks (KUNG FU HUSTLE, CRONICAS and RORY O'SHEA WAS HERE as examples) and some really badass sounding flicks, like Woody Allen's newest MELINDA & MELINDA, Joe Berlinger's newest documentary GREY MATTER, THE POWER OF NIGHTMARES, the world premiere of THE MOGULS starring Jeff Bridges, Joey Pants, Tim Black Nelson and Patrick Fugit and DAVE BARRY'S COMPLETE GUIDE TO GUYS (world premiere).
That's what I'm looking forward to, but I'm sure there'll be something I get surprised by, like LOVE'S BROTHER last year.
Look for reports coming in from the fest as well as a chat or two some of those celebs I mentioned. 'Til then, I bid you farewell and adieu.
