HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY teaser promo image!

Published at:  Jan 10, 2005 4:52:45 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... nothing like a depressed android to brighten your day. You know, if one of those new Volkswagon Bugs could grow arms and legs and walk around... I think it'd look like this guy, and that rules. I've got such high hopes for this movie, and I like how all the promotional material so far is so terribly geeky, that it's adorable. At this point, I'm dying to see a real trailer for the film with real footage. Till then, it's looking really good.

First - but with genuine reservations

    by charlie & tex

As much as we would like to think that the movie will be good, there is still a chance that it could turn out to be a major disappointment. Nothing will match the novels for stretching the limits of the imagination.

Why the fuck would Adams spin in his grave about a movie that he scripted? All reports say that almost all the changes made to the story (which had been already changed several times for the radio show, book and TV series) were made by Adams himself before he died. So shut the fuck up and stop being such a hater.

    Old News?

    by brendon

This image has been around a good while now. There are some better, newer pics at various fan sites - Planet Magrathea for one.

I remember when LOTR was coming out and I was thinking "I hope it lives up to PJ's previous work", not giving a damn about the books. To a degree, it's the same here. I want to see Garth Jennings come good - he's closer to me, really, than Adams. And I want to see Zooey hit another role out of the park.

Nothing will match the novels? I beg to differ; the original radio series that started it all remains the best version of HHGTG, in my opinion.

having re-read yours, Charlie&Tex, I also add that I think that nothing will match the radio series for expanding the imagination, in addition to my sheer subjective preference. And I say this as the most avid lover of reading I know of.

    Stormtrooper Baby?

    by lazarus long

Looks like something Lucas would come up with, like little clone outfits. And this is coming from someone who loves the prequels. Doesn't look like Hitchhiker's to me, but this really isn't important in the grand scheme of things. The voice will make or break it, and if it's Rickman that's good.

    by spike fett

Seriously, who really cares about HGTTG anymore? The iron was hot on this franchise over a decade ago, now it's colder than a witch's tit. I'd reread the books if I could find them. I think they're in a box in the basement along with a pile of Apple 2c games and Van Halen records.

    Hyperspace?

    by kintar0

Is expensive? You've got to be the biggest penny-pinching douche bag in the universe to complain about Lucas' "subscription service." It costs $20 a fucking YEAR! That's like $1.66 a month. "Boo hoo, Lucas wants all my money." Hate to break it to you twats, but everything costs money. And if you love something, you'll spend money on it. Kinda like how Lucas spends his own money on the Prequel Trilogy. And it's some kind of fucking crime that he makes money back? It's people like you who actually care how much money a film makes, that it's some sort of benchmark upon which to measure a film's "success." You probably think the Oscars are the be-all end-all of film criticism, too, right? I am a Hyperspace member and I am glad. It pays off. But I'm a 27 year old Star Wars lover, not some bitter "Lucas raped my childhood, weep, weep" numbnut. I don't sweat that $20 even a little bit as I look around at all the Star Wars bling that crowds my office. I don't regret one penny sent towards Lucas' pocket. If you hate giving him your money so much, don't go see Episode 3. Like that'll happen.

    by r.c. the "wise"

Let's face it, all focus in May will be on EIII Revenge of the Sith (even if the movie blows)

Sam Rockwell, Mos Def and Alan Rickman give it a fighting chance but with all the Star Wars hype, and going up against Orlando Bloom's big flick, it's going to be a difficult thing to accomplish.

Hopefully, they made a great movie. If so, perhaps my forecast will be incorrect.

  • a lot of Brits still care, at least. Hence the two new radio series playing on the BBC last year and later this year. And also people with any ability to appreciate quality, regardless of whether the subject's a few years old or not, ie, anyone with an attention and memory span at least as good as my two-year old niece's. But not you, apparently.

The 'hosing' that causes my posts (wonderfully insightful and eminently readable as they are. Honest!) to disappear into obscurityt at the wrong end or randomly into the middle of talkbacks really pisses me off. Especially given that I've programmed such forums myself, and STILL have NO IDEA how the monkey who wrote this site for Harry managed to come with so flaky and crappy a system.
