Seth McFarlane speaks and shows a few minutes of FAMILY GUY 4.1!!!
Ahoy, squirts! A very happy Quint here with a report from one of the many legions of spies that Harry draws to him. Much like the moon controlling the waves (and werewolves), Knowles has a power over a segment of the world's population. Must be his hot bod!
Anyway, I'm happy because I love, love, love FAMILY GUY and have been dying for any word on new and zombie-like season. This zombie season was brought back from the land of the dead by Fox thanks to the FAMILY GUY fans buying gratuitous amounts of Seasons 1-3 DVDs and now the first episode of the new season has been partially screened. I'm psyched to see the whole fam, not to mention the Evil Monkey that lives in Chris' closet. That monkey is awesome. Dear Diary... JACKPOT! Also below is info on the FAMILY GUY movie, which is going straight to video. Enjoy:
Hey Harry
I was fortunate enough to watch the hilariously funny Seth MacFarlane speak at the Ohio State Union this evening. Every time I have seen this guy he is very clean cut and very “New England” (the ads he did for Adult Swim had him in a smoking jacket). Tonight he looked and acted like a rock star wearing a leather jacket a scruffy jet lagged look. In his introduction he gave a little of his back ground which most people already know and that he watched Wimbledon on the plane and hated it wanted 100 minutes of his life back.
Any way, enough of the introduction, now to the real meat an potatoes. We were able to watch the very first public showing of episode 401 in the new season. It was a very rough cut, with only the first act being finished. But in the first episode we get to see “Peter’s Passion of the Christ”, Stewie as a plantation owner, and it is revealed that Lois is allowed to sleep with three other people aside from Peter, including Gene Simmons and Kermit the Frog” and Alice eventually does go to the moon. The DVD it was on was miss burned and we didn’t get to see the last few minutes, but judging by the response of the crowd, the 3 year hiatus hasn’t dulled his wit.
The rest of the evening was answering questions from the crowd. Some were pretty good and revealed some plot points from the upcoming season, including …
The Fighting Chicken is back as is the Angry Monkey
Ashlee Simpson has a big target on her back
The straight to DVD movie is almost done and will be another road trip adventure in which Stewie will be finding his real father. It will be coming out in the spring. No real date was given. Also, the Family Guy album, which is patterned off of the Rat Pack’s live recording at the Sands hotel in the sixties, will be out in February.
American Dad was briefly touched on, basically saying that it was pitched to FOX long before Family Guy was picked up again. It will be politically charged much like the Daily Show, picking on both sides equally for the idiocy of the system.
Seth MacFarlane was hilarious and it was so funny, that it got me thinking that he would be incredible in a Late Night Talk Show forum. He has a quick wit much like other cartoon writers turned Late Night Celebs (Conan any one?). He loved talking to us and I am thinking he will become a hot commodity on college circuits.
The last question of the evening came from a big stoner, whom MacFarlane responded, “Can you see the air around you?”
If you use this, call me Quagmire Buckeye

Family Guy funny. Family Guy make me laugh.

About time. I have waited for this show to come back in the worst way. I have all three DVD set and/or disks. I can't wait for the movie.
For all you haters out there (i.e. Simpsons fans) I think they're great...good show. Not always funny. I love the Simpsons. But in the way I love my sister. But I love Family Guy in the way I love a Hot older sister that is no blood relation.

I am so stoked for this show. There is no way it can livce up to my expectations.

Do you mean people that hate Simpsons, or who are Simpsonian and, thus, hate? Either way, I'm glad I'll get to be really fucking offended by Family Guy again soon. I almost wore out my computer's hard drive watching the show before the DVDs were out, and I've almost worn out my DVD drive playing the DVDs.
-
....simpsons fans that hate.

How does Quagmire get all those chicks? He reminds me of John Cazale. The best that guy could do was Meryl Streep *shudder*.

.....your time is almost up. Oh, I'll readily admit that Family Guy would not exist without The Simpsons or South Park but it must be mentioned that The Simpsons have grown really fucking stale with each new episode that comes out. I also understand that the jokes on Family Guy might seem stale but the show has at least 3 gallons more silliness to it and plus it also the balls to do raunchy ass and totally wrong humor, that is why it has done so well which led to its unholy resurrection. I mean Simpsons plot lines are in a stranglehold creatively speaking right now because of the movie they are in the midst of developing, that is not a very good thing for the show at all. Me and my friends can quote old Simpsons episodes like devout religious followers can quote scripture (whether that religion happens to be serious or Monty Python-related) We have yet to laugh at any of the new episodes (I didn't so much as crack a fucking smile at the last new episode I watched). So 3 cheers to the Griffin family! May their toilet humor riddled kingdom live for a long and prosperous time! (On a side note, after having seen excerpts from American Dad, all I can say is I have been rather disappointed on that front).

Man, I thought I was the only one who thought this show sucked. This is refreshing. I really really can't stand this obnoxious show or it's hack creator.
-
....and what was his answer to Seth's question "can you see the air around you?"
-
it's been too long, and now they know people like them. somehow that changes the game. i doubt it will be the same, but i'd love to be proven wrong.

My prediction: American Dad will bomb; Family Guy will be a hit.
by prof. pop-cult
...And it might start showing far more impressive ratings compared to The Simpsons. I was one of the last holdouts toward the naysaying against The Simpsons... but after seeing the new episodes this season, even I am now wondering if this show is on its last legs. I barely cracked a smile when watching the episodes of this season. I became perplexed with myself -- had I actually become one of those rabid anti-Simpsons haters? I couldn't believe it, but I started to feel that way. You know, I was starting to see The Simpsons like the way another generation might have seen The Flintstones -- this thing is still on the air?
-
I mean, come on guys, it even has the audacity to mimic Simpsons plotlines and specific cultural references. Still, there are definitely ISOLATED MOMENTS on Family Guy that have me laughing as hard as anything on the Simpsons. Just don't get too carried away.

What would you rather have on TV? new 'Family Guy' episodes, or more stupid reality shows? If any Fox shows need to be cancled, it's those stupid reality shows! If hope that when 'Family Guy' returns, Seth will tear apart the 'reality' crap like 'The Simple Life', 'American Idol', and 'The Newlyweds'! That would rock!! As Stewie would say, 'Victory is mine!'

I'm worried more about the Simpsons than Family Guy this season
by andtherest
Did anyone see the episode of Inside the Actor's Studio that had the entire Simpsons cast?
In that interview/retrospective, I was alarmed to hear that many of the Simpsons cast seemed to like the older, more sentimental episodes from Season 1 and 2 rather than the faster-paced, Homer-centric ones from seasons 4-present. I was surprised that the cast (maybe not Dan Castellaneta as much) thinks higher of episodes that deal with tender family moments, as in "tonight on a very special 7th Heaven," like when Lisa was sad and finds solace in a terribly uninteresting character like Bleeding Gums Murphy. Or when Homer feels embarrased by his crude and un-refined family at the company picnic. As much as I love the Simpsons and believe that it is the greatest show of all time, I was disheartened that most of the cast yearns for the period that most of us found unfunny. I mean, have any of you actually watched seasons 1 or 2 more than once after buying the DVDs (not counting the repeat viewing with the commentary tracks)? In fact, Matt Groening freely admits that he preferred the first couple of seasons as they were the closest to his "vision" of the Simpsons. When Conan and Brad Bird hit their stride around season 4, when Matt Groening and James L. Brooks backed down and let Al Jean have more say, the Simpsons became sillier in a great way. The episodes shifted from Bart to Homer and less on the family values that plagued season 1 and 2. From Day 1 Family Guy chose to be more absurd than the Simpsons. I recognized their approach and appreciated the show for what it tried to be. I love both shows but I can only hope that the Simpsons cast has no influence on the future direction of the show. Since Family Guy IS Seth McFarlane, in terms of writing, production, and voice-work, I have more confidence in the direction of the show. I appreciate that Matt and Trey are still really into keeping South Park as fresh and irreverant as it still is today. I'm glad that Seth's sense of humor hasn't seemed to have lightened during this break. -
Family Guy is consistantly funnier than the Simpsons have been in the las 10 seasons. The last Treehouse of Horror was incredibly unfunny. But the Simpsons always bounce back so I have hope. Although I noticed that the Simpsons ripped off the Family Guy where Peter was death. There is room for both shows, I love Homer and Peter as stupid buffoons and I hope we get many seasons more of both.
GFY -
Great treehouse episode from a while back - we pan across dozens of Homer clones only to see Peter from Family Guy smack bang in the middle of them....
The Simspons guys are comfortable enough to do `Flintstones` pastiches in a nod to the influence, but would Seth ever do the same with The Simpsons?
Hmmmm -
...People hate "Family Guy" because its a rip-off of "The Simpsons"? For a second there I thought maybe you people had a REAL reason.
-
i don't think that was even addressed in this article, unless i stupidly missed it. and for the record, family guy and the simpsons are BOTH REALLY FUCKING FUNNY! as a simpsons fan who avoided watching the show for the better part of the last four or five years, i've started watching again this season and it really seems to have picked up quality-wise. it's still just a shadow of its former self, though.

Its true.

...but that was years ago. Seasons three through eight were pretty consistently funny and were a quantum improvement over the largely linear plots they trudged through in seasons one and two. But they were starting to run low on fresh and funny before Family Guy ever aired. Sure, Simpsons gave a bit to the creative impetus for this show. As did South Park (which seems to have recovered from its own temporary bout with unfunny-itis). Again: I loved the Simpsons. Just like I loved Star Trek. And just like I wish someone would put a bullet in Enterprise's head to preserve the memory of the franchise, I wish they'd pull the plug on the Simpsons while there's still potential for them to make a funny movie and perhaps a few more Halloween specials. Family Guy is a worthy heir.

For anyone that thinks the SImpsons is no longer funny..
by silver shamrock
let me know about any shows currently on network TV that are funnier. Is the show so unfunny that it's getting its ass kicked every week by Everybody Loves Raymond, Yes Dear, Still Standing, Joey, My wife and kids, George Lopez Show, According to Jim, King of Queens, 8 Simple Rules, Two and a half men, Will and Grace, Committed, etc?

by snuggleskunk
It really is pointless to argue about who ripped off who. I mean yes they both are about a family with three kids and a stupid dad but so are all thos crappy WB sitcoms with ex rappers and ex wayan brothers. In fact King of Queens is the same just without the kids. And I live in the UK so don't have to put up with half as much crap as you guys do. There are only 7 plots in the history of writing apparently so its not really surprising that similarities exist. What matters is whether their funny or not and the four above are. Animation give the writers so much more freedom its proved the most interesting exploration of the sitcom genre for years which is why theres such a proliferation of these great shows.
Shame no-ones doing it in the UK except Monkey Dust (don't think the US would get MonkeyDust - its a bit seriously out there)
