Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some positive confirmation on the casting of Lex Luthor... from CNN. Kevin Spacey plays a great badguy. Cold, calculating... everything Luthor needs to be. Now he just needs to be bald during the WHOLE movie and not pull the Gene Hackman "one bald-cap scene per movie" cop-out. Shit's moving, folks! Looks like SUPERMAN's going to finally leave the ground and soar for all us normal, non-flyin' folks to gawk at!

I would have been excited about this before I saw a news snippet on the SciFi channel's website's news service where Spacey talked about how he had to do movies like Superman in order to keep doing the movies he finds interesting. Hey, pal, don't do us dorks in the slums any favors, ok?

the way they are going to tie in the Donner films is simply by not NEGATING them. Plus, a tip of the hat by using the William's score. That's it. No other refrences will be made. Singer has said as much. Sure, it doesn't totally jibe 'cause of the younger actors & such, but whatever.

because news like this is OLD as crap. I think Spacey was like the first person cast, read it on Dark Horizons WEEKS if not MONTHS ago! Ug... On that note, is a 22 year old Lois gonna wash? Everyone bitched when McG was making "Jim Henson's Superman Babies" and thus far this ain't much different. Heck, Beyonce is probably older than that!

Spacy I'm sure will do a good job but Hoffman using his evil energy from Punch Drunk Love would have trancended the role making it one for the ages. But thank god they didn't choose Billy Zane who is way to obvious for the role and it would've just been really dull.

After all, Clancy Brown was even the voice of Luthor in the Superman animated series. He would have been great as Lex in this movie.

This is coming together beautifully. I don't know this Routh kid, but I've developed an extreme faith in Singer. If I remember correctly, I along with many people weren't to happy with some of the casting for X-MEN. The obvious choice in Patrick Stewart as Professor X was a brilliant move (personally I think only Yul Brinner could've done better). I remember hissy fits over Ian McKellan as Magneto,
and a nobody named Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I honestly thought Magneto should've been Rutger Hauer, and that Hugh Jackman was a little to polished to be the ruff, rugged killing machine that is Wolverine. It was a lesson in wait and see till you make your judgement, as they proved to everyone they now both OWN those characters with the kick-ass performances they gave in X and X2. Usual Suspects was a movie that came out of nowhere in 1995 to rave reveiws and find it's way to a mass following and almost every critics top 10 of all time. Kevin Spacey is a damn good actor, I don't think he's reached great yet, but he's a gifted actor with great charisma to play the ever charming, ever elusive, ever ruthless and evil Lex Luthor. Honestly I don't know much about Bosworth. I haven't seen any of her work, but she is soft on the eyes and after "Beyond the Sea", almost everyone agrees she was pretty damn good as Sandra Dee. I really wanted Catherine Zeta-Jones to play Lois Lane. I think she is the perfect choice hands down, but considering Routh is 26 yrs old, I always doubted that they'd
pair him with an actress 9 to 10 yrs his senior. None the less, all the major hero's are getting there due and respect. Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Spider-Man 3, Hulk 2, IRON-MAN, Ghost Rider, The Fantastic Four, Sin City, shit even a sequel to DareDevil done right will be awesome considering the first one wasn't that horrible. The guys who are doing these films are the same guys we grew up with. The guys we would talk comics with and the guys who endured the shitty attempts like Captain America, Corman's FF, Batman & Robin, The Punisher - which I thought was better than that let down with Thomas Jane - They knew as we did that all those movies were half-assed attempts to make cash, nothing more. Sure every now and then we'll still get a Hindinburg like Catwoman, and a disappointment like The Punisher, but for everyone of those we get a X2, Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins, Sin City and even Constantine. It is a good time to be alive indeed. -

Tucci had too much of this serial-B flick/TV series look... he just does'nt fit into such a big and important movie such as this one. Kevin Spacey has just the perfect wit and twisted attitude on film to play a great, brillant villain,who has a strong issue of narcissism and megalomania... and he still can have a slightly funny edge above all that evil. Can't wait to see how that flick's gonna turn out to be.

...I think that's his name, the english actor who was in "The Tuxedo," "The Patriot" and also in the clip of "Elektra." When he played Capt. Steele in "Black Hawk Down" I thought, yeah this guy would be a perfect Lex Luthor. Oh well, when Singer got the job, it was a foregone conclusion that Lex would be Kevin Spacey...not a bad choice but I think Jason Isaac would have been better...in my humble opinion of course. Lois Lane? I always thought the obvious choice would be Selma Blair but since the casting of Routh and everything revolves around him and I don't see the chemistry with Blair. Mira Kirschner(?) from the Showtime lesbo show "The L Word" yeah, she would work...but my choice would be hottie Sienna Guilroy(?) from "Resident Evil 2." Moot point now...just hoping Luthor is cold badass, an older version of Michael Rosenbaum's excellent Lex from "Smallville."

yeah, Hackman had some fun lines that could have fit Luthor's persona, but sorry, that wasnt Lex Luthor in the Salkinds films. Luthor is the only flaw in the Donner original.

Ya know, I love AICN, but there certainly is a lot of gay-bashing in TB - I think Spacey has always approached each role with professionalism and integrity - so if Lex ain't written gay, he won't come off as gay - as for Routh, I don't know his leanings and could care less - Singer loves the Donner/Reeve Superman and must see something in this actor to think he could pull it off - I for one am excited that two of DC's big guns are finally getting the 4-star treatment that Marvel's heroes have been getting - it's a good time to be a film and comic geek! (and please, please, PLEASE remember: George Reeves with an "S" in his name was TV's Superman - Christopher Reeve with no "S" in his name was the film Superman - thank you)... And now that it seems Topher Grace may be too old for Jimmy, how about Frankie Muniz?

Lois needs some breasts at least. Danes is nearly devoid of them(hint: invest in some sweater puppies, Claire). My argument works well for the casting of the Wonder Woman film. Rhona Mitra would be perfect as Diana, plus she's part Greek. Hope Spacey shaves his dome for this.

Just as Gabirel Byrne said. Did Kevin Spacey's character appear the slightest bit Turkish to anyone? Spacey's character's real name is unknown. Keyser Soze was used as a myth to scare criminals into doing what Spacey's character wanted them to do, so that he could achieve, otherwise unachievable goals. At the end of the movie, the "baddies" think Keyser Soze killed everyone on that ship, but who really did it? Gabriel Byrne and Stephen Baldwin's characters did it. The one survivor nominated Spacey as Keyser Soze as he obviously saw him kill Byrne's character. He mistakenly attributed ALL the killing to Soze though. Spacey killed Byrne's character and he was the only one left who knew the actual truth... It was damn fine movie and very clever indeed. If the new Superman is half as good I'd be happy... Cheers.

The sketch artist gets a description from the surviving seaman who knows what Keyser Soze looks like, and it turns out to be Spacey. The only reason we think Keyser Soze is Turkish is because Kevin Spacey says so in his story. The other problem with the theory is that if the myth only exists to allow Spacey to get the other characters to steal, why does he make sure they all die? It only makes sense if he was exacting revenge, as Soze is supposed to. If Spacey isn't Soze, then his "escape" at the end isn't really a big deal.

Kevin Spacey is a very good choice for the part. Some of the other choices such as Billy Zane and Jason Isaacs were good too. However Clancy Brown would have been my first choice. He's been doing the character so long he could do it in his sleep. I just hope Spacey doesn't play him like his work in "A Time To Kill."

You have to remember, that the "Usual Suspects" have all heard of Keyser Soze before the incidents in this movie occur. This means that there has to be an existing "legend" that is known to people already. Indeed Kobayashi points out during the film, in the "pool room" scene when they each get their "dossiers" that each and every one of them has already stolen from Keyser Soze and that's how they are enticed (or perhaps forced) into working for him. The survivor in the hospital does indeed know what "Keyser soze" looks like, but do you really think Spacey's character name IS actually Keyser Soze? For starters it would be a bit dumb as there are at least 2 law enforcement officers from 2 different jurisdictions (LAPD and US Customs if I recall correctly) that are aware of a "criminal mastermind" known as Keyser Soze, even if they don't entirely believe such a person exists... 2. There is no suggestion from the movie that Spacey is aware that there was a survivor from the ship and to that end killing everyone makes sense. Spacey told his story masterfully and made the police think that Byrne's character was Soze and took all suspicion away from himself. The police learned that error a bit late, and like "poof" he was gone... The police probably never even knew his real name... Cheers.

...and just in time for old "my career is evaporating" Kevin. If memory serves, Spacey was set to play Luthor many years ago, when he was much more of a hot star, in the Tim Burton/Nick Cage Supes. His getting the part all these years later, when he is ice-cold at the b.o, evidently reflects the regard of director Bryan Singer (who directed Spacey's Oscar-winning gig in "The Usual Suspects.") I sure hope this saves Spacey's career. P.S. Will his Lex look like his "Dr. Evil" in the "Goldmember" spoof with Cruise, Paltrow, and DeVito? P.P.S. Bizarre: Spacey and Kate Bosworth being cast together after doing "Beyond the Sea" together. Failing upward?
