Cool stuff from TOY STORY II

Published at:  Aug 18, 1998 1:00:36 AM CDT

Harry here updating from the Joad-Abode. Right now as I type there are two sleeping lazy bums here. Tis sad... they are missing coolness on the tube and the computer screen. Sigh... ANYWAY... This stuff came in from one mean as heck, Switchblade Sister, and it's mighty cool. These are the pre-production art on boxes of fake toys that will be appearing on shelves in the background of AL'S TOY BARN!!! I don't know about you, but I want each and every one!!!

    Not Cool?

    by michael

What's wrong with kids today? Do they not learn about coolness in school anymore? "Poodles in my Pockets" is freakin' cool I want to fly out to the Pixar compound and thank each employee personally. It hurts me that Amara and Munkey97 are unable to appreciate these images. If there was a College of Cool, I would give these two a need-based scholarship.

    2-D pics?

    by jalapeno

These pics aren't as cool as the Movie still from May 29th. I wonder how these pics will be worked in... Maybe as textures over boxes? Who illustrated these? They are kind of... bleh?

    Fakes...

    by zombieflesh

Come on man, look at the pummel the clown one, it has a crease in the middle of it. At best this is just some talented Genius making up some funny games... not the work of a artist for Toy Story 2.

Oh, C'mon -- you guys are a bunch of sourpusses.
That was one of the funniest things I've seen all day. I'm *still* laughing about Poodles in my pockets!
    Kudos, Pixar.

    Harry-

Okay, long time reader yadda yadda yadda, but the time has come to tell you that you really will post any old crap on your website and dress it up as news. The Toy Story stuff you put up today is lame beyond words, and as for the sheer volume of anonymous Star Wars "spoilers"... well, I think you should drop the "commoner with Hollywood influence" bit and save the drool for when you actually get something decent to report.

    Can't Blame Em'...

    by jalapeno

You can't really blame them for complaining. I don't see the pictures as being SO fake. It might have helped if Harry had given a little more info regarding the source, how reliable he thought it was,etc...
But the toys pictured do somewhat fit the idea of the movie. Al's Barn is supposed to be a store of a 'crazed' toy collector, (sounds like harry,) and these toys seem like those this guy would want to 'collect.' So at least the premise fits.
The image quality, and the lack of 3D examples causes me to wonder a bit, but maybe pixar hired a seperate workgroup/comp. to create some art for the film?
I really don't think that the pictures are that bad, and and any news at this point regarding TS2 seems to be good news.
As for complaining, i think that we are simply feeling deprived of Cool News today because there is only one bite.

Harry does take a beating in these talkbacks doesn't he?

    Harrys alright by me

    by tea white o

Thanks for those Toystory 2 pictures. Its nice to see non 3D pictures from the movie. Instead of people crying over them they should think how raw, and rare, these images are, its not often you can get hold of 'texture maps' from movies. If you get any more Harry, put them on your site, I'd love to see them. Spot on and keep up the good work my man.

    Why these pics look trashy.

    by animator

I dont suppose it occured to anyone that the reason these pics are so ugly is that they are probably mockups done with marker pens. I think you will find that not one single animaor is allowed near a computer at Pixar until the body of work has been done on paper first.

    actually that kind of sucked

    by jack

What was the point of posting those up? The biggest story on your site is that you have a sneak preview of images that will be in the backround of a few scenes that are going to be in a video tape only kids movie? You can do better then that.

    Those are great

    by bryan

I disagree with many of the knuckleheads above. To the contrary, this is one of the BEST things I've ever seen on this page. I would much rather see things like this than just to learn about the plot of a movie I'm going to see anyway. I love "Poodles in My Pockets" and I probably won't even be able to get a good look at it in the movie.
This is a good service. I hope Harry pays no attention to the knuckleheads, unless it is to pee on their shoes or something.

Boy you guys complain a lot...

    by fig

I think it's kinda cool to get get to see some texture maps from the film, and I seriously doubt they're the final maps for those that complained about the quality. And Jack, Toy Story 2 is "a video tape only kids movie"?! It ISs being released theatrically (as someone has already pointed out, and if you think it's a kid's film, man, you're missing out. Go watch the first one again...

final graphics? I dont think so...

    by darklyter

a large percentage of the people that have posted messages are complaning about how these images dont look so cool and how they arent 3D. The thing is i really dont think these are the actual images that will be mapped onto the 3d toyboxes. They just look too rough. To me they just look like pixar or disney or whatever have just got artists to start thinking of ideas and this is what they came up with. So quit having a go at harry! finding out cool stuff about the production of upcoming movies is why I started coming to this site and to me those pics fit that category.
