Some New HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE Tidbits Online!!

Published at:  Nov 14, 2004 10:00:18 PM CST

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

The official teaser trailer for HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY is up now, and it’s not terribly different from the version that played at ComicCon this summer that we linked to back then. What is new is the gallery of production art that’s been posted with it by Yahoo! Movies, and it’s well worth your time to check that out:

I'd be surprised if you didn't already know, but there isn't anything on your site about it.

The teaser for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is on Yahoo. Plus some production art and a poster.

CLICK HERE FOR THE ANSWER TO LIFE, THE UNIVERSE, AND EVERYTHING!!

Thats the link.

Thanks. One thing I know we won’t be seeing online before the film is released if Disney has anything to do with it: the Vogons. Evidently, they are actual puppet characters, courtesy of the Henson shop, and I hear they’re amazing. There are still so many questions I have about this film, but all the stuff I’ve seen so far is striking, and I am hopeful that we’re about to get the LORD OF THE RINGS of comedy. Fingers crossed, thumb out.

"Moriarty" out.

    Hmmm.

    by kurutteru yatsu

The feeling I always got from the books, and I'll have to read them again no2, was that the HOG was a sleek, stylish ship; I can't see Zaphod stealing a giant volleyall. And Marvin? W. T. F. I am going to offer a voice of dissent though and say tha I like their interpretation of Deep Thought, even though that's also not how the book describes it. In the end though, I'm just happy I'll be seeing this in a theater. They ARE still going to be Britons though, right?

    Radiohead ...

... and in the same song in which they mention paranoid androids, they sing something like "you'll be the first one to go against the wall after my revolution comes" (or something like that), which is also a direct reference to the HHGTTG text.

Yahoo is even cheaping out on it's offshore workers these days. Their news website has a whole slew of mispellings and syntactic oddities today. I'm sure it's just trouble with translations. Here's a clue Yahoo. Hire better language instructors for your employees!

    The Heart of Gold sucks

    by mortsleam

In the book it is described as sleek, like a silver running show. Indeed, in the crappy TV version is was just that. And now that running shoes are looking more and more like spaceships, it seems only natural that they'd go that way with the design. Instead we get Cast Away 2: Wilson in Space. I'm not like the rounded, bubbl-head design on everything ehre, including Marvin. Oh, and Hail to the Thief is definitely as good, if not better than, OK Computer. It's a drunken punch-up at a wedding.

    You guys are going apeshit...

    by skyway moaters

... over conceptual art? That's why they call it "CONCEPTUAL" y'all. We have no way of knowing what whether or not these are the final designs for HOG & DT. The ones for Marvin have been around for a while so they're *probably* pretty close. Any HGTTG production insiders around that can confirm or deny? No big leakage necessary, just a "Yeah they're close" or, "This has been 'somewhat reworked'", etc. Anyway I like this concept of Marvin; don't like these ideas for HOG and DT. *** See how easy that was?

    Doesn't bother me

    by caerlas

I kinda like Deep Thought's sketch. I can't remember what he was supposed to look like in the book but considering this is supposed to be comedy in the format of film, it only seems appropriate. As for Marvin, I always imagined him being more box-like. As long as they get good voice-acting I don't think I'll be bothered.

I'm still not too confident in the casting of Mos Def as Ford Prefect, but as long as Arthur's still English I can deal. I can't imagine Arthur as anything other than uptight, confused, and british.

Mos Def will be great, IMHO

    by rain_dog

He wouldn't have signed up for the part if they'd turned Ford into some hip-hop stereotype - Mos don't roll like that. It's distinctly possible he'll play the character as English, or at least just an American version of the same character who happens to be black. Adams himself said Dent was the only character who absolutely had to be British because, let's face it, most of the other characters are from Betelguise, not the UK. He was even on record as saying Jeff Goldblum would have been, er, perfect for Prefect, a sentiment with which I whole-heartedly agree. While I'm a little bit nonplussed by the HOG designs, I'm cool with a different interpretation of Marvin (who was, in fact, largely depressed rather than paranoid - the "paranoid" reference only pops up once, and it's just Zaphod being a smart-arse). Looking forward to this. In the absence of Hugh Laurie, I think Martin Freeman will make a great Dent. So to speak.

...though I still get stranded on the Heart of Gold every time. "You cannot hear, see, smell, taste, or feel anything, nor are you sure that you even exist." ... or something like that. I'm not a patient man.

I've still got the HHGTTG game on 5 1/4" disk. Weird thing is, it still works. Somehow I ended up with a 5.25" diskdrive and copyed it over. I never did make it past the tea machine. Maybe it's time to play it again.

  • I know a retread Danny Elfman piece of crap score from the first few notes. They're always the same. He writes the same piece of music and just rearranges parts of it for different movies.

    Ford the key

    by hector

Ford Prefect is the key to this movie. Dent gets to do the slackjawed, stunned, boob of a human and that is a great role, but Ford has to sell the thing or its gonna be DOA. Mos Def scares me to death. If we get 'Yo, dawg, we gotta get off this planet mad fast' I'm walking out. I dont expect it, but I wont put anything past Hollywood. If the McDonalds commercials havent warned you, 'Urban' is in.
