Jeunet's A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT trailer for the U.S. debuts!

Hey folks, Harry here with a beautiful and striking trailer from Jeunet that will make anyone that has ever been in love with his films, go absolutely ga-ga in love for A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT. The film opens the last weekend of November in Los Angeles and New York - then unfurls selectively everywhere else in some undisclosed roll-out afterwards.

The first thing that strikes me about A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT is how small and intimate the movie seems. It's as if Jeunet decided to retreat to minimalism after his success with AMELIE. Like he'd prefer the simple perfection of a swan dive, rather than attempt eight flips with a half twist off the 1.5 meter board.

He also seems to have lost all interest in grand romanticism, instead focusing almost exclusively upon stark neo-realism. NOT! Watching this trailer all I could think about was how exquisitely he weaves tall tales of love and the pangs one feels when it is held in the sway of a cruel world. The images are grand. The feats... stunning.

It maintains that painterly look and design that we've been intoxicated with back in the days of DELICATESSAN and CITY OF LOST CHILDREN. Warner Independent seems to be doing a really bang up job in crafting the U.S.'s first look at the film. I hope the rest of their campaign is as classy and magical. Bravo!

If any of you can name the movie and composer of the background score in this trailer...I'd be really impressed.
I'll give you a hint....
No I won't, Nevermind. -
The trailer was better in French. Its still beautiful but Mr Voice made it hokey. Also, just curious but are American's offended by semi nudity? In the French trailer the girl takes her clothes off in the candle blowing scene (albeit with hands over tits).

I will never ever ever be that good. Well, I dunno, I'll give it a shot. *grabs camera*
But I give up, what's the music from? -
The music is from......The Edge, composed and conducted by the late Jerry Goldsmith. Knowledgable am I.

It is completely gorgeous, and I am very drunk. Like another poster said, it's said that all of this stuff is censored in the US, compared to the European trialer. See the scene in which he reaches out and touches her breast? In The US trailer, it cuts away just before that scene. Eh, anyway. I'll see it in the theater and inevitably I'll buy it as well ... yes, it is unavoidable, it is my destiny. Next Hoegaarden.

Jeunet is THE most amazing visual filmmaker alive, maybe ever.

And I don't care much (yet) for his pre-Amelie stuff. Amelie was like a painting and this one looks even better. He makes films with soul. I hope this makes a shitload at the box office.

Here is why (well, my opinion why). No nudity, which is a bad thing (but I shouldn't need to tell you that). None of the characters talk, which I assume is to make people (y'know, American audiences) believe that the movie will be in English. Crappy voiceover ('comes the story of one woman's courage to unlock a mystery, THAT COULD BREAK HER HEART') which makes it sound a little cheesy. And I preferred the music from the French trailer (but, that's a matter of taste). On the plus side, it has Dominique Pinon in it. Anyway, I don't want to seem like a whiny bitch (although I am), so I'm telling you I actually can't wait for this one, oh, and nice pictures. I couldn't think of any puns for the title.

"are American's offended by semi nudity?" Nope. Just the MPAA.

And it's pretty standard for foreign film trailers not to have any dialogue.

Jeunet is a directing god!

I have now seen all his movies--"Delicatessen", "City of Lost Children", "Alien 4" and "Amelie," if there's one I didn't mention let me know. This guy definitely knows how to make good movies, and this one looks nothing short of astounding. I think he should do another one with Marc Caro next.

but to have a **really** long engagement, the director should have used a cro-magnon man approach, frozen in glaciers, and blue fairies, and future people. Dumbass!
