Great Matt and Trey Interview Online Now!!

Published at:  Oct 01, 2004 12:49:07 PM CDT

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

I should have some TEAM AMERICA news for you here on AICN this weekend, but in the meantime, you’ve got to read this interview. These guys are great because they don’t seem to have that same Hollywood bullshit switch that makes most interviews just plain unreadable.

I think my favorite part of the interview is this gem:

Has working on “Team America” given you new respect for Gerry Anderson?

TREY: Absolutely. I mean, actually, it doesn’t give me any respect for him — it makes me think he’s absolutely insane.

Great stuff. Thanks for the heads up, Mike.

"Moriarty" out.

Team America trailers suck, but I bet the movie will rule.

    by doom ii

I read about this movie getting an NC-17 rating at first, so I assume the best parts just cannot be shown on tv. The South Park Movie looked lame on the trailers and it turned out to be a masterpeice!

    nc-17 for team america?

    by toe jam

the rumor a few weeks back was that the movie had received a tentative nc-17 due to "graphic puppet sex" or something like that. trey and matt have always maintained that the south park movie originally received an nc-17 but when they recut it they actually made it more obscene and it somehow got an r rating when they submitted it again. fucking hilarious. i am giddy with anticipation for team america

What's going on here? WTF does Matt do anyways these days for South Park? Just voice work?

    Reply to Talkback

  • cause both of them have been south parkers. garafolo has/had a regular voice part and clooney was in the last south park movie and was one of the main people to push south park into the limelight many years ago. we'll see if all this isn't a con of some type and garafolo and clooney aren't playing along. and they missed the whole point of the thunderbirds show...it was never about the characters or the stories. it was always about the vehicles, rockets and the event. thunderbird 4 was always my favourite but it didn't get used all that often compared to the others. you only needed to watch the beginning and ending to get anything out of the show.

They don't advertise it often, but Matt and Trey are actually Republicans. The fact that they manage to stay fairly center with "South Park" is a credit to their furtiveness. They are in fact, the only two funny Republicans on earth. So, yeah -- they mean to slam Robbins and Clooney and Penn hard -- because they have the gall to be celebrities with political opinions (incidentally, you won't be seeing many conservative puppets...not even Bush). In that interview Matt says, "...Fuck you, George [Clooney]. You went on the news shows, too, and talked about Iraq like you knew what was going on. We

    by wolfmannards

First of all, they are Matt Stone, and Trey Parker, as everybody else is enforcing here. Secondly, you only give a shit about them right now because there is a bit of hype surrounding their new movie. You're probably far from a "fan", you just love to spank yourself in the dick when there's hype surrounding anything.
One more thing, could everybody on this on this site cut down on the exclamation points? You're really bringing down it's value. Why more than 4 after EVERY new subject on the main page? Since they all have excamation points after each story, not one sticks out. Would you honestly shout that loud if you were telling somebody the news in person?

If Matt and Trey are libertarians...

    by dudley smith

why do they object to George Clooney exercising his right to right to free speech by criticising the Iraq war? Surely that is a 'liberty'?. Apparently it's OK for these 2 fuckwits to say whatever they want because they're 'satirists', but if Sean Penn - who has actually travelled to Iraq and spoken to the people on the ground there - tries to voice his opinion, they call him a fag and say "You went on the news shows, too, and talked about Iraq like you knew what was going on". HE WAS FUCKING THERE YOU TWATS! This pair of hypocritical pricks like to play the celeb game when they suit them and use the platform it gives them to voice their opinions('oh, wearing dresses to the Oscars was purely satirical!', yeah, and I'm sure they were dissapointed to find their smug grins in every newspaper and magazine that covered the event), but as soon as a more more famous person uses that platform to make a point they disagree with, they tear them down.

Sorry, WolfmanNards...they're Republicans. Do some research.

    by smarkjobber

Here's just one example, from a Brit Hume (aka FNC douche) article: "The audience at the liberal activist group People for the American Way's annual fund-raising and awards dinner in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night got a couple of surprises. One award went to the veteran rock singer Neil Young who proceeded to say he supported the tough measures the Justice Department has taken in its anti-terror campaign. Another award went to Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of the bawdy cartoon series South Park, who announced that they were Republicans. "It's true," said Parker, who was wearing a stars and stripes outfit."

First of all, the Trey Parker "It's true" quote... well, if you had a sense of humor you'd get it. Secondly:

    That's all you got, WolfmanNards?

    by smarkjobber

I don't have a sense of humor? You gauged that because I didn't laugh at a straight quote (completely free of irony) from a Brit Hume article? Alright. /// http://portlandmercury.com/2003-01-30/feature.html (lists bot Stone and Parker as members of the GOP, dated Feb. 2003) /// http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=21568 (an article from 2001 that says both Parker and Stone lean toward the Republican side) /// I could also link any number of stories about the liberal activist People for the American's Way party they accepted an award from (which you seem to think is some joke). So, who's right? I've brought the same amount of evidence to the table as you, if not more. It's safe to say they are definitely not liberal, and there is a case that one or both are indeed Republican.

    Libertarian does not = liberal

    by wolfmannards

In the political spectrum, the libertarian ideals are actually more right leaning that that of the republican party... I could undertsand how you would be confused seeing how the word begins with "liber..." but if you took a few courses, or maybe just read up on politics, you'd understand the ideals of each party.

    "Political Spectrum" is horseshit...

    by andy_christ

Never mind the fact that there are those on both perceived "ends" who see there only being two positions, theirs and "flaming liberal commie pinkos" (or less commonly christian fundamentalist enviro-rapist)...I don't think you can fit everyone on a 1 dimensional line. Saying libertarians are "farther right than republicans" proves it.

Even using two spectra, social and economic, is going to leave people out.

Oh yeah, and trying to pin down libertarians as being of one mind is as wrong as claiming there's no difference between GW and John McCain because they're both republicans. Libertarians have at least two major types...potheads and Randroids. At LEAST two. (Those being the two who keep me away...)

    No shit, Wolfman.

    by smarkjobber

How could you infer that I was confused about the difference between liberals and libertarian? Because I said, "...they are definitely not liberal"? Maybe if you learned to read, you'd be able to comprehend the ideas that people present to you. You presented links that indicated Parker was a libertarian. And I provided just as much evidence that both Parker and Stone are in fact Republicans. I've maintained that stance from the first post. What do you not get?

    by wolfmannards

Why did you say "They are definitely not liberal" while you trying to prove me wrong about whether or not they were libertarian? I was only inferring that you were unaware because I was assuming that was part of your "point" and not just a an empty statement.

    Here's the difference,,,

    by i dunno

Matt & Trey express their political opinions through entertainment, they're show and apparently this movie. They don't act like they're experts on anything, they draw cartoon kids and just express their opinions through satire. People like Garafalo (who I love BTW, despite her bullshit) and Clooney and Susan Sarandan contact their publicists and make speeches at award shows and exploit their celebrity status to have a louder voice than the average person or try to come off as being better informed. Now not all celebs are morons but most aren't anymore informed than the rest of us and the importance of their opinion is definitly not proportional to the volume of their voices.

What a couple of whiny, pompous assholes

    by reverendz

Seriously, their whole idea is that because celebrities have a point of view that they are stupid and should just shut up? Do they not see the fucking irony? Do they also not realize that a goddamn celebrity is the governor of California? What exactly were his qualifications for being governor? Is Arnold made fun of in this movie? What about Bruce Willis? Tobe Keith? No? You mean because they're not liberal they are allowed to get involved in politics right? Matt and Trey: you are a couple of whiny, little bitches who will never get another dime from me for your limp dick "we're just middle of the road" conservativism.
