Final ALEXANDER Trailer Online Now!!

Published at:  Oct 01, 2004 12:48:49 PM CDT

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Interesting stuff. I’m not surprised they moved this to the end of November. I can’t wait to see it later this month. I hope it marks a return to the glory days for Oliver Stone, and working from a script by history buff Laeta Kalogridis is definitely a step in the right direction.

CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT!!

Thanks to the guys at Coming Soon! for the heads-up on this one.

"Moriarty" out.

I didn't see Rosario Dawson in the trailer

I heard she gets jiggy with Colin, that would be worth seeing, although a threeway with Angelina would be even better

    Vangelis

    by soulreaver

How can it be that Vangelis makes his shitty synth sounds appear in such epic stories? I don't say that every soudtrack has to be written by Williams or Shore, but I do say that Vangelis is the worst choice (except maybe Hans Zimmer). This is a movie that cries out for a classic score.

I hope it won't suck the living liquid outta us.

What accent is Angelina Jolie going for?

What accent is Colin Farrell going for? Why isn't Val Kilmer going for an accent?

    I like Jolie's melodrama (e.g., gasping ".. in my WOMB ..")

    by eraser_x

I heard Jolie got the part only after William Shatner turned it down.

Holy shit, Colin and Val Kilmer look awesome in this. WTF is going on with Jolie though, she sounds like a 60s Bond villain. Still, she looks like the typical Oliver Stone female role, i.e. completely insane.

    by fluffyunbound

What is Stone's take? Does he do the old "Alexander started out good but was corrupted by Oriental luxury and absolute power" thing? Or does he do the "Alexander was a visionary who wanted to unite all peoples and cultures of the world" thing? Or does he do the old "Alexander needed to conquer the world to prove to his [dead] father that he wasn't worthless and weak" thing? Or does he do the "Alexander was a homosexual as were all the Companions and world conquest was something they just did as a gay-guy in-joke and to show off their cute buns" thing? Or does he have his own, unique, I-am-Oliver-Stone-and-I-can-do-what-I-want-and-not-make-sense thing, like in "Nixon"?

Shame neither of these movies was able to land Shatner. Jolie sounds like she's doing a poor audition for Fat Greek Wedding 2, and amidst the other accents Farrell seems to be going for generic american. Sorry, I got burned on Troy, that's not going to happen again.

And the Oscar for worst line in a trailer goes to...

    by kewl nickname

...Angelina Jolie, for "there will never be another Alexander like you, Alexander the Great."

Which I presume was followed by: "because you're, um, really great. And you're named Alexander."

Way to avoid dialogue that sounds remotely like a human being talking, Mr. Stone!

Oh, and Alexander's mom came from

    by fluffyunbound

...Epirus, which corresponds roughly to modern Albania. So she wasn't from Transylvania. But she wasn't a Macedonian, either, and her accent should be noticeably different from that of Phillip's court. Actually portraying the Macedonians with the accents of Scots makes a certain rough amount of sense - they were half-civilized warriors living in rough country to the north of a more civilized and metropolitan core cultural area - if they give the Greek characters in the film English accents it will be metaphorically somewhat apt.

I don't know about you, but there's a big place in my heart for over the top, uber-dramatic, ultra violent Oliver Stone explosions of tears and blood.
And anyone that's read the last 30 pages of his original draft for 'Conan the Barbarian' should be dying to see what the man does now that it's possible.

    by moviemaniac-7

Doubt if this will be a great movie. Or maybe a good one. In the wake of Gladiator we already had the underwhelming Troy (great actors, but just over the top) and now this one. Still I think that Luhrmann would have made a better movie with this subject, but that's just me.

They better not gay this up.

    by screenplaywriter

I mean the trailer looks awesome. It's what I've been waiting for, for along time with over-the-top liberal Hollywood. Here you have a real, genuine-looking epic film. I just hope they go for Alexander as the great Macedonian ruler, not the bisexual. I mean let's face it none of us want to see Colin Farrel and Jared Leto making out and being all homoerotic. I rather see him screwing Rosario Dawson and see alot of the sensationally hot Angelina Jolie and her luscious lips and her big titties.

Also, there needs to be alot of action and blood like "GLADIATOR" which from the preview it looks like it will have that, along with the chariots with the rotating blades. But I am so looking forward to this. "RAY", "ALFIE", this, and the summer movies are all that I am looking for this movie-going season.

Hey, according to the history, Alexander was a blonde, although Colin Farrely is not, and the macedonians were a rather light skinned race, so the white actors make more sense than you think

  • ...and I know most Talkbackera have no sense of humor so I must explain that was a joke. ...And Hollywood is not conservative or puritanical for not showing male homosexuality. If you beleive that then why all the hot girl on girl action in mainstream movies and tv? I'll tell you why, because guys with guys is disgusting to everyone but male homosexuals and the occasional chick but everyone loves lesbians. Except for male homosexuals and the occasional chick. I know this fact must suck if you're a queen but you've, shall we say 'endured' a lot worse than that. Sometimes without a reacharound.
