    Better than ALIEN: RESURRECTION?

    by godoffireinhell

Most likely. I'm not the biggest fan of Jeunet. His films are a bit too cutsey and cany-colored for my angsty, nihilistic state of mind. CITY OF LOST CHILDREN came pretty close to being great though. And at least people get killed in this new flick. That's a start.

for that 24 DVD boxset. That film from the advertisement looked pretty great as well. Although that Jeunet fella hasn't done anything really outstanding since Amelie. And, keeping in the spirit of Amelie, Sucks Guy why don't you FUCK OFF AND DIE.

    hey Floyd....

"Although that Jeunet fella hasn't done anything really outstanding since Amelie". This is kind of misleading, considering this is his first film since Amelie. Remember, Amelie was only three years ago.

Three reasons to see this film: Amelie, City of Lost Children, and Delicatessen. Alien 4 was an accident, hell, Jeunet didn't even speak English then. Three of his last four movies have been awesome, this movie looks to make his record four for five.

    Alien Resurrection

Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a great director. I liked "Amelie" and I really liked "Delicatessen." I want to see "City of Lost Children" so freakin' badly, but I can't find it anywhere (except if I wanted to buy it for $30). I liked Alien 4 somewhat, but I think its main problem is that Jeunet's artistic flair just doesn't work in an Alien movie. It was a fun movie, but when I compare it to the others in the series, it doesn't really fit in.

With the current state of American movies, all I can say is:

    Remercier Dieu pour Jeunet.

Strabo, I know, I'm just being clever (read: stupid).

I'm a big fan of Jeunet. I love Delicatessen (Cannibals! Monkeys! Musical Saws!). I really like City Of Lost Children (can't say I love it, although I have only seen the dubbed version, and if there is one thing I hate more than socialising, it's dubbing). I even like Alien: Ressurection (sure, he turned the greatest movie monster of all time into a walking piece of shit, but at least he had the balls to). And, of course, Amelie, perhaps my favorite film (but, if anyone asks, tell them my favorite film is Showgirls, to quote Goose McKenzie 'I have a rep to protect') for it's visual splendor and unabashed romanticism (and yes, I know it isn't about telling people to fuck off and die). A Very Long Engagement does look great and I'm looking forward to this more than any other film. About Jeunet not doing anything since Amelie, I was just being inane or sarcastic or irrelevent or esoteric or... to tell you the truth I don't know, I was pretty high on bostick at the time. I'm quite surprised you called me out on it, as I believe that no-one actually reads all of these posts. However, The "Sucks" Guy should drop the shtick (maybe, I was being a little harsh), it gets pretty boring pretty quickly.

Ya gotta love it when someone quotes from GREASE 2 to make their point! Shit, that made me laugh.

    AUUUGGHHH!!!

    by jollysleeve

God damn it! Enough with the color grading! What compels a filmmaker to spend years crafting a visually-gorgeous movie, only to, at the very last minute before going to print, deciding that the story would best be served if everything looked like it was coated in a thin layer of vomit? At least with a movie like Alien Resurrection--you know, that typical dystopic grungy sci-fi slog--I can sort of understand the reasoning. But for lush, lavish-type movies like this one, or light comic/romantic/fantasy movies like Amelie.....I mean, jeez. What is this, a Tony Scott movie?

Just BUY the City of Lost Children DVD

    by donnadarko

Seriously guys, it's a wonderful film that holds up to mulitple viewings. You can see (hear) the film with proper subtitles - not the bullshit dubbing which really takes away from the whole 'aura' of the movie. Plus Jeunet's commentary track is quite funny (the old guy who played Krunk was a NIGHTMARE to work with). I've seen it go for cheap prices on Ebay and Amazon (used). Treat yourself:)!
