Learn Which TV Show Tim Minear Runs Next!!

Published at:  Sep 28, 2004 2:52:10 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

A nothing Fox midseason hourlong suddenly pops onto the radar!

Tim Minear's been busy adapting Robert A. Heinlein’s “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” - but now comes word that the uberscribe (“Angel,” “Firefly,” “Wonderfalls”) is back to projecting cathode rays with Fox’s “The Inside.”

“Inside” is a distaff “21 Jump Street” about a 22-year-old federal agent who impersonates a high-school girl as part of an undercover operation. It was from writer-producers Todd & Glenn Kessler (the quickly cancelled “Robbery Homicide Division”). It still stars Rachel Nichols (“Dumb and Dumberer”), Peter Facinelli (“Fastlane”) and model Willa Holland.

Minear will create a new pilot and serve as new showrunner for “Inside,” still slated to bow on Fox at midseason.

    Hmm...

Love Tim, don't like the unoriginal idea. But I'm convinced anyone named Minear, Noxon, or Whedon can turn straw into gold. Now on with the major need: Turning Tru Calling (staw) into a new Faith spinoff (gold).

Will she go undercover as a stripper in the first episode, or will Fox save that for the second one?

First Firefly. Then I thought he was still having trouble sitting down after the Wonderfalls debacle. Now he's on ANOTHER Fox midseason replacement? Starting to lose my empathy...

    The Inside script

    by the colonel

I read the script on a plane this weekend, and the first thing I thought was 21 Jump Street. The 2nd thing I thought was, this sucks. It's cliched and generic. It certainly promises lots of ostensibly teenage eye candy, but it read like Varsity Blues mixed with 21 Jump Street in an attempt to be The Wire. I was actually surprised at the end when it became apparent that the school in the pilot will be the show's setting all season or even series, as the cops try to snare the bigtime drug dealer that's using football players push his drugs and corrupt the kids. The clues they follow are weak, the plot twists contrived, and the characters are pretty generic and cardboardy. Doesn't look good.

No, sorry, this one isn't popping afresh onto any radars...

    by roguewriter

Sounds like rehashed crap. Minear ought to spend some time developing brand-new projects of his own -- he's too good to pick up Fox castoffs!!!

Hmmm, this article is missing something...

It's about Buffy scribe Tim Minear and what he is doing next, and I wish him the best of luck . But there is something intangible about the article that I just can't put my finger on...hmmm, I wonder what his former Buffyverse colleagues are up to?

Seems to me, Tim has learned the golden rule.

    by clavius

Tim Minnear is finally getting the idea. Do away with fresh, intelligent and original material (Firefly, Wonderfalls) and develop something bland, used and played out. THAT'S the only way to stay on the air! The brain dead twats who run FOX will eat it up.

    The Truth & The Light

    by defythis

Cribbing from the title of the soundtrack album of a show Tim was excellent on... The X-Files... shame on Herc for forgetting his work there. That's what made it possible for him (Tim) to get to Angel, where he did his best work... and Firefly, well, we'll see what the movie & Joss have in store for us. But this? This is S-H-I-T(e). Say it with me kids, this premise will meet a swift demise, it's a one-joke concept that will die after the pilot.
