How hot is SIN CITY, hot enough to boil yer sweat!
Hey folks, Harry here... Here's some screencaps from somewhere, I'm not real sure where, but it's of some unfinished shots from SIN CITY. But, it should be enough to give you a bit of a clue regarding the look and feel that Rodriguez is going for. Though, frankly (pun intended) you ain't seen nuttin' till you see this baby move. Recently at the screening of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, Robert told me that a trailer will be hitting soon, both here online and in the real world that'll make you sit up and smoke a carton a day. Here's to Green Screen/Blue Screen Digital Filmmaking with style... between this and SKY CAPTAIN, I'm really seeing the perks...
Hey guys,
I'm sure you've gotten a hundred emails about this already, but just
in case, here are a bunch of screencaps from Sin City:

Trailer please this cannot fail. Looks fantastic.
-
Judging by the ridiculous campiness, I'd say it's another laughable comic nonbook adaptation, right? Not that I care half a dead keekee.
-
I didn't even know he was a character in Miller's comic.
-
...EVER.
-
I don't know how the masses will dig it, but I think it looks very cool. I just re-read the first Sin City. I'm getting real psyched!!!
-
Dusk till dawn was fun, the faculty was ok, spy kids is all shit and OUATIM was shite. I'm not sure I have much faith in Rodriguez anymore.
-
Dusk Til Dawn is just an awesome movie as is Desparado, i've never read Sin City but if it's as faithful an adaptation as everybodys saying then i got one question..........WHEN WILL MARVEL OR DC PAY THIS GUY TO DO A BIG BUDGET BIG NAME COMIC BOOK MOVIE
-
Can you guys believe that Yellow Bastard is Nick Stahl from T3 fame? And Elijah Wood is going to play Kevin!!!!!

Geof Darrow wasn't available to play Kevin?
I can't believe how awesome this looks. the only thing that concerns me is how are they fitting so many stories in one movie? Is the thing like 6 hours long? -

Seriously, I found a torrent of the file. This is AMAZING footage and I have seen it about 17 times now. It's six minutes and twenty two seconds long and ends with the blood splatterd face.
-
It's six minutes long, high video quality. Has titles and everything. Though a couple of the shots have only black background, it looks like a finished product.
Where'd you find it? I'm at work now, else I'd share it -
I'll believe it when I see it. The images look cool, but I can't get into these movies shot on 100% green screen. And R.R.'s last few movies have been total shit.

Of the little leather thing they gave Rosario Dawson to wear. Yum.

THIS SHIT IS LOOKING SWEET AS HELL! damn damn damn. I'm a believer. Robert may just yet climb back into the hearts of fanboys and geeks yet. Heres hoping......M

After the first Sin City series concluded, Miller pretty much crapped out the rest. He was never that strong of an artist but he WAS the best story teller in comics. Sixteen pages of double page spreads is not good story telling!! Cool photos though.
-
What I think Nay-sayers seem to be forgetting is that this is FRANK MILLER'S Sin City, Rodriguez sacrificed his Directors Guild member ship to bring the creator of the source material on board to over see everything that he does AND direct a segment. This is coming from a man who refused EVERY offer that came his way for rights to his beloved Sin City, until Rodriguez stepped up and took matters into his own hands. What people who doubt this movie need to realize is that we really have something special coming our way with this flick. Especially since it looks like it may be the first DIRECT translation from a comic book.
**Anyone who has a link or can point me to the way of the Comic-Con footage would be greatly appreciated. -
I think Rourke had some kind of prosthetic nose thingy on in that picture; but he is looking pretty fucked up these days, mostly due to his inexplicable decision to become a boxer in the 90's, and subsequent cosmetic surgery to repair the damage.

of ComicCon. Jessica Alba's ass-gyrating scene was amazing. Her assets are much, much more luscious than the unfortunately-emaciated "swirling ass" of Cameron Diaz. The only minor nit I have with the entire footage is Marvin's (i.e., Mickey Roark's) ridiculous witchy chin. Marvin in the book had a strong chin, but chin that they've put on Mickey Roark makes him look like the wicked witch, or like the moon-faced guy from Nightbreed--not strong-looking at all! In any event, I hope Mickey Roark's Jacko-esque cosmetic surgeries now prevent him from doing that stupid smirk that he used to do when his career was still at its lukewarm peak.
-
but your standards for art are just too damned high! How can you not love Miller's artwork. Anyhow, if you know of any other black-and-white comic book (no greys) that was drawn as well as Sin City, please let me know because I have never seen any other black-and-white book that was as beautiful.
-
I've only read the first Sin City, but now I really want to read the rest of them. Sin City was one of the few graphic novels that I read in one sitting. I can't wait for this.
-
I like that when Frank Miller drew Miho, he drew a scrawny runt. That's a bit less stereotypical than all the super-sexy, long-legged female ass-kickers in comic books. The Aoki girl who plays Miho in the movie seems to be tall, but at least she is odd-looking and not typical.
-
Give it up, we want to see the footage too! why not share the wealth if you have it.
-
Where was this? how did I miss it.... I must see it now, I must own it... guide me to it.... please I beg you....

I'm sick of all the positivity you clowns dish out for these movies, especially for movies you haven't even seen yet. It's just positivity for positivity's sake. What happened to all the negativity and childish insults that i've come to expect from this site. Sure it may look like like a lovingly-crafted faithful adaptation of a widely acclaimed graphic novel, captured onscreen with strikingly original, breath-takingly beautiful visuals but where are the scathing attacks ('this looks like a piece of shit that won't flush') and irrelevant witty comments ('Jessica Alba, I'd tap that ass') that I visit this site for. You nerds better shape up before I ship out!

as anything but animation. But......damn. That looks.....damn. As long as they don't change a word, this could be the best comic-to-screen translation ever.
-
every one of those screenshots could be a noir movie poster. each and every one. hot damn!
-
I really couldn't imagine how Rodriguez was gonna pull this off - Miller's Sin City was just untouchable - you couldn't match it visually in real-time. Well I was fucking wrong - that literally looks like the surreal minimilistic beauty of Miller's work come to life. Un-fucking-believable. Can't wait for this movie.
-
Holy... holy... holy shit BATMAN!
-
could it be that finally someone out there actually understands what fans want. a few others have come close but RR looks to have nailed it. only a few screen shots but it IS sin city! i just hope they fix the dv look of it. sure they will as it's only early days.

of the Comic-Con preview. I gots to see it and can't find it though I've tried.
-
the torrent at suprnova is dry right now.

This does look fucking awesome. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to try and make this anything but the world's first all-positive talkback it's shaping up to me. For all of you motherscratchers (understandably)salivating over the chance and/or expectation of seeing Jessica's boobs in all their glory onscreen, it doesn't look like the translation from graphic novel to film is going to be that faithful, if you follow my drift. I read in either PARADE or LATINA (yes, I swear, one of those two) a blurb from Ms. Alba saying that she chose not to show titty in Sin City because she "couldn't imagine her dad seeing the movie" or some such rot. No, I am not making this up. Yes, it's heartbreaking. Still, though, this is looking pretty fucking awesome all the same...
-
Somehow, someway. I had such high hopes after Mariachi/Desperado. They showed potential. Unfortunately, that's been the entire story of RR's career as far as I'm concerned: potential but nothing really good. Dusk till Dawn had its moments, as did the rest of his movies, but overall they fell flat. In fact, Once Upon a time.. was a piece of crap. It was horribly written and badly edited. Yes, you heard me, badly edited. The Spy Kids movies are what they are, which is kids movies and after watching them, I'm convinced that rodriguez either had a terrible, terrible casting director or that he can't direct actors. He can point the camera, he can shoot it fast, but can he make it good? At this time I'm inclined to say: no. My prediction is that visually Sin City will be fantastic, maybe even groundbreaking in it's use of digital. Rodriguez is a good cameraman and has a good DP. But overall, it'll fall apart. The actors will look the part but won't be the part, the story will have some hoky "gun in the pants" moment that will take you right out of the movie. I'm really hoping I'm wrong, I'm hoping to be blown away as I was the first time I saw what a 7,000 dollar movie could look like if done right.

black and white comics that are as beautiful as Sin city
by scytheofluna
I agree that Miller's style is fantastic but he is not the only one with a good command of black and white. J. O'Barr did some fantastically detailed work in his original series of THE CROW. (not the horrendous post-film craze shitbooks that followed but the original books that were the basis for the 1st film. Now if Sin City is a little more faithful to the source material then we should be in good shape. We can only hope. Between this and Arronofsky doing the Watchmen I have some hope. I would still love to see The Crow done in anime interpretations of O'barrs art. The first movie was great but even it didn't capture the comic as well as it could have. Who are we kidding though, no matter what anyone does no one will ever translate a comic to film in a way that will please all of the fans. We might as well face it.
-
As much as I love the source material, and generally like most of what RR has made... I just got a copy of that comic-con footage. While this stuff looks good in stills, it looks real bad in motion... and the performances were borderline camp. I may have to give this a pass in theaters unless there's some proof that post is fixing alot of the rough edges (and the super-clean digital video print really doesn't fit the setting). -Half

I have faith in RR. His writing is weak, but he's a great director. He just needs to direct other people's scripts.
-
When I was reading comics alot I was to young to get my hands on any of the Sin City material but I have read some of it. I like Millers B&W work (Though some of his characters are just to damn blocky - if that makes sense). This really seems to capture the tone of the Graphic Novels. However the digital film does lack a certian griminess. Looks very cool - UPDATE: I just finished watching the Comic Con vid. Looks excellent!
-
looks dooooope.
-
Wow guys thank you so much. I have been so fucking excited to see that I spent hours trying to get that torrent to work to no avail. After seeing it now...WOW! As a huge Sin City fan that was poetry in motion. I always assumed AICN would post as soon as possible...what the fuck was I thinking they havent had a scoop in fucking years! Cheers for the geek community!
-
Having just watched the trailer from the con I've got to say - without ever reading Sin City - that Rodriguez is trying to capture the style and art, yes art in THAT sense of Miller's work. I really hope this works. While you may not be a fan of RR he really does try to get out there and do his own thing. Now he's diving fully into Miller's universe AND letting Miller direct too! Interesting. Very interesting. I'm looking forward to this. BTW. Is it my imagination or does the footage of Clive Owen make him look about 10 years younger? Seriously. He looks, maybe, mid 20's in the clip. Again. Interesting.

Yellow Bastard looks terrible.

www.superherohype.com looks pretty cool to me but i'm wondering how the mass-movie going public will consume it, if at all.

There really is a God!

for the most part, which is why this will probably turn out good. But I guess he is still part of the industry to a large extent, so I see your point.

or whatever the fuck her name is? Please take that ugly forehead out of this picture. It's bad enough that shit like Gilmore Girls still airs, but to dress that nerdy 12 year old like a hooker and give her screen time is a true crime. And yes, That Yellow Bastard looks like one of the Klowns from Killer Klowns from Outer Space. (http://home.swipnet.se/~w-28870/mainkill.jpg)
