Read Edgar Wright's Coverage of the SHAUN OF THE DEAD screening!!!
Hey folks, Harry here with a link over to the coverage that Edgar Wright himself wrote regarding the recent screening of SHAUN OF THE DEAD that AICN & Alamo Drafthouse put together with the fine folks at Rogue Pictures and of course... Edgar, Simon & Nick!
A few more little details regarding the coverage you'll find on the AUSTIN BLOG of the ShaunSquad.Com website! First, the idea that Greg Nicotero would fly out to Austin to merely exhibit his support for SHAUN OF THE DEAD... a movie, btw, that he has zero connection to. He didn't do any make-up for the film. None of his mates at KNB did any make-up for the film. In fact, I'm not even sure he knows the bloody geniuses that did the make-up on the film, but folks... I know there's some of you out there that think the title for this movie sounds goofy, or that it's just a joke of a movie. Well, Peter Jackson has been lending his support to the film. George Romero has been lending his support to the film. Eli Roth has been, as has Quentin Tarantino and Guillermo Del Toro. You may notice, that none of those guys have made a movie for ROGUE PICTURES or it's parent FOCUS PICTURES. This is just an incredible out-pouring of support by folks that love a great Zombie movie when they see one. I've never seen this sort of support from other filmmakers for another's work, it really is amazing.
Also, the guy you see working to cover-up a few mosquito bites on FatherGeek's face and the brutal playground marks on my nephew Kublakhan's face (he's just started Pre-K, bastards everywhere!) is none other that BATMAN DEAD END director, Sandy Collora. Ok, now what the hell was Sandy Collora doing in Austin doing make-up on geeks for? Because he missed getting tickets for the L.A. event and when I said I wished we could have zombies at the Austin event, he got together with Patrick Magee... Who? Well, Patrick's the guy that designed and created that awesome JOKER make-up in BATMAN DEAD END! Sandy and he flew out to see the movie and have a lot of fun at PEDAZO CHUNK doing off the wall make-up! They did up about 30 zombies in about 5 hours!
I tell you, the 3-5 minute standing ovation this crew got along with Rodriguez Hat-waving Slim Pickens show of support was pretty over-whelming. Anyway, head over to ShaunSquad.Com and check it all out... and when this film opens on the 24th of September remember... this is the best zombie film since the original DAWN OF THE DEAD, and hopefully, that'll hold us till what we hope will be the best zombie film of all time, LAND OF THE DEAD, which has special zombie appearances by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright... along with... a few other characters of ill-repute...

Can't wait for Shaun!! :)
-
...anyone notice Drew McWeeney in those TV spots running on IFC (the ones with Eli Roth)? Just thought I'd point that out.
-
That was the best commercial ever!
why is this movie not out in theaters? -
we haven't had ANY positive coverage of this movie since it came out and got a bunch of positive reviews. so why the fuck does this matter to anybody?
-
I've never heard of this movie... are you guys going to cover it?!?!? I think that maybe you should ask each one of your Talk-backers to write a review of it, and then post two a day until the thing comes out on DVD!!!
-
..from all the chewing they've gotten regarding this movie. AICN has been posting every turd dropping bit of news about this flick for what seems like twenty freaking years. Hey, guess what? NO ONE CARES! IT'S ONE FREAKING MOVIE! Maybe if you showed the same enthusiasm for every movie that you do for some two-bit zombie movie, the site might be taken a bit more seriously instead of being a stockpile of hardcore grindhouse junkies. I hope this movie flops, just to piss off everyone who spent the last year of their lives jacking off in anticipation.

Shaun of the Dead is a little well-made zombie film. Its not getting the love and support it deserves so this site goes bonkers promoting it. The film needed more gunshots to the head and should have exposed the boobies of the two female leads and it woulda been perfect. For better insight, I suggest reading "A Philosophy of Reanimation" by ROBERTA ANN SPARROW (1887-1988).

I can't wait until SOTD comes out...just so this site will shut

Got SOTD DVD two days ago and watched it with the Zombie triva track which points out a zillion in-jokes from Fulci's Restaurant where Shaun fucks up the table booking to (Ken) Foree's Electronics where he works; and Bub's Pizza down the road. Gonna watch it with the commentaries tonight. Man, this film gets better every time you watch it! This is easily the best British film since Withnail & I! And yes, dogs CAN look up!
-
Shaun Of The Dead had benn out here for AGES!!! It's out on DVD now too :) I can happily say that it is the funniest film I have seen in years AND it manages to be quite scary too.
-
then we are all fucked because ROTK was a bloated overrated hollow piece of cinema that size and scope overwhelmed the director and clouded his usually brilliant filmic ability...oh and it was a massive gay love in too. anyway i better get to and order the shaun of the dead dvd from amazon.uk.
-
...just to chim in, this film DOES indeed get better every time you see it - and I thought it was damn f^cking cool the first time. The DVD does indeed rock and the commentary tracks are hilarious. To all the nay-sayers out there, why bother! I guess the anonymity of the internet means you have free reign to say anything you want, especially if it is to slag this site, Harry or his film de jour! Surely your time would be better spent extolling the virtues of your favourite films, on a film geek centric fan site. Sorry to whinge, but sometimes I just get testy with you all!!!
-
Saw this film on DVD last night and was very suprised. This bears comparison with 'An American Werewolf in London' - my favourite horror film. It manages the difficult trick of being both funny and actually a good horror film. I was expecting some sort of tired, over the top spoof of zombie genre films, something along the lines that the Zucker brothers would have made. But like American Werewolf, if you strip out the jokes this film could stand as serious horror.

Yep, got the DVD, and yes it does get better and better each viewing....and if you don't like it??? Well, its not the end of the world......
-
What is it with the hatred of that movie anyway? Too intelligent, not enough wisecracks for you? That movie should of had a wider release here in the States, and it doesn't deserve the video packaging it got, making it look like a Matrix clone.
-
what?
-
I saw this in the cinema, and I was looking forward to seeing it again while I was still watching it! Got the DVD, and it really, really does improve with each viewing. Best British movie since Dog Soldiers, and it's the same kind of thing: a US indie-style comedy horror that's a) very funny, b) quite scary, and c) against all odds, has a fantastic script.
-
...is an ok B-movie -- watchable certainly -- but a major league groaner at the end of the day. Unoriginal, dead serious (which makes for some unintentional humor), and clearly dependant on style over substance. What I don't understand is how "Equilibrium" is highly coveted by anyone. It's about equal in quality to that other turd, "Underworld," yet wasn't reamed as bad in film-related boards across the net, probably because the dudes at CHUD shilled the shit out of it (I mean, those guys like "Deep Rising" for Christmas sakes!).

Shaun of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Shaun of the Dead. -
It was worth the wait to see Simon Pegg and Edgar Wrights version of spaced with zombies then and it will be now.
Its popular for a reason! -
Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that the odds were against THEM writing a good script. I've never seen Spaced but everyone has told me it's excellent. I was talking about British films in general, of which one every two years has a decent script. Which seems ridiculous to me, because when you're on a miniscule budget (as most UK films tend to be) surely the script should be that much stronger? Yet the best UK scripts from the last few years (SOTD and Dog Soldiers, in my opinion) have been comedy horrors (traditionally a poorly written genre) that put their entire budget up on screen and come off looking like American films that happen to have people talking in English accents.
-
was an overwrought piece of shit with heroes saving puppies. Only deaf dumb and blind fanboys like bullshit like Equilibrium.

Whats is all the beef with AICN going crazy over Shaun of the Dead. It is a quality film and all you stupid nerds who hate everything can go take your tiny shitty little angry nerd opinions away and dont come back.
N.B Nerds are different to Geeks, it is cool to be a Geek but everyone hates Nerds -
Look, all of you naysayers out there. I know the US trailers kind of make it seem like a dumb film, but I assure. It's GOOD. I have seen this film. They've been making the rounds with these screenings across the US and I was fortunate enough to attend the one in Chicago.
I assure, it is quality. And it is especially good for those of you who like Romero's classic trilogy. The zombies are done the old fashioned way.
Go see Shaun of the Dead. All of you. Twelve times. I know I'll be seeein several more times. -

I haven't seen this film yet and I'm already sick of it. Hasn't anyone at AICN learned yet that there is such a thing as too much hype? As a fan of zombie films I'm sure I'd be interested but after all the shameless humping for this film day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day on this site I can't help but hate it by default, which means I'd have the wrong mindset going in and I'm probably better off just avoiding it altogether. Same thing happened with DONNIE DARKO, which I may have enjoyed as an innocuous little diversion were it not for this site promoting it as brilliance personified. So instead I hate it as an overrated piece of pretentious self-indulgent twilight-zone-lite. Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead Shaun of the Dead.

HARRY HAS A BEER AND WATCHES HIS SHAUN OF THE DEAD BOOTLEG!!!
by dead cowboy
HEY HARRY HERE,
AFTER AN EVENING OF WRITING "SKY CAPTAIN VERSUS THE BRIDE" FAN FICTION, I SETTLED IN LAST NIGHT TO EAT A BUCKET OF KFC CRUST (THAT'S THE BITS OF SKIN AND BATTER THEY GET OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE DEEP-FRYER; ITS NOT ON THE MENU BUT THEY'LL GIVE IT TO YOU IF YOU ASK! NOOCH!) AND A BUD LIGHT TO WATCH MY REGION 0 BOOTLEG OF "SHAUN OF THE DEAD" I IMPORTED FROM THAILAND FIVE YEARS AGO, LONG BEFORE ANYONE ELSE EVER GOT TO SEE IT.
THAT'S IT. I JUST THOUGHT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW I WATCHED "SHAUN OF THE DEAD" FOR THE 67TH TIME.
BTW, PUNISHER SUCKS. -
if it's good or not. I'm reasonably sure that it IS a good movie. But getting hammered over the head by SOTD for the past bazillion days makes me sick to death of it, which lessens the chance of me actually wanting to sit down and watch it. Judas Priest, isn't there a realization that sometimes people should be allowed to decide what they want to watch instead of getting it rammed down our throat?
-
..But in a good way. If everyones going on about it so much its because its worth talking about, which it is. Any zombie fans out there will adore it as the film makers clearly do. Hell it uses the Goblin score from Dawn of the Dead at various points, even one of the menus has the hilarious 'Gonk' cue on it.
Sit tight you'll get to see it soon( or get the UK dvd which is ace). -
How many freakin' times have I seen news about this movie? What was the point of this news item?
Harry, Mori, I'll go see the fucking thing, ok? Christ!
