A new RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK DVD to include shot for shot remake'''
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an interesting rumor. I'd put some credence to this if only because I know that Spielberg adores the wonderful shot-for-shot remake that has recently gained international attention and Paramount has picked up the rights to it. If you don't know of the adaptation, it's a beautiful labor of love from a bunch of kids who spent 8 years of their lives remaking RAIDERS. The inventiveness is incredible and the experience watching it is actually kinda magical. It's almost as if seeing their love of RAIDERS reminds you just how much you love the movie. Anyway, this is just a rumor as of right now, so don't take it as the word of God just yet, but I'd bet that we're going to get this or something very similar to it. Let's just hope that means even more RAIDERS special features!!!
Hello Mr. Knowles,
Aaron Gantt here from www.theindyexperience.com. Just wanted to let you guys know about an interesting rumor that has originated (sort of) in the latest issue of Total Film Magazine. In the new issue, they have a big feature on Spielberg's films including an interview with him. He talked a little bit about Indy IV, but the interesting thing is, Total Film says Paramount is planning on doing a Special Edition of Raiders on DVD that will include the shot-for-shot remake of Raiders (The Adaptation).
Here's the full story that I've posted:CLICK IT HERE FOR THE WHOLE ENCHILADA!!!
Not sure what to make of it, but it is intriguing. Thanks for your time!
High Regards,
~Aaron

I JUST SPEND FUCKING MONEY ON THE FIRST FUCKING EDITION!!! NOW I GOTTA BUY IT AGAIN?????? THEY FUCKING LIED TO ME!!!!!! DIE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!! DIE!!!!!!!...And thus, first? - - - George, The 7th Chicken!!!!
-
So let me get this straight: I spent a substantial amount of money (believe me, even $40 is alot to me)for a DVD set and now the studio decides to come out with another one (which might be another $20, maybe 30). WHY!!! Like I've said before, DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!
-
Once again, who cares about these douchebags who made a shot for shot remake of a perfect film? That's newsworthy? Why not make a shot for shot remake of a crappy film and make it better? No one should waste a moment of time with these lowlifes. This is how we reward uncreative people in this world and this is why the state of movies sucks ass right now.

So let me get this straight......after going from dumb ass department dtore clerk to moron twits at video stores asking for the widescreen edition to be told

they're not forcing you to buy it or anything. there are worse things in the world than owning two copies of the same movie. jeez.

I hope the "Spiderman II" DVD will include home movies of dumb kids falling off buildings while trying to climb them. That would be truly hilarious, although if such recordings existed, they would be on Ogrish or Stile by now.

That is, you buy the DVD and get a free ticket like when you picked up the new Special Edition PREDATOR and it had a free ticket for ALIEN VS PREDATOR. Least that way, the upfront cost (15 bucks) isn't heinsouly bad...and then you get a free ticket worth 10 bucks out of it (at least that's the price of a ticket here in LA where I am)...so that in the end the final price of adding this to your collection (and getting the kids' shot for shot remake which might be fun to have) is a measly $5. Nothing big. Other than pricing it VERY cheap like that with an incentive like the ticket, FUCK YOU PARAMOUNT for making such a big deal about the Indy box set and now turning right around to release a "Special Edition" so soon afterwards -- which I'm sure will be followed by other money whoring "Special Edition" releases of the other 2 Indy films. What the fuck, like Spielberg and Lucas need to hose the fans for MORE money yet again?
-

I'm still angry. FUCK YOU AGAIN, Paramount. And wait a minute.
by commando cody
...Why hose Indy fans by putting the kids' movie onto a "new" RAIDERS disc? Why can't they just put it on a disc for the YOUNG INDIANA JONES CHRONICLES which is still due -- which would make a helluva lot more sense since that show was specifically aimed at kids and as an "extra" you would then have kids watching a kids movie, perhaps "inspiring them" or some other bullshit thing. But other than that, FUCK YOU PARAMOUNT -- and all of Hollywood -- for this DVD bullshit that's getting out of control of "Hey, the DVD's been on the market 6 months. Let's remaster it again and toss in 2 more goodies we were holding back on to make 'em pay us full price to get the movie all over again. We're marketing geniuses!" Die, motherfuckers, die! Quit trying to put your Hovermatic vacuum tube into my wallet!

Sorry guys, but there's no goddamn way that I'm buying Raiders again until such a day as both VHS and DVD are obsolete and I can't get the spares to watch the versions I already have. Kudos to the kids who remade the movie, but really....I don't need another version on disc, and I absolutely don't need the Little Rascals remake. Sorry if I'm grouchy but I feel I've subsidised Paramount & Lucasfilm enough on this one.

You simply do not get it. These guys had no interest in improving this film, they know Raiders is a perfect film. They love Raiders and this was a way for them to play and have fun with a film they dearly loved. Do you really beleive they actually thought they were gonna make a better version. Come on think before typing. As far as hollywood remakes, I completely agree. They should focus on imperfect films that had great ideas but did'nt come together that well.
-
Do you people finally get it now? This is the way this works, hollywood is in the buisness to make money. If they have a good film that can be repackaged and resold repeatedly they will do it. Do not get upset it is just buisness. It is not just Lucas, watch the new releases each week. They repackage mediocre films also if they think they can make a buck. I can not wait to hear you guys whining when Hi-Def DVD becomes the norm and you are replacing your entire collection. This Raiders disk is actually a good idea in my opinion, I did not buy the box set because I felt there was only one movie worth buying in the set. I will not be purchasing the Star wars box set either. I own the laser disk set & that will do just fine until they release a hi def star wars set.
-
I'd kill to see the remake, personally I'd rather watch that than Indy 4 (or epsiode 3 for that matter). But to have it on a "special edition"?? I thought what they released WAS the special edition? If they had more extras, why the fuck didn't they put them in the box set? Fucking idiots. (and people wonder why PJ gets so much more respect than GL nowadays...)
-
Yeah, you guys are acting like they're totally out to screw you... if you bought the box set, you got a great updated, cleaned up version of RotLA, why do you need another? Just leave this to people like me, who didn't want to buy the whole box set, and were never that inspired to run out and buy a movie I've seen so many dozens of times I've got it memorized... now, adding the shot-for-shot remake makes it something I'm willing to plunk down money for, so NOW I'll buy a special edition of RotLA on DVD... so they made it worthwhile for someone... as for the people somehow pissed off that kids who spent 8 years doing a shot-for-shot remake and are getting some attention for it: they're KIDS... they did this out of a labor of love.. I can tell you that the best way to learn the mechanics of how to do something are to take something that's already been done, so you have a template, a "control group" for you scientist types, and then you try to get yours as close to the original as you can... if you can do it, you've learned the mechanics... besides, the original people who made RotLA had studio money, studio equipment, etc... why isn't it fascinating to see how kids without those things managed to overcome logistical and technical problems? I make music at home on my computer and on a 4-track, and I can tell you one of my favorite things is figuring out how to get sounds or effects normally only gotten in a professional studio, by figuring out alternate and creative methods of problem-solving.. that's what these kids did... I think it's a laudible accomplishment.. sure they didn't do something original, but they learned the mechanics of film-making in a way that most kids their age could never pull off, and now they've proven themselves technically adept, so maybe they can move on to making something new...

Going to see Raiders on the big screen tonight at Midnight!
by mortsleam
Gotta love the Main Art Theatre's Summer Midnight Movie program. The only thing better would be if they served alchohol. But I suppose that's what my trusty hip flask is for.
-
Where can I see pictures, a trailer, or any other media regarding this. I dunno about everyone else but I have this really bad picture in my head of some ridiculous actors using a shitty hand cam. But these guys make it sound like it's a full fledged production... yeah , maybe with a Fischer Price Movie Camera.
-
...and they called it unnecessary shit. Why is this different? Because they're kids? Fuck that, this whole enterprise is lame to the extreme.
-
And the studios have the nuts to complain about all the pirate action out there. Well if that ain't the pot calling... They ream us. Why can't we ream them? Am I wrong? I hope someone dupes all that extra stuff and posts it online somewhere.
"Great Movie, Great Price" -
I think people out there get the idea that the scene-for-scene remake was some commercial bid for stardom by some teenagers. Not the case. It was an exercise in how to make movies. It was never intended to be anything more than a home movie. The actors age about a decade over the course of filming. Marion grows breasts. The sets are hand fabricated. The stunts were actually performed by the kids. The fun in watching the film comes from going "how are they going to pull off this next scene?", and then seeing them do it. The ingenuity is what makes it worthwhile. Don't knock it, folks, it's actually a pretty cool little thing, certainly nothing to get yer knickers in a knot over. peace.
-
I agree... nothing to get upset over.. there's a HUGE difference in Gus van Sant doing a shot-for-shot remake and a bunch of kids doing it.. van Sant has studio expertise, actors, sets, props, and MONEY at his disposal; bunch of kids do not... again, as was said, the joy is in watching these people do something that obviously took ten times the work to overcome these shortcomings in materials and financing than would've with a studio, and pull it off... it's like all I'm hearing here is "either do something amazing and mindblowing and 100% original, or don't do anything at all, ever" and that's just bullshit...
-
I'm with you there... I'd LOVE to see someone do an entire stop-motion remake of all three of the original Star Wars movies using nothing but the original Mattel toys! Good lord, that would rule... I remember when I first saw the first 2/3rds of "A New Hope" done entirely in ASCII animation... not as fun to watch, but still amazing in much the same way as a kids remake of Raiders would be... just fascinating to see how much effort and problem-solving ingenuity went into it...

I just KNEW Speilberg was hold back scenes for a second release
by frankdrebin
Remember, Speilberg invented the concept of multiple versions with CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. This is the same guy who, along with Lucas, said that Sony ruined the THREE STOOGES shorts by colorizing them--yet Sony willingly INCLUDED THE ORIGINAL UNALTERED VERSIONS ON EACH DVD!
-
"Once again, who cares about these douchebags who made a shot for shot remake of a perfect film?" **** Well, the answer to that is quite obviously Spielberg cares.
-
Apparently, Spielberg was the only one who cared about The Terminal as well. There's no accounting for taste. Hey, maybe we can reward these jizzbags and give them a career remaking every spielberg movie! And then we can hire some other first year film students to remake the godfather. Hell-why not kill every screenwriter and just remake everything! I'm actually planning a shot for shot remake of 24 season one right now. Because I'm a fan, you see?
-
Buncha haters. They did it becuase it made them happy. And the only reason you wouldhave to buy it again is if you wanted to own their remake. Rent the thing if you just wanna see it. Sheesh.

Hold on there, professor. Lucas waited until he was ready to release Star Wars on DVD in as far as I know the only edition planned. Lord of the Rings however, there are more editions of that than I can count. And why is everything Lucas? He wrote the story and co-produced. Spielberg's the director and Paramount is the distributer.

Isn't there a shot-for-shot remake of Star Wars done with LEGOs
by jim jam bongs
This over-sentimentality over childhood indicates the maturity level of both Lucas and Spielberg. For example, ever notice that these men seem incapable of depicting romantic relationships between men and women well? And, what's worse, they inspired a whole a generation of young male filmmakers who are unable (or too scared) to explore mature relationships (that involve SEX, no!) between adult males and females that's anything beyond a Charlie Brown Peanut's gang level of cutesy poo dialogue. (I will refrain from naming names, but people here can probably immediately guess which young hotshot male directors with cult followings I'm referring to.) So it doesn't surprise me at all that Lucas and Spielberg want to officially release this shot-for-shot kid remake of Raiders. It appeals directly to their stunted mindset.
-
there will be no guns or swords in the new movie. They will be replaced with walkie talkies, and feathers. It was way to violent in the first release. We cannot subject our children to this much violence. We must save our children.

by sgt. blueberry
A shot for shot remake of any movie doesn't impress me in the least bit. In fact, using the term 'remake' is a bit much for these nimrods. Since remake invokes the idea of artistic license and re-imagining. It's a shoddy wanna be copy of a great movie made by people who had the time, money, support, and resources to create something original, but made a pathetic overblown copycat studet film instead. Give me a break and stop hyping this garbage.
