SHAUN OF THE DEAD Austin screening with Shaun, Ed and director-man in person! Plus info on other early screenings!!!

Published at:  Aug 26, 2004 3:59:45 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the dubious pleasure of informing you folks about the AICN screening of SHAUN OF THE DEAD next week (Wednesday, Sept. 1st). You've seen us jizzing all over this movie for months and months. Now you US people are going to be able to see it for yourselves (those of you cool enough to wait for a theatrical experience, that is!) and see if we're full of crap or not. I'm betting you're going to love it just as much as I do.

Anyway, tickets are available over at the Alamo Drafthouse's website (CLICK IT HERE, YOU SNEAKY MONKEYS!) and are very reasonably priced! I'm telling you... You don't want to miss this screening if you can help it. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright will be on hand and I hear that Edgar likes to give out handjobs if you ask him nicely, so that's a plus...

Seriously, this would be like seeing AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON almost a month early with David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and John Landis onhand to gush at live and in person. On top of that, I can vouche for Simon and Edgar being the coolest cats as I spent a good deal of time hanging out with them at Comic-Con. This Nick Frost fella is supposed to be sweet as well and I'm dying to meet him!

Not to be outdone by Moriarty's LA screening, I think there may be some wandering dead in Austin, too, plus some other surprises. I can't recommend this enough, folks.

For those not lucky enough to be in Austin next week, never fear! There will be sneak peeks all around America on the 17th. Here is a list of cities that'll host the sneaks:

Shaun of the Dead sneak screenings 9/17:

NY

LA

Boston

Philadelphia

Washington DC

Atlanta

Miami

Chicago

Minneapolis

Kansas City

Dallas

Houston

Austin

Denver

Phoenix

Seattle

Portland

San Francisco

Oakland

San Jose

San Diego

Sacramento

I hear there will be a limited ticket givaway for some of the screenings through the official movie site.

CLICK IT HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL SITE!!!

The flick comes out Sept. 24th and I'm hoping that it'll be a smash hit and encourage more of its type! Hope to see many of you at the Austin event! Fun times will be had by all!!!

-Quint

This movie is not that great, if you go to a theatre with high expectations you will be dissapointed. Go watch Donnie Darko again, that's a real clever movie.

What the hell does Donnie Darko have to do with it? Shaun of the Dead isn't supposed to be a "real clever film" - its a zombie comedy! Thats like saying "Dodgeball sucks, go watch Spider-man 2 - that's a real superhero movie!" I agree that SOTD has got far too much coverage on this site, especially for those of us in the UK who saw this movie a looong time ago, but it's still a great film - looking forward to the DVD!

    Donnie vs. Shaun

    by brendon

Donnie Darko? Clever? Well, it looked like ti was going to be.

And then the first fifteen minutes were over and...

Actually, we're heere to talk Shaun. I have been told by several people that they heard Edgar and Simon use the words "The Filth" in discussing their next movie. They are now denying this. Hmmm. Maybe a British slang misunderstanding, Filth and Fuzz both being...

Well, which ever way. They should be able to create another winner, right? But did anybody here hear those words too? Can abybody back my sources up?

    Halifax, NS

    by jabolio

Take this with a DEFINTIE grain of salt... For those of you in Halifax, NS (like the subject suggests), I was at the Oxford theatre the other day fr Before Sunset, and noticed a bunch of film cans in the lobby (as they often do)... I noticed that one of them had "Shaun of the Dead" on it. Now, it could have been the actual film, or it could have contained the film at one time and was now something else, I don't know for sure. Like any unreliable source, I didn't bother asking anyone about it, so like I said, grain of salt. No dates or anything, obviously, just thought it was kinda neat.

    You could go to RobinP's.

    by floyd gondolli

But you could come to mine where there will already be beer and women, not to mention dwarves carrying trays of cocaine as well as other illegal drugs. Of course we won't actually watch Shaun Of The Dead (although i would have bought it) because we well be indulging in mind-altering promiscuous sex. Now i know what your thinking, is this even relevant to the news story posted, the answer is, of course, NO. It is, in fact, just non-sensical gibberish and i am quite surprised to see you are still reading.

    SHAUN IS THE DADDY

    by blackharrypotter

Well done to AICN to maintaining their support for this fantastic film. This is a small-budget movie and needs all the help it needs to reach the widest audience possible, and word-of-mouth is essential, so don't listen to the tossers who say it isn't as good as AICN are saying - it's better!

Shaun of the Dead - worth the hype

    by jaguart

Shaun of the Dead is worth the hype, provied you understand that its a little well-made Zombie comedy. If you were gonna make a zombie comedy (non-musicial), you'd want to make Shaun of the Dead except with more boobies.. They did a lot of things right.

Hey Jabolio... I just went to www.EmpireTheatres.com and it is going to be released Sept. 24!

No mention of WHICH theatre (does Empire own the Oxford?).

BTW... you go to "Strange Adventures" by any chance?

    by bamf

But I saw this movie over a month ago on a Virgin Atlantic flight to Heathrow and it wasn't all that. A little funnier than Return of the Living Dead, with some great gore and good direction/editing. But the two annoying losers in the central roles and a lot of stupid people in their orbits just sucked the life out of this movie for me. AICN junkies will no doubt cream over the flick, but it's not all that. And if I never have to see the actor who plays that fat, farting slacker sidekick, I'll be a happier man. 2 out of 5 stars.

    Oxford -Shaun of the Dead

    by holyhole

Thats right! Oxford did have the print of Shaun of the Dead. I am a manager at the theatre and i was lucky enough to work a press screening for the film on Aug 13th. I have been looking forward to seeing the film for quite a while and when i saw that on the calendar i flipped! Everyone see this movie, it is just as good as they claim it to be!
p.s- Empire owns every theatre in the maritimes... except for maybe one or two drive-ins in the middle of nowhere.

SHAUN OF THE DEAD creators making comics' THE FILTH

    by cerebud

According to Comic Book Resources' (www.comicbookresources.com - check it out) Rich Johnston (a yellow rumor banner on this one):

SHAUN OF THE DEAD TEAM TO WORK ON "THE FILTH" MOVIE?

Chris Weston's appeal a few months ago, initially through this very column, then repeated across the net, seems to have paid off. Well, according to a couple of journalists I speak to, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, writer/star and writer/director of "Shaun of The Dead" (Region 2 DVD out in a few weeks, US film distribution in place) are currently working on the script of "The Filth." They plan to film in March, and "Spaced" co-writer and co-star Jessica Stevenson has already been cast.

As to "The Filth" creators/owners, Chris Weston denies knowledge, Grant Morrison doesn't reply to e-mails, but this looks a go. The pair have confirmed it to some in a very nudge-nudge, wink-wink style. ITV Teletext ran the story (before withdrawing it), but most people have just been told that the film is "a British action adventure" and it's title is "related to fuzz." The Fuzz, like The Filth, is British slang for the police.

Simon Pegg did not reply to emails. DC did not choose to comment.

I was a zombie in "Shaun Of The Dead." Now I want to be a giant sperm in "The Filth".

Oh, yeah, I forgot that British humor is arcane and incomprehensible to Americans. Keep your superior bullshit tone to yourself. Shaun of the Dead is silly and overrated. What does that have to do with one's nationality? You're a hater, don't be so passive aggressive about it.

...then I can watch it over and over again. 'Can I get any of you cunts a drink' - classic! I'd be interested to see how the humour translates to the american audience, personally I don't think it's that 'english' but who knows...I get pretty much all of american comedy so I suppose the door swings both ways. Also on the subject of people abroad buying spaced checked out the re-release of Big Train starring Simon Pegg and others which is very abstract but also very funny!!!

i saw this and asked a question to the cast!

    by compn

i saw this in birmingham with the cast! (outside of detroit). it was awesome! i got to ask nick if he shaved his pubes for the movie, the audience went dead quiet... they ARENT WORKING ON THE FILTH, or so they say... spaced in america whenever they can clear the music rights... bunch of asstards in the audience asking questions about the music in the movie (because american movies soundtracks really suck). if you like shaun, watch his tv series spaced, its great.
