IGN Posts An Awesome TEAM AMERICA Photo Gallery which was promptly removed!!

Published at:  Jul 21, 2004 2:25:03 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... those IGN folks weren't supposed to have those images yet, so they have been REMOVIED. Which sucks cuz I love puppets, but never got to see them. Sad. Oh well, the information must be repressed! Puppets must have privacy!

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

I woke up this morning to find a lot of e-mails in my inbox that looked just like this one:

Hey Harry,

You probably already know this, but IGN has a Team America image gallery up. This pics look AWESOME!

CLICK HERE AND BEHOLD THE BRILLIANCE!!

Dryponder

If you go back and read my TEAM AMERICA Set Visit article from last week, you’ll be able to tell that all of these images come from that opening scene in Paris, and this should give you a great idea of what the film’s style is like. Again... if you’re in San Diego on Saturday, make sure you hit the Paramount panel, where Matt and Trey will be making an appearance and showing a scene set in Cairo that I hear is one of the film’s highlights...

And great work, IGN. Excellent photos.

"Moriarty" out.

    Yeah, obviously inspired by Thunderbirds

    by terry_1978

Though it's gonna come off looking like a Mad TV skit, the R rating and their writing should more than suffice.

This is gonna be a success...

    by jaguart

The puppets and props will be collector's items in the future as historical tokens of "The War on Terror".

    Matt, Trey and South Park

    by mjbok1

South Park is one of the wittiest satires I have ever seen. If you can get past the potty humor (if it offends you) they have some of the most pointed barbs at what is wrong with society today. Plus there is just something inherently funny about cartoons (or puppets) that are profane. I think it is the fact that expectations of what a cartoon will say or do are so opposite of what happens on South Park. Lastly, apart from some of the more outlandish things (aliens, Jesus living in South Park) I think that South Park is one of the more realistic portrayals of life on TV today. Think about when you were kids, didn't you talk like that? Kids I knew did.

The greatest thing about South Park. . .

    by gurglesnap

is that it's a tv show that actually has a VOICE. It doesn't feel like it's written by committee. (Even though it may be for all I know.) Some of it falls flat, but mostly it shines because it's so idiosyncratic. Enjoy the show while it lasts.

    Just a question...

    by carlosthedwarf

Will the strings be taken out digitally? I just find em' all really distracting, like watching older wire-fu movies before they could be easily removed... I dunno if one of the rewarding factors of watching marionettes is seeing all those strings, but with all the characters on the screen at once, all the strings could get kinda' distracting... I've never seen Thunderbirds; only the Saturday Night Live spoofs, which were hilarious... I'm sure the comedy is gonna be hilarious and make me forget the strings, but in the stills, they're distracting... I dunno..

  • awesome stuff. Seeing the wires and everything. I love it. You can really tell Bill Pope worked on it because every shot is clear and excellently framed. should be surprisingly good looking for a movie about freakin puppets.

Film Threat reported this a long time ago, didn't they? They even have links to a site with photos. Do a search over there.

  • thats the bloody point. Jesus tapdancin Christ. Anyway, I loved the dead-eyed stare look of the puppets and the lighting and detail and framing was just excellent. new rule: 13 year olds shouldn't be allowed near keyboards anymore on AICN.

This movie looks awesome. Actual thunderbirds movie will BOMB so

    by krims0nknite

Live action thunderbirds was a stupid idea. Even stupider was to make it a movie for 10 year olds, anyone see the previews with the kids? Yeah, the team of kid thunderbirds. Anyway this looks and sounds wonderfully funny. Must see.

    by rev_skarekroe

They just look like the old Thunderbirds puppets. The winning feature in this flick will be the jokes, not the marionettes. sk

JoBlo had to take the pics down, too. They're puppets anyway. It's not like it going to be as cool as a picture of Lindsey Lohan's new implants.

    Where are the motorcycles?

    by childe roland

Wasn't Team America originally a toy-themed comic book about a stunt motorcycle group that fought crime in their spare time? I'm sure it was a Marvel property. And the toys were like those Evel Knievel rev-up motorcycles that you turned the crank on and then let fly to do whatever the heck they would (and your dog would chase it accross the floor and grab it by the head and then you'd have to kick him until he let it go). Those things rocked! I guess if these puppets had motorcycles, they'd rock as well. As for South Park, it was highly topical and funny up until the middle of last year. It's gone pretty flacid since... almost as if the boys have lost their passion. Puppets that do creepy or inappropriate shit are always funny. I give you the sock puppet in The Tick cartoon, which lived on the hand of a stupid meathead villain and admonished that everyone else should "Read a book!" He was funny. So are those evil puppets on the TV show Meatwad watches during Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Them's some evil puppets alright. And Aqua Teen Hunger Force is on top of its game right now, but I could see it going the way of South Park when the creators build up an immunity to whatever drugs they're taking. The answer, obviously, is better drugs for everyone. Want some of my Ritalin?
