Brundlefly Delivers BATMAN BEGINS Trailer Description!

Hey folks, Harry here... the bet is, this'll be attached to the fetid Scatwoman which is soon to be released... or at the very least shown at the San Diego Comic Con this coming weekend. I'm really curious to hear what sort of music they put on all of this. We shouldn't have long to wait now! Here ya go...

Hey Harry

Brundlefly here - my last post was a review for 'Around the world in 80 days' - i copped a lot of crap in the talk backs for reviewing an 'illegal copy' ala 'The Hulk' - well it wasn't an illegal copy i saw - i viewed the film while doing my job....anyway, thought i'd mention it because this is something i also saw during the course of my day today.

I was privy to a rough cut of the 'Batman Begins' trailer.

I usually find trailer descriptions tedious but for this film I'll make an exception. ..

Here's a shot by shot (stylistically, the films look is raw &bleak, in fact it looks a lot like Nolan's 'Insomnia'...funny that, being the same cinematographer...)

Anyway -

The silvery warners Logo appears (like the Harry potter one)

(Christian Bale's voice narrates the trailer in a raspy, low voice)

* "They told me there was nothing out there"

A low angle shot tracking in front of a bleak rainswept wayne manor. It appears to be a wake. A few people mill about with black umbrellas.

*"they told me there was nothing to fear"

Shot of Alfred (caine) with an umbrella, standing in the rain with a young Bruce next to him.

* Low angle shot looking up from the bottom of a well

- A silhouetted young boy falls through the boarded up opening, he drops down towards the camera, debris flying about him.

* back to close up of small boy in the rain next to Alfred.

"but the night my parents were murdered i caught a glimpse of something..."

*flash cut to a terrified young Bruce cowering in terror, he is partially splattered in blood..

*"....I've looked for it ever since" - an adult Bruce walks slowly along a rainy dock looking out over the ocean. Fades out.

*shot of a rugged iceland mountain range.

*bruce's lonely figure climbs to the top of a snowy mountain range and begins to walk down the other side towards a lonely settlement.

*"I went around the world....searched in all the shadows"

In the barren, icey tundra Bruce enters what looks like a tibetan village, it's desolate, run down, delapidated...

*"and there is something out there in the darkness".

In a blizzard, Bruce climbs a stone stairway to a hilltop monastery.

*"something terrifying..."

Bruce enters the monastery in a shot similar to Aragorn entering King Theodan's keep at Helm's deep in The Two Towers - pushing two massive doors open, light shafts in etc...

*"...that will not stop until it gets revenge"

A feral looking Bruce sits in a dungeon like room, he's dishevelled, dirty.

A shadowy figure moves towards him - we do not see it's face - Bruce's head snaps around to see the assailant - the music climaxes - cut to black -there is a long pause...

*shot of Christian Bale's face , he says: "me"

There is a flash frame of the picture we've already seen - a brooding, costumed Batman in dramatic lighting -cuts to black - out of the blackness comes the rust coloured, revamped bat logo - no title - it says "summer 2005'"

so there you go Harry - personally i think it looks fantastic - Nolan you da frickin' man.

SINGER CONFIRMED FOR SUPERMAN, READ THIS NOW!

    by Cletus Van Damme

Bryan Singer Confirmed for Superman! Source: Variety Sunday, July 18, 2004 Both good news and bad news. Variety has just confirmed that "X-Men" series director Bryan Singer signed a deal Friday to develop and direct Warner Bros.' Superman. The bad? He will not be doing X-Men 3. Here are highlights from the article, we'll link to the full article if/when it becomes available... -Singer, who helmed "The X-Men" comicbook adaptations for Fox, is expected to work with "X-2" scribes Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris to draft a tentpole that starts production late this year in Australia. -A tug-of-war over Singer's next project had been going on for weeks, with Fox's third "X-Men" installment competing with Warner's remake of "Logan's Run" to land the helmer. It now looks likely that Singer will not do the third "X-Men," even though he has an overall deal with Fox. -Besides the recent exit of helmer McG from the "Superman" project, producers Neal Moritz and Gilbert Adler have apparently disappeared from the scene as well. The fate of Jon Peters also is up in the air. -The studio apparently scrapped a J.J. Abrams script that WB once was high on. -The studio tapped Australia as a reasonably priced shooting location, with a budget said to be around $200 million, and wanted to put the franchise in the hands of Adler and Moritz. But Moritz's deal was never made and it's uncertain whether Adler, who did have a deal, will remain involved. -The WMA-repped Singer also is said to have a new take on the pic. Before his involvement, it was to revolve around Superman's battle with Lex Luthor and a mysterious figure from Krypton who has come to hunt down the Man of Steel. -"My interest in Superman dates back many, many years," Singer said. "In fact, it was the Richard Donner classic film that was my day-to-day inspiration in shaping the X-Men universe for the screen. I feel that Superman has been late in his return and it is time for him to fly again."

In fact the whole script is really top notch until batman turns up. They just did too good a job building the story around him that it just seems so forced to bring Batman into the mix.

Good Lord, only the first two messages were in order

    by Frisco

And that's hard not to do, y'know what I mean? Harry, PLEASE do what it takes to fix the talkback area! It really is one of the things that distinguishes AICN from the wannabes. And it just wouldn't be the same with a CHUD-style "click here to see what people are saying about this story" message board either. I can't tell you how many times I've read a story and been sucked into posting to or lurking in that story's Talkback just 'cause I saw an interesting subject line down here. <=--=> Anyway, regarding this particular story: I think the trailer sounds extremely nifty, especially if it "looks" how my imagination is interpreting Brundlefly's description, what with the gritty Wayne Manor shots and the soaring "Year One in Tibet" wilderness sequences. It will be interesting to see how this story plays out. One one hand, the previous Batman movies returned again and again to the young Master Bruce backstory. But on the other hand, did we ever actually learn anything of substance about what makes Batman tick? Really? I'd say the first hour of Spider-Man told us more about Peter Parker's motivations and personality than all of the Batman movies combined have told us about Bruce Wayne's. Hopefully this movie will change that. <=--=> Oh yeah, and Toni Collette is the perfect Lois Lane.

  • I'm REALLY excited about the possibilities for SUPERMAN. I like the idea that Christopher Reeve could IN FACT return as Superman. I believe that we are at a point technologically that we can convencingly make it happen, in making the correct choices as to HOW to pull it off. I'm NOT saying to simply paste Reeve's head onto a stuntman's body. I'm saying that you give REAL reason why Superman has been gone for 25 years, and when he returns, he wears a suit that is not only suitable to the story, but a suit that makes it easier to pull off effects-wise (while being inspired by the original costume). I like the idea that he's been gone for 25 years because the world was led to believe he died (perhaps an official announcement from then President of the United States) ... when in fact he's 10,000 feet below the surface of Area 51. Maybe it was Doomsday that broke his neck, ... whatever the reason, he is still broken, but ALIVE. And so that I don't repeat EVERYTHING I've said before, I'll cut to the chase... When the world needs him the most, military scientist give him a "genetically engineered armored suit" created with his own cells. I REALLY believe there is SO MUCH potential here ... and it would be the direction I personally would choose to go (despite many nay-sayers, I'm sure). I believe it COULD in fact be pulled off effects-wise. When Spielberg had the dinosaurs created for "JURASSIC PARK", he relied on more than just computer animation/manipulation/effects ... as there were animatronics, etc... But George Lucas simply attatched Christopher Lee's head to a stuntman's body in "ATTACK OF THE CLONES" ... and don't forget Grandpa in "SPY KIDS 3D" ... because from my understanding, Ricardo Montalban was in a wheelchair the whole time during filming. I believe Christopher Reeve can ... and will ... fly again. Do it, Warner Bros. -- Forgive me for saying this, ... but have some James Cameron sized balls and do this right!!

    by Psyclops

I may be geeking out here but that description gave me chills. It sounds very cool and almost reads like a horror movie until we get to the logo at the end. I really like the fact that they're focusing more on Bruce Wayne instead of his superhero alter ego. They could have just done close-up's of the suit with the familiar Elfman theme to let the audience know right away that a new Batman movie was coming but this approach works much better. The fact that you only get a split second glimpse of Bale in the costume along with the new logo should be a real surprise for those who are out of the loop.

    Batman Returns

    by Big_Bad

I cannot express how excited I am over Christopher Nolan's BATMAN BEGINS movie. The cast, the (leaked) script, the mood, etc. Drawing heavily from Frank Miller's BATMAN: YEAR ONE, this looks to be the best big screen adaption of this particular character. As for the proposed Sperman movie, I don't know what to think. everything I have read about this film just makes me cringe and shudder. The fact McG is gone can only be good news, although I am not sure yet about Bryan Singer. The fact he has binned JJ Abrams script is a good move (all that Krypton not being destroyed and Lex Luthor being Krytonian was just WRONG!). As for the "Bring Back Christopher Reeve" suggestion, I would rather not. I didn't rate the early Superman films. Belive me, Reeve looked the part of Superman and had that down, but his cardboard cutout portrayal of Clark Kent ruined it for me. Clark should be a proper character and NOT just Superman in normal clothes flaling over, and dropping things every few minutes. That is the main attraction of both Superman and Batman: they are the complete oppsite of each other. Bruce Wayne 'died' when his parents were buried, and Bruce Wayne was an 'act' - he WAS Batman, and the millionaire partying, drinking and philandering playboy was the act. This is perfectly demonstrated in THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS where, after Batman has been retired, Bruce has become an empty shell of himself. Clark, on the other hand, is the real person; only changing his voice, appearance and stance when his dons his red and blue suit - thus making Superman the 'act'. Clark wants a life as a normal person, so the whole 'cardboard cutout' portrayal in the movies goes against that. The two Spider-Man films have illustrated the need for both the perfect balance between superhero and alias - Peter Parker and Spider-Man both getting as much storyline as the other, often intertwining. Nolan seems to have this mastered as well in the new film. I find it strange to believe that in approximate two hours with the casts and budgets these movies have, they cannot capture the complexities of the characters that both the Superman and Batman animated shows do in twenty minutes. How does THAT work? I don't know what other people think, but I would love Warner Bros. to hold back just a little and wait for Tom Welling's character to leave Smallville - both the town and the show - and head to Metropolis. The film could pick up there with his rise as Superman, while trying to keep a job and his own identity as Clark as well. I know that's not going to happen with SMALLVILLE doing so well at the moment, but they could wrap SMAILLVILLE at the end of the school year and take let Welling hit the big screen. I don't know what other people think. It's probably just me again.

    Reeve, Caveziel, & Glover: Analysis & Wrap-Up

    by TheWoodMan

Crispin Glover as the Joker: a good suggestion. He's got the right face and wouldn't need too much prosthetic work, he's about the right age, he's tall and skinny enough, and he's already crazy. Good choice. Jim Caveziel as "Superman" director: why? Who is this guy; does he have any qualifications? I'm not saying he'd do a bad job, I just bring this up because someone/someones keep obsessively dropping his name in Superman-related (and, as in this case, non-Supes-related) TalkBacks. Just because he played Jesus in a movie doesn't mean he's a demigod who can do amazing things in the real world. Christopher Reeve as Superman: now, come on. His wheelchair-bound condition aside, he's just too old. Sorry. Unless they're doing a "Kingdom Come" movie, which doesn't seem particularly likely. Though I'm sure the Baby Boomers would be thrilled to see a Superman who's "one of them", dealing with love handles, thinning hair, bladder control issues, and arthritis... so fuck Baby Boomers. Fuck them right up their stupid fucking asses. That is all.

  • July 19, 2004, 11:04 a.m. CST

Thanks for tossing it off as a "robot suit" ... which IS NOT wha

    by JDanielP

I'm talking about a suit that would attach itself along Clark's spinal column ... not unlike the mechanical arms of Doctor Octopus (in only HOW it's attached). And with this new Superman suit being made from Clark's own cells, it would only be an expansion/extention of his own body. I absolutely LOVE the idea that Superman has been dead to the world all these years because we were led to believe that ... yet our governement has him thousands of feet below the earth's surface in a military facility, ... and have been studying him all these years. And YES, ... not unlike the graphic series/novel "KINGDOM COME" (painted by Alex Ross) ... Superman returns again. Older, ... but more wise ... and reborn. I'm a HUGE comic book fan and a HUGE movie fan ... and I don't have an ounce of problem with Warner Bros. branching into new territory AS LONG AS it stays TRUE in spirit to SUPERMAN comic book roots. -- I STILL dream of making movies ... and you can disagree ALL you want, but I know in my mind's eye that THIS has GREAT potential ... and we ARE at a point technologically that it CAN be done with Christopher Reeve. I WON"T TAKE IT BACK no mater how many of you slam me for it. I've dreamed of making movies since I was very young ... and this would work. If James Cameron wanted to go this direction with it, would you have a problem with it then?????

As for Superman, I'm kind of pissed. Not so much that Singer isn't directing X3, he's trying to do some crazy things like putting the film in continuation with the old Superman movies, along with trying to get Christopher Reeves back by some means. I'd definately go with a Smallville continuation with Tom Welling. The way he's going could lead to a disaster of large proportions, and I don't want that to happen, considering that movies like LXG and Catwoman are dragging down superhero movies a notch.

    catwoman complaints

    by SCYTHEOFLUNA

I am a little curious as to why everyone is already dogging Catwoman. The film hasn't opened yet, and really what can anyone tell from the trailers. They have been showing the same kind of action shots and campy dialogue that you see in any trailer for a comic based film. Lets face it. if they had initially started promoting Spiderman 2 with the cheesy line about the suit giving him a "wedgie" (also not the actual line he used in the movie) everyone would have written it off as crap too. You can't always judge a film by the trailer. My point is that regardless of whether you like Halle Berry or how you feel about her performance as Storm in the X flicks, NONE OF YOU HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE YET. And considering how many years have passed while they went back and forth with this project I think it is a miracle that the film was made at all. Let alone the fact that we narrowly escaped Ashley Judd playing the feline fatale. (Sorry Ms. Judd but Catwoman is supposed to have curves) Aside from that, the last couple of Warner Bros. superhero outings have been so terrible (STEEL, and the revolting Schumacher BAT-films) that we should be thankful that they haven't written the whole genre off. I think that the relative success that Marvel is having with superhero films has pushed W.B. to up the ante on how they approach the characters. Hence,W.B. is finally making a new Batman film that has a damned good chance of being the best attempt yet, and finally the Catwoman film that has been talked about since Michelle Pheiffer wore the black vinyl gloves back in the 90's for good or bad is finally being released. I can't for the life of me figure out where all of the hostility regarding this catwoman film is coming from. I can't tell enough from the trailers to even tell how to feel about it yet. That's why I am keeping an OPEN MIND. I know being a film and comic geek that can be hard to do. Eventually we are going to have to realize that these characters are older than any of us, and that though we may feel as though we know the characters best and how they should be realized on screen they are fictional characters owned by a corporation for the purpose of generating revenue. And really thatis what it comes down to. The corporation that buys the rights to these films is trying to make money. They do a ton of research before they open a single can of film or sign a single contract. They spend a great deal of time deciding what kind of movie people are going to want to pay to see. Sometimes it works and we get a great film like the original Batman, and sometimes it fails miserably and we get Batman and Robin. You have to take the good with the bad and if you can't at least wait to actually see the movie BEFORE you start trying to play Ebert and Roeper, then you are really hurting no one but yourself. These characters are older than most of us comic geeks out there, and though some of us love these characters like family people need to learn to stop taking this stuff seriously. If you didn't like the Punisher,or you think Catwoman is gonna suck FINE. DON'T GO TO SEE IT. And don't buy it on DVD. There, you just utilized your own free will. So until you can build your own multi million dollar movie empire and make the Catwoman film that YOU feel should be made keep comic snob attitude to yourself. And quit trying to look like a cool insider by trashing movies you have not seen yet!

The script in question is the FIRST DRAFT. It is NOT the final shooting script. Things will naturally have changed during the filmmaking process. But, you know what? The script is actually pretty damn good for a FIRST DRAFT. Why don't you read it before shooting your mouth off?

    catwoman post

    by SCYTHEOFLUNA

I'm not sure why my last post showed up 3 times, and I in no way meant to diminish the fact that Spidey 2 kicked ass, I just wanted to illustrate that movie trailers are specifically designed to place peoples asses in theatre seats. Nothing more, nothing less. You just can't judge a film you haven't seen, and you can't expect them to make the same movie over and over. This movie is not about Selina Kyle, it is a completely different story, about a completely different person, and yeah, the core fan base may be a little miffed at the departure, but if you can get past your own personal view of the characters and suspend your disbelief for a minute, you might be suprised. For instance, I saw the Punisher with no expectations, and where most fans were dissappointed, I actually found that going into the film with no hyped up expectations, I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, because I saw it for what it was INSTEAD OF EXPECTING TOO MUCH so take these movies for what they are ENTERTAINMENT and quit being so melodramatic every time you don't like the director or the casting doesn't go your way

catwoman, batman, joker , and supes

    by grambo

scytheofluna, Catwoman will suck, anyone can see that. it's not even the same character from batman. halle berrys character is named patience phillips, not selina kyle, she doenst live in gotham, and she has super cat powers (i.e. spiderman's powers) instead of being a superskilled thief. they should've called the movie pussy cat or some shit, instead of even preteding its a comic adaptaion. moving on, batman sounds really cool. I dont know why you guys are talking up crispin glover for the joker, its already confirmed that cillian murphy from 21 days later is playing the scarecrow. superman should be an epic. imagine seeing him destroy an entire space armada of brainiac's drones! the technology should be advanced enough to pull that off by hte time they make it, so there's no reason why singer should scale down the fantasy elemnts like he did with x-men. unfortunately, singer seems to lack the balls and imagination it takes to make an awesome superheroe movie. too bad.

    batmobile and trailer release date

    by grambo

follow some links from superherohype.com and you find pics of the batmobile driving around a field next to a parking lot, in addition to the release date of the trailer (aug. 13 being shown with AVP)I think that thye made a good choice, because i think i speak for alot of batman fans when i say that there is no way im going to sit through scatwoman just to catch a glimpse of bats (even though the prospect of a halle bery/ sharon stone cat fight isn't completely un appetizing) p.s. no pun intended in using "catfight", but i couldnt find a way around it.

This movie is going to attract a record breaking number of the grotesquely obese. All eating whole pigs and drooling pesto on the theater floor. This movie is going to rock, but I just can't bring myself to see it with all those titanic bodies wanting to eat my arms off while I watch. A shame that.

    CATWOMAN

    by SCYTHEOFLUNA

Yes, I am well aware that they have chosen to create an entirely different character than the catwoman from the comics. So what's your point? That no one should ever alter a characters persona OR change a character completely? Ever hear of ELSEWORLDS? And what about the new Batgirl? Should they cancel that comic series because no one but Barbara Gordan can be Batgirl? Look, the new CATWOMAN movie may very well suck. Of course since I haven't seen the film I can't make that judgement. I know people feel cool when they rip on a movie that hasn't been released yet. But it doesn't make you look like a hollywood insider, it gives people the impression that you are pompous and over opinionated (this being directed at no one in particular) regardless, this movie is not about the same Catwoman from the comics. (though the point could also be made, and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong but isn't Selina Kyle actually the second Catwoman and not the original?)Hmmm Maybe someone should hang Tim Burton for having the audacity alter characters from the comics. So they changed the alter ego and locale Big friggin deal. Comics characters are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS. Guess what, Spiderman doesn't have organic webbing in the comics and Batmans parents werent killed by the Joker. And if we are really going to get critical HALF of the stuff that happens in Smallville never happened in the comics. The movies and the comics are not the same thing. You can't take a character with 30 or 40 years of history and cram it all in a two hour movie in a way that is guarunteed to please everyone. It's a movie ADAPTATION. Wherein they take a character and ADAPT that character to fit the big screen. They can't very well do a Catwoman film with Selena Kyle as the main character in Gotham city if they haven't introduced Batman yet. Lets not forget that BATMAN BEGINS won't be out for another year. You people just expect too much. These are comic characters not historical figures. Things change, from the lame 2099 comics that Marvel did in the 90's to the much better Kingom Come series of today. Most people don't want to see the same set of stories with the same vision of the characters over and over and over. If it doesn't change it isn't natural. So quit being such a friggin purist. We are talking about comic movies not comic books. Catwoman can't be any worse than the last couple of Batman flicks and even if it is YOU DON'T KNOW FOR SURE YET BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT. So until you have, shut up and keep your negativity to yourself. CATWOMAN IS NOT REAL and if they changed her name big deal. As long as the story is decent and the action is solid. Quit your complaining. Maybe some of you would have felt better if they had titled it "CATWOMAN:REVISED" Because you can't seem to grasp the fact that they have re envisioned the character.

    by diskoh

the problem isn't people taking the comics too seriously. it's you not taking them seriously enough. picture this: warner bros makes a movie called "The Catcher In the Rye." and in this adaptation of the book, they change "Holden Caufield" to "Bob Richardson." and instead of it depicting his nervous breakdown, the movie was about him teaching a kindergarten class. would you think that was stupid of warner bros? maybe even that the film "sucks?" now the only thing separating this from catwoman is your own opinion on the legitimacy of comic books as literature. and to several generations of people they are a quite important art form. so in conclusion, please hush and maybe even suck it a little.

    Big Bad get real...

    by workshed

Superman was BORN as Superman and therefore Clark is the act. Batman being the opposite of course. This is what makes Superman unique in comic books. He was not the result of mutation or psychological damage (a-la-Batman). I can see your arguement but (when taking the entire history of both comics into accout) that is the way it, irrefutably so.

    by Big_Bad

Thanks, Workshed, because I can see your point. He was born as Superman... but he was raised as Clark Kent. He was Clark for about thirty years before creating the Superman personna surely? His poweres devloped over time but with his parents' influence and love, he was taught to not disrepect his powers (cos his mother Lara wished him to rule his new home when she knew Jor-El was sending him to a planet with a "yellow star"). Although he was always Superman, Clark created the 'personna' of Superman to keep his life as Clark private - thus enabling him to live a 'normal life'. I may well be wrong, but that's my take on the thing. And it beats talking about CATWOMAN...

Don't know if anyone is still in this TB, but you should go to theforce.net and check out the Grayson "trailer" which was posted there today. Yes, it has its flaws, but damn if it wasn't a total geekfest. It's fan-made films like that which will eventually force moviemakers to reassess using "real" superhero costumes over the black leather deal. If you look past some of the cheese, there really is potential.

Listen kid, you obviously dont know what the FUCK you're talking about, so why don't you shut the hell up. We're talking about bryan singer here, a man who created a masterpiece such as the usual suspects and had the GENIUS to put kevin spacey in such a role, cast patrick stewart as professor X, and WHILE he may have fucked up on the score of not placing glenn danzig as wolverine, the photography was fantastic, the angles were pretty fucking sweet, the CGI was satisfactory. I mean seriously, what the fuck did you want from him? yellow spandex? you want the, go watch the fucking cartoon with the rest of the little kiddies and leave the rest of us to enjoy a man who OBVIOUSLY has potential that everyone else but YOU sees you fucking moron, cause WARNER BROTHERS GAVE HIM SUPERMAN! SUPERMAN! the ONLY other person I would have wanted to see do that, was tim burton. so seriously...if you're going to bitch about how the xmen was made, at LEAST have the fucking courtesy to go read the god damned comics, starting with the classic storylines like Age Of Apocalypse, Fatal Attraction, Zero Tolerance and CABLE so you can buy a fucking clue and understand WHY its so bloody difficult to cast people that will suit the characters the portray. Seriously. sit the fuck down, you're pissing me off.
