Cool piece from IRON GIANT

Published at:  Aug 05, 1998 2:37:03 AM CDT

Well once again we have a piece from IRON GIANT, a flick I'm really looking forward to. Brad may be dealing with half the budget of a Disney or a Dreamworks flick, but this film has all the heart and love of a classic. A bunch of young animators and talent that is out to show the world how it's done.

IRON GIANT vs. the Giants of Animation

    by hal

It's good to see that there is still a creavtive drive amongst the talnted new animators not to become just a part of the major groups such as Disney, Dreamworks or Fox, but to strive to independently create new films unlike anything else availible (essentially Disney movies, nobody's trying much else). I hope MONONOKE HIME and IRON GIANT both manage to do that.

Thanks alot Harry - Yeah right

    Hey Harry,

Thanks for not giving me any credit for the Iron Giant model sheet. I go thru the trouble of giving you this pic and you just blow me off as if I never existed. Is this how you treat all your contributors? That pic has been up at Animation
    Blast (http://www.awn.com/blast)
as a bonus surprise for our readers of the Talkback forum (a name which you incidentally stole as well). It's been up for well over a week at http://www.awn.com/blast/irongiant and considering you knew who gave it to you, you could have been a little more diplomatic in how you treat the very contributors that keep your site going. Or maybe it's because I didn't use a gay code name like all your other contributors who have to hide behind the sheets. Well, you can call me "Just Steal my Pictures" - how about that?

    Thanks again Harry,

    Yours,
    Amid

    GIVE CREDIT!!!!

    by moggy

I hope you read the last message by Amid Amidi, who sent you that image. That's just downright wrong to not give the guy credit - you gave the guy at countingdown.com credit for those Antz images, (which are on the official site) and I'd think that a character layout sheet is more of a gem to give props to. You realize that all your news is GIVEN to you by your loyal readers. If it wasn't for the fans, you wouldn't be as far as you are now. Considering your at home all the time, you easily could have taken a minute to write, "this image was courtesy of Amid Amidi from Animation Blast at http://www.awn.com/blast" It's that easy. Think about it next time.

    Thanks Alot/ Give Credit

Theres nothing wrong with being a geek, we all are to some extent if we adore this website...but there is something wrong with being a geek, wussy, and a loser.

Anyone who gets upset for not being credited with sending in a leak (of someone else's work, no less) falls into all three catagories.

    Iron Giant

    by pam hogarth

Imagine my surprise when I brought up your page of cool stuff from Iron Giant and saw Hogarth prominently displayed across the bottom of the screen. So my question is, was Brad Bird influenced by cartoonist, illustrator, teacher and author Burne Hogarth (my late father-in-law)? Does anyone know?

    Thanks.

    Warner Bros ain't independant

    by animania

I have to tell you, Hal, that Iron Giant isn't being produced by no young upstart independant...It's Warner Bros, and they have their own long twisted bass-akwards history in animation. Fortunatly, unlike most of what they've done lately (Space Jam, Quest), this looks like a GOOD MOVIE.

And to Pam Hogarth...every decent animator who ever learned to draw has read or owns Burne's books. They're on the unwritten So-you-want-to-be-an-animator book list. I don't know if the character's name was a direct hommage. Good question.

    settin you straight

    by ironman

Sorry Pam, look at the original book by Ted Hughes, Iron Man (Faber and Faber, 1968). Hogarth has always been the character's name.
BTW, Animania, although there may be a WB logo in front of the film, Brad Bird has almost total creative control of the Giant. It is based on the book, but Brad and the story guys rewrote it for the screen. There's no lame fart-jokes, sidekicks, or bad musical numbers here. Its truly going to be a different animated film!
Also, the Princess is right on. If anyone should credit for anything on Harry's or AWN's page it should be the company producing the art. (WB or in the case of Antz PDI and Dreamworks) not the people leaking or posting stolen artwork.

    Iron Giant

    by buddyboy

Everything from "Iron Giant" looks awesome. I know they're probably early test stills, but it looks great nonetheless. It looks like a CARTOON--not some crummy attempt to make a live action film by drawing it. Glad to hear everyone in management involved in the disasters "Space Jizz" and "Quest for Crap-a-lot" have been canned.
    Can't wait for "Iron Giant!"
