It's ok, but I prefer some of the earlier posters. This reminds me of a T2 poster I used to have to much.

Nice to see that they're not ashamed of the characters geek roots (because really, that is a very geekish poster). The eye looks weird though - has it been changed from Spidey 1? I remember reading that the suit was changed slightly for the second film - is this one of the things they changed?

As for the Spiderman 2 poster... all I can yell is "INNOVATION!!!!" -
Cool poster.
-
Now let me get this straight...Kirsten Dunst is supposed to be the "pretty" one. Right? I think I'm the only person on Earth that couldn't care less about this movie.

Gotta say I really like this poster, very reminiscent of the comics. It seems like all the poster work I've seen for Spidey 2 so far has been brilliant. My particular favourite has to be the one of an unmasked Peter, as seen from behind, looking over New York. I think that that one image totally captures the idea of "With great power comes great responsibiliy". Because of his powers the whole of New York is Spidey's responsibility and that poster captures just how daunting a prospect that is. I mean think about even with all of the powers who wouldn't feel scared and under immense pressure to be looking after an entire city. It reminds of a scene from the comics where Peter is asked if great power comes with great responsibility, then what comes with that and he gestures out of a window towards the city and simply replies "All that."
-
This is basically an homage to a Spider-man drawing from the late 60's/early 70's by John Romita, I believe. I seem to remember it being the back cover to a Marvel Treasury Edition. If anything, T3 ripped off Romita.
-
It's been done hundreds of times over the years, but Ditko did it first (in Amazing Fantasy #15?). Can't find the original image but here's the mini-bust version based on it

And the poster is lame. I don't care if it was in the original comic. Since then that obvious theme was used in like 30 movies. The other posters were better. Still waiting for it on DVD since like most comic book movies I guarantee I can predict most of the script based on the trailers.
-
Is that supposed to be Mark Hammil in that image? How about a couple shitty looking Zoanoids crawling around below his head?
-
Anyone who thinks this is a ripoff of Terminator is obviously unfamiliar with the spider-sense "tingling" images created by Steve Ditko or is too fucking young to know better. Depictions of duality in poster art goes back farther than Spidey.

That looks nothing like an Alex Ross painting. The poster is lame compared to the previous ones (both Spidey 1 and 2). Not very inspired.

That poster is AWFUL.

I never realized Tobey McGuire looked like Elijah Wood, especially when they're doing the same dumb half-smile. Gaaah.

Mediocre at best is more like it...especially for a final poster. Grey hit the nail on the head...the shot from behind looking over the skyline is the best poster for this movie.

And Hulk Hogan will see me doing it and buy the movie rights from me, and Sam Raimi will direct it. "Slingin' a Web on Spidey" starring Hulk Hogan as Rowdy Roddy Piper's gradeschool janitor, who used to torment poor Roddy endlessly in the bathroom stalls. "Show me that Hot Rod, brother!"

Looks nothing like Ross, and movie posters do this all the time (not the half and half face thing, which seems a bit common too), the photo-realistic artwork stuff.

That poster sucks. A much better ad would have been to have Kirsten Dunst dry on one half, morphing into wet see-thru shirt Kirsten Dunst on the other half. I would have already pre-ordered my tickets if that was the ad.

Several reasons as to why I'm here: 1.Free country and all 2. Boredom 3. Trying to drum up some excitement for this movie. I *want* to be jazzed about it, but the first one was only "meh" and so far I can't find anything exciting about 2. So there ya go.

by rupee88
It looks ok to me..kinda cool, but nothing incredible. Who cares that much anyway?? It's just a poster to sell the film....talk about having too much free time to argue about a movie poster. And I don't mean "fag" as in homosexual...I mean "fag" in stupid asswipe geeky fag.

You guys need to do a google search on Bob Peak and remind yourselves what good, no great, cinema poster art used to look like before Photoshop robots took over the art.
This is ok but like a previous poster said, it doesnt really get the New York vibe going enough. -

Decidedly pedestrian. But photoreal my bollocks: I doubt they'd pay an artist to meticulously reproduce a photographic image BY HAND just to meld it with the blatantly digitized Spidey-half on the left. Not only would that be artistically inconsistent, it wouldn't be cost-effective. I think that Tobey looks fake because the picture has been digitized and given a serious going-over. The earlier posters with SACRIFICE, DESTINY and CHOICE across the top probably employed the exact same techniques as this one, creating an *un*realistic and romanticized movie-world. That poster with Spider-man and Mary Jane whipping through the air is the shit!

That Amsel poster art of Harrison Ford front and center cracking his whip with the supporting characters drawn in/framing him, all done in that photorealistic art style...THAT was a fucking great movie poster to get a jones over. This is by far the weakest of the SPIDEY 2 posters (the one of him looking over the city is a billion times better.) I'm still looking forward to the movie, but Quint is on drugs to get excited about this particular one. Truly "great" movie posters is becoming a lost art (no pun intended) giving way more and more to really bad photoshop amalgamations that just glue elements together with no sense of style or composition...

This gotta be the lamest of the posters yet. Even a totally black poster with just the date would have been better. BLEH!

i think the whole split face image lacks punch, and just ends up lookin cheesy, like a crap computer game or something. and i don't care if it is some homage to ditko or whoever; maybe it was good 40 yrs ago-now it just stalls. in a cinema a few days ago I saw this 15ft prism display with a poster on each side, each with a different theme: his destiny, his desire/weakness etc. and had EXCELLENT shots of himself accompanying each side. THAT was bloody cool.

...it does look extremely amateurish - the lighting is wrong, the supposed "morphing" section in the middle begins too early... *and* the whole concept is a rather pathetic ripoff of the recently published Star Wars Ep. III concept art - much as I can't stand Hayjerk Cuntensen, it does seem petty.

You said: "I've seen that name around the web in many places, and thought it APROPOS (look it up) to use here"...Don't you just love it when dumb fucks use a word thinking that they're smart, when really they've used it out of context, proving that they don't even know what it means. The word you want is appropriate, genius.
-
Don't you love when dumb fucks try to call out other people as being wrong when in fact they are the ones who are idiots? Apropos as an adjective means "opportune", as in I felt my post was post was an opportune time (apropos) to use that title. We don't need to discuss the uses of apropos as an adverb or preposition though, because those wouldn't apply here. Jackass.

Thanks man, nice to hear that someone agrees with me. Pretty much everyone else I've spoken to about the posters prefers the first one with the reflection of Doc Ock in Spidey's eye, which, although undoubtably cool, doesn't quite capture the essence of Peter Parker/Spider-man for me. This poster, as I said previously, is nice and I can see what they were trying to do but I don't think they pulled it off quite right. Still it's a minor complaint about what, in my opinion, has been a good poster campaign. I can't wait to see this film, I've been a HUGE Spidey fan ever since I first picked up the comics and I love the first film despite some occasionally ropey CGI (which, let's face it, is hardly a huge flaw as in these kind of films you should be willing to suspend disbelief). I managed to get over my initial disgust at the idea of organic webshooters and I even don't mind the Green Goblin's costume that much as I felt it made sense in terms of the story (having it as a flight suit) and besides how stupid would the original costume have looked on screen, people would have died laughing. Still Doc Ock looks like a huge improvement. I'm just jealous of you Yanks who get to see it June 30th, being a Brit I've got to wait until the 15th of July. It's just not fair...

I never see Peter Parker or Spider Man when I see this Tobey MacGuire of ours.
I see Tobey Macguire, and that is good for him because if a fresh, new talent was playing Spidey, he would probably get CornHoled into being remembered for that role FOREVER.
Yet, it is hard for the Audience to not see the dude who suprisingly got to fuck Charlize Theron in 'The Cider House Rules' whenever we see him.
Ah, well, either way someone wins! -
Does anyone know have info about the spiderman2 premiere tomorrow Tuesday June 22, besides that it's in LA??? I wanna go. I went to the first premiere and it was soo fun.
-
1. It's not the final theatrical poster, just part of the promotional stuff. The others had names like Choice, Sacrifice, Destiny. The actual poster will have bits of Mary Jane (yum), Dr. Ock , etc. plus those cumbersome credits at the bottom. 2. It's a homage, not a rip-off of Ditko's image. If you are going to make a movie of a comic, you better use elements from the comic, d'uh. You could say the movie itself is a rip-off of the comic. 3. It is more likely to be photoshop than airbrush (although you can 'airbrush' in PS but I doubt they used that tool for this effect). On the other hand, it does look like shoddy PS work, but you have to wait for the actual poster to truly comment.
-
WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE WHINING ABOUT? Sheesh. Ok, yeah it's not the best poster ever, or original. It's just a good idea that was well done. Personally, I'm a huge Maguire fan, so this poster is now my wallpaper. And this is far better than most of the shit that winds up on movie walls nowadays. and way better than those "Choice", "Sacrifice",
"Masturbation" posters that came out before this. And The_Ram said that Ebert's opinion was going to bring this movie down. I have a word to say about Ebert, that's one word, and one word only: Senile. The only thing that's making me nervous about this movie is all the tons of positive energy that's feeding it. I feel like it's hyped up too much. I feel like I felt going in to Phantom Menace and The Hulk. -
where Spiderman takes his mask off and says...."Crazy Fuckin White People!" If not, then I am confused and constipated.

That poster is dull and uninspired compared to the Doc Ock teaser. Actually, Molina as Octavious is the reason I'm so pumped about this film. Sometimes all a movie needs is a truly awsome and interesting villian...

Pretty much every other poster for Spiderman 2 to hit thus far has been better. It's too photo-realistic a painting. Either make it a Drew Struzan type piece or make it a photograph. Pick one, please.

When I clicked on the link to the pic, I expected something good. It's not original, it's been done before.
I have mild interest in Spiderman 2, but not so much that I'm going to rush to the theater to see it. It will be okay, and I'm sure the effects will be even better than the first one, but really I'll watch it once and probably forget about it. Kirsten Dunst is somewhat homely and very average, and Tobey McGuire (while a good choice for Peter Parker) is only an actor capable of a certain level, and little past that. Alfred Molina will probably steal the scenes he's in. Hopefully the third installment will have Venom. That might actually interest me more.
