About that MTV BLADE 3 clip...

Published at:  Jun 16, 2004 5:29:56 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some words from the inner circle of BLADE: TRINITY on that first bit of footage from the film that hit MTV during the Movie Awards. Apparently the clip was severely edited at the last minute at the demand of MTV. Missing are "vampire ashings" and the result was something "kinda close" to what director David Goyer and his team are doing, but with the guts taken out.

Personally, I'm glad to hear it. I liked a lot of what I saw in that clip, but had some misgivings. Fingers crossed that we get another kick-ass addition to the BLADE saga!!!

I dig Blade, think he's cool, but I dream of and pray for an amalgam comics movie. Partially because I live on amphetimines and work in a school.

We'll let it slide. All is forgiven. But the NEXT time you air the first look at any of your films on a network as shitty as MTV. . . we won't be so forgiving.

    Visual Flair

    by alfiemoon

I liked what I saw on the MTV clip, but it definitely lacked something... It wasn't as comic-book violenty as the first two - which may be down to the editing - but it also needs some kind of visual identity of its own, akin to what Norrington and Del Toro's did with Blade and Blade II respectively. Also, here's hoping the violence quota is as high as the first two, guaranteeing it an (18) rating in sunny Britain. And if Dracula's making an appearance too, I'm there...

What are you gonna tell us next? That the world isn't actually flat? Shit, it was on MTV, of course it wouldn't have it's real violence, and that hammy editing was obvious sign of slapping shots together. Anyone who thought otherwise doesn't know shit about films.

    by coolhive

I hated Blade 2. I hope this third one will take it back to where it was in the first movie; a kick-ass action movie with good FX.
The FX in #2 LOOKED like #2. (shit, that is) It was almost as bad as the Spiderman CGI crapfest.

It was obviously edited more obvious than Mr Obvious Editing, the Obvious Editing expert from The Obvious Editing Film School, ObviousEditingville, California.

Although some summer blockbusters have been released with editing that bad, so maybe that's why some people (morons) thought it was the final footage???

    by salamimansam

Thie scen on MTV was SEVERLY editied. The dialog was there, but the scene was was very abreviated. I can tell you the vampire deaths or 'ashings' as the linog is, i guess, were NOTHING compared to what happens later in the film, so you didn't miss much. EXCEPT: The oh-so-luscious Mr. Biel (who by the way, has a SHOWER SCENE in the movie...titte free of course) has some arrow that follows baddies around corners, then can drill through doors....it chases one vamp who hide behind a door, butit drills through the door, into him....pretty cool little scene not in the MTV thing. Anyhow, you may commence calling this a 'plant'....even though it isn't.

Speaking of new and modified trailers, I just found a new version of the Casshern trailer that they're using to attract a buyer in the US. It's basically the same as the old version but the music is significantly better: http://casshernfan.tripod.com/cashhernustrailer.wmv

    by iamnicksaicnsn

and good dialogue, dumbass. If I wanted to see a shitty vampire movie I could watch Dracula 2000 or whatever it was called. Blade was badass but Blade 2 sucked ass. I literally threw my shit at the screen and it was sucked in and the cast and Del Toro took turns sucking on it. (as for Del Toro, Hellboy was pretty cool, but not perfect, and I felt there was a lot more they could do with it, and it was a little all over the place)

    by acappellaman

I thought it was a good follow-up to Blade 1. The effects were cool, fights were cool, and there were some cool characters in it. I thought it was right up there with the first one. Some of you people are either drunk or get off on hearing yourselves complain & moan, thinking you're so much better than everybody else. Weird people.

what clarequilty said -- or guillermo, marv, gene & tom

    by duanejones

give your so very tired geek criteria (i was going to type "aesthetics," and very quickly thought better of it...) of what makes a good film the rest they're crying out for. honestly, i'm surprised you could tell the difference between the two films, if all you can complain about is relative merits of the cgi in each. although _blade ii_ sounds like it was scripted by someone for whom english is a second language...oh, yeah, it was! come on -- guillermo del toro is maybe the finest fantasy/sci-fi director alive -- who's better? the storyline was far superior to _i_ (although the opening to _i_, much like the opening scene in the first _x-men_, promised a level of sophisticated tension neither film capitalized upon) and the goofy back-and-forth between characters ("you're one cunt hair from hillbilly heaven"...an instant classic! i say it to your moms every time she..uh...well, i digress...) AND kris kristofferson actually living up to his crotchety potential (alot more than, say, _a soldier's daughter never cries_...) equals camp brilliance the first film never thought of exploring. not like i care, you understand, which leads to the those other three names: viz. writer marv wolfman, penciller gene colan and inker/colorist tom palmer, whose collective work on the source for blade, marvel's _tomb of dracula_, is surely the very best thing each of these talents EVER did...and marvel has FINALLY got around to reprinting it! i STILL want to know more about the toei animated version of _tod_, ca. 1980, i read about around that time but never saw, nor heard anything more about -- does anyone else have any information on it? _tod_ #50 with the silver surfer might be my fave surfer story and the gleam tom palmer's inks put on ANYTHING...MMMM, mm mm mm. if you never read these, forget cgi already and marvel (pun intended) at what uncompromising storylines, backed with genius-level pencils/inks/colors can still achieve...

Otherwise, I would have never been really certain if it was edited for televison.... and left wondering about it until I saw the movie.

    Blade 1 & 2... the CGI...

    by nexus-6

I'm not going to ague the merits of the two Blade movies, cause I've already done that in another talkback(for the record though I like them equally, for different reasons). Anyone who says the CGI in Blade 2 is terrible compared to the first though is very wrong. As bad as the CGI stuntmen looked(and they did look bad, i agree. too plastic, crazy angles, etc), they still looked much better than any of the effects in Blade's last act, particularly the blood god stuff, where it looks like the production totally ran out of money. I like both movies, but that reaper CGI mixed with puppets, the ashings, etc are much better(technically) than the first movie. I still do prefer the look of the ashings in the first movie though, even though they aren't as well done as the ones in 2.

i watch the mtv channels but really Mtv is a plastic weak and corrupt world that is brainwashing on many different levels and is burning out the artistic/underground level out of the youth and is out of touch and is only any good when chris rock turns up every 2 years to coarse up those plastic stage school idiots and make a few people cringe because they know he is right.Mtv only gives lip service to artists who are trying not to get corrupted by genre politics and corprate compromises but feel they have to participate in these tinny events/programmes to keep onside because they dont want to be fly by nights even though mtv just want to phase out their music/art.they are so tin that they waiting for every rapper to be white and axel roses children to grow up and make everyone believe that they pioneered music.Blade is enjoyable enough and i'd rather watch that for an hour and half than many other options.....

    by survive

Its good to hear that most people were disappointed by they 2nd blade. For me as soon as Wesley opened his mouth he seemed to be talking to fast in the shitty narration. Blade 1 was simple but effective. It successfully created a sub culture of vampires. Why this was successful was that it made you want to be a part of this click. Immortality, they had the best clothes, went to the best parties, listened to the best music and they were hanging with Traci Lords. It was a slick sexy movie. The second ambitiously changed pace. 10/10 for effort but the blood and the horror antic made the movie loose its "cool" sensibility. Plus Blade to wasted Donnie Yen. I feel that he has mad 2 of the greatest fight scenes ever, both with Jet Li in Once Upon a time in China 2 and Hero, plus Iron Monkey runs tings. I want Blade 3 to hark back to the first and after reading Goyers interview months ago I have faith. But after seeing ONG Bak it has some serious competition

I will be watching Blade 3 in the same spirit as I watched the others - stoned off my box, and with absolutely no expectations of seeing anything other than Wesley Snipes killing some fuckin' vampires. Then, while you guys are writing 15-page reports on precisely why, and it in what ways, Blade 3 sucked donkey balls, I'll leave the theatre and go about my merry day having seen a kinda cool popcorn action flick that will have no lasting impact on my life.

That was one of the most pathetic things I've ever read in my entire existence. You dedicated like 10,000,000 words to why the new Harry Potter movie sucks? Good god man, get laid or something...or at least do us all a favor and masturbate to some gay porn...if that's your thing. Just chill. Anyone that puts more than 10 words of thought into a Blade or Harry Potter movie deserves to have their balls dragged across broken glass.

Why do all movies come in trilogy's now?

    by sumbich73

I didn't need Blade 2, nor do I need Blade 3. The first one was standard popcorn fare, and didn't require a sequel. The second one was goofy with the "Reapers" or what ever the hell those things were called. It seems any sci-fi/fantasy/super hero movie comes in three parts now.

    What's next, a Blade prequel?

    by maniack

When I saw the clip for the first time, it didn't bother me. You know why? Because it's so obviously edited for content they shouldn't HAVE to release a statement saying so. Please. After the first two movies, you think they would shoot an arrow at a vampire and not show what happens? That's what happened in the trailer, but is not what happens in the movie, and I didn't need someone connected to the movie to come out and tell me that, either.
