Sit close, kids. Harryhausen wants to talk to you!

Published at:  Jun 16, 2004 3:56:32 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a treat for you cinephiles out there! Below is a link that will take you to NPR's website with 6 minutes of audio from an interview with the man behind some of the most memorible creatures in cinema history. As far as I'm concerned, Harryhausen is a national treasure (though he lives in London, so I guess that'd make him a Global Treasure) and if you haven't gotten a look at his book RAY HARRYHAUSEN: AN ANIMATED LIFE, then go thee hence to the nearest book store or your favorite internet book store and take a gander. It's a must own for any self-respecting geek! Anyway, on with the man himself! Enjoy it, folks! I know you will!

Harry:

Thought your readers might be interested in this audio interview with
Ray Harryhausen - about 6 minutes - not long, but not a bad overview
of the man. From NPR Sunday... If you post this you can call me "Ice
Cream Soldier"

you would not have SW/LOTR or JAWS

Without this man. His spiritual partner Ray Bradbury is also one of the greatest imaginations the world has known. St Harryhausen's day must dawn!

I think the dvd to "First Men in The Moon" has "The Harryhausen Chronicles" as a special feature. It shows some of Ray's earliest work. It's cool to see how even the early primitive stuff has so much atmosphere ( the "brontosaurus" emerging from the ocean onto a misty island is great). It also talks about the skeletons from "Jason and The Argonauts" and others. If you haven't seen it, check it out. You'll like it.
