Gorgeous Pics of Oliver Stone's ALEXANDER flick!

Published at:  May 24, 2004 4:26:24 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... I can't wait to see Oliver Stone's ALEXANDER flick... The production design is great, but I just can't wait to see the native american visions that Alexander had that drove him to conquer the known world! And will there be animated sections? I hope so! Here ya go...

Hi Harry!

Just call me The Fly. Surfing through the internet I found these posted stills from a French magazine article concerning Oliver Stone's upcoming Alexander The Great project which from all accounts should be an amazing film, a turn from Stone's usual but brilliant ventures into the 60's, now he's taking on history from antiquity. The stills feature the Hanging Gardens set from when Alexander enters Babylon and one particularly funny shot of Colin Farrell (who plays The Great) chilling on a large Babylonian bed, reading his script, I'm assuming, while also taking advantage for a smoke. I found the shots at This Place which is a countdown site for the film. The site has more stills including some of Angelina Jolie as Alexander's loco mommy, Olympias. Well, I don't know if you'll post this, but enjoy!

This is tacky and dull. What happened, Ollie? Hopefully, these are the cut scenes or rejected interior decorations.

c'mon, man! Those stills are HOMO-EROTIC to the extreme. I'm not being a homophobe here but his blonde hair is killing me! I can take Brad Pitt prancing around in his pretty boy get-up but this Alexander crap is too much.

The last shot looks like temple of doom. Maybe Stone was using the film budget to score more hashish and we're left with cheezy looking trinkets?

Don't look like no Greek to me

    by henry earl

Hello again my friends, dis here is James Brown back at you. I opened these stories very excited to see "gorgeous" pictures of the very hot Angelina Jolie, damn that woman smokes my jerky! But instead the fat red one gives us shots of this here blondie blond sitting on a couch in a skirt. Whaaaa?! I don't see where the good view is, I turned away in disgust, and I have seen alot of fucking nasty ass stuff. I mean, it weren't horrid or nuthin' but it was just fancy nancy-boy stuff with lots o' columns n' shit. Now I know a Greek myself, his name is Nicholas Kratos, we all just call him Nick the Fuck, or his profesional name is Nick the Fuckin' Greek. But mostly I just call him shithead cause that goddamn greek piece of shit makes me so angry when he stole my box and used it for his toilet, that was damn good box you Goat Groper! So anyway, how come in this movie all the Greeks look like Whitey! That aint right, it was just like in that movie about Troy, I think it was called "Battletron Sand Bomblaster" or some shit like that, anyway they were all white in that thing also, this don't make no sense. Hey RedHead, you work with the Hollywood ass pumpers, tell I aint neva seen no greek with goldilocks hair, those boys are fruitcakes. That is all!

GUARANTEED to be better than than Troy

    by metatron

Alexander could have a fuckin' mohawk for all I care - as long as the acting, script and direction is solid, that's ALL that matters.

These sets look incredible (as someone else mentioned), the historical accuracy is unmatched by any film I have yet seen involving this era.

Either way, I don't see how this film could possibly be as HORRIBLE as that piece of shit, Troy - mullets or not.

IN HOLLYWOOD! That was the single greatest summary I have seen in months. THAT is the kind of line that (sadly) gets movies made in Hollywood. YOU just might be a pitch master. I bet somebody said, "It's Caligula meets Tombraider" in a meeting somewhere along the line and if they didn't, that explains why it took so damn long to get this movie made. Brilliant!

    by yojimbobo!

Forgive me for my historical ignorance, but wasn't Alexander gay or bisexual? Of course, back then, those sporting power togas were all pretty much sexual hedonists. However, if my ignorance is correct, is Stone going to emphasize this or will it be a matter of "don't ask, don't tell???" A gay guy once told me Alexander was, but then again, he also told me Carey Grant was too! Whaazzat! Carey Grant really was gay???!! B-Bu-but what about all that hot trim??!!! Next thing you know, you guys will be telling me Randolph Scott was a-flamin'!!!!

    Yes, Alexander was bisexual...

    by metatron

Both Stone and Farrell have confirmed that Alexander will have homoerotic relationships in the film (specifically with Hephaestion - his life's greatest love, and Bagoas - his Persian Eunuch). However, they also said the movie will not focus on this aspect of Alexander's life.

The sets won't look as artificial as they do in those stills. The colour scheme just seems off there, which is a shame. And, if I remember my ancient history right, Alexander the Great was bisexual (he had harems of men AND women) but then, apparently everyone was back then. It wasn't thought of as being wrong at all. And didn't the Spartans encourage homosexuality in young men as part of their war training or something?

    Slight Correction, Monkey Butler

    by daughter of time

Alexander WAS bisexual, but was also known for his relative abstinence in an age when conquerors mostly took what they wanted from both sexes. Lifelong-love Hephaestion, slave boy Bagoas, a (possibly) political marriage with Roxanne.... Not a long list. He certainly didn't have "harems" of either sex. Apparently, he had his mind on other things - like conquering the world. And yes, he was a natural blond. (Unfortunately, Farrell looks like a very UN-natural blond.)

    People always assume...

    by nicko6

Ok don't even get me started with the history lesson. I have read many books on Alexander the Great and I did one of my major thesis as a history minor on Alexander the Great. So, was Alexander bisexual..the truth is we do not know. We are only speculating he was. However, several philosophers from Greece however were bisexual and to the comment about the Spartans encouraging homosexuality...please tell me the book you read that at because I sure as hell never heard of that from the historians in Sparta even when I visited Sparta 3 times. Now, I know everyone is going to start debating Alexander's sexual preference and to be honest with you I don't give 2 farts in the wind whether Alexander was or was not bisexual because you can debate all you want but in Greece just because you love your best friend it does not mean you have to "love" your best friend. I am hoping that they portray the battles accurately because unlike anything else the Persian armies outnumbered Alexander's armies but it was Alexander's generalship and strategies used in battle that saved the day and there were a lot of those battles. Alexander was one of the few generals that ever fought in the front line with his soldiers. This nearly killed him at one battle. Now if you want a history lesson pick up a book and start reading cause I am not going to start debating back and forth with people who have done a google search with regard to Alexander.

Does anyone know what the actual plot of this is going to be?

    by excaliburffolkes

I am assuming the movie is going to primarily follow Alexander during the Persian Wars and the conquest of the Middle East and western India, but how are they going to string it all together in a continous compelling plot? There is just so much material to cover.
