Hubba What'' BUFFY Toon Back On Track''

I am – Hercules!!

This can’t be right! But that’s what I said when I heard UPN was thinking about poaching “Buffy” from the WB!

It is difficult to imagine that “Peach Buzz” got it wrong!

Hi Herc,

I've never submitted before so I hope I do this right. Love the site. Not sure if this is old news or not.....

In the Thurs. May 20th edition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in the "Peach Buzz" section where they talk about local celebrities, they interviewed Alyson Hannigan's (she's originally from Atlanta) mother Emile Posner, about an accident that happened in the audience during her performance of "When Harry Met Sally"

As a side note at the end it reads:

'Hannigan's many "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fans, take note: According to Posner, who recently visited her daughterin London, the actress is reprising her role of Willow. While Posner was in town, Hannigan was recording some voice work for an upcoming "Buffy" animated series.'

thanks Herc, If you use this call me "Vaderboy"

The Buffy Animated Series makes me feel many things...

    by Monkey Butler

OK, so now Buffy can be hot again (although she'll only be a cartoon, which makes that a moot point) but what's the target audience of this supposed to be? If it's turned into a kids show, then it'll end up being lame; if it's the same audience that watched the regular show, then what's the point of making it at all?

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

Don't remember where I read this but it was in one of the trades. There isn't a market or audience for this as a kids show (animated series for Saturday mornings and afternoon syndication aren't doing well these days). Cartoon Network would make the most sense, airing it alongside the Justice League and Teen Titans.

this will be good for a bunch of reasons.

    by superfobby

#1: we get to see some of those monks' built-in memories of dawn being attacked and rescued, at the cute-as-a-button (ok, annoying) age of 11 or 12. #2: angel drama! #3: big demons and special effects the live show couldn't afford. #4: since it will presumably be set forever and ever during that one year of high school, in true animated fashion, we don't have to worry about main characters getting into horrible fights with each other or getting significant others who die! #5: that's all i got.

With the exception of Buffy, that artist has gotten the cast DOWN! Xander, Cordy, Giles, etc. are very true to their real life counterparts. ------ The only problem I can forsee with this series, if it does indeed go to Cartoon Network (where it SHOULD be), is that some of the actors and actresses (*cough*SMG*cough*) won't be able to do the voicework. It'll throw me off a bit, but I figure I can deal with it after a few eps.

    Voice actress for Buffy...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

They not only have the choice of the voice actress who played Buffy in the video games, there's also the voice actress from the little known (but pretty good) WB animated series "The Zeta Project". The female character in that, a teen girl, sounded an awful lot like Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy mode.

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

I'm guessing they will set this sometime around the second season before Buffy and Angel had sex. That means that neither Oz nor Faith might be around. :-( However, maybe there will be more of Harmony, Spike, Dru and maybe even Jenny Calendar!

If I had to bet ...

    by jgsugden

I'd bet that David and Sarah will pass, but everyone else will come on board. It's stupid to pass up on animated work unless you're trying to distance yourself from a character. Easy, quick and you can slip it in on the side when you've got another full time gig. Heck, in many cases, you can do it in any major city (or even a nice home studio), so geography doesn't even play that much of a factor. If they don't progess the timeline as the series develops, I bet they'll go with a season 1 setting with Dawn thrown in. That'd be Buffy, Giles, Xander, Willow, Joyce, Angel, Cordy, Harmony and a slight chance of Darla, Oz, Jenny, Jonathon, Warren, Amy, the annointed, Andrew (he was at the school, we just never saw him during the live show), Moony (or Snyder), papa Summers and all the minor characters from seasons 1-3 that frequented the school. We might even get Spike and Drusilla in Angel flashbacks. Or, perhaps they'll go with a 'storytelling' type situation where the cartoons are being revealed as stories told to new slayers in the present (perhaps by Giles), so they could jump around in time between seasons, into the distant past and into the future of Buffy after the series ended.

That Buffy cartoon will never see the light of day

    by Tal111

It's been in the works for years and now that Film Roman is involved that cinches it. After and beyond Simpsons nothing they do ever gets produced. Don't believe? Where's Blue Brothers, Doomsday and a host of other shows on a list too long to mention. And get ready to add the new Spawn to the group also. They are a black hole for shows.

    The designs are pretty cool

    by Craiggers

I had my doubts, but the designs are perfect. Angel especially looks badass. I'm sure that there is plenty of untapped story potential that couldn't be done on the live action show for financial reasons. Now that there are no Buffiverse shows on television, I'll take what I can get. At the very least, I'll give the show a shot. It could be fun; like the Clerks animated series (why hasn't comedy central or cartoon network jumped all over that by the way?).

A Buffy cartoon that looks like that could be super cool

    by Fatty McJones

And, since it's a cartoon, they could keep them in high school forever. Buffy suffered from what so many other high school based shows suffered from. The quality declined after they left high school. I'm not sure I like the fact that want to include Dawn, though.
