Joss Whedon On An ANGEL Cliffhanger:

Published at:  May 17, 2004 4:07:50 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

In a piece published the Sunday before Buffy Summers died the second time (in the season-five finale of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), series mastermind Joss Whedon told The Los Angeles Times that he did not believe in cliffhangers.

We recall that several talkbackers, even after “Buffy” 5.22 aired, concluded that 5.22 was not a cliffhanger. Buffy died! No cliff involved!

And one could argue those talkbackers had a point.

Bearing all this in mind, here’s what young supergenius Whedon shares in this week’s Entertainment Weekly:

EW: Any chance “Angel” will end in a cliff-hanger?

JOSS WHEDON: I wouldn’t do that. That’s a crappy thing to do.

He also mentions he'd be up for a series of TV movies, each perhaps set in a different corner of the Buffiverse. One can only hope, as one hears Alyson Hannigan's sitcom pilot didn't make NBC's autumn slate.

NBC announces its autumn slate later today.

The “Angel” series finale airs 9 p.m. Wednesday. The WB.

    First (hopefully) and he's right

It's a stunningly fitting finale to the last great genre show on TV.

The Buffyverse for the time being will be missed.

    and yet, it will

Sorry, but what else can you call it? Everything isn't wrapped in a neat little bow at the end of AtS 5.22. The door was left open for a S6 that will never happen. Cliff. Hanger. L8r

Joss Whedon doesn't believe in cliffhangers? Well, lets see...

    by my ass smells

SEASON 1- Last shot was of DARLA in a cage and we learn Wolfram & Hart brought her back from the dead. SEASON 2- Last shot is of Willow waiting for the Anger Avengers to tell them about Buffy's death. SEASON 3- Last shots of Cordelia in the air and Angel underwater. SEASON 4- Angel and crew move to WolfRam & Hart. And these arent fucking CLIFFHANGERS????

    Misleading??

    by sourbomb

Don't want to sound hopelessly optimistic here, but is anyone else noticing strange wording in the ads for the finale? "The season finale of Angel," followed later in the ad by the "The WB Series finale." Why not just say the series finale of Angel?

    this sucks...

I'm so fxxxin pissed ANGEL is ending. I mean bloddy hell...Tru Calling gets renewed...but ANGEL...a show w/ better rating, better plot, mostly better actors...and for some reason thr WB lost their freakin marbles and let it go? I mean, Im glad Eliza has a running show...she's sweet to the screen...but I'd much prefer 1 more SOLID episode of ANGEL then seeing Eliza's bouncing chest as she runs to where ever she is going this episode. I mean thats nice and all...but id prefer ANGEL either way. Anywayz...lookin forward to the ANGEl finale on Wed nite...later days

    Cliffhanger as in.....

    by obiwayne

the final episode hinting at more to come instead of resolving things. Buffy saved the world and all the girls became slayers so therefore her journey was over. It would have been a cliffhanger if the last shot of Buffy was of the Master or some other big bad from the past sitting somewhere, acting sinister and laughing.
