Angel 5.19 FAQ

What’s it called?

“Time Bomb.”

Who’s responsible?

Teleplay is credited to Ben Edlund (“Life of the Party,” “Smile Time”).

What does TV Guide say?

“After her unstable mystical powers allow her to jump time dimensions, Illyria discovers the gang's plot to kill her, so Angel must go back in time to keep her from murdering his friends first. Elsewhere, Gunn returns from his self-imposed exile and tries to get back into the swing of things at Wolfram & Hart. His first case involves overseeing a demonic adoption in which the surrogate mother (Jaime Bergman) may not have been given full disclosure.”

Angel can jump back through time now? Why doesn’t he go back and save Fred from Illyria? Why doesn’t he go back and prevent Darla from turning him into a vampire?

Angel can’t control time, he just gets caught in Illyria’s temporal wake. Illyria even says “You were swept up in my wake,” as if she were a giant fan of “Star Trek: First Contact” or something.

Hamilton tried to offer Gunn a bargain last week. Does Hamilton actually get to offer it this week?

He does not. Illyria rescues Gunn in the opening scene. No bargain is struck with Hamilton, or anyone else.

Gunn is trying cases again?

He revisits his office to find enormous stacks of files.

How’s Wesley Wyndam-Pryce doing with those restored memories?

Fine. He’s very focused on the blue girl.

What’s Spike up to?

He continues to test Illyria’s limits.

Krevlornswath (of the Deathwok Clan)?

He’s assigned to tail Illyria. He gets to say things like “Bluebird is in flight.”

The big news?

Illyria stakes Spike. Reduces him to dust. The mortality rate on regular characters this season? Poor! Or spectacular! Depending on your perspective!

What else is TV Guide not telling us?

Angel turns evil. Again.

What’s good?

The way Wesley scurries about his office, researching The Old Ones. The Fell demons, so relentless in their sliminess. Hamilton generally, but especially “It’s a business, boys! Not a Batcave!” in particular. The long conversation between Angel and Illyria near episode’s end. “Tell you what. Still like him better than Eve.” “We look so tiny to her.” “Yes! The patent-holder is a client.” “It’s consecrated urine.” “Oh, that’s mature.” “Do you even know how to use this thing?”

What’s not so good?

“Life of the Party” offered more urine jokes.

How does it end, spoiler-boy?

“What are you doing?” “What we’re supposed to,” answers Angel. “Serve our clients.”

Herc’s rating for “Angel” 5.19?

    Random Thoughts...

    by vnhaln1

Isn't the pregnant woman Angel's wife IRL? Does that mean that David's wife is pregnant? Also in Wes's conversation with Hamilton he lets slip that WR&H want Fred gone. Does that mean they think she will ruin whatever evil plan they have in the works? And if that is true then Angel & Crew nerfing her powers at episodes end is surely a mistake.

Also I think it is sad to make next week's episode about Buffy and just show fleeting glimpses of the back of her head. Better to not have her in any episode then to do that.

    by havokjd

fucking Smallville was GREAT! Way to redeem themselves from some of the other stinker episodes this season. Back to Angel....I don't know how they can tie this all up adequately. Now matter how good the next few episodes, when it ends it will probably all feel so hollow due to the rushed finish. And despite the great episodes this year, I still miss Team Angel breaking bad and kicking some ass. Especially Angel...he just seems so de-fanged this year. Here's to hoping, shit praying, for some TV movies!

    by _fate_

To start off with I have LOVED these episodes of Angel. They are getting to be so good. But if this is, god forbid, the last season then where is the closure?!? These episodes don't seem to me to have a sense of an approaching end. The final Buffy episodes always had a feeling of an impending end, not only the series finale but the season ones as well. I realize this show is not Buffy but I havn't felt the feeling of an ending coming up. Anyway thats my piece.

So in conclusion GO SAVING ANGEL!!!! Resurect it for us PLEASE!!!

Yeah I forgot the Hamiltion visit to Wes stuff....

    by havokjd

WTF....now that little tidbit of info that Hamilton shared was intriguing. But I find it curious that Wes wouldn't mention that to Angel and the rest of them team right away. Especially since this ep revolved around the "supposed" motivation of the rest of the team wanting to get rid of her, and Wes obviously (as we find out at the end) NOT wanting to. You would think he would have used that info from Hamilton as a point in his save the Bluebird campaign. Bluebird also hinted at her familiarity with "The Wolf, The Ram, and The Hart." This plot point intrigues me the most and I hope they satisfactorily develop it and don't leave it hanging like a Chris Claremont plot thread.

    Havok....out!

I saw Mercedes McNab this past weekend at a convention and she said none of the cast has heard about doing a movie, and they think it is a hoax that the WB is pulling on the fans to placate them and to get them to keep watching the WB next season.

So if the movie was really going to happen in Sept you think they would be in contract negociations with the actors about it at this time and they would have heard something. If they were going to be airing in Sept they would have to be filming it in June or July, which means contracts would have to be done now at the latest, since that

    by the continental

Havok, Illyria mentioned that the Wolf, Ram, and Hart were just lesser beings during her reign over the world in the first or second episode she appeared in. I think she said they stuck to the shadows and schemed or some such. Basically implied that they bided their time and are in their current state of power due to underhanded tactics.

When Angel was jumping back and forth through time, did he get switched with future-Angel (the Angel who has been running Wolfram & Hart for years and is corrupt and evil)? Is that maybe why Angel was evil at the end?? Illyria did speak of an evil Angel.*****I don't know yet if I liked this episode or not. It was choppy, and the time-jumps confused me.*****I like that they drained Illyria of some of her power, if this is leading up to her becoming part of the Fang Gang, like Wesley suggested. At least, I HOPE that's where they're going with this. I don't want Illyria/Fred to be the season Big Bad, because that's been done twice before. And I don't want her turning back into Fred at the end.*****Anyone else think that Wolfram & Hart had something to do with bringing Illyria forth? After all, none of this would have happened had the Partners not taken away Gunn's smarts.

    by prof. pop-cult

And just ONE movie. All the stuff we've been reading about a series of TV movies on the WB are rumors, and simply not true. As some others have pointed out, it doesn't make sense that the WB would produce 6 telefilms. For one example, where in their line-up would they have the room to air these? TNT is rumored to be interested in funding production of a follow-up telefilm to air on its network. The Angel repeats have been doing well for that network. When you think about, TNT seems like the best and most realistic possibility. We should write in our support to TNT.

    by ozzjenkin

As I watched tonight I snuck a look at what Herc rated the show early in my viewing time. I was already under the impression that the episode would be awesome once Illyria burst on the scene. Anyway I think that the apocalypse as Wolf- Ram-and-Hart know it. Illyria transcends both Angel and the parteners. When Angel and Spike are there together as the world ends and die it still means that both vampires with souls had a part to play in the end of the world. I really think it is over and the next three will be devoted to sewing up what Angel does next and hopefully lead into a spin-off with Whedon favories Marsters and Acker.

HERC think about rerating this. It stands up extremely well to the best dramatic episodes in the Whediverse.

Something won't happen until ep 21. Next week's episode is a comedy romp in itally written by "The Drew" and Stephen S. DeKNight. THey go to "save" buffy from the immortal, but it turns out she's happy, and without actually ever seeing her (they get their info through Andrew) they realize they need to get over it and move on...leading up to the last two eps where we think Angel's turning evil, but well, I'm not sure again what the spoiler rules are here...but remember in Buffy how all the demon characters died and the humans were left standing? by big jim

This show just keeps getting better with each episode. Way better than last season (and I liked last season). The way the show has been progressing, next season would have been awsome! It's a shame the network would not have had more respect for this show and allow them an entire season to wrap up. Or even half a season. TV movies, the occasional two-hour episode? I don't hold out much hope. WB may just be trying to placate viewers, as SpeakerWiggin said. It sounds like "we can still be friends". Dumped is dumped, no matter how sweetly it is said.

    by jgsugden

#1: At least 1 telefilm seems likely. If it works out well, there will be interest in a second, but don't think for a second that they'll make plans for a second (or 6th) telefilm until the first one airs.

#2: They probably botched the Lorne thing, but if it helps you out to explain it away - If I'm a lover, not a fighter, and someone wastes the three toughest guys I know in 1.5 seconds (and does significant damage to me in the process), I'm playing dead. Or, maybe I'm knocked unconcious.

#3: Go back and watch the last few moments, when Ilyria speaks to Angel during the time leaping, when Angel talks about Ilyria after she has had her powers diminished and when Angel walks into the office. Put them together. Angel is acting bad, not being bad.

For example, why the Senior Partners never wanted to kill Angel. Why Lindsey hate Angel (maybe Lindsey knows who Angel is). Notice also that throughout this season we've been seeing the "dark side" of the other members of the Team: Wes, Lorne (when he "hulked out"), Lawyer Gun, and Fred becoming Illyria. Maybe what happens is that somehow Angel becomes Angelus again, and it is Angelus in the future who is the head Senior Partner. I don't see Wes as one of the Partners -- maybe he went insane (over his unrequited love for Fred and Illyria; and inability to sort out the two sets of memories he has) and is locked up in an asylum. Gunn is probably dead in this future. Lorne probably walked away from Wolfram & Hart. Ditto Spike. But Harmony and Illyria are still around. Future Angelus has been keeping the timeline going so that Angel will turn into him.

    by buckna

They didn't give us enough info to jump to any conclusions about why Angel was acting like that at the end. My guess is he is playing along, afterall, if the woman signed the contract her son would live for 13 years before being sacrificed. Plenty of time to save him from the fell beasts but get on the Sr. Partners good side first. Illiria is very long winded, glad they admitted it in the show. Seeing everyone killed so quickly was a trip unto itself, wish Gunn had been in there too! And yes, that was David B.'s real life wife playing the pregnant woman. They didn't do her up very well, as she's a former Playboy Playmate of the Year and was smoking hot on the FX series Son of the Beach. Is she pregnant again? They just had a kid a year ago or so. can't believe only 3 more left!!!

This episode was a bit of a letdown, but it doesn't matter because Angel is still the second best tv series after The Shield. Ouf course there was some fun stuff. Illyria kicked ass and whoever designed Acker's outfit and look should get a major raise, cause the person has a wicked imagination. I can't believe we are almost at the end of Angel. I hope we get an epic apocalypse showdown. Fuck you, Warner Bastards. I hope Dark Shadows will fall so hard on its face that it will loose all its teeth. Not only that, but I also hope someone throws Jordan Levin off the balcony in the Warner Bastards building.
