SPOILER ALERT !!
We all figured he’d be too busy prepping his first feature, but I guess we figured wrong.
Jeffrey Bell was going to write and direct the “Angel” finale by himself, but now Buffiverse mastermind Joss Whedon’s name has joined Bell’s on the teleplay credit.
News of Whedon’s more hands-on participation comes from the always-reliable Pandora at mythical-boards.com, which also reveals who’ll be appearing in the last four episodes:

* Harmony, the Mercedes McNab character introduced in “Buffy” 1.2.
* Hamilton, the Adam Baldwin character to be introduced Wednesday.
5.20 “The Girl In Question,” written by Steve DeKnight (“Shells”) & Drew Goddard (“1943”) and directed by “Angel” co-creator David Greenwalt (!).

Err... heheh. Anyway, good to see Joss helping out with the "finale" (I'm still hopeful we'll get an 11th hour surprise renewal ) Some nice guest stars coming up, thankfully SMG is nowhere NEAR the list. The little primadonna can go off and make more bad horror movies for the rest of her career for all I care.
-
but atleast it was able to live a good life as a series, unlike other shows... I'm interested to see Boreanaz's role in the Firefly film, he would make a great villain--
-
I was worried that last we'd see of her was as "Another Hot Girl" in Grind. Maybe the best rack to waist ratio in the Buffyverse.
-
...the lady cop who appeared frequently in the first 2 series of Angel (I've forgotten her name)? I don't recall there being a story that finished her character. It just sort of petered out.....
-
Fucking hell . if JW is penning the finale then it could end up sucking ass as bad as "Chosen" did !
-
I've seen every episode of Angel and don't recognize half those characters...
-
"'A Hole in the World,' almost certainly the finest 'Angel' tale ever produced"?
Oh, I get that. That's sarcasm, right? I really, really hope so. In fact, I will assume so, and will therefore withhold my diatribe about how much that episode SUCKED PRETTY MUCH BEYOND BELIEF and caused me to lose respect for The Whedon to a greater extent than I'd thought any single episode could. (But hey, even gods are entitled to a few off-days.)
All I ask is that you maybe flag the sarcasm better next time, so that those of us who are reading after midnight won't be forced to do a double-take. Thanks! -
I always thought Julia Lee/"Anne" would have made a good addition to the cast. And I think Anne and Gunn would have made a better, more believable couple. Ultimately, Fred felt contrivingly cute and a character Whedon created as a hetero version of Willow, a female character type he seems fixated on, quite frankly (look at Firefly, as well). I wonder in the end if even the actress who played her, Amy Acker, became tired of Fred and her Fred-ness.
-
And what's wrong with "A Whole in the World"
Twas an AWESOME Episode.
Lornes jerk reaction to Fred's song was PERFECT. -

The Styler here. Just want to clear up a few things. Firstly Anne is from Buffy. She was Chanterelle in Buffy season 2's Lie to Me and as Lily in episode 3.1 called Anne. She then crossed over to Angel in season 2. Please don't argue because I'm very, very right. Secondly, A Hole in the World rocked, Chosen was one of the best finales EVER and Joss Whedon's involvement in Not Faded Away is all good. Peace out, folks. The Whedonverse - The Styler salutes you.
-
Actually, the character of Anne was introduced in "Buffy", although she had different names at the time (Chantarelle, Lily). I also thought "A Hole in the World" was one of Angel's fine moments, not necessarily it's ultimate ep though. I'd have to put last season's finale near the top, as well as this season's "You're Welcome". And I've always loved Spike's guest shot in the first season where he's mocking Angel's heroics as he rescues a damsel in distress ("Angel-mobile, nancy-boy hairgel"). ................. BTW, anybody know anything about this sitcom starring Charisma Carpenter that UPN has apparently placed an order for?
-
PS. Could you guys stop acting like SMG owes you anything? She doesn't. Her absence from the Angel finale is annoying but not insurmountable. The fact that she's not on the DVD extras is a pain. But she's not obligated to do any of that. What she was obligated to do was to give us 7 great years of entertainment, she did that and I remain greatful. Now get over it. Don't take offense guys cos this is simply my opinion. I'm out.
-
I forgot that Chantrelle/Lilly/Anne (taken from buffy's middle name) were the same person. Now THAT'S quality character development!
-
No Sahjahn?
-
I think that's poor character development. It's not like a Whedon show to write-off a major character after 2 years, and the NEVER bring them back. I understand her character went as far as she could as a full-time player, but to not bring her back at least once? I may have missed an episode, but I do believe she's been completely forgotten!
-
She wasn't simply forgotten. I thought she decided to leave because she didn't want to be a cop anymore. Her and Angel had a talk at the end of season 2's episode "Epiphany". That was the episode with Lindsey's awesome attack on Angel with a pickup truck and a sledgehammer. Nice guy.
-
The actress who plays Kate moved on to one of the "Law & Order" shows. That's the main reason you never saw her again, she moved on out of the Whedonverse.
-
Oh well.
-
When he gets killed by Conner.
-
I liked Kate, and I thought the actress who played her (Elisabeth Rohm) made a better cop on Angel than a DA on Law & Order. However, I kinda' felt like she was shoehorned into Angel, and never fit well. If she'd stayed around maybe they could have worked it out, but oh well. It made room for Fred, which is good in my book.
-
Both JW and Elizabeth (sp?) Rohm wanted to bring Kate back for one more episode. JW had important plans for her as a character in the Angel series that had to be adapted for other charcaters (Cordelia) when Kate went to the DA's office (note - this is my hypothesis, it is not supported by any inside info). After adapting her storylines to Cordy, there was less of a reason to bring her back. I'm sure they would still have liked to do so to provide some closure for the open ended stuff that they had begun with her character, but scheduling of the shows never allowed for it. I would not find it incredibly unlikely to see her make a small appearance in a future Buffyverse story (film, spin-off, maybe even a comic).
-
And "A Hole in the World" should definitelly be considered one of the best episodes of ATS in its entire run. This season thus far being the most enjoyable from my perspective. Can't wait to see what Baldwin is going to bring to the table, finally a new Angel this wednesday its been way too long. Can't wait
-
Actress took a fulltime gig on Law and Order and Wheedon doesnt believe in recasting "major characters"...the only exception I can think of being Principal Wood's mother, the Slayer Nikki.
-
Pleas no more Baldwin parts. ... And yes I know he isn't one of the brothers. ... I'm just sick and tired of fk'in Baldwin's
-
The first half of this season sucked big time but they seemed to start writing stories that flowed and not the Monster of the week crap.
Sad to see it go though. This means more reality shows next year. Ughhh!
So why in the writings above is it written like it is for unBuffy/Angel fans telling us which episode each character was introduced. Thats stuff we can find out from an episode guide. -
Nobody seems to have noticed that annoying butmunch has somehow weedled his way into the final episode.... Call me cycnical, but it makes me VERY wary about the show finale...

Temporal Reset Button stolen from Trek ends up on Angel?
by electric_monk
From the ever reliable TVTome:
Time Bomb -When Illyria's powers become unstable and cause her to erratically jump through time, she learns that the gang intends to kill her. Upon returning to the present, Illyria plans to murder everyone before they're able to attack her. To save everyone's lives, Angel goes into the past with Illyria to alter the course of events.....So, maybe Fred does survive.
-
I agree, that shit does not bode well. On a more upbeat note. Anyone catch The Shield tonight. Mackie's wife has a nice ass....

Bringing Fred back at this point would be weak, no matter how it
by johnny smith
...and would cheapen the brilliance that was "A Hole in the World". That is all.
