Bombay Gives DEADWOOD 1.4 Four Stars!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
You say “Sopranos” doesn’t boast enough whackings for your taste? Children, you only need to stop watching those beautiful naked lesbians having sex with each other over on Showtime and stick with HBO after Tony and crew have moved on!
Oh, and you’ll have to miss (or tape or tivo) ABC’s brand new “Alias,” which has moved to 10 p.m. this week to make room for that really, really promising Nick & Jessica variety hour that airs opposite “Sopranos.”
Here’s “Dr. Bombay” with this week’s exciting “Deadwood” details:
Deadwood 1.4 FAQ

Deadwood 1.4 FAQ
What's it called?
What's it called?
“There Was A Man” Who's the man?
I don't know for sure but I think the title may refer to Wild Bill
Hickok,
and to a 1992 poem by Mac Hammond called “Once Upon a Time There was a
Man.” The
first few lines read: Once upon a time there was, there was a man/Who
lived
inside me wearing this cold armour/The kind of knight whom the ladies
could be
proud/and send with favours through unlikely forests/To fight infidels
and
other knights and ordinary dragons... What's that got to do with Wild Bill?
The central plotline this week involves Alma asking Bill to investigate
the
circumstances of her husband's tragic “fall” last week. She knows
Swearengen
was involved and needs the help of an honorable, capable man (a knight,
if you
will). Bill agrees to help her. But it's the poem's sort of past-tense,
lamenting tone that also suggests Bill to me. What do you mean, Bombay? You're not saying...
Well, I'm not. Think about what we know of Deadwood history (and what
you've
read in this space) and draw your own conclusions. I will say that this
episode, especially the final sequence, is a must-see. Why?
Beyond the big finale, it's a wonderful episode in terms of character
and
dialogue. Watching the refined Alma and the hard-scrabble Calamity Jane
bond and
become friends is a lesson in grace. The episode features a number of
such
graceful moments, in fact, sometimes between characters with whom you'd
never
associate the word. But that's the nature of great characterization. No
human
being is all good or all bad. Dr. Bombay’s rating for “Deadwood” 1.4?

Really, she should.

SPOILERS, Matey!!!!!!!
"There was a man..." is the final line in Joseph Rosa's biography of Will Bill's Life and Death in Deadwood.
Oh boy someone's gonna get capped tomorrow!!! -
I love Keith Carradine's interpretation of Wild Bill. I hope the show can recover from his absence.
-
Everyone keeps talking about this character and that character...and who they love, who they hate, who is gonna get killed, etc etc etc.....but I'm here to tell ya folks...there is more to that show...look at the atmosphere...look at the little things....look at the animals...look at them hens...yeah, take a good long look at them hens....mighty fine lookin' hens....damn sexy chickens......And thus, how many cocksuckers this week? - - - George, The 7th Chicken!!!!
-
I'm guessin' we'll hear at least 5 this week. Why so low a number? Well, we need to recover from last week's 11...right?
-
I really like Deadwood, im glad this Bombay cocksucker is posting reviews and thus providing talbacks, but where is the motherfucking Sopranos talback? Seriously, why does there need to be a short, elliptical 'review' to warrant a talkback? The Sopranos is arguably the best tv show ever, this season is rocking all kinds of shit, and the section of this website devoted to television doesnt deem it worthy of discussion. Thats fucked up. If i remember correctly, Herc had Buffy and Gilmore Girls as his two favourite shows of last year, and Six Feet Under wasn't even in his top ten! I like and appreciate this site, but this cocksmoker Herc has some bad taste.
-
sucks that he has to go. I thought he was a really great character, and the show will suffer slightly with his loss. However, if it's true that keith carradine will stick around as a "ghost" or something helping out timothy olyphant's character to know what to do...well....that's just a fucking retarded idea
-
Well, I think it's evident from reading this Cocksucker's preview that the motherfucker, cocksucking, Cunt Mouth Son Bitch is going to whack turtle dick Wild Bill Hickock tonight. Let's just hope Wild Bill gets himself a slice of that sloppy pussy from Calamity Jane before he's sent to the big cocksucking saloon in the sky. RIP Bill, you fuckin' cunt mouth you.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA CALAMITY JANE'S PUSSY AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If Sunday picked a fight with Tuesday, Tuesday would win
by just plain steve
Sundays have the Sopranos and Alias, but Tuesdays have 24, The Shield, NYPD Blue, and even WHOOPI!!!
-
If you want to speculate on content, here's the titles of the episodes remaining after tonight: 5. 18-Apr-2004 The Trial of Jack McCall
6. 25-Apr-2004 Plague
7. 02-May-2004 Bullock Returns To The Camp
8. 09-May-2004 Suffer The Little Children
9. 16-May-2004 No Other Sons Or Daughters
10. 23-May-2004 Mister Wu
11. 06-Jun-2004 Jewel's Boot Is Made For Walking
12. 13-Jun-2004 Sold Under Sin -
yeah, they're both great fucking nights for television -- pretty much the only nights of the week i set aside for tv viewing, but i think sunday wins the fight. it has sopranos and alias, as was mentioned, but it also has the simpsons, malcolm in the middle and arrested development. add to that deadwood, and it's much more than tuesday's 24 and the shield offerings (fuck nypd blue, gave up on that show long time ago).
-
Well, the good and bad news is that based on those titles HBO is pretty much following real Deadwood history to finish off this season - anyone can tell whats going to happen by looking it up on the internet.
I know what happens 1)in McCall's trial, 2) what the little children reference is about, as well as 3) who gets killed in the last episode.
Answers: backwards for people that don't want to know.

First consistently great episode from start to finish, and not just because of the end. Hope it continues.
-
...but you have to feel bad for Monday, since it has to be inbetween those two giants. (sorry Raymond)

Jane said "cocksucker" at least 3 times this week. Can't remember anyone else using it. ///// I'm kinda miffed that Wild Billiam is on the outskies already, but the execution of the entire episode counterbalances my disappointment. Carradine did some fine work, wish he could have lasted at least the first season.
-
And I loved Keith Carradine in the role -- he was just so world-weary and depressed. Also loved the instant bond between him and Bullock. Rats. Now the only way I'll continue with this show is if my love god John Hawkes gets a big old storyline, if they continue to develop the Seth Bullock character AND they keep Molly Parker away from him. I have a horrible feeling that they are going to somewhat arbitrarily throw them together, and I loathe the Alma character. I was hoping she'd sink further into her opium habit and become Trixie's replacement or something. Fortunately any dalliance between Seth and Alma will end badly, what with his wife and kid in Michigan and all, and Bullock being such a righteous, albeit angry, dude. In any event, more Sol Star! I love him -- he's so little and cute and jocular and all. They'd better not kill him off, damn it.

8 C-suckers uttered last night, 3 by a woman. Fairly low profanity count overall, probably because Al Swear-a-lot wasn't in it much...

TOLD YOU SO...NOW BUSH AND ASHCROFT ARE GOING AFTER HBO
by notchjohnson
See what happens when you sit back, on your behinds, eating Doritos, drinking Pepsi, AND NOT VOTING OR EDUCATING YOURSELF??!!.......(Baltimore Sun, April 5 2004)....."In this field office in Washington, 32 prosecutors, investigators and a handful of FBI agents are spending millions of dollars to bring anti-obscenity cases to courthouses across the country for the first time in 10 years. Nothing is off limits, they warn, even soft-core cable programs such as HBO's long-running Real Sex or the adult movies widely offered in guestrooms of major hotel chains......Department officials say they will send "ripples" through an industry that has proliferated on the Internet and grown into an estimated $10 billion-a-year colossus profiting Fortune 500 corporations such as Comcast, which offers hard-core movies on a pay-per-view channel......Drew Oosterbaan, chief of the division in charge of obscenity prosecutions at the Justice Department, says officials are trying to send a message and halt an industry they see as growing increasingly "lawless.".... "We want to do everything we can to deter this conduct" by producers and consumers, Oosterbaan said. "Nothing is off the table as far as content."" I want to know why Bush sent our brave U.S. soldiers overseas to try to dismantle the Taliban, while we have the "white bread Taliban" John Ashcroft running wild in our country. LOL. You guys really thought that Howard Stern was OK to attack, because he's on "free" radio, and your precious, subscription-based channels like HBO or hotel pay-pay-views are off limits. Well, guess what, even a 9th grade fan of history can see that these "morality crusades" never stop at small victories. First, they succeed at banning one thing, then they move on, and on, and on, until nothing is left but Disney movies and Mel Gibson's "Passion" (OOPS, no Disney movies, they treat their gay employees like human beings, so we put up with that, now). Just wait, keep sitting on your behinds talking about Gollum and Hellboy's next sequel. Never mind about voting. Voting and participation in our democracy is for fools, right? Let Ashcroft and his minions decide for you what you can watch. (And if you think for three seconds that a show like "Deadwood" would be left alone by Ashcroft, you must be smoking one hell of a crackpipe.) Notch out.

Last night: 8. Total count: 31.
-
I liked how Darryl & Darrel's brother was right. If Al just went and got his dick wet, then his problems would resolve themselves. Go Al!
-
I waited in vain for a mention of last week's episode of The Shield. Way over the top - or ground-breaking, depending on how you look at it - for a basic cable show. One show may say the word, but it looks like it takes another to show the deed.
-
was it just me, or were there 2 women kissing on those 'next week on deadwood' clips? and speaking of lesbians, of course Sundays are the new Tuesdays, even now that the l word is over.. Anyway, from the 2 lines of the poem quoted above (I'm not reading the whole fucking thing), it sounded like the guy used to be a 'champion', but now he's just old and burnt out (an empty "cold armour"). Wich also aplies to Bill of course, they've hammered that for the last 2 eps. Cocksuckers.
-
.....You could have at least waited til the end of the season to kill off Hickok!!! Keith Carradine is a fine actor and this show will suffer because you cocksuckers killed his character. And that ghost shit I'm hearing about is totally wrong, besides the ghost thing is already being done on Six Feet Under...
-
that cocksucker Calamity Jane was a lesbo murderess on an episode of _Law & Order_. Just fyi.
-
According to the Deadwood historical site, Wild Bill Hickok died a few short weeks after arriving in Deadwood, shot in the back of the head while playing poker,by one Jack McCall...So I guess those HBO cocksuckers know what they're doing.Pity though,Carradine was an asset to the show...History also shows Clam-ity Jane became a ho and opened her own brothel,uggh.........
-
They really dropped the ball on not showing Hicock's paper when he was killed.
Two pair -Aces and Eights.
It is disputed whether the kicker was a Jack of Spades or the Queen of Hearts. -
was mentioned the very next episode. ;)
Man, I love Deadwood... The Soprano's and Deadwood comprise just about the only 2 hours of original programming worth a man's time any more. They are both excellent, EXCELLENT shows.
