New Japanese KILL BILL VOL 2 Trailer Online!
Hey folks, Harry here... The Japanese are really getting the badass end of things in regards to the KILL BILL experience... That dvd set of theirs with the Hanzo sword just rules all... Their website is cooler... On the first film, they had the more brutal version of the film... and now they have the coolest trailer for KILL BILL VOL 2 yet! Oh well... It's not like Japan has tons of cool shit we don't get over here like CASSHERN or GOD DIVA or STEAMBOY or DEVILMAN or APPLESEED!!! Yes, I admit it... I'm jealous. It is so unfair that the above 5 films won't be getting distribution here... the geek in me weeps. Oh well, at least we get this movie... which does rock balls. Here ya go...

I don't see any difference to the english trailer besides of the few cuts with the old pics from Vol1...well nevertheless thx for the links to the other Trailers, man! And Harry: if you have any contacts to QT or Miramax(or whoever or whatever) please urge them to release the japanese version/s of KillBill for the international audience at least in DVD format!!! It just sucks that we see something else than others.

Vol. 1 was my fourth fav film of last year. I hear Vol. 2 is even better! Still, I have a feeling The Passion of the Christ will rule as, maybe not the "best" film this year (technically speaking), but certainly "the film" of this year and easily the most powerful and important.
-
So how many more times will you be pimping Kill Bill this time around?... Hey guys, take a wild guess!
-
Am I wrong, or did they edit out Bill's name in this trailer? Also, I know we're only supposed to think of Uma as "the Bride" but not hearing her real name in Vol. 1 was so distracting. Let's hope T. stops messing around with us and unbleeps everything on the DVD.
-
I doubt I will see the second either. I would like to see Tarantino do something a bit more serious. Loved Reservoir Dogs. I'm just not into the 70's kung fu homage thing. I hope he makes something after this soon.
-
Okay, I remember watching the old Appleseed movie on tape years ago, and while I enjoyed it, it struck me as hilarious that the guy with the bionic head (WTF?) was a badass cyborg, but for some reason had human knees, as somebody shot him in the knees and he was incapacitated. Can anyone tell me WTF that was about?

Breathe the fresh air. Smell it, people! Smell it! Oh, and I actually enjoyed the movies too, I'm just saying it's a nice break. Kill Bill Vol. 2 is definitely on my radar to go checkout in the theater (they are few and far between these days). I didn't have a favorite movie last year, but enjoyed the first KB. I go to movies to have a good time, not to re-adjust my database of rankings of films I've seen that year. Ok, let's see, ROTK was my 3rd favorite movie last year, so I gotta bump Kill Bill to 5th, which makes...oh shit, I forgot about Good Boy! Now I have to start all over...

From what I understand, the only thing different about Japan's Kill Bill Volume 1 is that the black & white segments of the ending fight scene are in color. It was released that way in Japanese theatres as well. The Japanese just love their violence and they don't have the annoying MPAA to have to try and sneak around by making things b&w.
-
From my understanding, "God Diva" is a French film, not Japanese. It's based on a French comic book. That's not the title I've heard either. It's registered at IMDB under "Immortel (Ad Vitam)". So there you go.

There was about 5 seconds in that trailer that I actually haven't seen before in other trailers or from the first movie. Does anyone know how well KB vol 1 did in Japan? Maybe it was cut that way so people could see what they missed in Vol. 1 so that they go out and buy it on DVD before they see Vol 2.

I 'm anxiously waiting for the arrival of Kill Bill 2. I hope not to much censore cuts to it. The artistic directors versions are always shit-ted Up! by studios and censored by lobotomy lame-asses who has no idea what a blade will do to a human skin and bone.
I wanna be Killed by Bill!At your local theatres of course.

Man what the !*&@!! Jesus, when will Hollywood get a clue and hook up with some of the directors for these films like Casshern and God Diva? I can imagine films like Fantastic Four and Iron Man being done by the creative teams behind some of these incredible looking films. Maybe even Silver Surfer or the next X-Men movie. God the list is endless. Wake up Hollywood!! Why can't these films even find distribution???
-
Well, it looks like it's going to be more of the same (pretty awesome)as vol. 1, but honestly, after seeing those Japanese trailers, nothing American made even looks worth the time or the money to go see. Does anyone else out there agree with me? I mean Casshern alone looks like it would take every action film produced in America in the last couple of years (including the much loved Matrix trilogy) and wipe the floor with it.

by kampbell-kid
What I'll say will sound traitorish but it's true. Why are you blaming Japan for getting a better version of the film? Because they don't censor and gripe about silly things like Janet showing a nipple on national TV? Mabye everyone should be really bitching about our own countrys censorship and it's pathetic backward christian morals that govern it. Is it funny how this land and it's silly taboos (cigerettes, alchy, pot, drugs, etc) arn't oddly major concerns and problems outside our own country. Our country is just really like the old testament... we need a new one.
-
I... simply can't believe... how cool the movies that aren't released in America are, while we're exporting Dumb and Dumber-er to every market that wants to screen Master and Commander. Man, we suck.

Look, I love Tarantino as much as the next fan and Harry is always good for a laugh but FOR FUCKS SAKE!! THIS TRAILER IS THE SHITTIESET PIECE OF SHIT THAT WAS EVER SHAT... 4 seconds of new footage and the gayest font ever, superimposed in PINK over the OOOOOLD footage in a NEW FUCKING ORDER??!?!?!? FUCK OFF! I'm sure the film will "rock my nuts off" but this just makes me ill. I can't believe I spent time downloading it.
-
That's the better trailer. Don't give away anything, quick, simple to the point. If you liked the 1st one, see the 2nd. If not, stay away so that the fans can enjoy it in peace and bloody satisfaction.

"The Passion" got more negative reviews than positive. Best of the year? Go on, pull the other one - it's only MARCH for cripe sakes!

Asia is making the cinema of the XXI century. We need more asian movies!!!

This trailer is as bad as the KB1 trailers were good. Who on earth picked lame 80's Zamfir music for this?
-
the passion was LAME. what the FUCK are you people talkign about??? it was EXACTLY what i was expecting to see and it was BOORING. kb1 was a brilliant work of art and kb2 will be better.
-
... but I saw "The Passion" and thought it was about the most overwrought, manipulative, gratuitous, albeit beautiful to look at; pieces of Hollywood doggeral ever produced - just one guy's opinion mind you. Obviously you liked it, fine with me and each to his own. Regardless, March is a little early to start hailing "best of the year", don't you think?
-
what a disappointment -- much like the movie itself.
-
Princess, that sure is a rather negative spin on Japan. As someone who's never been there, I can't comment...but still, ouch, as a fan of Japanese cinema, that hurt. But I suppose it's the same situation here: your average joe on the street probably doesn't know jack shit about Stanley Kubrick but they sure loved that Johnny Depp fella in that dem there Pirates moo-vie. But at the same time, I was under the impression that most of the Japanese people are not too fond of foreigners AKA Gaijins...?

Would anyone know how to acquire the Japanese Kill Bill DVD once it's released? And would it play on Region 1 DVD players here in the states? I think it's a travesty that Tarrantino isn't at least releasing an unrated version for the US audience! I want to see it the way it was meant to be shown!
-
"Kill Bill 1" was the most fun I had in a movie theatre last year. I have no doubt that "KB2" will push me to the same heights. But that trailer was a whol pile of nothing. Except for that 1st line of Uma's regarding her baby- that's the 1st time I've ever heard that. But apparently everyone else saw it coming. When the hell did THAT come to light? So yeah, trailer was lousy; movie will rock; DVD set will be purchased promptly around Christmas. Yay for everything. Out.

I'm a little curious about how much time both of you spent in Japan. As an American who lives in Japan, I find many of your observations to be common among westerners (not just Americans) whose primary exposure to Japanese culture is modern media (be it magazines, TV or film). Princess, did you actually have a chance to live with a Japanese family for any period of time? Or was your exposure limited to interactions with people at work or on wild nights looking to get some at Shibuya or Roppongi? Based on your comments about how easy it was to score here, I'd guess the latter. The places that gaijin tend to go to score in Tokyo doesn't exactly attract the intellectual elite of Japan. I also wonder how much about Japanese culture did you learn or try to learn while you were here? I find that the biggest problem with people who visit Japan is that they expect folks here to act and think the same as westerners just because we wear the same clothes, drive the same cars, watch (some) of the same movies and eat at McDonalds. This expectation in itself is shallow and vapid. Just because they're not interested in the same things you are, it doesn't make them shallow. It just means their priorities are different from yours. Like I tell my fellow gaijin friends: If you think "different" always has to be judged as better or worse, you probably have no business living abroad. As far as knowledge about films is concerned, I find the average Japanese to be no more ignorant than the average American, sometimes even less so. Ask 10 random Japanese to name 6 western and Japanese movie directors and you'll probably find quite a few that can. Now ask 10 random Americans to name even 2 Japanese directors and see how many names besides Kurosawa gets mentioned. As far as Japanese unfamilarity with Kurosawa is concerned, how many American high school or college students could tell you who David Lean or John Ford is? Also, do you speak nihongo? If not, then were you expecting your Japanese friends to have deep and meaningful conversations with you in a language other than their native tongue. I can tell you from experience that this is damned hard to do. As a result, most will stick with simple "shallow" subjects. You were right about one thing though. Some people who come here do love it and stay for a long time. The ones who hate it are usually those that can't let go of their pre-conceptions about what Japan is or should be.
-
...just wait for the special edition KILL BILL with volumes 1 & 2. I'm sure Tarantino'll put back all the extreme gore his geek fans have been waiting for...
-
Just wanted to touch on your statement about Americans naming Japanese Directors. Exactly how many Japanese films are released nationwide like regular hollywood mainstream films in the United States..and since the answer to that is Zero..why would you think that an average Joe Blow American would know any Japanese directors at all? The only real exposure most americans get from Japan Entertainment venues would be Anime and Video Games. I've seen a few Japanese movies that were subtitled.. My fav Actress is Vivan Hsu. Although I like her very much, and I like Japanese Culture in general, I have to admit that most Japanese films are substandard in my opinion. Some are good, but most seem like B-Movies.
-
I have to agree, Japanese films are mostly B-movies (to be lenient). To be truthful, most are crap. Aside from the greats (Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi) and others that pop up once in awhile (The Ring, Odoru dai sousasen, Kitano Takeshi movies), most have NO plot. I thought Returner would be cool, but the trailer...was a bit lame...and was trying very hard to be like Hollywood/Mission Impossible. Now I've got to admit, Casshern trailer looks great. Hopefully the plot is great, which most of the time is not true with Japanese movies. A ninjya movie I saw had a very crappy plot, but also had an impressive looking trailer. One thing great about being in Japan, is that you get to see movies from both Hollywood, Asia, AND Europe...something you don't see in the US (I mean, like you don't have to live in LA and NY city to see these films). Two summers ago, Vidocq was out in Japan...boy did I wanna see it, although ratings weren't that great. Hope GodDiva is a great movie all around; the graphics look awesome.
-
..The Ring.. Originally a Japanese Movie.. Remade by Hollywood for the U.S. Now why didn't we get the original? I have a feeling it was better due to the fact that The Ring I saw was terrible. There is such a thing as Over Acting.. and everyone in that movie certainly rewrote the definition of it. The whole plot of The Ring was just rediculous in general. Like a ghost story some teenie bopper girls are telling at band camp, just before the lesbian activities commence.
-
I don't know, I've seen a lot of great Japanese films (in my opinion) as of late. The key is to search hard for a non-chain video store around you that carries a decent selection of Asian films. They're out there. Sometimes you have to make a drive to get to them but for me, it's been worth it. I've caught a lot of excellent Japanese and Hong Kong films, and I've been able to rent them for relatively cheap. If not for them, I'd have missed out on such cinema greats as Wong Kar-Wai. And, hey, if anyone was disappointed by Returner - which was lame - make sure you rent VERSUS. It's an excellent Japanese film in the tradition of Evil Dead. His other films, like ALIVE and AZUMI, are excellent too. There's a lot of great Japanese movies, you've just got to hunt for them sometimes.

Well suit yourself but don't bitch about your experience to others. I'm sorry you didn't seem to fit in but did you actually hang out with any Japanese people besides the ones you met at Gas Panic?
Anyone coming to Japan, as long as you meet people with common interests and work hard at learning the language you won't grow bitter like this guy. Lots of foreigners like Ktak and myself are able to have a great time in Japan and I wouldn't want anyone to give up the opportunity to check this place out because of some bad comments on a messageboard. -
...Uh, the absence of Japanese films in America is kinda the point I was trying to make. My post was in response to PrincessBuKaKee's characterization of some Japanese as "shallow and vapid." An interesting description given the almost total lack of interest in Japanese films (or any foreign-language films for that matter) in the U.S. It's an accepted Hollywood rule that any film with subtitles is box office poison. I do agree with you that many Japanese films look like B-movies compared to their American counterparts. But that's because they have much smaller budgets to work with since there's no market for them outside Japan. It's not because they don't want to export their films. The interest is just not there. Even masterpieces by the likes of Kurosawa NEVER saw wide release stateside and were usually relegated to "arthouse" showings. The current crop of Japanese horror films like Ju-on, The Ring and Dark Water are some of the scariest made in the past decade, but unless they are remade in English with western stars, mass American audiences aren't interested. Whose choice is that? We American's like to think of ourselves as open-minded and multi-cultural, but you'd never know it by our taste in movies or music. When I go to a movie here in Japan, it's not unusual to see an English, French, Chinese, even Russian film playing side-by-side with a Japanese movie at the multiplex. The sad fact is that the majority of Americans have little interests in other cultures. I've known and worked with Japanese people since long before I moved here, and it's been my experience that they understand us a lot better than we undertand them.
-
If it wasnt for LOTR ROTK last year, KB vol1 would have been everyones No 1 Flick of the Year,
which brings us to 2004 and there ain't no LOTR... -
Right on.
I guess the advantage of a non-English speaking country is that it's not any easier to watch an English film than a German or Chinese one. The result is that instead of multiplexes carrying mostly English language films, they carry the best of movies from all around the world (although in Japan's case there is obviously still a gravity towards Hollywood blockbusters). -
PrincessBuKaKee, your response clears a lot of things up for me. As I suspected, you worked for an "eikaiwa" English conversation school (dare I venture a guess that its name starts with N and ends with A?). An amazingly high percentage of disillusioned gaijin that I run into here seem to come from these kinds of places. After hearing first-hand accounts about some of the working conditions you have to endure, I understand why. Whatever the reason, these places pump out a lot of bitter and resentful employees (often after only one year). I think you would have had a much better experience if you found a position working in junior high schools or high schools. You get a greater sense of being part of the community, not to mention being able to spend more time getting to know your students, parents and coworkers. Most conversation schools have strict policies against socializing with "customers" which makes these experiences difficult if not impossible. There's a big difference between talking to someone at an izakaya or nightclub (especially when they know you're just looking to get laid) and sitting down with a family for dinner in their own home. It's a question of whether you're worth investing time to get to know. Sometimes, it can take a while for nihonjin to open up to strangers (especially gaijin), but once they do, it can be very rewarding. Some of my best friends here share my interest in jazz and blues music, and we often go to clubs in Tokyo and Chiba together. Their appreciation and depth of knowledge is amazing, but it took a while before they felt comfortable enough with me to let it show. The same is true of anything that they're passionate about, be it sports or art. It takes patience. Some people figure this out, some don't. As far as your observation about long-term gaijin residents are concerned, I'd say you're half right and half wrong. Yes, a lot of people stay here because they don't have much of a life to go home to. But there are also those, like myself, who want to know more about the Japanese language and culture than you can learn from books or movies (or a single year's experience). Name one American movie that you can point to and say, "Yes, that's an accurate representation of what my life is really like." For every negative thing that you can say about people who choose to stay here long-term, I could find equally negative things to say about those who couldn't "hack it" here for more than a year. Coming to Japan requires a considerable investment (in time, effort and money), so I don't know many people who do it with the original intention of staying for only one year. Because virtually every aspect of your life in Japan was arranged for you by the conversation school that you worked for, you really don't seem to know how difficult (and expensive) it can be to make a longer-term commitment here. For me, it comes down to this: Is what I'm getting out Japan worth putting an established home and career on hold? In my case, the answer is yes. Now ask yourself, other than your negative view of Japanese people, did you take anything from this place that will be valuable or useful in either your life or career? If not, then what was the point?
-
wow, blasting Japan, huh PrincessBooKaKee? Bet you loved Lost in Translation. Now to the subj. at hand...um, well Odoru Dai Sousasen (as you refer to it as the Bayside Police) wasn't THAT bad. But I Didn't mean to write that it was as great as Zatoichi (which it is not, as you did mention). 'Scuse for that misunderstanding, and I do perfectly understand why that movie didn't get international attention. I was just saying that Odoru Dai Sousasen was a good movie compared to all the other Japanese movies in general, shown in Japan.
-
Which, of course, means it's being distributed here in the USA.
