Wanna See The New BATMOBILE'! Us, Too!!

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

Well, it took less than an hour. Thanks to one of the sharp-eyed readers in our chat room who goes by the name of Desk, I was directed to this thread on the message boards of, which is where HarryStamperOil found them, evidently. In the weeks ahead, there are going to be dozens of hoaxes that people try to pass off. We get "real" teaser posters daily at this point. I knew that if these weren't real, we'd find out the source quickly, but I didn't realize HOW quick. Nice work, Desk. Enjoy the original article, now debunked, for the gas it is.

Oh, that crazy Bruce Wayne. He accidentally went and parked the Batmobile outside at Shepperton Studios the other day, and, well... now it’s time for the world to get their first peek at what Christian Bale’s going to be driving next summer when BATMAN BEGINS hits theaters. Or at least... that's what today's scooper says. Obviously, we're not at Shepperton ourselves, and Warner Bros. isn't about to offer us confirmation on the images, so we decided to give you guys the chance to check 'em out and judge for yourself. Like what you see? Think they're real? Could this just be an early design? We don't have the answers for you yet... just the questions...

In the script, this is described as an adapted military vehicle, originally designed by the research arm of Wayne Industries, then abandoned. Once Bruce Wayne adopts the Batman persona, he customizes the vehicle.

There are some big scenes involving this thing in the film, and I’m curious to see how it looks in motion. There’s a lot of hardware on there, and it needs to be sleek on the streets despite being fully-loaded.

This is our first look at any of the design work on the film, but before anyone goes crazy, remember that you’re seeing this out of context. It's interesting, but I want to see the world it fits into.

A big thanks to HarryStamperOil, our UK spy who just couldn’t resist the urge to share. You’re our kind of sneak, man. Keep in mind... he's a first time contributor who says he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. For now, his story seems to check out, and we'll see what shakes out in the days ahead regarding the authenticity of the pictures. Let the fanboy avalanche... begin!!

"Moriarty" out.

Now, this is all supposed to be simple and easy and back to the roots of batman right? And am I to really believe that the ARMY has developed this? This takes me back to Burton's first batman and how GREAT that film was. And that batmobile was a powerful tank of a car that on the right angle looked like a bat. Not this though. This is just the next batmobile copied from Joel Shitmakers version... which was coppied from the previous batmobile. which was coppied from the original. Seriosuly, this isn't keeping it all simple. In fact, I'm going to go one up on you. I don't like any of the casting decisions made on this new batman film. And I don't like the title. There, I said it. I was being open to it. but if this is a sign of things to come then it really just looks like more of the same.

NOT what has been described so far

    by Mister McClane

I kind of like it, but I think this is a fake or a decoy. It doesn't look like what has been described online so far, with front wheels placed together at the front, and what sounds like a more beefed-up buggy type of vehicle. This is too much like Anton Fursts original design - with wings. We'll see.

  • March 19, 2004, 6:41 a.m. CST

    by Redbox

I'm still excited by the movie, but as a designer looks like a scrunched up muscle car with everything but the kitchen sink on it. So many wavy lines and so much detail and ornamentation. not really what I was expecting from a more "form follows function" Batman. Just being honest. We will have to see it in context. I think Harry even agrees by the tinge of disappointment in his writing. We are all excited by this movie, but this is the first foul ball. Now let the league of talkback "its gonna suckers" commence!!

    by Dwayne Benzy

I was hoping that with Noland and Goyer on board we were going to be moving away from all the over-the-top production design bullshit from the previous Batman movies. But this Batmobile is the most campy Halloween piece of shit I've ever seen! That's supposed to be a customized military vehicle? It looks like it's been customized by the faggots from Queer Eye For The Stright Guy! It looks like a fucking parade float! Totally gay, and totally wrong. I demand this be scrapped.

    by Desk

These shots come from the web-site of a designer who credits this piece in his resume as "Batmobile 2000." They've been circulating for a while, and in fact in the following thread someone suggested posting them to AICN as a hoax... Also, you can see from the grass and the kerbing that these shots were not taken in the UK, let alone at the London Docklands.

These pics were not taken outside Shepperton. Look at the light and the colour of the grass behind the car. I live in the UK and can tell you that it's not warm enough for anyone to drive around in an open top car (see yellow vehicle in background). This picture was taken somewhere warm and sunny. It is cold and wet here at the moment. The images do not correspond to our present seasonal landscape. So there.

this wasn't what i saw a picture of...

    by Brundlefly

This looks like a custom design for an exhibit - because the kinds of car chases that will be in the film do not seem like they will be doable with a fucked up piece of shit like this. Charles Roven (the producer) said that the car 'goes at 100 miles an hour'. The car i saw a picture of DID look like a 'hummer crossed with a lamborghini' and would certainly be believable as an ex military vehicle. I seriously doubt Nolan is stupid enough to go with a design like this - i also doubt that the car would be left sitting in a car park for any fucking clown to photograph. If the bat suit is being kept under wraps with major security then i highly doubt this is for real...

    by Dreamhandler

Hello my fellow talkbackers. Is this the real deal or not? The pics were posted on a few days ago at I quite like the design, although a bit more length and not so much girth would have been preferable, but hey, its what you do with it that counts....size matters not. Looking forward to the movie whatever and I have complete faith in the film-makers.

But i agree if this is the real thing it could look cool in the right context with the right lighting, all film props look shit when you see them for real. I would maybe prefare the new Batmobile to be a bit more like a real car though, just because in a serious film it probably doesent really pay of to have a crazy looking jet powered car in a 'French Connection' style car chase. If that is really what we are going to get.

The person who built the car speaks..

    by Jack Black

Someone emailed the dude who runs the website where the pics were posted. His reply: "I was commissioned to build the first fully functional Batmobile for a Japanese client resulting in the vehicle you see on my WEB site. The gentleman had a temporary contract with Warner Brothers for one of the future Batman movies, but became impatient and, well you know how this kind of Hollywood story ends. As for the car, many people who saw the first two Batman movies recognized their car could only go 30 m.p.h., so I had to design a car that could reach 150! Imagine what it took...a 454 Supercharged Chevy Cheyenne engine and those boosters on the rear are gas powered air conditioning jets like they use in gigantic buildings like the NBC studios. I sculpted the entire car out of surfboard foam glued to the frame and David Coons of Coons Surfboards did the glassing. Total time from start to finish was about three years. I installed a Panasonic "talk back" computer system to give the driver a car with an attitude. As to where the car is now...who knows...maybe the Martian Rover will come across it in the future."

seriously, is there no love in your lives? you guys hate EVERYTHING! I'm serious, i havent seen a positive post on here in months! I think the batmobile looks freakin cool, and to that asshole who doesnt like casting decisions on this movie...are you out of your fucking mind!?! the casting is great, there are REAL actors, not flavours of the month, they can do a good job of this, yet all you do is sit and bitch because the person YOU didnt choose wasnt even considered! You fucking pieces of trash! Everything, everybody does, you crap on, for no reason other than 'its not right'. yeah, the batmobile is probably a fake, who cares? it looks just like i'd imagine it to be taken straight from the comic books! If i saw that coming at me at 75mph after id just ripped off an old lady's purse, id cuff myself then and there and pray that batman didnt kick my ass too bad. its just like with dawn of the dead, you guys are too busy playing with your dicks whilst watching the original to recognise that it looks badass. who cares if its a remake? i dont. if its good, then ill call it good and itll be the dawn of the dead for the new millennium, if it sucks ass, then ill call it so, and join you in bashing it, but you guys should seriously stop bashing everything you see before the movie even comes out, or the next few years will hold little joy when you go to a theatre and see dawn of the dead, dressed in a raincoat, clutching your worn down copy of the original on dvd, and hoping none of your nerdy little friends spots you, lest you get kicked out of your little dungeons and dragons club. Aaah, fuck it, its not use. You guys are gonna be haters forever, whereas me, and all the other open minded people out there will be sitting in theatres, watching dawn of the dead and the new batman, grinning like the joker and laughing at you all, that dont go and see this movie because a real actor got the part of batman, and not ashton fucking kutcher. YOU ALL SUCK!!

by salamimansam know, just like the gian red letters say, this is a fake. I know this for a fact. Let's just say that the new batmobile is unlike any we have seen before (not like this one) and it is definately, as every bit of long-since released info states: very much a cross between a humvee and a lamborghini. In the script, it is revealed to be rather large, and in reality, it is, with a dual-lie style wheel layout, and no front axle. It is super fast, and again, not what our man on the scene has published on this site. No need to wonder about these pics folks...they be fake...move along.

Kafka and Redbox are right. I would be careful if I were you guys. It's one thing to post a rumor that you have checked out, or posted with the caveat that it's nothing more than a rumor. However as of late, it seems like you guys are just posting any shit you get, and then later saying you knew it wasn't true all along. For one thing, it's transparent. Everyone with half a brain can see that instead of being men and admitting to your mistake, you're backpedaling like a couple of pussies. (Like for instance the whole Neil Gaiman debacle.) Secondly, if you guys continue to do this, why should we keep coming here? You have nothing going for you except your credibility. It's okay to be the biggest dumbass online as long as you keep providing legitimate content for your visitors. But this constant, obvious, disprovable-with-just-one-fucking-googlesearch bullshit that keeps getting posted here is getting old. How am I supposed to believe anything you say? Neil Gaiman, Fear and Desire DVD, Big fake Batmobiles. These are just lies. Why should I listen to you when you talk about Sin City or anything else?

Its like a trainwreck that I cant seem to look away from, even though I know it is so wrong. This ride is perfect for Bruce " MAC DADDY " Wayne.....if he plans on having a heavy pimp hand in Gotham, but actually, it is just so over the top that Im thinking that if this is what it means to get back to the roots of it all, shouldnt it morph from something more modest than this?

I just thought I'd throw this out there. This new BATMAN emblem-design (see at above mentioned web-location) looks quite nice, ... at least, in SHAPE. I hope it is either BLACK or a dark (almost black) blue (perhaps to match the cape, cowl, gloves, and boots) on the new costume. As for this "FAKE" Batmobile, cut Harry some slack. He never said it was official. I've never seen the car before ... but how fun it would be to drive around on Halloween, while dressed as Batman, with sidekick Robin in the passenger seat. (What a riot THAT would be!) Anyway, ... I'm saying that EVEN THIS CAR could POSSIBLY work in the context of a Batman movie ... but THANK GOD NOT THIS MOVIE. I'm looking forward to seeing a much more subtle design, yet cool in styling and very tough. I've read some comparison to the Batmobile in "The Dark Knight Returns" which, if that's the case, I expect it to be VERY TOUGH LOOKING yet look as though it's capable of very high speeds. I hope to see wide tires ... and maybe lots of angular shapes and layers, as if metal tough like a tank. -- I, for one, appreciate the information that AICN gives us each week ... even if it sometimes falls short of the truth. This is the FIRST place I go when I get on-line, to read the latest news on movies that I deeply care about. (And is my second choice) So, ... "THANK YOU", Harry. I don't know how ANYONE could run a site like this without getting fooled at least SOME of the time. I sincerely appreciate AICN, ... and I even appreciate getting to see this car. (Any chance I could rent it out on Halloween????)

    Batman's Mobile

    by MaulRat

This mobile had been circulating the web for a good long while now, the designer was approached by the proposed financiers of the live action Batman Beyond movie... glad it got canned.. they actually wanted Chris Klein as the new batman... eek.. all because he bares a little resemblance to a young Keanu Reeves... its just sad... but good for BatFans.. *BAMF*

I don't know how anyone mistook this for the new batmobile for even a second. The only person who could like this moving toilet would be the retard who glued bits of his airfix plane kits to his POS hatchback, and sprayed it black. I've done floaters mor attractive than this....

Paint the words "Eat Me" on the side and Landis could re-shoot the final scene of Animal House.
