Wonderful new trailer for HARRY POTTER & THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN!

Published at:  Mar 02, 2004 8:00:44 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... This trailer's music is creepy... I mean, if this is an accurate accounting of what Cuaron has done with Azkaban, then we're in for a very different sort of Harry Potter adventure. I'm looking forward to it, the screening in Chicago went well, and Guillermo said it was great. That's good enough for me.

Hey Harry,

Don’t know if you knew about this yet or not. It looks like the new Harry Potter trailer is online. The link is SkyMovies' Site! If that doesn’t work you may also want to try The-Leaky-Cauldron.org!

The trailer is in shitty ass window media player, but it still has some cool new shots, plus it has a little bit more with the dementor approaching the train cabin. Can’t wait to see how they turn out. Hope this link is useful.

You must have a crappy Mac because mine worked fine. Hint-go to the leaky-cauldron.org and then follow the link to the downloadable version then right click or control click on the link and save it to you computer. Then open it up with Windows Media Player. It was great.

    if it were that easy

    by topcad

You know, if it were that easy to just borrow elements from other novels and create a huge best selling series of books, then why doesn't everybody else do it? Rowling is talented, the books are fun to read, the movies are fun to watch. End of story.

I'm no Harry Potter fan, but I've seen the film and it's great

    by carson dyle

It's far darker, much funnier, and definately more sophisticated than the previous installments -- and it looks fantastic. The director, in this instance, has been perfectly cast.

    Not original?

    by zacdilone

To claim that Rowling is unoriginal because of the elements mentioned here is to say that "Star Wars" was unoriginal because it had space ships and swordfights. C'mon people...read before you criticize.

    Williams best in a while

    by sharpel007

Is it just me or does it seem finally that Shore and Zimmer are rubbing of a little on John Williams. Dont get me wrong he is great, but he could use some change. And if the music for this trailer is any indication, i think Azkaban will be his best work in a while. Damn June cant get here soon enough.

Topcad ... it IS that easy ... and that's why it sucks

    by zaphodbb

Topcad ... everyone IS stealing elements from other people's hard work ... it happens all the time and I'm getting sick of it! Look at Microsoft stealing all of Apple's well-researched & well-developed ideas and incorporating them into Windows ... look at how every time a hit movie comes out, there's always plenty of blood-sucking leeches waiting in the wings to rip off that creativity with a clone of their own. Rowling sucks the bone! and PeteyS, I agree with you totally!

    The first movie...

    by iamnicksaicnsn

sucked anus. So many characters were left out, and it was all disjointed and sloppy as hell. The second one was better because I assume Columbus and the kids were used to the parts a little more, but it still wasn't perfect (Alan Rickman was definately the best part of both). The trailers for this new one are awesome though, and considering that Azkaban was the start of the incredibly gripping storyline that we are experiencing right now, (it's like the longer they get, the better) this movie should be savage. The new Dumbledore looks a little... too small? I always pictured him being a skinny, tall guy with a crazy presence. Richard Harris was ok, but I personally think that he should've been replaced by either Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen. In fact, I think Patrick Stewart could play every part in the movie, but that's just me.

    by jackbristow

Oh my, I never realized that Rowling stole the dementors' look from Ring Wraiths. The nerve of her. OH WAIT. There's this guy named Dickens who Tolkien stole the Nazgul's look from. And Dickens stole the Ghost of Christmas Future's look from the popular personification of Death.

    If you squint real hard...

    by dataset

...it's almost a dead ringer for Neil Gaiman and John Ney Rieber's far superior "Books of Magic" series of comics. This is very sad, since it means we'll never see movie versions of Tim Hunter and Molly, since most will think they are ripping off Harry Potter and Hermione. Even though the Books of Magic came out eight years before. People are stupid. But of course we all know that or we would be talking instead of typing. Check this out. This is really funny. http://www.jesusdressup.com/#

Windows Media doesn't have to be that bad. Quicktime is ALWAYS preferable, to me at least, but if the marketing department can't at least get a decent windows media version out, then they have problems.

    No, not Ringwraiths

    by ribbons

While you can lay claim to Rowling being "inspired" by certain elements of 'The Lord of the Rings,' Dementors are more likely culled from the idea of death (as Ringwraiths were) than the actual wraiths themselves. Tolkien didn't invent everything. And nobody complains that he borrowed elements from other people, which I will not list every time one of these trolls pops up, as I've done it about thrice before, and countless others have as well, I'm sure. 'LotR' will endure. Now get over your insecurities and stop taking them out on J.K. Rowling.

  • Maybe because they're aren't any rubber nipples, overacting, giant mechanical spiders, or gay robots. What's even weirder is the fact I've enjoyed all the movies so far despite being too old and not having read any of the books.

    Ribbons is correct.

    by robe

Tolkien based his Ring Wraiths on the classic image of Death. Other writers have had black robed creatures just read Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, the spirtit of Christmas future looks like this.
JKR Dementors don't have eyes or legs and they do not have have swords or horses or fell beasts. I never remember a Ring Wraith sucking someones soul out.

The reason WB hasn't fucked up the Potter series is Rowling herslef. She maintains a pretty enormous amount of creative control over the property. When Potter 5 came out last June, she said in Newsweek that she was very happy with Alfonso's work on Azkaban. Unfortunately DC comics has no such 800 pund gorilla to look after its characters. How hard can it be to get a quality Superman movie made?

  • Mar 04, 2004 5:57:22 PM CST

WB owns DC so the comics just have to sit there and take it.

    by darksider

WB I think wants to be Disney and tries to turn all the comics into kids stuff and lunchboxes. Harry Potter was already geared for kids so that's why it works. WB and other don't see that comics for the most part are made for teens and adults but they want to market towards children for cash. Sorry for the rant.

Rowling NOT a rip off artist

    by devindemon

Has anyone who's accusing Rowling (Petey S) actually READ the books or just seen the movies? The movies just skimk the idea behind the books...one has to really READ them to see that. The books are very, very different from one another. Rowling's books, while set in fantasy lands, deal with very real subjects: loss and death being a primary example. These themes run heavily through the series and help drive characters and actions. Sure, Jo Rowlingn uses familiar mythology, but she uses them in ways that Tolkien did not.
