Is There Life In GOONIES 2 After All'!

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...



I’m running another article today in which I mention the hiring of Dougherty and Harris for ENDER’S GAME. These are the guys who wrote X2, and they’re also working with Bryan Singer on a year-long run of ULTIMATE X-MEN and the development of the inevitable X3.



They were also attached for a time to work on GOONIES NEVER DIE, the sequel to the bewilderingly beloved ‘80s film, and based on what I’ve heard, their take was a success with both Spielberg and Donner, and everything was on track to actually get the film off the ground before a long-standing rivalry between Spielberg and Alan Horn derailed the project permanently.



Today’s scooper says differently, though, so I thought I’d run the report and see if I can smoke out the truth in the process:


Dear Harry,

I’m surprised Moriarty hasn’t reported on this himself, but something needs to be said, so here I am. Last night, the midnight show at the Nuart in Los Angeles was Goonies, and to the delight of the audience, there were appearances from Corey Feldman and Robert Davi. Corey got up in front of the audience, fielded questions, and talked a bit about what’s happening with Goonies 2. The deal is this: there was a fan petition some time ago, and several thousand signatures were gathered. The petition was presented to Richard Donner, who was delighted with the prospect. Spielberg is behind it, the ensemble cast is behind it, and there have been something on the order of 5-6 scripts, according to Mr. Feldman’s heat-of-the-moment figures, but none of them have yet lived up to the original. A screenwriter has been brought on board to start hashing it out, and the WB has decided to use the petition to gauge the pent-up demand for this project. Corey said that the executives suggested that they go out and see if they can’t get “a few thousand” signatures. The bottom line is that if the fans get to the online petition that’s running en force, and if the execs are surprised with the amount of support the project has, then it seems we’ll get an original cast reunion.

Goonies fans, this project is in your hands.

    I'm all for "Goonies 2"...

    ...but I doubt the decision to producee it will be based even slightly on an internet petition. Seriously, you can find online petitions for making "Baby Seal Eyes" a new Ben & Jerry's flavor. *friendswithbenefits.com*

    There's no way to do this and not have it be a complete terd. If there going to bring back something from the 80's then they need to remake Clash of the Titans. Imagine hoe cool they could make that now. Just a thought.
