As Dad began rewinding the Body Snatchers, more people arrived, the tap was on again. People I didn't know, people I did. Tim from the Alamo Drafthouse shows up with an entire beer cooler filled with beer. I'm fairly inebriated, as is Annette and Joad, but our film brains are left UNTOUCHED by the evil tongue lapping of the devil's brew. The yard now has around 42 people, all chatting and talking and having a good time. Elijah comes over and tells me he has to leave, that he had been up all night the previous night, and well he wants to get some rest. But then he begs me to have another 'ALL NIGHTER' soon, and he promises that he won't leave, that he'll stay till Apollo pulls the illuminating chariot across the sky. (actually just for accuracy's sake, he didn't say it like that)

People are getting psyched about COFFY. I, myself, had never seen the film. I have been dying to see it. Ever since I saw SWINGING CHEERLEADERS and SWITCHBLADE SISTERS, I've been a Jack Hill fan, and I wanted to see COFFY. And now we have a copy. Sure, the guy who sold it to us said it was 'Red as hell' or as my Dad calls it, 'Eastman Pink' due to the manufacturer of the film stock. I make apologies in advance to everyone due to the terrible copy they were about to see.

Dad starts to life the ol flicker machine and... wow. The opening scene starts off in a club with... RED LIGHTING. Soon as they move out of the club...well, it's normal lighting and there is NO RED! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Dad and I do a little hi five and sit down to experience COFFY.

The audience... a drunken lot of film crazed fans.... sat in awed respect. This was Pam Grier as the film goddess she was. From the opening scenes of the drug pusher going to town on Pam's nipple in the backseat of the drugmobile to the glorius double barrelled shotgun action of Pam's... well this movie just kicks so much ass.

This is PURE EXPLOITIVE NIRVANA. The dialogue alone is worth buying the film, but then the breakaway breast exposing tops, the cat fight to end all cat fights, the blown away groin, the white mutherfuc*er who would have her crawl on her knees, the boyfriend who may be able to pee again, the afro that hides jugular piercing devices, the razor-bladed hair do, the sugar injections... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it's all so cool.

Is it demeaning? Yeah, but so the hell what. This is the sort of film that plays 100% better with an audience, than any ol stuffy drama. The backyard was alive with hoots and hollers. Everyman wanted Pam, and every woman wanted to be her. She took crap from noone and dished out death like pork & beans.

This movie is soooooooooooooo much better than FOXY BROWN. I'm serious. Soooooooo much better. Find it at the godly video corner store and watch it with the largest group of friends you can find. It'll electrofy you.

After COFFY everyone's eyes were peeled back and awake. Beings that it was about 0130 hours and many people's stamina was dwindling, about half the crowd took off. Little did they know they were going to miss...
