Buffy or Cordelia as WONDER WOMAN'

Published at:  Feb 09, 2004 10:51:10 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... None of this is confirmed, at this point it all seems to be speculation, but... Personally I'd rather see FAITH play WONDER WOMAN than either BUFFY or CORDELIA. What? How does Buffy-heathen Harry know shit about any of them? Well - it's all Herc's fault. For my birthday this year he gave me the 4th Season Box Set of BUFFY dvds. Now, I hadn't seen a single episode. I'd seen clips on TV and thought... that looks lame, but here he was, throwing the gauntlet down... and I took the Box Set... thought about re-gifting it to someone that loves Buffy, but then thought... "No - Herc wanted me to see this!" So I sat down and in one night watched the entire 4th season. (ADDITION: I started at 6pm and ended with that really bizarre dreamy episode where Xander got totally screwed out of screwing Willow and Lesbo-Chick!) HOLY SHIT, Buffy is a cool fucking TV SHOW! Specifically, "HUSH" is perhaps one of my all time favorite episodes of any episodic television. And Willow, will you marry me? ANYWAYS - I haven't seen Cordelia yet, so I don't know if she's up to kicking ass Wonder Woman style, but Faith - while a tad short - THERE'S WAYS AROUND THAT! - would kick ass as Wonder Woman. Of course, that may just be me wanting her to get in a WONDER WOMAN outfit all Lynda Carter-style! By the way, did you know Wonder Woman married Robert Altman? How fucking cool is that?

Hey Harrry-

Came across this article that Sarah Michelle Gellar AND Charisma Carpenter were up for Wonder Woman.

Click

There's probably nothing to it but as an interesting side note both CC and SMG were up for Buffy at one time.  Besides CC in a Wonder Woman outfit isn't a horrible thought although neither was Halle Berry in a Catwoman outfit and looked how that turned out.

I'm pretty sure they got Charisma's name from a comment from a recent TV Guide interview:

Click

TVGO: What are your plans?

Carpenter: Well, I can tell you what my goals are. I have a son now, so I want the half-hour sitcom lifestyle, where you can have a family and work. And then, during summer hiatus, I'd like to do a Kill Bill or Wonder Woman or some movie like that.

TVGO: Wait, you want to do the long-rumored Wonder Woman movie?

Carpenter: I am actively putting it out there that I want to do Lynda Carter. It's my mission to be Wonder Woman! My agent hasn't seen a script, but some studio needs to do it. She's beautiful, she fights, and I like the concept of an empowerment role. I've always been so passive on Angel, where they usually wouldn't let Cordelia do martial arts stunts.

Charisma wants to kick ass and bust heads!

Whether you can use this or not I'd be interested as to where the Wonder Woman project currently stands.

Your pal,

Rex Luthor

Ok - Harry here again. I've only seen season 4, I don't even know who Cordelia is at this point. All I know is apparently she apparently did something with Angel and Buffy really hates her. I think she turned Angel into a vampire, but I'm not really sure about that. That's just what I think from Season 4. Herc says he'll get me the other sets for my birthday this year, as he wants to be responsible for educating my ignorant ass. HOWEVER, based upon photographic evidence that Charisma fans have been sending me, I think she could do WONDER WOMAN wonders. Here ya go....

I like Eliza (Faith) and all, but I think Charisma's got the look. SMG, good as Buffy, would be an awful Wonder Woman, in the looks department, anyway. FWIW, my vote is for Cordy, who ought to be back on Angel, but would be a good choice for this role.

As you can see the story originated from the Daily Star which would be the British equivalent of World Weekly News in terms of factual entertainment reporting. The Daily Star has said in the past, that Britney Spears would be guesting as a demon for 8 episodes of Buffy and that Australian pop singer Holly Valance would take over Sarah's role in Buffy season 8 (and look how true those stories turned out to be).

    by zer0cool2k2

And as far as the three Buffy actresses mentioned here, Carpenter would be the best choice (not necessarily the bst choice of all, just out of the three). I love Eliza, but she's a little too street tough image-wise for WW. And SMG, great as she was as Buffy, just isn't the right physical type. I mean, WW has got to be able to have that Amazonian physicality, and be able to stand up to a Superman shagging. ........ And while she's too young and girlish, The O.C.'s Rachel Bilson did indeed look quite hot fulfilling every geekboy's dream in that Wonder Woman costume. I think they're gonna' have to get "Christopher Reeve" lucky and find an unknown with the right look, who just happens to have the acting chops to have any hope of making this work. They did get lucky with Lynda Carter before though. ............... And Harry, you really need to watch the other Buffy seasons. Season 2 might be the best season ever, of any television show, and season three will make you love Faith even more. (plus it includes the great ep "The Zeppo").

    by riskebiz

When Mike Deodato was the artist on WW, there was an updated costume that was mostly blue and had a jacket to it. WW looked very modern and it looked good and worked very well. If they go and update WW's costume for the movie, they should look into that costume for inspiration. I sort of liked the loin-cloth look Alex Ross had, too .. but I actually preferred that Deodato costume to the original.

Catherine Zeta Jones has the perfect look for Wonder Woman. I just think studios would look at franchise potential and be afraid she'd be too old, and also look for a younger "name" to bring in the all important youth market,(hence Beyonce' being rumored to star in everything). This is the problem with studios worrying about franchises BEFORE they worry about making one quality movie. One thing about CCZJ, though is you know she'd bust her ass to make the role work. She handled that sword like a champ in Zorro, looked incredible in that heist flick she did with Sean Connery, and got into awesome shape after having a baby to win the role in Chicago. She'd look great in that Wonder Woman bustier, but Michael Douglas is probably the only one who's ever gonna' know. ........... I'm just glad Sean Young has gotten too old to parade around Hollywood dressed as Wonder Woman.

why the fuck would they make a wonder woman movie? who's going to see this? kids are, rightfully, going to think it's incredibly dumb. some adults are nostialgic about wonder woman, but mostly nostialgic about how stupid they were back then for liking something called "Wonder Woman". that and comic fans who think wonder woman is cool simply because she's an old comic book character, and all old comic book characters are major dieties to them. that's not a big target market for a film, and even they wouldn't see it, cuz they'd know beforehand it would suck (from going to this site). superman is a mainstay of popular culture, and wonder woman, no matter what some twentysomething comic fans think, really isn't.

She has always been regarded as one of the big three in DC comics...Bats, Supes, and Diana. Those are like the first ones you think of when the name DC is mentioned. WB took long enough to get her into animation form on Justice League, though I still wish they had gone the earlier route and gave her her own series like Bats and Superman. This is the last of the three that they can try their best not to screw up, and I for one hope they don't.

but that's my point. sure she's one of the most important DC characters, but to most of the world, that doesn't mean much. 'batman' and 'superman' together defined superheroes and comic books for years to come, wonder woman was just a way of saying, "look, women can be superheroes, too, support the war girls!" women heroes today have to be badass femme fatales, not anything like wonder woman, so i don't think anyone will have much of an interest in this movie.

Some girls can recover from having a kid and some never do. I hope she does as I always thought she was gorgeous. All I'm saying is, she doesn't quite look like those pictures anymore. Actually did not see the pictures you mention, but did YOU see how great Charisma looked on last week's Angel? I'm not saying she's the *ideal* choice for Wonder Woman, but she could definitely pull it off (frankly her ass tattoo, which is otherwise a truly wonderful thing, will probably work against her there). SMG, on the other hand, is delusional if she thinks she makes any kind of sense as an amazon. Somebody needs to refer her to the dictionary definition of the word "amazon" for chrissake ... she's just too damn short! It's like casting Danny DeVito to play Rocky Marciano. Frankly I'm amazed she got the Buffy role, so maybe she's got some kinda casting mojo ... but I can tell you one thing for sure: any WW movie with SMG is a surefire miss.

She did still look a little bigger than normal when she did that TV movie, and she definitely doesn't look like a high school girl anymore, but she looked pretty friggin' hot last week on Angel's 100th episode. And I've always said if someone would put Jennifer Connelly on a high calorie diet and put her in a gym to muscle up a bit, she'd make a great Wonder Woman. And I'm not sure she's got the right look for Diana Prince, but Kelly Brook, late of Smallville has got some great cleavage, as long as you're bringing up non-American actresses.

    by cory849

Neat idea but I dont know if Charisma has the star power to pull it off. Seems to me Wonder Woman needs a SERIOUS "A" list actress to make the money it needs to make. The male superheroes can be unknowns (punctuated by celebrity villains) but wonder woman - even if it is part of the "big three" is WAAAAAAY third. I don't even know if the right actress to do Wonder Woman is in hollywood right now. All the hot up and comers are young petite blondes. So I pose a question - who fits the following criteria:
    1) Late 20s to Early 30s. (2) Preferably a blue eyed brunette (but not necessarily. Hair dye does wonders) (3) Is right on the cusp of exploding hugely like Colin Farrell just did or Angelina Jolie before Tomb Raider (4) Has the presence to give Wonder Woman enough presence and gravity to be taken seriously (Sigourney's too old now). (4) Isnt already tied up in, oh say, a Tomb raider franchise.

Y'know, sitting here looking at Harry's posted CC pics, (that flag shot has always been one of my favorites), I started reminiscing about Lynda Carter's big rack and tiny waist when she was in the WW costume. Anyway, it got me to thinking about current actresses with a similar look. The first person I thought of who's got that reasonably athletic look, curvy and sporting a tiny waist was Rebecca Romain Stamos. Now she's not huge. cleavage-wise, but she's definitely got enough that a little costume padding could fill in the rest. Sure, she's gotta' have the Raven locks, but that's easy.

    by rapmaster c

First, I said "maybe". Second, Jennifer Garner looking like a teenage boy is perhaps the looniest exaggeration I've ever heard. Anyway, they'll probably cast some unknown as Wonder Woman, rather than some A list Hollywood actress; on this talkback so far, there hasn't been one good person mentioned that could fill the role. But I definitely agree about SMG: she's too small for the role. The "ugly" comments were a bit cruel though.

    Charisma as Wonder Woman? Hmmm....

    by psyclops

I'm not sure about that. I haven't seen her play anything but the self centered Cordelia Chase and even when that character turned into less of a bitch over the years she still only had a handful of dramatic moments (last weeks Angel was a stand out). I always thought Jennifer Connelly could play a mean Wonder Woman but given the "success" of HULK, I don't think she'd be up for anymore comic book movies. Also, I'm really glad to hear that Harry digs BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. It's always been one of my favorite shows and it's good to see that Herc's obsession with all things Whedon actually did some good. Oh, and Macstone... I agree that Jennifer Garner wouldn't work as Wonder Woman but she's a hell of an actress (and a hottie to boot).

That whole AMAZONIAN thing, shot to hell ain't it?

    by sectors2

I guess DC and Warners has just shot to hell the whole concept of wonder woman, being from an isle of Amazonian warriors', ala Zena. Not that I'm campaigning for Lucy Lawless to resurface from the land of 90's 'Where are they now's" alongside Kevin 'Hercules' Sorbo himself. Andromeda doesnt count as a resurfacing. C'mon.
But then, if Marvel can change Wilson Fisk from Anglo Italian Mob head into african american Green Mile, and stretch a comic God such as the great LOGAN himself, a full Feet in inches. 5'3" (Comic height) to 6'3" (Hugh Jackmans' height), then I digress. Maybe it'll work after all.
Awwww who're we kidding? Wonder Woamn'll suck like a cross between the original Dolph Lundgren starred Punisher and Charlies Angels. Untill Warners AND DC prove on the big screen they they can produce anything remotely close to a GOOD comics adaptation to movie, 'Make Mine Marvel'.
But at least give the role to this Charity chic. Buffy would be so wrong for this role. Almost as wrong as Beyonce would be for a SERIOUS Lois Lane contemplation. Wondy and Supes have CAMP written allll over them. Siiiigh, where's my XmEN DVD I need to watch a good Superhero movie, pronto!

  • Farrelly Bros. Want Crowe for The Three Stooges Source: The Herald Sun Monday, February 9, 2004

The Herald Sun chatted with Peter and Bobby Farrelly who are planning the big screen version of The Three Stooges for Warner Bros.

"We would like to get Russell Crowe for Moe," said Peter. "He is the perfect Moe. He hasn't done a big comedy and the movie is basically The Stooges are back in the present day, there is no time machine taking you back. We are big fans...so we think it would be fun to work with him." The duo has yet to approach Crowe about the role.

The new movie will be an adventure that revolves around the Stooges characters originated in the classic Columbia Picture films

    WONDER WOMEN

    by renata

Any of these women - Charisma or Eliza (not SMG, who is too petite) -- would be fine if this is gonna be a TV MOVIE or series. But a feature? My guess is no studios gonna put a big budget franchise flick in the hands of a t.v. actress who's never carried a feature before (has Carpenter ever been in a movie?). Sure, they're gorgeous. Eliza is hotness defined. But they're t.v. actors, incapable of filling up a big screen unless they're riding shotgun (BRING IT ON). Also, what little I've seen of ANGLEL, Carpenter may be one of the worst actresses this side of Madonna. Any feature of WW will probably include Jennifer Garner, the Amazaon du jour.

Sela Ward would have been great. Super hot + super talented. Too bad Hollywood considers her over the hill when I think she's way sexier than most of these skanky, fake-titted blonde broads. Her tv gig on JAG pays the bills, but she's done enough movies to show that she can hold her own. And she has the voice.

And before we go 'head and concede the role of every female lead in Hollywood from here 'til June 2008 to Beyonce "Booty" Knowles, let's campaign for a true DIVA to get the part. She's got physical stature, legs to kill for, a wonderful hue of skin tone, and a smile even more beautiful than Michael Jackson's... The greatest female starlett of the modern era, Ru Paul. **Studio applause**
Never mind the fact that she's a man, a mere formality when the magic of Hollywood can turn Charlize Theiron into suicidal, homicidal, genocidal trailer park trash. and while we're at it, let's cast Stuart from MAD TV as that colonel guy she falls for, and Dom Delouise as Darkseid.

All 7 seasons had great episodes (as mentioned by others here...The Body, Once More, With Feeling, Hush etc) but there was something special about the first three years. I didn't give it a chance based on the stigma of the original movie, but I happened to catch the ep where Xander gets possessed by the Hyena. I knew the show was something special when the students ate the principal. You just didn't see writers going that dark and funny on tv and getting away with it. I also happened to like the film grain when they had a lesser budget (and when SMG was thicker way more attractive). Opinions vary, but as far as I'm concerned from "Welcome to the Hellmouth" though "Graduation Day" is some of the finest TV ever. Almost enought to make me forget season 7 and definately better than the usual lawyer, doctor, and cop shows that always get overpraised.

    Eva BABY!!

    by lance_uppercut

It should be Eva Mendes!!! although Charisma is super foxy too. And ironically like Harry I also started watching at season 4 and Hush sealed the deal considering its one of the best eps ever.

    Herc Converted Harry!?!? Great news!

    by whedon

Harry I would recomend watching Seasons 2 and 3 before moving on to 5-7 since your obviously missing some much needed back story as you started in the friggin middle of the series. While any Buffy season is greatness personified season 4's story arc was probably the weakest of the series with Adam being a pretty lame Big Bad. My favorite season is 5 followed closely by 6. Love it dark.

My first choice to play Wonder Woman, Elizabeth Short...

    by sapphos

...unfortunately had to split and sever her ties with Hollywood, so I'll have to settle for Amanda Peet.

P.S.: Charisma is cockeyed as shit.

I dont think theres ONE SINGLE actress that will demand the scre

    by rcamacho2278

its true, women are not known for their action roles . so you got me,

I just say they should dump the ww idea and make a DANGER GIRL movie, with britney spears as alley, and jessica alba and some other hot girl, and bruce cambell should be in it.

Charisma would make a great Wonder Woman

    by xsi kal

I would love to see Charisma play WW... she's absolutely gorgeous (now that Team Whedon no longer gets to tell her to hack her hair off and dye it blonde). She definitely has the body for the role, and I think she could handle the acting chores as well -- it would certainly be something somewhat new for her.

SMG as WW? Please. I almost could not bear to watch her as Buffy in the last few years, walking around like an anorexic. Suspension of disbelief for fight scenes is very difficult when it looks like a stiff wind would blow her over.

    Wonder Woman

    by bluangel1976

Sarah Michelle Gellar is too short and has the wrong look for Wonder, she was also horrible as Daphne in the Scooby Doo movie. Charisma would be perfect for the role of Princess Diana/Wonder Woman!!! I am a huge Wonder Woman fan and became a huge fan of Cordelia Chase on BTVS & ANGEL, Charisma is a fantastic actress and I would absolutely love to see her kick ass as Wonder Woman. But who should play Cheetah? Linda Carter should play the part of Wonder Womans mother, I wouldnt mind seeing Mark Lutz as Steve Trevor.

    Bad Taste

    by bluangel1976

Some of you have the most god awful taste as far as casting movies go--the worst suggestions ive seen so far for the role of wonder woman--Laura Prepon (the REDHEAD from That 70's Show), Lucy Lawless (too damn old and short to play the part), Monica Belluci (are you people smoking crack?), Sarah Michelle Gellar (she's called Wonder Woman not Wonder Midget--she's an Amazon not a christmas elf). What next? Halle Berry, Gwen Stefani, Queen Latifah, The Olsen Twins, and Pauly Shore---thank god some of you arent casting movies in Hollywood.

    Rachel Weisz, a classy actress

    by somnambulating

Would it be too much to ask for a Wonder Woman who's not a total tramp? This is shaping up to be another Catwoman-sized disaster... they need to get someone who can a) true, not look ridiculous in the outfit but also b) have the acting chops to pull off the Amazon-heroine. Just cast Rachel Weisz already.
