Tussle Over!!!! ABC Whacks KAREN_SISCO!!!!!
Susan lied.
ABC has pulled its plug on last fall’s best new show, “Karen Sisco,” despite ABC entertainment president Susan Lyne’s public promise that the show would be back this spring.
"Rather than give up, we're going to complete production on the remaining episodes and aggressively relaunch the series," the exec said in November.
Ratings-wise, the Carla Gugino vehicle did not perform well opposite NBC powerhouse “Law & Order.” Still, fans had hoped it would fare better in a less brutal slot.
The show was set to resume production next week, but a story in Friday morning’s Variety suggests network types were unhappy with the first of the proposed new scripts.
It’s unclear whether or not the three filmed but unaired “Sisco” installments will ever make it to air.

I, for one, loved it, and will mourn its loss, along with the other great show ABC killed off, Miracles...those f&ckers

I, for one, have no opinion on the show because I never saw it.

But man, Carla Gugino is one fine-lookin' mama. She's like an older Katie Holmes with the cheekbones and all (in my eyes).
-
Please, let's put four short-run reality shows or a CSI clone in there instead. Because that hasn't been done before.

Way to go ABC. Karen Sisco was a smart, funny show with hip music, clever stories and a great cast. Would have been PERFECT at 10pm after Alias on Sundays. But no. I am this close to cancelling my TV service all together. The minute I get invested in something that's halfway decent, they pull the f'ing plug on it. Why? To make room for more monkey sh*t like Survivor All Stars, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancee, The Simple Life and Average Joe Millionaire. We need a network that is smart enough NOT to cancel things like Sports Night, Firefly and Karen Sisco. Is that too much to ask?
-
I reeeeally liked this show. I kinda understand why it's cancelled though. I had absolutely no interest in watching it...it just happened to be on one night...it took about 30 seconds for it to hook me. Family Guy is coming back though... Oh Yeah!
-
Some other network needs to grab this hot babe and give her another show...stat!
-
It's been three years, I think, since a new show I liked made it to a second season (smallville); everything else has gotten cancelled mid-season. I'm starting to wonder what the point of even trying to watch network shows is. All of the good ones die young.
-
Karen Sisco, The Job, Freaks and Geeks (I think that was on ABC) But dont worry, they havent dropped Life With Jim!
-
I liked it, but I didn't get to see it much because it was on opposite Law&Order, and that's can't miss for me. They should have given it another slot, and then made their decision. I hate it when they put up a quality show up against a high rated powerhouse, like when they put Vengence Unlimited against Friends, and The Tick against Friends as well, what do they think will happen?

Karen Sisco: Too much Poseur White Boy Funk for its own good
by charles grady
The show was breezy and entertaining enough, and anything with Robert Forster is worth your time. But sadly, this show suffered from an overdose of slightly smug "hipness" that seemed like sheltered, lily-white writers and producers trying their hand at Florida underworld cool. Every element of "coolness" just seemed like the actors and writers were trying just a NOTCH too hard. OUT OF SIGHT suffered from a touch of this as well, with uber-geek Soderberg working overtime to funk up the proceedings with groovy songs and quirky comedy. In any case, SISCO was never going to catch on, even in a revamped form, even paired with ALIAS. Quirky and hip, even when it's forced, don't often fly with American couch potatoes, who like their crime shows either cut-and-dried, just the facts (CSI) or as nail-biting and intense serials(24, maybe ALIAS). Laid-back bemusement, a la SISCO, isn't exactly gonna make for Must See TV, no matter how acclaimed the show is.
-
Well, I for one am sick of dry "just the facts" proceduerals with cardboard characters you don't give a shit about. Karen Sisco may or may not have "tried too hard" but at least it tried, and that is more than I can say about the million other L&O and CSI clones out there. I, for one found Sisco to be a great show. Definitely the best new show this season and it's failure in the ratings shows how brainless network programming has gotten. WHo are these drooling pukes who determine the ratings? Fucking idiots, the lot of them.

WHO IS WATCHING "MY WIFE AND KIDS"??? How does that stay on and this gets tossed out? I really enjoyed this show. It could have been beetter but for what it was it was alright. I'll also terribly miss Carla Gugino. Hopefully she'll get soemthing else going.
-
That's what I think of ABC's decision to yank this underappreciated show. And to Charles Grady, the Talkbacker who charged the series was trying too hard to be funky & cool... I can appreciate your take, but I really think there's far more to the show than that. The best part of KAREN SISCO was that beneath that veneer of 'attitude' were characters with a pulse. Besides, most of the show's hip attitude was breezy and tongue-in-cheek -- a refreshing change from the strained hyper-cool of the Tarantino school. And anyone who saw the tragicomic "Dear Derwood" episode would attest that the show could also deliver a significant emotional impact as well. I'll miss KAREN SISCO. Hopefully, by some miracle, it'll end up on DVD.

I loved this show. I wrote the network and my local station just to encourage them to keep the show on the air. I love seeing Robert Forster every week and that baseball player she was dating was ULTRA hot.
-
Just go watch FX....their re runs are better than half the shit on TV now. And thank God for shows like The Shield and Nip/Tuck. I am sad to see Sisco go, and after cancelling Miracles ABC should just be axed in general. I can't think of one show I watch on ABC.
-
It couldn't hurt...
-
Here is a topic for some serious debate: who is more wildly incompetent? Studio executives or network executives? I think this one is a real nailbiter.

Shows that pander to a non-existent female audience is not creat
by sexybeast
This is just another Me Too female lead TV show that has been killing ratings on TV for the past year. -
Why is it that I read complete spoilers for the next three episodes of 24 and all this site goes on about is crap tv shows and movies made by some unknown independent from japan?
-
fuck this show, jake 2.0 kicks ass!!! or i should say kicked ass.i mean come on, there are at least five shows on upn that could have bees scraped to keep jake on.
-
a pox on abc's fall schedule! Was it great? no... but it had more hope than the rest of the new crap I saw last year.
-
Why did they bother lying? If they weren't going to bring it back, why even keep the door open? I really liked this show, I can't believe they didn't give it a decent chance. Miracles was good, but it was religious, I could see why they didn't want to bother when it didn't perform right out of the gate. But hits have to be nurtured, and Karen Sisco was a good one, it had a lot of potential, at least as much as their super shows like Alias and the Practice.

How devistating is the loss of Pixar to Disney, especially on the heels of closing the animation studio in Orlando.
-
But like they said at the end of SportsNight (another great ABC cancel):
"Anyone who can't make money off this show should get out of the money making business"
It looks like that's the way things are heading for ABC
Spathos -
shows get cancelled
because they stink
this was no exception
-
Another good show axed because the networks would rather program cheap reality programs.
