USA's TRAFFIC: THE_MINISERIES!!

Published at:  Jan 26, 2004 1:56:06 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Pretty Mary McCormick, a Soderbergh favorite, is in this. Does this mean Soderbergh is somehow involved with this miniseries beyond “inspiring” it? Its connection to the movie is otherwise tenuous at best.

Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter seem impressed with the mini’s ability to generate suspense.

TV Guide says:

Debut: The lives of three men collide in a three-part drama about drug smugglers. In the opener, DEA agent Mike McKay (Elias Koteas) allies with an Afghani heroin kingpin while his wife (Mary McCormick) copes with their unruly son (Justin Chatwin). Fazal: Ritchie Coster.

Variety says:

… handsome production takes too long to get going, but eventually generates considerable suspense … the editing moves so quickly that initially it's difficult to zero in on the main characters, whose stories gradually coalesce into an intricate web that ultimately unravels a bit in the final installment. … Without giving too much away, however, the payoff isn't particularly satisfying, and a few of the third-part twists are unfortunately predictable, undercutting some of what has gone before…. Buoyed by strong performances from its mostly low-profile cast, "Traffic" is nevertheless a laudable effort whose three-night format and brooding content present a serious marketing challenge…

The Hollywood Reporter says:

suspenseful and fast-paced … the stories from exec producer Ron Hutchinson are fresh and packed with excitement and stylistic turns. The cast may lack a huge star, but it doesn't want for solid and convincing performances from start to finish. … a thrill ride that demands full attention from the opening scene, but viewer patience is generously rewarded. In any case, the story unfolds in such a mesmerizing manner that turning away from the screen is never an option. … In particular, Koteas shines as the mysterious but dedicated agent juggling long-distance family responsibilities with a job that doesn't come with a well-defined playbook. …

9 p.m. Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. USA.

skip this & watch THE WIRE

    by heymanniceshot

...if you want a 'slower than NBC's creative process' show that has incredible writing, acting, charaters and interesting human story lines that have total payoff, start watching The Wire (especially when the next story arc begins). This site has been a big cheerleader of The Wire but it hasn't given slaish updates the way it does ro a certain angel or vampire slayer. RECOGNIZE!

I liked the first episode last night. The acting is great and the storylines are handled well. I like the Afghanistan stuff quite a bit.

    This was really great

Lots of memories of season 1 24... Stephen Hopkins directed and produced... lots of tight editing and pacing, and I love the zooms! Great stuff.
