Cool News
Murphy joins Bishop in ALIEN VS PREDATOR
SPOILER ALERT !!
Hey folks, Harry here... Now see, this is really cool. The sort of thing that gets me excited. Seeing these two together working in this movie would normally be the sort of thing that'd get me foaming at the mouth. Then there's that Paul W.S. Anderson thing. I remember when they announced Kurt Russell in SOLDIER, and I went absolutely nutsoid crazy, as he was genetically designed for the part... and Anderson fucked that up beyond all recognition. He could ruin a prom queen fuck.
Greetings Harry and gang,
Last month I was fortunate enough to exchange e-mails with one of the press invitees (For his sake, I will not name him outright) who took part in the Prague AVP set visits, and he dropped MAJOR hints that a certain "Detroit Cyborg" would be involved in the upcoming movie. To keep a long story short, after a lengthy discussion and a whole lot of begging, I finally managed to squeeze some interesting details out of him. While this would come as quite a major spoiler, this is hands down the best news I've heard yet coming from a motion picture with Paul Anderson's name attached to it.
Peter Weller (RoboCop) will be making a brief appearance as billionaire industrialist "John Yutani" opposite Lance Henriksen "Charles Weyland," CO-owners of the greedy corporation in the Alien universe palpably named Weyland-Yutani. Weller (Yutani), who plays Weyland's darker half, will be the person who influences Henriksen's "Weyland" character to take part in the latest archeological dig in a strategic move to gain full control of the company. While not knowing of the imminent danger his associate is yet to encounter, Yutani knows of Weyland's ailing heart condition and means to benefit from his partner's untimely demise by sending along a company assassin. What bothers me some is the similarity from both the first RoboCop and Alien movie dealing with the rather cliche corruption bit, but this is merely supposed to be a precursor. Here's to hoping Anderson doesn't park this flick in the rehash zone for too long.
On the other hand, I personally I feel this is a great pairing, being that both actors are more regarded for their roles as Cyborgs/Androids in two science fiction blockbusters of the 80's. Call me Pumpkin Head.

I could care less about this movie

Why cast a gaijin as Yutani?!?! WTF? Weller doesn't even look remotely Japanese. Well everything I hear about this movies sucks @$$ why should I be surprised at this? BTW....first.

Yo, even the man isn't saving this PWSA crap.

It's a joke, guys. The woman on it is Michelle Trachtenberg in a shot from the trailer for Euro Trip, if you go to the site it's a spoof site (with a lik to the Euro Trip homepage) pretending to be for a Dutch sex shop, but it's not porn.

...was that is sounded like it COULD be Japanese, but also that it might NOT be. I always loved how non-specific that was, as I'm sure it was a comment on the certainty that technology will be comandeered in the future by the Japanese. Of course, being the thoughtless hack he is, by revealing the face(s) of Weyland-Yutani Anderson will drive a bulldozer through that particular piece of ALIEN lore, just as he is doing with everything else.

It's a ad for a (presumably not-too-good) movie. Just click the link if you dare and find out.
By the way, it's 'site', not 'sight'. -

Can't wait to see it. Especially since it will now put a whole new twist on everythiing that happened in ALIEN with the company sending the crew out there to purposely find the xenomorphs. And hell is it just me or can anyone else not wait to see what result a facehugger would have on a Predator?
-
...I'm still hoping it'll turn out okay. Who knows, this could be Anderson's masterpiece. Despite Harry's railing against him, the man does have talent. Sure, he lacks subtlety and finesse but do we really need those qualities in a "versus" movie?

Seen the effect in games and comics. Pretty dire. Not very thrilled to see the Anderson version.

...the Predator series has been dead for some time. The Alien series was already dealt a mortal wound during Alien 3's opening credits. Ironically, Alien:Resurrection finished off the series for good. I look on AvsP as just sort of an added bonus for the hardcore fans.

Is this the new pet bitching? A non-Japanese Yutani raped my childhood? There's plenty of high-brow, arty and challenging fare out there if you take the time to look for it. Wassa matter? Cant take a joke?
The corporation should have been called "O'Neil & Schienburg" and the VP's could be played by an Chinese guy and an African-American. -
Like others, I always thought that name was meant to be Japanese--which certainly fit with the '80s perception. Weller isn't very Japanese, so I'm trying to figure out what their rationale is here. Is he to be a descendant of Italian Americans? Of course, on Firefly they had lots of Chinese names to go with the idea that Chinese and Euro-American cultures merged, but then they didn't cast a single Chinese American actor. I know, evil network. Must be more clients of Wolfram and Hart.

As usual, Mr. Knowles lets forth an over-the-top, unrelenting, vulgar stream of vitriol with regard to Paul W.S. Anderson. Well, actually he went easy this time, relatively speaking. But the usual theme was still there. It's fine if you don't appreciate Anderson's movies. It's fine if you think he's a horrible director. But why in these insults does it always seem to me that Mr. Knowles has a personal vendetta or grudge against Anderson? It just doesn't seem professional to me. Isn't the horse dead yet? As for Weller and Henriksen, I'm not sure why this news is a big deal or a good sign, given that their roles sound like little more than cameos.

yeh ok lance henrikson and peter weller would be great, but everything i hear about this movie scares me shitless. Why is it when we think everything is safe and hollywood is finally onto a good thing we get bombarded with shite that fucks it for everyone (Punisher, Catwoman, and Paul WS Anderson latest pile of shit). Whats gonna happen to xmen, spiderman etc? Please Hollywood for fucks sake wake up and make good movies again instead of letting good franchises go to complete dickwads!!!!
-
Didn't Peter Weller as Buckaroo Banzai already destroy John Yutani, as well as John Yaya and John BigBootay???
-
Weller and Henrickson are both way over the hill at this point. Have you seen either of them in anything lately? They are both terrible! Why don't we add a few more stiffassed old men like Roy Scheider and Tommy Lee Jones -- and lately even Harrison Ford -- while we're at it? The only old men who can still act with some degree of believability are Michael "Call me Granpaw!" Douglas and Clint Eastwood. Even Gene Hackman is starting to show his age. Anyone seen HEIST? Ouch!

Ads belong the margins, silly webmaster!

I guess he wasn't a chip off the old block.
-
And so is AvsP. I don't care if you put Olivier or Poitier or any 'iers' in it, Paul WS Anderson will fail them and the project. There's not one picture on his resume that is even half decent ("Event Horizon" is about quarter-decent at best, and the best thing Anderson directed). It makes me wonder what Milla has to do for studio execs to get her man a next gig.
-
is not a problem for me. I grew up in Hawaii where seeing a Caucasian-looking guy with a Japanese name is nothing special. Even in Japan where I now live, I sometimes run across people who are half Japanese who look almost completely caucasian. It's just a genetic roll of the dice which side someone in a multi-racial family will take after appearance-wise. Weller is actually a good choice. When Buckaroo Banzai came out, I bought him as a half-Japanese
/Caucasian because he actually looked a lot like a friend of mine who has the same ethnic background. -
Ol' Buckaroo has really had a bad lately. I thought he was dead until I saw "The Order" then I wished he was. The only thing that this bit of 'news' proves is that this flick is doomed. It's going to be the final nail in two the premiere sci-fi series and for what? To make Dark Horse's dreams cum true? So all you fucking stupid fanboys can see an Alien fight a Predator? This flick is bound to suck, you can hear it from here. And let's not forget that Paul Anderson's directing. Remember him? The only reason they would cast Peter Weller in the flick is to pick up as many pieces of 80's memorabilia as possible so people will go, "Ooooo, look! IT'S FUCKING ROBOCOP!" and distract everyone else from the shit they're watching on screen. On a side note, I'm happy to say that I'm going to wait about ten years, then pitch my own idea for an "Alien/Predator" flick. Yeah, it takes place on world called "WEEKENDGROSS" and concerns a large group of assholes who have no taste at all going to this planet to see a fight between two characters from separate franchises. You see these people comprise the entire population of Earth after the market reasearchers destroyed it. They get there, they see the fight and they spend the next two years bitching about why it wasn't better. I hate you all.

I can't speak for the validity of the claims about crew members talking behind Anderson's back - everything seemed pretty relaxed and happy when I was there, but then they knew we were press, of course.
Having said that, there are some glaring inaccuracies that make me think this is just shit-stirring BS.
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...the Aliens are all painted silver
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were given free reign to wander around ADI's FX workshop, and among the dozens of Alien suits, there was not a single "silver alien". They're all jet black, and look most like the Alien from the very first movie. So, bullshit, frankly.
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...The Predator suits are so big and so heavy, that the actors cannot perform in them, and are getting tired out very quickly. They were made so incredibly huge and muscular, that there's literally 4, and in some places, 5 inches of foam rubber on the costumes, and that's before all the armor goes on it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the Predator suit...well, when we met the guy playing the Predator(s) he was wearing the main Predator suit, and - yeah - it's bulky. He can walk around in it just fine, but needed some help (and a special chair) to sit down. But then, that was the highly detailed costume used for close-ups and scenes where the creature needs to linger in frame. We also saw 2nd Unit filming on an Alien v Predator fight, and for that shoot the suits were lighter and a lot more agile.
That's pretty common movie practice - you have the "hero" suit (or vehicle, or whatever) which is used for main unit shooting, and is the most detailed and convincing. Then you have lighter, customised versions modified for whatever action scenes or stunts are required.
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All of the armor was made separately, and is added on once the actor is in the already incredibly bulky, ridiculous looking suit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, for the "main suit", yes, the armor is seperate...because if it was all part of one big rubber suit, it'd look shit. It wouldn't move or hang right when he moved. The armor is hard plastic, the suit is foam rubber - of course they're seperate items. I watched the original again a few weeks back, and the armor in that movie looks pretty seperate from the suit too.
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...even though most of the actors playing Predators are like 7 feet tall, they all look like giant m idgets because they are so bulky and they can barely walk, let alone fight and jump around like Predators.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He looked pretty fucking cool when I was face to face with him, and was walking just fine. As for fighting and jumping...again, they had suits modified for that purpose, and they were jumping and fighting just fine.
I don't want to be seen as an apologist for this movie, as I have plenty of doubts and misgivings about it myself - story, dialogue etc - but having seen what Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff have done, none of my concerns are with the FX department. The creatures look as cool as they did in their prime.
That AICN piece stinks of somebody taking a shot at an easy target.
whats that, harry?? got nothing to say for yerself? thought so!
Stop posting lies about movie just because you dont like the director. lets see how well your ghost town movie turns out before you go trashing out other peoples work. Betcha you'll be laughed at of the theatres once its made.

Anything PWSA touches is guaranteed to be horrible shit.
by smeg for brains
And just remember that they chose this film made by this talentless hack over a new Alien film by James Cameron AND Ridley Scott. The two masterful creators of that series were turned down in favor of this trash that will finally kill not one, but two film series. If this wasn't reason enough to hate this film, then just look at PWSA entire career and see that there is absolutely NO hope for this film at all. And to the guy who said that we should be happy to be living in the fanboy goldenage, you are full of it. Fanboys are ussually idiots who like the most horrid crap as long as it has a character they like plastered on it. No Alien vs. Predator film is FAR more prefferable to the horrible shit one we are getting (and yes I know I haven't seen it yet, and I usually wait to see a film and know it is bad before I say so, but this case is different as PWSA can't make a good film. Period. His name has just come to mean bad. No need to see it to judge it. His name = garbage).

Since Peter weller is one of the most limited actors that got big in sci-fi (to some extent), I'm not too excited about this (it was cool to see him paired up with Heath Ledger, one of the most limited newer actors out today, in 'The Order'. It was kind of like watching 2 pieces of wood interacting on screen).

Personally I'm glad that Weyland-Yutani are back to the fore as I own the company (no, I really do). WY seemed to get sidelined for some secret-military-government-bollocks oufit in Resurrection. Very ill advised in my view, the mystery surrounding WY in the first 3 films was far cooler (in fact I liked it so much that I bought the company). AvP is bound to be train wreck though. ...Alan Silvestri needs to score this sucker. Musicwise, the Aliens have no really consistent theme throughout the series, whereas the Predators do. Also, I think Silvestri's work often has shown signs of the aggressiveness and martial tone this film would seem to benefit from. Just read that article written by a REAL reporter who got the REAL scoop on the movie. Everyone I know who had doubts about the movie before read this and now have hope for the movie.
To base something off of what some other moron pulled out of his ass is just moronic.
Why not do ACTUAL research of your own and find out the TRUTH about the movie before you trash it?
And, just because you might hate Paul Anderson doesn't mean his movie will suck. I admit his other movies were bad - Resident Evil was really good, however - and you can't predict how his other movies will turn out without seeing them or at least learning the truth behind them. -

Robocop in AvP Movie - Prank! 1 Comments
Movie News | 1/21/2004 | 18:27 PST - David Shipley
If you haven't found out already, yesterday's Ain't It Cool News report about actor Peter Weller (Robocop) participating in the AvP movie -- is a prank. Uh-huh. Unfortunately for AICN, however, they didn't know it was a prank -- nor how it was aimed at them for their negative and ultimately outlandish claims about the upcoming movie.
The man behind the prank was none other than the AvP community's very own [UMS]The Loonatik - a frequent contributor of news to PlanetAvP. It seems he wanted to show to everybody that Harry Knowles, the big man at AICN, was a fake and accepted anything half-decent as news. I guess he showed him... and all of us.
Kudos to Loonatik for the crazy prank!
Oh and here's another one you'll enjoy.

I believe Paul W.S. Anderson is a very good genre director. He definitely sees science-fiction more than just children's fare, and I admire that about him. We don't have enough R rated sci-fi coming out, and Paul Anderson, along with David Twohy is belting out edgier genre films.
"Mortal Kombat" is an okay film, but you can't deny it's stunning visual qualities.
Now "Event Horizon", I enjoyed very much. This is great science-fiction, solid acting, great sets and production value. Anderson also paces this film well and is creepy at times.
"Soldier" gets on the B-film side of things, and is very loose considering it being a sci-fi actioner. However, I'm a Kurt Russell fan and I thought it had a decent concept. Definitely not as bas as Harry stated...
"Resident Evil", is also pretty solid. A well-paced action/adventure/horror film. Sure it shys away from the video game which it's based on, but I thought it worked. It's a lot of fun.
Anderson is no James Cameron, but I like him and his stuff is no way as terrible as people make them out to be. I have faith in "Alien vs. Predator".
The person that can ruin a prom queen fuck would be Harry Knowles, and that's if he was ever given the opp, which I'm sure he hasn't.
