The latest ridiculous shot of Halle Berry in CATWOMAN!

Published at:  Jan 16, 2004 11:24:55 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... Every now and again there's a trainwreck forecast by Hollywood. This is one of those. CATWOMAN in name, but with no established commonality between the character it was based upon and the film. A costume that... well, would be ridiculous and seemingly low-rent in the most ridiculous of alleged plot-filled porns. As much as the geek world despises the Joel Schumacher BATMAN films... even he never put out images as tastelessly depraved and repugnant.

I want to like the film because I'd like to see Pitof do well, to not see the medium of comic book films return to the pit of hell it was when I started this site and lastly... Halle Berry has the potential to be an amazing actress. I loved her work in MONSTER'S BALL and in X2 - her scenes with Nightcrawler were amongst my faves... But this kitty cleavage shot... it could only be more ridiculous had their been a bowl of milk on the floor that she was licking from. Here ya go...

    by billemic

I've read that this actually has a budget of $100 million. $100 million on this shit fest! So Warner Brothers is going to need to make at least $200 million to break even after the all the cash they're going to spend marketing this film, trying to convince people that it isn't crap. WB has already lost their core audience, though - the fanboys. Any true, self-respecting Batman fan isn't going to see this. So who is? This looks to be an even bigger disaster than Batman & Robin, or at least as bad. They should just stop filming this right now, cut their losses, and find some way to make money off the rough, bootleg footage that would be sold at comic book conventions across the US.

From the studio that gave you such bloated craptaculars as "WILD WILD WEST" and "THE AVENGERS", this one looks to continue the trend! Everyone, take a vow right now -- AVOID THIS THING LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! If the film loses enough money, the alleged "creative executive" ASSHATS who fucked this up will get fired. And WB definitely needs some house-cleaning before they try to resurrect Superman or lay their hack hands on any other DC title. I'm just stunned at how bad this looks. Bad bad bad....

So I turn the page again in today's EW after the first table of contents page -- and now there's a full on BACK view and it's even more atrocious!!!! "CATWOMAN" will make "BATMAN & ROBIN" look like a Kurosawa masterpiece. The thing that cracks me up is that (No-Longer-AOL) Time Warner owns Entertainment Weekly, and some genius probably thought it would be a good idea to splash their studio's big bomb all over the rag to get people interested! Whatever genius decided this -- YOU'RE A MORON!!!! I am running in the opposite direction! This is a full-on trainwreck! Way to go, Gerry Levin -- is this the synergy at work you were hoping for with all your brilliant mega-mergers??? PLEASE EVERYONE, STAY AWAY -- let's all see how LITTLE money this movie can make! Wouldn't that be fun?

    by halcyonseven

Ok... Lets all say what we are thinking... She is so getting ready to get fucked in the ass. I mean... It is so obvious. I know its crude... but I couldn't resist. Now I cannot understand what WB is doing! I am just know reading the new Catwoman (a bestselling comic book series by the way)in trade paperbacks and it is incredible. Good storytelling, interesting characters, almost a noir feel. And here is the most disturbing thing to me: It seems like instead of catering to people who like the comic books or even women in general they are more concerned about catering this to a black audience. Saying things like it is "very hip and urban" etc, etc. Now it is not bad to cater movies to people of specific races (I mean we see it everday...Honey? The new hip-hop dance movie? "My Babies Daddy"? Anything on UPN?) But it seems insulting to the fans of the comic to be more concerned about making a "urban" (and we all know that is studio or media talk for "black", and how insulting is that to African-Americans anyway?) movie than about making a good one? And isn't insulting to African-Americans that these are the shitty movies that are being catered to them? Personally I think it is sad on all acounts. A bunch of fat white (men and women) suits at WB sayin'"We ought to chuck everything that makes the comic good and give it a urban twist!" Since they really know what urban is.
    I have a headache.

    by johnny ahab

Please do not trot out the race card here. Halle was terrific in "Monster's Ball". She didn't have much to do as Storm in the first "X" film, but did a decent job in "X2". But I will NOT let you get away with your comment. It is demeaning and in and of itself, racist. From the article itself: "Halle Berry would like to set a few things straight: 'Catwoman' has nothing do do with the 'Batman' franchise (no Bruce Wayne, no Gotham City) and features a feline femme who bears no relation to Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina Kyle--or for that matter, Julie Newmar's or Eartha Kitt's. This is an entirely new legend (a shrewd business decision, since Warner Bros. is working on a separate "Batman" revival)." Shrewd?? Are you kidding me?? Then why do this film?? This character has been around for a long time (over 40 years at least) -- and was played by an African-American at one point, the terrific Eartha Kitt. SO WHY CHANGE ALL OF THE HISTORY?? Why disrespect all that has gone before? Why don't we just toss out Bruce Wayne and Gotham, and make a Batman film with a guy in a bat suit with no relation to the comics, movies, etc.? Because it's a STUPID IDEA!!! THAT'S where the hate is coming from, not out of racism. If any hot white actress where in this very same outfit, I would be ripping this movie apart the same way. The suit looks like shit. Period. It reminds me how stupid the Daredevil leatherboy costume looked in last year's comic dud. THIS IS NOT WHAT CATWOMAN LOOKS LIKE. It shows a blatant disregard for comics fans and the audience in general. It shows a hubris and arrogance on the part of the studios ("we know what will sell -- we know what's better for the audience"). They don't. The hate is directed at the studios, not any African-American.

I believe this is from EW... "She practices a form of Brazilian martial arts called capoeira, and -- hold on to your hair balls -- even prances. ''It's definitely more edgy, more reflective of the times,'' promises Berry. ''We just shot a dance scene that is really exciting. She's in touch with her sexuality, thinking 'Damn! I look good! I should enjoy this!' Catwoman is all about self-empowerment.'' That, and belly-baring leather suits." HEY EVERYBODY! A DANCE SCENE! YAY!!! I laughed so long I spilt my Guiness. Then I got angry. Oh so angry.

It somehow feels like WB is trying to pass this as a "hip" bastardization French/urban type thing. Like "Birds of Prey" if it were on UPN by way of Swimming Pool or something. Plus, they've thrown in plenty of T&A as a desperate ploy. I bet there's going to be some artificial sexual tension between Sharon Stone and Halley in the trailer i.e. Sharon advancing towards Halley as though they're about to kiss, just to try and get even more interest in this shitfest.

NOT racial-- just a bad costume-- sorry

    by bma

LUSH mentioned that this whole thing is a racial issue... I say thats totally not the case-- I think every guy who posts up on this thing would LOVE to have some alone time with our actress in question...she just deserves a MUCH better costume thats more in line with what fans of Catwoman would expect...MILLIONS of dollars are poured into these projects and we got a put together fredricks of hollywood outfit that isults the audiences intelligence a bit--
showing more skin for the sake of showing more skin isnt always the way to cash in on sex appeal...did you see the chick in UNDERWORLD? -- she was covered from head to toe...but she was SO incredible and looked great--
even Hallys costume for Xmen was sexy -- and did so without being cheap --

bottom line is that...you can design a costume in a million different ways..but with a character that already has such a large recognition value...you try to cater to the expectations of the fans if you can...this costume just doesnt do her justice for the sake of the character and for the sake of Hally as an actor--

if this was for something else and you took off the cheesy gloves and mask...I would have to agree, that she is sexy as hell-- nice pin-up... but its not what I think Catwoman should look like... give Hally Berry a costume that does HER and the character more justice.

2004 is going to bring about the death of superhero movies. At summer's end, the studios will look at the disappointments of Spider-Man 2, Punisher, Hellboy and the abyssmal failure of Catwoman and conclude that the moviegoing public no longer wants comic book heroes in movies. Say goodbye to X3, Superman and Fantastic Four.

    by jcfig

Seriously, I see 2 things wrong with this. First off, judging a book by its cover can be idiotic because what we see in some stupid photo is vastly different than from what we will be getting onscreen. However, I do see where one person pointed out that this will be some Directors take on Catwoman, which basically means the directors has the liberty to throw everything thats come before this movie out the window, including everything that Tim Burton did as well as what we saw in the comicbook. Instead what we'll probably end up seeing is some asshole producer or directors vision of how he sees Catwoman. Hell, Pitof, the director even claimed he would start fresh. This from some asshole who a) couldn't give 2 fucks about the comic or its timeline, and b) has no consideration for the hardcore Catwoman comic fans, who the movie should be for in the first place and the people he should be trying to please(I'm not one of them). Second, by appearances Warner Brothers has fumbled the ball yet again. Begining with the third Batman movie, Warner Brothers has managed to fuck things up with some of DC's greatest and most famous comicbook ideas. I'm talking about easily the 2 most easily recognizable characters on the planet, Batman and Superman. By mixing "Dawsons Crack" with either Superman or Batman, they have utterly bastardized Superman and Batman to a point where they don't bear any resemblance to the original concepts. To elaborate, "Smallville" and "Birds of Prey" were the shit piles I am referring to. Another mess on the horizon, according to Warner Brothers, is a show which basically mixes the Flash + "Dawsons Crack"(fucking great, like we don't have enough of those shows already), theres only one problem. There is no character named The Flash, Wally West, or any other character from the comicbook, the Flash character has to do with a boy who can't run fast or has superspeed, but can go into the future(what the fuck?!). Why call it "The Flash" if has no elements from the comic, why not give the show some lame-ass name like "futurekid". The point is, if they're going to make a movie about Catwoman, take a lesson from Hellboy and stick to the fucking source material. Theres nothing wrong with dark blue or black purple leather and if any of you think there is, look at Jada Pinketts character From the Matrix wearing red leather. The point is, theres no plausible fucking reason to steer away from the source material for this movie. And no, i don't give a damn about Halles skin color, what pisses me off is the shit costume I'm seeing.

The "rips" in the fake leather pants aren't her skin, but skin-tone netting used to coverup ice skaters' otherwise "exposed" areas... It looks like a 13-year-old trying to be a stroke magazine model. Julie Newmar would still look better'n this.

The sad thing is that when this kitty tanks they are going to blame it on the source material and say, "Comic Book based movies don't sell." Here is a hint once you eliminate the character from the comic, the story from the comic, the costume from the comic, the character's original origin and ethnicity, you no longer have a movie based on the comic book!

Us Americans Needs Things Dumbed Downded

    by thejon

It seems as though they are dumbing down the Catwoman to hit a broad demographic. Good. While they're at it, they need to start making everything a little stupider... ...such as Americanizing James Bond, Americanizing the next X-Men (too many people didn't understand X2, right?), but most important of all: they need to Americanize books. Who wants to read page after page with no pictures? This is a good trend to start, and if this movie is a runaway smash hit, then we'll know I'm right.

    Entertainment weekly/Warner Brothers "Synergy"

    by renonevada2000

Well, it's no surprise that EW is going to cram this craptacular film down our throats. While, I haven't done a scientific study, I seem to recall more EW covers promoting Warner Brothers products, than anything else. Jeez how many times was the MATRIX on the cover before RELOADED hit the screens? I believe it was twice in a five week period. (That's 40% of the covers in just over a month.) That's not just synergy between separate corporate divisions, it's damn near unethical.

Yeah, I agree with about 99% of everyone here. This movie is going to be like a deer in headlights. You know, the race card has nothing to do with it. Infact, I would have prefer Billy D Williams as Two-Face. I like Duncan's proformance as the Kingpin. And if Berry could have been in the same content as the Catwomen in the comics then I would be eager to see it. No, they decided to CHANGE everything.

I realize it's fiction... but I love how comic book characters, in the movies, can run around in high heels.

Dress the character like Jim Lee's Catwoman with the tight suit and the boots... looks good and at least appears to be somewhat functional.

Lord Grant Me Amnsesia From Those Pictures

    by tigernan

Well, the truth is that how horrible it is has at least some small thing to do with the fact that it's Halle Barry, who does come off at times as somewhat full of herself. The poster who compared this to how stupid Daredevil looked had it right on -- if it had been another actor, it might have been all right, but because it was BEN AFFLECK, it looked twice as horrible. I'm not saying that any other actress, white or black or blue could have saved this mindbogglingly awful "costume," but it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't Halle "there are no roles for strong black women" Berry. The other problem is exactly what the EW article points out -- it has no connection to the source material. I'm so sick of hearing about how Studio X is going to take Concept A and make it "hip," "edgy," and "modern," which usually means completely ignoring the years of history behind it so that they can do whatever they want to, which to me is just plain lazy. Why not make a Legion of Superheroes movie, set it in present day, and have be young kids on motorcycles? Or a Teen Titans movie where no one has any powers at all? A Firestorm movie with a young girl without the gene for fear? Etc. I think we all agree that what sucks most about this is the missed opportunity here. Could have been cool, and now there won't be a Catwoman anything until I'm 70 years old.

    by tigernan

Get out of the movie now. Break your contract. Take the hit, however much the fine will be. Go to the press and say that you realize how shitty this movie will be, and you need to get out of it -- all will be forgiven. In fact, we'll respect you for it. Refuse to do press, or if you have to, use that time to stand in the doorway and warn people away. Stand there with your Oscar and tell people you're sorry. Personally hand each person in line five dollars and a copy of a Batman comic book. Take responsibility and we can all move past this. Offer Warner Brothers your services in whatever shoot 'em up they have going on next summer if they can this now and bury it forever. Then take X3 with a smile, and never, ever say anything bad about comic book movies or how hard it is for you to get work again. Peace.

And remember all the pre HATE hype that surrounded Terminator 3 last year from the same studio. Sure T3 wasn't a masterpiece but it was good popcorn fun. So wait till Summer see the film and then pass judgement. Maybe it won't be the greatest movie made but thats what November and December Months are for. Summer months are for FUN and i've got a feeling this isn't going to be as bad as you all think. Remember that wise old saying kids Never judge a film by the dodgy costume pics on the front.

While I am in now way defending the movie itself (I haven't seen it), I think many of you are being rather harsh on what are obviously posed for publicity shots. We have yet to see any footage from the movie to see what the world that the character inhabits looks like (sets, lighting, etc.). I am quite sure that there were many people who felt the same way about MICHELLE PFEIFFER's Catwoman costume - neither of which resembled the comic book versions. I actually think Halle Berry is a good choice for the character. She's sleek, slinky and very sexy - and best of all, she can ACT! Now, this doesn't guarantee that the movie will be any good, but it certainly won't be because of Halle Berry and her costume.

What we really have to worry about ...

    by riskebiz

Catwoman is going to do Dickie Roberts-like box office and studio suits will assume it's because comic book-based movies are on the wane and they'll be less likely to greenlight another one (outside of Spiderman/Xmen). And will it suck at the box office because we, as an audience, are tired of these comic book themed movies? NO. It's because of ill-conceived notions of "brand name" recognition and little else when these suits sit down to plan out crap like this Catwoman and completely throw away everything having to do with Catwoman outside of the "brand name" of Catwoman. Of course, these studio suits will never take the blame. I just watch Dumb and Dumberer (I was curious, sue me) and you HAVE to watch the studio executive at New Line who actually makes this laughable statement about ingorance and then mistakenly refers to Drew Carrey instead of Jim and no one caught it and had them edit out the guy making such an ass out of himself. I had to laugh that the director/editor did it on purpose because the exec was a complete suit when it came to casting Lloyd Christmas and totally jerked everyone around.

    RETURN OF THE PUD!!

    by bill maher

Nobody has stuck up for Halle Berry -a strong, proud black actress- as much as I have. When 400-pound dungeonmaster virgins got all pissed off when Lord of the Pasty White Queers and tried to claim Halle only won her Oscar because of quotas, I was there for her. When creepy masturbating comic book nerds bashed her in the X-Men movies, I was there for her. When racists panned Gothika because they were too fucking racist to believe Halle Berry could be a strong, proud black psychiatrist, I was there for her. So when all these geeks started saying Halle Berry -a strong, proud black actress who blazed a trail young African-American starlets would follow for years to come- I thought they were just embittered D & D nerds who are still crying because LOTPWQ didn't win any REAL Oscars, so they have to keep whacking off in their velvet 12-sided dice bags. Well it looks like I was wrong. Catwoman, is just a ploy by the racist movie business to bring down the career of a strong, proud black actress, just like the FBI wiretapped Martin Luther King's bedroom to try to bring him down. This the kind of bait-and-switch the Man is always pulling -just like Dubya going to MLK's tomb on his birthday, then a day later appointing a racist creep like Charles Pickering to a federal court. The only way to honor the memory of Martin Luther King's dream of a non-racist America AND honor the memory of Halle Berry's perfect tits is to boycott this movie.

Attention, Warner Brothers: Get A Clue...

    by unlistedgreg

...or better yet, go watch a movie based on a Marvel Comics property, they get it way closer to right than you guys seem to. You're butchering the Superman franchise, and you're gonna murder the Batman franchise next. This movie is going to be the Supergirl movie for the 21st Century. Warner, fire your suits or st the very least, tell them to shut the fuck up, or better yet, sell DC Comics to someone who'll know how to handle them. Warner Bros. has become synonymous with "Contempt for audience".

If every single "Tentpole Studio Blockbuster" for the next two years is a comic-themed movie, the *other* 95% of the moviegoing audience is going to get pretty tired of them. Comic book movies won't necessarily crash because of 'Catwoman,' but showing a little fucking restraint, looking for good movies that deserve attention and maybe haven't gotten it, and developing these comic properties until they actually deserve to be unleashed into the cineplex might help establish its integrity as a genre. Of course, in the tradition of Disaster and/or Talking Animal Movies, superhero flicks will probably go the way of Icarus before we ever reach 'Domu.' Oh well.

    EW Says "She Prances"

    by jervis tetch

THAT'LL be something to see. WB seems to be in some sort of weird "attack mode" on this movie. "It's bad, we don't care it's bad, we're forcing it on ya anyway." And there's a photo in there of Sharon Stone (the villainess, fresh from her huge comeback in "Cold Creek Manor") looking half coked-out. Good luck saving this puppy. It'll only make dough if you go to see how bad it is.

Hey has everyone forgatten about that article about the Orson Wells Batman movie? Was that ever confirmed, or debunked? That is one awesome urban legend. And I don't mean "black" legend. Catwoman

    by mafu

I'm just amazed they managed to make Halle Berry look ugly. I mean, even in "Monster's Ball" she looked really good despite her character's general lack of allure. She's generally regarded as an attractive woman, I think, and I'm just amazed they've stripped her of all her beauty with these pictures. Now that takes some talent.

  • Let's be honest for a minute... this movie was not made exclusively for a dwindling comic book readership. To do so at the expense of the average movie-goer would be financial suicide because they would be severely limiting their potential audience. The movie, costume and casting of Halle Berry are targeting the non-comic book fans - which far outnumber the "comic book geeks" who complained about the casting of Micheal Keaton as Batman, the costumes in X-men (which even prompted the filmmakers to insert an 'in-joke'), Colossus' lack of a russian accent and, of course, Halle Berry as Storm... to name just a few. Personally, I NEVER saw Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman and thought her costume was just ridiculous with it's stitching, origin, etc. There has never been a faithful adaption of the character's costume to the big or small screen. Although Julie Newmar will always be THE definitive Catwoman in my eyes, I have no doubt that there are just as many fans of Eartha Kitt's portrayal of the character. Halle Berry is undeniably sexy, and she will have men AND women lining up to see this movie. The look of the character plays into so many S/M, B/D, Fetish fantasies that the movie will make its money back on sales of Catwoman costumes and accessories alone.

  • I posted a rather long, profanity free talkback last night with comments of what I believe this new Catwoman film is going to be, symptoms, etc... That post was deleted for what reason I know not from this talkback. That said, here I go again.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. I remember falling in love with Michelle Pfieffer in Batman Returns, the film may have not been as successful as the original film but Michelle Pfieffer was electrifyingly sexual. While viewing these pics of Halle Berry [or another model] in this catwoman suit I became disheartened and saddened. I am saddened because number the one instead of exhausting the original source material the legend of catwoman has seemingly been re-invented for no specific purpose. The lure of Catwoman is/was her mystique. When you design a cosutme where she is nearly nude , with her breasts falling out of her black leather bra it tells me only one thing. Catwoman, at least from what I read so far with the production woes and costume woes is shaping up to be a huge dissapointment. As aforemention this is the dumbing down of a great character to reach a wider demographic of people. It's offensive that the WB believes that to make Catwoman sexy, well, she has to plain look like a whore to sell tickets. The beauty of Michelle Pfieffer's Catwoman is that her costume covered her entire body and yet she managed to transcend it and still be every bit as mysterious and sexual as Eartha Kitt and the Catwomen before her. IT's a shame, 100 million dollars wasted on a gun that was defected during construction. I shake my head with embarassment with the 10-15 amazing lower budget independent features that could be made for that amount. This film is 'seemingly' T & A, a film that the producers feel like have to woo the audience sexually instead of taping into their intellect. What drawa people to stories about super heroes isn't just their powers and costumes but their psyche and psychosis. I'm quite surprised by Halle Berry, since her Oscar instead of doing lower budget films with substance or just films with good roles she's going the route of Cuba Gooding Jr, taking any paycheck and script thrown her way. Cuba Gooding Jr. has become a farce, an Uncle Tom, a singing, dancing yes man taking on any ridiculous script because 'he's in da big house now" I mean he's big time now. Halle Berry, like Cuba Gooding Jr's star may fade is she keeps on over extending herself and oversaturating the market with half-assed films. She is briliant, I love her work in Monster's Ball, and Losing Isaih. As someone of mixed races [black and white] myself I herald her achievements. I don't wish impending doom on Halle or Catwoman but all signs point that way. I respect PItof and his work on such films as The City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, and Alien Resurrection. It is my belief however that for a film about a truly american super hero must be made by an American or someone with a passion for the source material, not a foreigner getting his hands wet for the first time. He was thrown a bone and he took it.............................................................................................................................................................................................J.M. I have no problem with them changing details when it comes to comic book adaptations because lets face it some of these characters have a pretty confusing history but this is just pissing on the fans of the comic book and telling them they should appreciate it. It would be like Peter Jackson saying that he didn't want the LotR movies to be anything like the books. and there's also the fact that the outfit looks like something you'd see in a sleazy softcore fap poster from the 80's

    Warner's only hope...

    by johnny ahab

I seriously hope that the idiot producers and Warners' suits are reading this, and going into fix mode. This has a 99% hate rate on this site so far -- and I can only imagine loyal EW readers who don't frequent movie sites are recoiling the same way. This movie is gonna tank and tank badly. Ideally, Warners would scrap this movie (but they can't), or shunt it straight to DVD. Because they will have to pony up something like $40 million more in P&A money (prints and advertising) to get it out there for a theatrical release. If the movie only grosses $50 million, half of that goes right off the top to the exhibitors. So let's say $40M in P&A + $100M in production costs yields only $25M in theatrical return. Maybe, just maybe they'll make their money back in international, video & TV over the next 10 years. I doubt it though. They could save themselves the $40M, but they're probably locked into contracts with exhibitors that prohibit a DVD dump, so they're stuck. Option #2: they can't fix the lame-ass story and new origin, but they CAN fix the costume. It won't be cheap, but thanks to CGI, Warners could digitally clothe Halle and get her looking like the Catwoman that we all grew up with, whether it be from comics or any TV/film incarnation. Seriously, Warners, put her in a skin-tight catsuit, and she will be much sexier and you can legitimately call her "Catwoman" regardless of origin. Stick with this outfit, and she's "Cat-Ho", "Cat-Bitch", "Cat-Slut", "Cat-Victoria's Secret Model", NOT "Catwoman". But that would be too smart and rational an approach to this, and they've already exhibited they're stupidity and ignorance so far, so why even bother? Can't wait to watch this go down in flames. PLEASE PEOPLE PLEASE -- even if you love to go watch bad movies for the laugh factor, DO NOT contribute to this film's box office or gross receipts in ANY WAY! The only way Hollywood listens is when a movie tanks. People will be fired, and the system will be purged of a couple of boneheads (till the next crop slithers up the ladder to take its place). But you have the power to punish these idiots with your wallets. Do so and send a message.

...and the only hope for the entire Warners' studio.

    by johnny ahab

The only way Warners will ever produce good DC movies is when the entire regime gets shit-canned. I have some hope for the Christian Bale-Chris Nolan Batman, but remain skeptical. Here's my best case scenario: "ROTK" walks off with all the awards & Oscars. Warners installs Mark Ordesky, (the producer and Fine Line/New Line exec in their sister production company who championed Jackson and shepherded all these films through production) as their new studio head. And Ordesky finds the right filmmakers who respect the source material, as Jackson did with Tolkein, and Warners begins a superhero roll to rival Marvel's. That's one geek's dream. But rarely do things work out that way...

    by terry_1978

They have a slew of characters at their disposal, and each one of the Justice League characters on the animated series could do fine with a solo movie if someone could hook it up correctly. They need to just overhaul the entire studio and just start from scratch.

Some Q&A bits with the director. :(

    by mkwar

In issue 147 of Wizard there's a short interview with the director of Catwoman. I'm not going to type out the whole damn thing but here're a few highlights:

When asked about the continuity he said:
"...what I mean by continuity is the continuity of the character of Catwoman--who she is and how she acts...But in terms of the wordl, no, it's a different world. There is no link with Gotham City. [The film's set in] a new city, and there's no link with any other superheroes."

He also says that he loves the costume 'n' stuff.

Basically, the main thing that came from the interview is that he is completely ignoring everything from the comics and to "keep the continuity of the Catwoman character herself--her behavior, who she is--more than the world."

I'm prepared for the worst! This movie sounds rediculous and the costume is retarded, and Halle Berry is an overrated actress.

let's talk about movies from warners, and the actors that play the roles shall we. well first off i also have no clue who this pitof bitch is either, but i'm sure he was almost as horrible choice for a director of a super hero movie as ang lee. anyway, before i get off track, if you go back and look at the interviews on late night or the late show or whatever, you will see george clooney(an actor i like a lot actually) say that batman and robin is an excellent movie with a great story and cool fx. then later after all was said and done, and he was no longer under contract, he revealed hat the movie was a huge mistake and that he killed the franchise. the truth comes out eh? now we have halle (i only won an oscar for my crappy performance in monster's ball because i have a little black in me, and it was the year for all the bests to be black while also throwing a lifetime achievement award to you guessed it a black man) berry talking about how awesome and fun this shinola fest is. she knows its shit, but she is under contract to say its good. she thinks so highly of herself that she can sell anything based on her name alone. i must cry bullshit! i know that when all is said and done, she will be apologizing for deceiving her "fans" and it will all be sweapt under the warner's carpet. now i fully understand why the perfect catwoman shied away. by the perfect woman for the role, i mean ashley(God she's so hot)judd. c'mon, you know the movie is gonna be stupid when the best villain you can come up with is the head of an..giggle...evil...titter *fart*...cosmetics corporation. we'll throw in some wire-fu because in order to be the head of an evil...i can't even type it with a straight face...cosmetics corporation, you have to know how to do amazing kung-fu in slow motion. also the biggest name they could get to be a villain was sharon stone. give me fiddle fuckin break people. she hasn't done anything good since she decided to stop showing her titties in her movies. i hope she doesn't refer to this as a career revival. i can't even take writing anymore about the blatant dismissal of the entire continuity of the character. oh yeah, the costume looks like it was designed by a horde of retarded, window licking, helmet wearing, 8 year olds in the sped class drawing shit up for arts and crafts day. i hope pitof wins and oscar for this shit just to prove the absolute gaying up of the oscar process.AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Warner Bros announces its hottest movie for 2005: Wonder Woman!

    by johnny ahab

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Warner Bros. today announced that production will shortly begin on a screen version of the long-time comics superheroine icon, Wonder Woman. They've hired 17-year old directing wunderkind Junior McSlappy as helmer, fresh off his upcoming Super Bowl commercial directing debut for the new jalapeno-and-jack-cheese flavored Ritz Bits. When asked whether his inexperience with making a feature film would cause a problem, Steve O'Talentless, a Warners creative executive, said that "audiences don't really care about technical expertise or great story telling -- they just want hot pulse-pounding action action action! And man, can McSlappy deliver!" O'Talentless also confirmed the casting rumors that Paris Hilton will be playing the Amazon Princess. But rather than follow the comic book's continuity, the studio has decided to make her a customer service rep at Amazon.com. O'Talentless also confirmed that the studio would be revamping the Golden Age legend by giving her a new costume -- a silver metal push-up bar and golden thong, to reflect today's modern hip-hop culture and to take advantage of cross-promotional synergies with the makers of the WonderBra. She will no longer fly an invisible plane, but ride an invisible rocket-powered skateboard ("to capture the hot skater-boy demographic who have indicated in market research that they would like to see slutty chicks doing soaring half-pipes half-naked") and her golden lasso will be replace by exploding bolos for no apparent good reason. In addition, the new improved Wonder Woman will practice an ancient form of Grecian tit-fighting called Nipplecia and get this: she flounces! Farrah Fawcett, who plays the villian, an evil discount-hair-salon-chain owner, claims that the new Wonder Woman "is truly wondrous and reflects the ideal of the modern sexual woman as superhero. Who the f*** cares about some stupid old comic book?"

It wouldn't matter if the story, dialogue and action are great, when that costume gets on screen you won't be able to take anything about the movie seriously.

Also, is it plausible that the people who think that that costume is a good idea would get everything ELSE it takes to make a good movie right? Could they even get ANYTHING else right? Tossing out everything about Catwoman from a Catwoman movie probably gives us a clue.

BTW, I always love hearing lines like "She's in touch with her sexuality" - translation - "She doesn't mind prick teasing to get what she wants."

Does anyone remember the interview with Kevin Smith where he talked about why he dropped out of directing Superman? The marketing/merchandising people wanted to force him to write in an alien dog that Brainiac would give to Luthor as a gift and Luthor would hate it but keep it around. That wasn't the only reason, but it was the last straw.

as for story... who knows... and who cares... catwoman is not a superhero... she's a villan... she should be fighting batman. not turning tricks in the alley for some milk.

dont even bother seeing this flick, and pray that someone over at the studio gets fired for this outrage.

    enough said.

Um, no Lush, it ain't a black thing.

And it's embarrassing that you believe it is. I believe most of the problems people have with this would go away if they gave Berry a new mask. Those ears just don't look right. This is a fairly straightforward case of bad costume design, and that would be the case no matter if the suit was worn by Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Lucy Lui, Kiera Knightly or fucking Charlie Chan. How dare you come on this website and claim to know people's minds better than they do themselves? If someone's being racist, I assure you they will be met with fierce opposition. You need to ask yourself why you are so paranoid that you can't bear the thought that criticism in this case is related to something other than Ms Berry's skin colour. I guarantee your life will be beset with problems unless you deal with your paranoia.

Some more thoughts on how to do the Catwoman costume

    by barrelrider

....I disagree that they got it right with Pfeiffer. The shiny PVC just didn't let you see her curves properly, because of the way light bounced off it. Couple this with the fact that Michelle ain't exactly got many curves to start off with, and you were left with something that sounded fantastic on paper [Michelle Pfeiffer in a PVC catsuit] but looked mediocre on film. Clearly, the way to go is Lycra; it's non-reflective, and it hugs the skin much better than PVC or leather, so will never sag embarrasingly, as both Pfeiffer's and Berry's do. Go for an all in one lycra catsuit, with a chunky zip all the way down the back to the bottom of the ass crack. The mask, I admit, is difficult to get right, but they could've done a lot better than they did here.

I Don't Write Unless I Think It's Important To Send A Message To

    by charlietupperman

... I have to say that this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life. Releasing this movie could only mean embarrassment for everyone involved. It will be the Gigli of the comic book movies. I have a vision of all the producers of this movie pulling an Ashton Kutcher and going back in time (A La Butterfly Effect) to stop this movie from ever seeing the light of day. Of course, this change of the past will effect the present and they will return to see that all movie geeks have girlfriends, Harry is thin, and the Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings messageboard talkbackers have settled their differences and made up. Wait... maybe it might be a GOOD thing that all of this happens...... I've changed my mind, LONG LIVE THE CATWOMAN MOVIE!!! (I'm going to Hell for saying that)

... sometimes my gut level reaction gets the better of my rational mind. In retrospect, and in light of your 'eloquent' response, it is painfully obvious that you simply don't know any better and have not a clue as to what is appropriate and inappropriate when conducting discourse with adults on a non x-rated public forum. This is probably not your fault, so please accept my apology for the useless 'chastisement'. *** As for my Mother, I'm pretty kinky, but I've never had an Oedipal complex nor am I into necrophelia. You see, my mother died when I was a little kid... hmmm, her body was cremated... I'm not into 'ashophelia' either. *** Good luck monkeyboy, with your communication and social skills, you're going to need it.

    I stand corrected

    by junior frenger

My god!!! I stand corrected...I just saw the p[citures on the cover of EW. Strangely the cover pic does look like Halle Berry...the other pictures do not. I just couldn't fathom anybody in this day and sge could produce such a silly costume. It boggles the mind. Well on the bright side it is rather slinky and scant. Say is the 10 minute version of Brown Bunny released yet?

    New Halle Catwoman image/cleavage

    by jmtoyzilla

I've sat back quietly but now I have to contribute. All this BS about racism re: Halle Berry as Catwoman is just a handful of parents' basement dwellers trying to sound socially aware. What WB is doing with Catwoman is horrifying. I get tired of (supposed) non-geeks saying "Oh you geek crybabies want everything exactly like it is in the comics. Which is NONSENSE. The X-films and (to a lesser extent) Spider-Man were NEAR-PEREFCT amalgamations of what geeks need to get, what Joe Public will be able to sit through and-- get this-- GOOD FILMMAKING!!!
