Hey folks, Harry here... I have no doubt that yahoo bled cash to get the exclusive debut rights to the SPIDER-MAN 2 trailer... and really... it is quite a wonderful trailer, but when you come right down to it... This trailer should debut in only one format and that's FULL SCREEN QUICKTIME that can be downloaded and saved to one's harddrive so you can watch it twenty seven thousand times till the next trailer hits! In JAVA format, it sucks ass... you can't go frame by frame, you can't clearly see Doc Ock's tentacle movements and the color seems to even be a bit muted. For what it is, here it is...

Usually you don't post this stuff till the following morning...we're so touched over here. But yes, I do like the look of Doc Ock in this one, though that close-up shot had him being a little too goofy...very uncharacteristic of the good doctor. Now I just sit in anxiety for the next trailer, which I pray has at least one good bit of sarcastic Spidey dialouge that we were so promised we would get.

Half of the trailer is Spiderman swinging around NYC, we seen that alot in the last movie. And the whole Maguire-Dunst scene in the beginning is really stiff.

I thought the trailer was great...but...I didn't really like the close up on Kirsten's lips...and I didn't like the successive zoom-ins on maguire and dunst while doc ock is coming to the diner...however...these shots may make more sense in context though...
Otherwise...I think this will be another great movie by Sam Raimi...as long as Macy Gray doesn't reprise her role of crappy singer, I'll be more than happy... -

That kicked my ass to Wendys and poured a Frosty down the crack of my ass then made me EAT it.... I agree that Ock should have a German accent but right now, there's too much cum on my screen for me to even care. One last nitpick...Dunst is about 1/100th as hot as Mary Jane in the comics. They couldn't even get her hair right. She looks damn near blonde in some of those shots. Excuse me... *gets paper towel*

The Trailer was stunning, and will only be more so in Quicktime. I'm very happy to live in this time when this stuff is given it's moment to shine. If you really feel the need to pick and complain in the time of Peter Jackson and stuff like this you really are living with your face six inches from the screen 20 hours a day in your parent's basement. When you make it to Life you'll learn to enjoy these moments instead of using them to stroke what's left of you ego. Cheers

Huh? Whuzzat? Izzit over? Man, that opening scene in the coffee shop instantly brought back one of the biggest problems with the first movie. Dunst and Macguire have NO chemistry! At all! Oh well, it was nice to see Doc Ock flinging his testacles around. Can't yet make a judgment on the CGI quality (or lack thereof) but I'll keep a lookout. So far, it's looking like a must rent.

This teaser did indeed suck ass, but Doc Ock looks AWESOME! If Alfred Molina doesn't act over the top like Dafoe did, this movie be better than the first. This film probably should have been first anyway. Cheap bastards could have tweaked the costume a bit.

Maybe it's the lousy audio and video quality of the trailer, but it sounded to me like Molina didn't give Doc Ock any kind of accent. The way he said that line "Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts" was kind of plain. It reminded me of Cameron doing the George Peterson voice in "Ferris Bueller." I always imagined Ock with a menacing German voice. Also, on an unrelated note, that opening scene between Tobey and Kirsten was TERRIBLE! Where was the chemistry from the first film? The dialogue was silly, and they both looked ready to take a nap.
The rest of the trailer was pretty good, though.

Doc-Ock doesnt look like a good villian, but they improved the CGI Spider-Man. I do like the Dynamic of Doc-Ock handing Spidey over to Harry though. But, why oh why, does the dialouge at the beginning of the trailer suck so bad?

Another user already pointed out that the car was in the wrong direction for the scene whe the tire nearly scrapes Peters face off, but they also mess up by not having dummies or CGI actors underneath the car as it flips. If you look closely, while the car flips, you can cleary see that nobody is on the floor that a car supposedly flips over. You cant have a glaring error like that on a big movie theater screen. Maybe, they'll fix that before the proper movie is released.

...Although I have to agree, the acting in that opening bit was so bad I started chuckling. Especially by Dunst. She looks more stoned than Jay, Silent Bob, Cheech, Chong, Dr. Gonzo, Raoul Duke, and the entire cast of "Half-Baked" combined. Maybe Mary Jane gave up on acting and is now whoring herself for crack. Now there's a plot twist for ya. Effects look good, Doc Ock looks pretty damn bad-ass, and I'm crossing my fingers that this movie won't lick chode.

They feel like this trailer looks. The video was choppy, but I really get a kick out of the sheer gymnastics of the movements. I enjoyed the first one, cheese and all. It's a fun film that doesn't take itself TOO seriously. It did show us stuff we hadn't seen before, and that is increasingly rare these days. BTW, I love the tire discussion. It ain't a talkback til someone points out some minutia to pick apart. I rewatched the scene in question; much ado about nothing.

3rd and final post of the night. The only good thing about Danny Elfman's score for (Hulk) was the opening title theme and the closing credits theme (not the crappy rock song). Thats the best piece of music Elfman ever composed. Rousing, intriguing, and unlike the reclyced/varied stuff that he normally puts outs.

Otto Octavius is a born and raised American, according to comic continuity. The accent was a voice acting decision for the 90's animated series. So, while its plausiable that Ock could have an accent from being around his parents, its also easy to accept that he would just have a normal native New Yorker tongue.
The German name comes from his immigrant parent(s), there was an issue of Spider-Man Unlimited a few years ago that went into Ock's beginnings after he was brought back to life...
Well, off to go not have a date. -
Someone should just write a program where you enter the super hero and villain names and it creates the movie for you. Save a lot of trouble in the long run.

That's what I'm going to hear from the seat behind me as we all look up to behold Peter Parker and his Amazing Receding Hairline. Let me guess, they spent so much on SFX that they couldn't afford a decent hairpiece for the leading man. And the tire thing is annoying and obvious. Was the same attention to detail lavished upon the rest of the film?

Check out the first zoom in to Mary and Peter post-car going through room. She suddenly looks to her left. She must be stoned. Anyway, great trailer, namely on the Doc Ock parts (climbing up the wall and throwing that taxi, sweeeeeeeeet). I know it is almost a certain fact that this will be shown right before ROTK. I would love to see how many people in the audience give this movie the usual "Fanboy applause/ cheering" if it is before ROTK. Probably a considerable portion of the audience, me included.

Who knows if the story will be any good, but the CGI looks great, just like in the first film. This movie will be a great ride for sure. As far as the format, is Harry going to pay the millions and millions of $$$$s it would cost for a full-screen quality Quicktime clip to be accessed by tens of millions of people simultaneously?!?!?! Bandwidth costs money...get a clue!

Access Hollywood is going to be running the Spider-man 2 trailer Tuesday. I have a crappy dial up system, so I'm not even going to try to watch it on line, so I'll set up a video tape and snag it that way. Just have to put up with Nancy O'dell to get to it. (Could be worse I guess...It could be on Entertainment Tonight.) Thank you for your time.

First HELLBOY and then SPIDERMAN 2 ... And I have to say that the teaser kicked ass. I never saw the first film and have no disere whatsoever to do so anytime soon. I thought the Green Goblin looked pathetic and the trailers never did anything for me. But the way Dr. Ock (?) moves, that almost Gothic shot of him on top of the building ... Yup, I'm sold!

then I had to go take a piss. As I was standing at the urinal, I started thinking about this glorious trailer some more, and I just started weeping. Then my boss came in and saw me and he asked me if I just watched the Spidey 2 teaser. I said yes and then he said, me too, and he started to weep as well. OK. I thought the first movie was good, but the scenes that had the the feel of the comic were the scenes with Jameson. The dialogue was smart and humorous. The scenes in the burning house where Spiderman calls the green goblin "Gobby" didn't work well. Either that kind of dialogue just doesn't translate well, or it just came acrossed as forced.
I think the new movie looks great, even better than the first, but I hope they have found Spiderman's smart ass side and exploit it more this time. It is part of his ability just like wall crawling. When he gets behind in a fight he uses his ability to aggrivate his foe verbally to get back the advantage.
Ock looks great and the trailer is exciting, I can't wait to see it. Is it possible they are saving the title "The Amazing Spiderman" for the final installment of these films? I hope so. Criticisms aside, Sam Raimi was a great choice to direct. Overall, the first movie was an exciting translation of the comic and "2" looks to be just as good if not better. -
...But then again, since I really loved the first one, that's a good thing! Bring it on, baby! That car through the window bit looked great. I'm betting Raimi is really gonna unload this second time around, and I'm betting he'll deliver the goods. And since we're looking at trailers, WHERE THE HELL IS THE VAN HELSING TRAILER?!? I want to see Hugh Jackman kicking classic Universal monster butt!

What I don't like about this movie (yeah I haven't seen it, but I do possess amazing spidey common sense) is that it will progress Harry to the point that we'll see the Goblin return in the 3rd movie. Frankly, I'd rather see Venom, and maybe that's Jameson's son walking with MJ in that one seen....he turns into a werewolf or sumthin'. If the Harry turn is in this movie and we see a goblin in the next....make it Hobgoblin....screw comic to movie accuracy!!!

Just an FYI most geeks don't know. DC Comics actually considers the "image" of a hero "ripping open a shirt to reveal a chest symbol" to be a trademarked image inherent to SUPERMAN and, yes, in the past they used to actually send out legal cease and desist letters to anyone shown doing that -- you know, the usual lawyer "scare tactic" warning bit that says DON'T do that again. When Maguire did it in the first Spider-man, I thought "Bet DC fired off a letter over that." But seeing it here so prominently in the new trailer, I wonder if DC just gave up and stopped doing it...or if Marvel got the letter the first time around and simply crumpled it and said "Fuck you. NOW we're gonna put it in AGAIN."

i'm shocked. that actually looks pretty good(not the format...why doesn't the computer world just give up and release everything in quicktime???). none of that green power ranger goblin crap. if this trailer is anything to go by (he says with naked enthusiasm) then this should be a rather dramatic and enjoyable dark super hero movie.

rumours are flying at Columbia and Sony that a certain top line exec is pushing to have more villians in spiderman 3. said exec feels the marketing and promo sales for the first movie were disasppointing and the second film doesn't introduce enough new characters to rival star wars and lord of the rings.
One insider was quoted as saying "We've outgrossed star wars, rings and matrix but they pummelled us in overall gross because so much of their money came on the merchandise." Another insider says that sources close to the top are toying with the idea of introducing 3 new villains to compliment dr. octopus and green goblin. In many mpaa test screenings the green goblin was the character that people marked as the most interesting on-screen character and also the character they would like to see used in another film. This led in-house creative teams to come up with new characters. the characters that most impressed the execs were the 3 mutant sons of the green goblin. nose goblin, ass goblin and nob goblin. There have even been rumors surrounding the possibility of a spin off TV show concentrating on the 3 new characters to give them a back story and a bit of character development before the 3rd film. Dunst and Maguire were unvailable for comment, but raimi unaware of this new development was puzzled and quoted as saying, "doesn't surprise me. i'm always the last to find out about nob gobbling..." -

It is a quicktime file embedded in a Macromedia Flash file. It is NOT Java.
Its piss poor to slag off Java when its got nothing to do with java at all.
And another thing, stop saying in 'glorious quicktime' all the while. Theres nothing wrong with Windows Media Format (as long as its not in the streaming format), a downloadable Windows Media Video would be great, but a DivX file would be better! -

Sure this java embedded stuff sucks but there's nothing better than being able to size the quicktime window to whatever the hell size you want while conserving some semblance of good graphics. Real Player? DivX (which is good for watching movies) and all that can't compare to quicktime for its allowances to go frame by frame. Streaming sucks. And I've lost all respect for people whio trash the CGI in a film that isn't gonna be out for another like 5 months on a 300x500 pixel window. Jeez.

Yes..This trailer was probably encoded from a QuickTime movie, but it is not in QuickTime. Flash has it's own video system now and it is by far the worst video dispay in the world. It is an FLV file that is proprietary to Flash and it needs much improvement. This is not an imbedded QuickTime movie, it is a FLV. When it comes out in Quicktime it will be 300% better than this, 200% better than WMP, and 100% better thasn MPG. QuickTime rocks, I work with it all the time and this is not QuickTime. Can't wait to see the movie.

The car gag was pretty cool even though it looks like they couldn't figure out where the people are or which way the car is facing. Hopefully they'll iron that out for the film. And Ock looks pretty cool. The biggest problem is just that it looks like the plot will be the same as the first (and every other superhero movie), only without the cool origin story. Anyone else more excited about X3?

am i the first person to spot a gaffe in the new movie?? especially if you are in large mode on the teaser, you can quite clearly see the microphone moving across in the last shot of dc. oct's tentacle heading for the coffee shop, we move up to see in the shop and the boom travels across, who else can spot this????

Was anyone else completely unimpressed with this "teaser"? I've never liked Kirsten Dunst and she looks absolutely pallid in this film - and then the car effects were terrible, as are Doc Ock's tentacles. "Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts." PLEASE! Spare me the one-liners for crying out loud, at least in the teaser. And the rest were the same uninspired shots of Spidey swinging around New York. Oh well, it seems like X-2 is destined to remain the best Marvel comic book film.

This just goes to show the average age (whether it be physical or mental) of 60% of the people talking back here to be about 12. Instead of discussing the teaser you want to bash the franchise, Macs, and even Harry. Grow up. As for my comments:
1. The trailer should have definitely been in either QT or MPG format. The thing was so damn small I had to put my face to my monitor to see it and it kept stalling.
2. Since this is not a *finished* cut I'm going to assume the things I don't like won't be in the actual movie (MJ's not really red hair, Peter wearing glasses again).
3. The "superman" thing was funny in the first movie and this is a little overkill.
4. Doc Oc (from what I could see) looks great.
5. If you *didn't* like the first movie what the hell are you doing checking out a trailer for the 2nd?? I actually thought Spidey was one of the best comic to screen movies ever made (right next to Xmen and the first Superman movie)
6. If you are going to flame Macs at least know what you are talking about. Just saying "they are the worst computers. Stating a fact." only shows how ignorant you are. I've used all types of computers; Macs, PCs running Windows, Amigas, Tandy's, etc; and Macs are by far more superior in every way.

Can't Wait for this movie! Doc Ock's casting is inspired, and his look is great! I was a little disappointed with Green Goblin's look from the first movie, but it didn't ruin the movie for me. The first movie ROCKED! In this one though,Ock looks much more like he's supposed to. As for the multiple villans in the next movie, instead of picking random villans and throwing them together (*cough cough* BATMAN), why not make back to back sequals, ala matrix or LOTR, and inrtoduce venom in the first with the second having spidey and venom team up against carnage! That would freakin' rule!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I noticed the boom mic, also. That's what digital erasing in post-production is for. :)

...and it just doesn't work. Not for me, anyway. The trailer for the first film gave me goosebumps. This one just made me snicker and roll my eyes. Just another typical superhero slugfest. Sigh.

I think a previous poster said it best - "Same movie, different villian." Let's hope that there are some surprises in store because this just looks like a commercial for a Doc Ock action figure to add to your set.

I loved this trailer. Release format was unforgivable, but... Alfred Molina isn't bad or mediocre or lukewarm! He's transformed into a more-than-passable Doc Ock, he's visually perfect! Is it just me, or did Tobey Maguire look pregnant in that one cut from MJ's lips and back? I wonder if he's going to be holding legal briefs / beach balls / bouquets all through the movie... The tentacles were perfect for my eyes, as was the entire back-implant. I would have liked a few "tentacle grip crunches" visible on the thrown car, though, especially since it's new and rotates in front of the camera in slow motion and every side of it is exposed. Oh, one final note to N8hawk: it's cool if you're going to be the voice of moderation and de-internet-ification in speech, but saying "brand X is obviously vastly superior" is kinda silly and will just start up the conversation once more. There's a reason there are so many rabid fans of Macs and PCs: if you want something cheap, powerful, custom made and easy to operate, you shop around for PC-compatible components and slap Windows on there. If you want a really stable system with a custom OS, or a server, you buy the best hardware you can afford within your spending bracket and compile your own kernel and options using Linux. If you want a powerful machine out of box that's more stable that Windows, have a little extra cash, and aren't a hardcore gamer there's no reason not to buy a Mac. Macs are superior for some needs, for budget conscious little old gamer me there's no way I'm not hitting the discount sites and putting together a PC and running Windows on it. There's no argument here - people buy what fits their needs. Some go on AICN and endorse their favorite brand - well, bully to us, but let's let people decide what they want/need/consider the best on their own.

Wow, this looks good! I expect #1 at the box-office, overseas, video and dvd sales, toy sales, etc. again very shortly. My only complaints with the trailer is:
1. Didn't Peter give up his nerdish, geeky ways with the glasses. I mean at school in the first one as soon as he did that he was a tough, agile, nimbly-quick reflexed kid? I mean here he's sitting at the cafe talking to Mary Jane with his glasses on acting quirky as he did in the first one.
2. Doc Ock running around shirtless, or in a beater. Huh? I don't have a problem with the olive green/brownish trenchcoat though. I find it to be a nice touch.
All in all the movie looks destined to be great. Can't wait! This year is going to be great for superhero movies. "THE PUNISHER", "HELLBOY", "SPIDER-MAN 2" and later in the 04 year "FANTASTIC FOUR"! In the words of Stimpy "OH JOY!" -

My only real gripe with the first Spider-man movie WAS the casting of Dunst. She was just too much the girl next door who's somewhat attractive, but certainly NOT the uber-porn star hottie head-turning model that MJ was created by Stan Lee to be. I do think they missed the boat on that one, and in looking at Dunst here in the trailer she looks even more "off". Is it just me and the camera angle on the diner scene, or does her face even look wider or a bit heavier this time around than last (like she put on weight or something?) Which would not be good since she's supposed to be drop dead gorgeous and the type of girl who instantly gives you a boner (and is not simply cute.)

I do have broadband, and a fairly decent machine (P IV: 2533 Mhz, 512 MB DDR Ram, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro w/128 MB ram, etc.) so I think I can judge the format based on its quality, and be fairly sure that my computer isn't bottle necking the whole thing. Granted its probably the best format for trailers curently, I just don't crap my pants about it. But Harry's rants are entertaining...

How can anyone love or hate Quicktime that much? It's only a damn video format...although I guess I do dislike RealPlayer although I can't say I despise it. But the new Spidey trailer is very cool...the narrative may suck, but it will have some great "money shots" of Spider-man and Dock Ock battling it out. That's what I'll pay my $8 for.

Perhaps it's because Peter quits as Spider-Man during the movie - he still has his powers, but he decides to give up the superhero gig (temporarily, of course). If you notice in the trailer, there is a close-up of Peter closing his fist over something. I'm pretty sure he is crushing his glasses. He is also dressed in the same clothing from the Doc Ock coffee shop scene. So maybe Ock captures MJ, and Peter decides to go back into action. Just a guess....

Yes... thatz right. Flickering as in on a big silver screen. I saw the trailer in the previews attatched to RETURN OF THE KING today (along with an odd trailer for THE MASK 2, and a great trailer for THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT). Watching Dock Ock using his tentacles to walk and cause general mayhem on the big screen rocked! Phooey on QuickTime! This is the way they should do it EVERY time - not just in front of event movies. Though I didn't get the expected Riddick trailer - but Spidey was a great surprise!

Raimi looks like he has done it again with my childhood icon. At last, I get to see Doc Ock come to life for real in a movie of my favourite childhood character. After July next year I can die happy...or do I need to see a Spidey movie with the Sandman in? Oh bugger!
Anyway, fantastic teaser, CGI looks better than the first outing, you definitely believe a man can swing through NYC. Stan Lee should be really happy with this one. -
If anyone deserved to make Spidey movies, it was Sam Raimi. Stop being such a peen-arse.
