Tyrone Shoelaces counters with his own look at TAKING LIVES!

Hey folks, Harry here... Sorry about not catching the spoilers in that last review of TAKING LIVES, I removed them... as it was awfully rude to just put that out there like that. The below review doesn't have spoilers, and the earlier one said the audience enjoyed the film, so it sounds like Tyrone's view of the film was the more popular opinion of the film. Like I said before... D.J. Caruso did a great job on THE SALTON SEA, so there's no way I'm not going to not see TAKING LIVES! here ya go...





Hey Harry. First I want to kiss your ass a little bit and say the site rocks...been checking it for years now. So when I read Mr. Bigsby' reviews yesterday, I was compelled to get off my ass and write to you (after years of catching early previews).


Wow...does that previous reviewer, Clayton Bigsby (who reviewed TAKING LIVES and ALONG CAME POLLY), sound bitter. He bashed both of those movies pretty hard. I can't speak to POLLY, though it looks pretty damn funny, but I was at the same Sherman Oaks screening of TAKING LIVES the other night and I am not sure what movie he was watching. The movie I saw was good.


Overall the performances were solid. Jolie's performance is by far a notch above what we have seen of her lately, but Ethan Hawke stole the movie in my opinion. I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone (like Mr. Bigsby by revealing a major twist.what a tool), but I will just say this fine actor is finally doing interesting commercial roles. I thought the various twists played out and I was totally shocked by the ending. And, the opening murder is of the most brutal I have seen in a long long time. Seriously it came out of nowhere and felt like a punch in the stomach. I will let everyone experience that for themselves rather than spill the bean like Mr. Bigsby.


Mr. Bisby is right about one thing; Jolie's rack is f&%@ing amazing and the sex scene was pretty intense. But, if that is all Mr. Bigsby liked about this movie, I have one suggestion...perhaps you should get out of the house more often and maybe buy a girlfriend. Oh, and stop ruining cool plot twists for AICN readers (now who sounds bitter).


As always in these early screenings, the movie could use some additional editing and I am sure that Philip Glass' work will improve it as well. Overall, if creative peeps involved in this one keep focused; the movie will be a great addition to the serial killer thriller genre.

    He should have pruned this one, what with it being a plant. Sounds like there were a few tetchy e-mails passed between Hollywood and Texas yesterday. That said, the previous reviewer really was a joyless fuck. naked famous people are cool and make me want to see the movie, but i'm hardly going to go to a public place to see it, am i? there's a dilemma for you, mr. executive.

    was a terrible piece of shit. Seriously, how could you watch the Salton Sea and not see that its a terrible rip off of all the trendiest parts of drug addiction and crime movies, with none of the depth? That scene where Val Kilmer says in voiceover "I've hit rock bottom" or whatever it is... HOW THE FUCK IS THAT ROCK BOTTOM !! It's an average house in a nice neighbourhood, and all the so called 'low-lifes' in it look like they spend hundreds on their ultra cool post-punk-mod-wank clothes and tattoos. Rock bottom. I'm really buying it. Thanks, D.J. Caruso! Even a total legend like Vincent D'Onofrio couldn't save it.
