Capone says, 'Da Bruce in Chicago, tomorrow, with BUBBA HO-TEP!!!

Published at:  Oct 16, 2003 6:36:04 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... You folks up in Chi-town, give a hollar out to da BRUCE! Soon, he'll be on the side of Coke Cans and bags of marshmallows promoting EVIL DEAD 4 by Sam Raimi... see, just believe that. We have to hang on to that belief, it'll keep us warm. And if you see Bruce tell him to tell Raimi to make EVIL DEAD 4 and send Harry the teaser trailer for SPIDER-MAN 2 so all you folks can get screen grabs and wonderment. Meanwhile, you DETROIT readers on October 18th - Bruce will be doing the same sort of thing as Capone is stating at (Royal Oak) Main Art Theater! You have been alerted to his highness' arrival!

Hey, Harry. Capone in Chicago here with big, big news for all of you Windy City residents who have been waiting what seems like forever to see Bruce Campbell's long-delayed BUBBA HO TEP. I've noticed that Bruce has been making it a point to accompany this film to as many openings as he can in recent weeks, so I pose this question to all Chicago-area fans of Mr. Campbell: Wanna meet Bruce Campbell and see BUBBA HO TEP this Friday night?

The good folks at the Landmark Century Centre Theatre (at the corner of Clark & Diversey) are running BUBBA HO TEP on two screens for an extended run starting this Friday. Bruce will be in town opening night to introduce a couple of the screenings and do Q&As after. Your's truly will be hosting some of the screenings. (I'm not sure which ones yet, but I'll be around all night to say Hi to folks.) Here are the showtimes at which Bruce will be appearing as of right now (he may add or subtract some, but this is the most up-to-date info I have):

5:00 (Q&A after at around 6:40)

6:30 (Intro before; Q&A after at around 8:10)

7:15 (Intro before; possible Q&A after at around 9:00)

8:45 (Intro only)

Advanced tickets are on sale right now and are flying out the door. Now don't forget, the movie is playing on two screens every day for an extended run, so these are not the only times it's playing; these are just times that Bruce Campbell will be there. I saw this movie about a year and a half ago, and still remember it fondly. Ossie Davis' portrayal of JFK is sweet and priceless, and obviously I think the world about Bruce's Elvis portrayal. It's better and less campy than you might imagine. As much as I love the EVIL DEAD films, his Elvis is the best actual acting he's ever done. But don't take my word for it, and don't miss the chance to spend some quality time with Campbell and several hundred of his biggest fans. Come out this Friday to the Landmark Theatre armed with excellent and borderline insulting questions. See you there!

    I'll be there ...

    by gripman

... thing is, FYI, The Century Landmark is at the corner of Clark and Diversey (not Division) Maybe he'll shoot ED2 in Chitown. I worked on Spidey 2 in Chicago last summer (they shot on the El Train downtown) and Burton LOVES our fine city ... no Cubs jokes please, it's still to painful ... cheers and fear the hand ...

    by zerocorpse

Bruce, what's up? You're FROM Michigan! Why don't you arrange for a screening of Bubba Ho Tep in the two or three largest cities in Michigan? Come on! Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing WANT this! Come HOME Bruce, and give us BHT! You know that we never get ANYTHING cool first up here!

Well ain't this place a geographical oddity...

    by blacklist

That someone can say 'I remember seeing Bubba Ho-Tep a year and a half ago and remember it fondly' really gets to me. Bloomington, IN! Heard of it?! There's a big ten university here! Lots of college kids who love cult cinema! AArg bring the thing here already! At the very least get the DVD out the door quickly. This is getting to be absurd waiting for this movie to come out somewhere that isn't a 4 hour drive away.

    Screen grabs...

    by moratgurgeh

... just post the whole trailer for download, one of the first trailers available for the first Spidey had some very rough stuff CGI wise, the one where they showed mechanical web shooters, what I mean is they shouldn't be shy about releasing early versions of trailers etc since only geeks will see 'em so if ya get Harry show us the lot please 'coz it sounds great ...

    This Sucks...

    by funketeer

I've got tickets for the 9:30. The official web site made it sound like he'd be there for all the evening shows. BTW - I think he's scheduled to be interviewed on WGN's Nick DiGilio show tonight as well. Midnight on 720 AM. Check it out, he's a HUGE Bruce fan and LOVES Bubba HoTep. He had the director on last week.
