The New Theatrical MATRIX REVOLUTIONS Trailer Is Online!! HOLY COW!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Oh, I see the game. ROTK releases a kick-ass new trailer (at least, that’s how Harry’s description makes it sound), and MATRIX REVOLUTIONS decides to release a new trailer that is visual and idea overload, almost as if in response. And who wins?
Well, we do, of course, as an audience, because LOOK HOW FREAKIN’ COOL IT ALL IS!!
Those TV spots are the polished, cleaned-up versions of the ones that leaked online about a week and a half ago, but nothing compares to the broadband version of that Theatrical Trailer. That baby-faced machine intelligence thing. The bits of the Big Brawl. The blue sky. All those freakin' Sentinels locked in oversized mechanized fistfights with the people from Zion. This looks like one of the biggest, craziest SF rides in a long time, and I can’t wait. We have hit that point in the year where it all just gets too damn overwhelmingly cool for words, and these trailers represent our first taste of what we’re going to overdose on just as soon as we get a chance.
Just had to share before running out the door to Radiohead! See you back here for more updates later tonight!!
"Moriarty" out.

Yes, but any Vampires and werewolves in the trailer?
-
Looked like the Matrix Reloaded trailer. Hope this one is better.
-
Thank God. What with the lack of Internet-wide excitement, I was worried I had gone insane and the trailer existed only in my mind.
-
Rock and Roll.
-
Reloaded left quite a bad taste in more than a few of our mouths, so people are gonna be extremely wary about this conclusion. The trailer looks excellent, but every, and I mean every loose end concerning the matrix and its lore better be tied up in this thing to satisfy.
-
This look really cool. This might even erase the stain of Reloaded. I'm there. Thanks, Moriarity.
-
I hated "Reloaded," but this trailer looks worth the price of admission.
-
it will rule you all
-
Gee, is there going to be any more mass tribal dances? Cause that's what puts the asses in the seats, mi amigos. I wanted Reloaded to be great and I was put off by loads of it. We need a love triangle with Morpheus and Niobe and the other guy who may as well be wearing a red shirt and visiting the surface with Spock and Kirk? (thank you to Family Guy for that). Also, how DID Jada Pinkett Smith get into this movie? Will Smith has more pull than I thought because while her role as Peaches in A Low Down Dirty Shame was the touchstone for a lot of actresses (I believe Halle Berry quoted it in her Oscar speech) and her quiet dignity allowed her to hole her own opposite Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison in A Different World...she just don't belong...
That being said, the trailer looks great (although George will probably say McG would have done it better) and you can be I will be there day 1. But it now not only has to kick ass like the first, but make up for the second...it's highly possible but so much can go wrong. A nekkid Monica Bellucci would help...in so many ways.... -
This movie is gonna kick some serious ass! I'm going to die in waiting for this damn it!
-
Is it me or did the Brothers Wajcowski just create a huge Omnicron homage? That's bad ass. How many talkbackers can sing "You got the touch" or whatever that song was titled in Transformers? I bet the answer is most.
-
Of Reloaded Hating Bitches gonna eat their words now BWAHAHAHA.
O1 MACHINE TO NEO : SPEAK!! -
ZION will be Destroyed! That will be the end to the one of the greatest trilogies of all time. with a handful of survivors of course.
-
Finally! I see that it took Moriarty to finally post a damn Revolutions talkback! You know Harry is loving this trailer and the only reason he didn't post his thoughts is because he doesn't want to seem like he's jumping on the bandwagon after dissing (repeatedly) Matrix Reloaded. Matrix Revolutions will complete the greatest trilogy ever put to film. Oh, and for those of you who shit on the Matrix trilogy after Reloaded and are now jumping on the Revolutions bandwagon after seeing the trailer - FUCK YOU!
-
was that Omnicron from the TRANSFORMERS movie? Ah, who cares, no one will read this post.
-
I believe you're talking about UNICRON there. :) I'm sure that machine won't eat any planets.

Really, why don't people respect him down there? He's got a point when he says Zion needs every ship available. And seeing how Zion's been destoyed what 5 times already, it'll only go to show that people should've listened to the old coot.
-
ok...this coming from a big Matrix fanatic like myself may not come as news. but the trailer is a total relief from what i thought it would be. I loved reloaded but there are alot of people who don't. And when i watched it the fourth time at my local IMAX theatre i loved even more. HOwever i did notice the flaws which caused everyone including my self to put it down in comparison and hype the first one made. THe plot in Reloaded was somewhat thin and confusing. There where too many holes in it for people too fully understand it. After seeing it, i knew Revolutions would have a great deal to do in order the fill in holes. Judging from the trailer the plot will be alot better and satisfying.
-
The Reloaded trailer also made me blow a big load on my computer table, but the film itself left me half limp. We'll see....
-

I really enjoyed 'The Matrix-Reloaded'. I don't understand why so many didn't like it.
This new trailer for 'Revolutions' just completely rocks.
The Wachowski bros are something else aint they. -
A lot of idiots on this board. You prejudgmental pricks dissing Reloaded - why don't you wait to see the full story conclude before wetting your diapers. For the love of all things holy, if I have to listen/read how everyone hated Reloaded AGAIN, all the way up the Revolutions opening, I'm going to grow a reverse oyster beard. Even Harry stopped complaining, so get a clue. When Revolutions owns you, all of you will be scratching your enormously thick foreheads and saying "now I get it!" And I will be there to rub your hypocrisy in your face. Retards.

I still shudder when I think about seeing Radiohead on HT3 tour. (Blossom Music Center, August 21st, Pavillion seats) I don't want to go off on a hyperbolothon, so I'll just say that it was the second best concert I've ever seen. (I'd mention the first, but then I'd lose credibility with some of you pretentious fucks...oh Hell, STP on the "Tiny Music" tour, Dec. '96 at the CSU Convo Center, GA floor tickets, final show of the tour right before Christmas, complete with Santa's and 'Santa's Helpers' throwing out candy and a Christmas decorated acoustic interlude. It was also the last show they did before Scott got busted for heorin possession, thus giving the world the "Talk Show" CD. There, credibility shot.) Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how few frat choads and mallrats will be at "Revolutions" opening night, since the only thing to do in a year when there's no Prequel to bash is, well, bash the franchise that effectively replaced it. No matter how much of a payoff this film may be, I can't see how it doesn't end without Neo dying "to save us". And if you know if I'm right or not, DON'T TELL ME. Those of you also clueless, feel free to speculate and correlate with Biblical subtexts. "It's the Devil's way now...there is no way out...you can scream if you'd like...it is too late now...because...YOU HAVE NOT BEEN, PAYING ATTENTION..."
-
Hasn't anyone else noticed that several bits of this trailer correspond with that *supposedly* fake scriptment running across the net?
"You never believed in the One."
"I still don't. I believe in him."
That's straight out of that treatment. -
you're so cool.
-
Nah, just kidding.
I had a lukewarm reaction to RELOADED, and I'll probably go see this, for closure's sake at least. Looks good, but not like anything I haven't seen before. -
Or have they all been Smithed? It looked like all the windows of all the office buildings were packed with more Smiths. So what happens to the humans (the real ones back ineir pods) when they get taken over? Are they dead? Brain dead? Do they Wake up? I'd like to know. In any case, this movie looks like it will have what was really missing from Reloaded - lots and lots of bullets flying and shell casings lying in three foot deep piles everywhere.
-
How far does this story line have to deviate from the first Matrix to maintain its fanbase and plausibility?!?! The "desert of the real" or whatever it is looks more like the desert of the fucking fake CGI bullshit...QT is right CGI has fucked up movies FOREVER!! There'd better be some pretty damned good writing for this one if the Wachowskis are gonna save this stinker. Why can't film makers stay on the same level as their original stories...no they gotta do shit BIGGER and BETTER...10 times the effects...100 times the budget...for what?! To compromise storyline?! Fuck Revolutions...I'm stickin' to comic books...that's one medium that sticks to its guns (aside from crossovers and retarded foil covers). Like I've said before, I'm gonna have an orgy on October 10 when the REAL films come out: Kill Bill and Intolerable Cruelty. Revolutions will get my money, but only until it gets to the budget cinema screen my friends. I'm not about to give the Wachowskis and WB my $8.00 first run cash for what looks like a pretentious half assed "oh look, we're cool because we're trying to squeeze the life out of our C+ philosophy education/ridiculous special effects budget." You want action and philosophy, go read Kant or Plato while your roommate watches Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I'd leave first run Revolutions to the machines...let 'em have Neo.

by microwavable?
i liked reloaded a bit. to be honest, i appreciated the spirituality and mystery of it far more than the action itself. but what made me smile with the most joy in reloaded? THE ORACLE. in the first two movies, she adds this tiny bit of humanity that almost balances out the over-the-top sci-fi bits of the movie. i wish there was more of her in reloaded - but her lines about candy were absolute gold. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW THEY'RE HANDLING THE ROLE OF THE ORACLE IN THIS ONE? i sure loved that actress (everyone knows she passed on between these). i think i heard a voice similar to hers in this trailer (but quite obviously NOT her). are they going to do a simple replacement deal (a la Aunt Vivian in 'the fresh prince of bel-ar'), or are they going to evolve her character somehow but replace her with another voice actress? it just won't be the same, i tell you. but i just love endings, and after this winter i'm going to have fantasy movie withdrawl, something even the last star wars won't help.

Microwavable?. The oracle had the termination code for her previous "shell" sold to the Merovingian and that explains the new actress who replaces the one in the first 2 films.

Jocutus--What it looks like to me, EVERYBODY's been Smithed...btw, in case you havent caught the theory yet, there's a shot in this trailer of agents surrounding someone sitting in a chair while cups float around the room.....supposedly, that's a shitload of Smiths, attempting to (dunno if they'll succeed or not) "infect" the Oracle.....still love that concept, btw....all that talk of humanity being nothing more than a virus, and Smith's become one....irony on a base level, but good irony, nonetheless...
Microwaveable--This is one of those things that made the game a must-play for Matrix fans....of course we know the actress switch was made because of Gloria Foster passing away (she'll be missed....her character just plain owned...), but in the context of the film, it's because the Merovingian has been on a retaliation spree after the Oracle told Neo where the Keymaker was...hence what he meant when he said "her time is up".....as a result, the Oracle changed her appearance entirely, and now jumps from location to location on a much more frequent basis...as for her demeanor, well, she's still pretty quick witted when necessary, but at the point in which you meet her in the game, she already knows the end is coming, for either humanity, or the Matrix itself(which pretty much means the end for her as well), not to mention, it seems she's not very happy with having to give up her old visage....hence, she's performed quite a bit more somber than Gloria Foster did it....and of course, the events are a lot darker this time around, so, dont expect too much on the smirking wit factor....Revolution(s) is my name.... -
jumped the shark in a style that's remarkably similar to way "Highlander" went off the deep end.
-
you make a good point...but maybe this installment will be bigger AND better, in terms of story....one can only hope, especially after the huge letdown that was Reloaded. I also don't like how the W brothers named the 2 big fight scenes in Matrix 2 and 3, the "BIG BRAWL" and the "BURLY BRAWL" or whatever...liek they expected it to go down in fight scene history...PLEASE, the courtyard fight was so uninspired, Neo fighting the little chinese man was boring AND pointless....sorry...i didn't notice i was complaining...either way, i'm gonna have to check out Revolutions as soon as it comes out
-
Whiners complaining about CGI are the dumbest mofos on the talkback. You realize that movies are fake to begin with? The fact that a movie uses CGI is completely irrelevant. CGI is no different than cutting out styrofoam to make a backdrop.

Yep, I was one of the people who didn't like Matrix: Reloaded. Went in expecting something half as mindblowing as the Matrix, came out realizing the only thing I actually would have paid money to see came in the last 15 minutes. That having been said -- it's because those last 15 minutes kicked so much ass that I'll be plopping down my ticket money to see Revolutions when it comes out. Just don't talk to me about the other 123.

by jefferylebowski
It completely invalidates the original. If Part 2 had simply been a big letdown (which it was) I wouldn't have been half as bothered as I was by the fact that it suggests that all of the events in the classic first film are completely irrevlevant. I wish it hadn't been made.
-
reloaded was bad ass. i coulda done with out the big dance scene but oh well. what are you going to do? fucking cry about it everytime someone mentions the matrix? oh wait, all you fucking morons already do. maybe if you guys weren't busy hanging off of harry's balls and grabbing for his dick you might be able to tell a good movie when you see one.
-
I even think Reloaded and The Matrix are equals only to be blown out the water by Revolutions.
But for those dissappointed with Reloaded I have someone you can blame. Blame that greedy fuker Joel Silver and people at WB who might have interfered with the Wach Bros true vision that might have satisfied everybody. -
Ebert's reviews are spot on. These movies aren't deep. They aren't philosophical. They're just action movies with entire portions of dialog that labor to sound deep or philosphical. A few (actually really few and far-between) original ideas have been fluffed up with big words and endlessly redundant monologues to give an average teenager the effect that what they're seeing and hearing is really profound. If you think Matrix is profound, kids, we're not trying to stop you or hinder your enjoyment... just keep it down. Talking these movies up to be something they're not may just make you look a little naive to anybody who's already gotten their Intro to Philosophy lesson at school.
-
Yes, yes, it did suck, or at the very least, disappoint and stray faaar from the quality of film that the first one was.
But.................................
all that we can do now is wait, and hope for the best. if pt. 3 sucks....that would really suck
-
the deal with the Oracle was nagging at me - thanks for clearing it up. i know i'm not alone when i say i HATE it when movies replace actors for a single character. i'm still a little disappointed Eddie Furlong is a druggie or something and couldn't be in T3. oh well.
-
I checked out a sneak peak of Kill Bill in Vegas...guys, it's not that good. It's OKAY at best. The Matrix, I believe, will be far superior.
-
Okay. The Matrix Revolutions theatrical trailer...this is what I've come up with after watching it for an hour straight, dissecting each frame, magnifying each pixel...
--In the beginning of the trailer when Neo is making a deal with the ROBOT KING (!!!!), I'm not sure I see a plug on his neck.
--When the naughty tentacle plug goes into blind-folded Neo (?!), there's DEFINITELY no plug. (Wait a fucking minute--is this just BAD CONTINUITY?!)
--It says "Mobil Ave" in the white subway station?
--Looks like the dude that decks Neo (and Keanu's body double) is the BUM from "Enter the Matrix."
--Okay, I don't think Human Smith just when scatalogical on Neo--I think it's color correction courtesy of the MPAA!
--Are those Smiths in the Oracle's crib?
--I was hoping Neo would go DBZ in "Reloaded." All I had to do was wait for "Revolutions!"
--That shot where blind-folded Neo is makin' the Sentinels expode somethin' fierce--them's blood on Neo's eyes!
--A Sentinel ghost goes INSIDE Neo, phasing, not unlike The Twins??
--The shot in the end that takes place in The Matrix with the two Smiths standing over that glowing thing--I figure that's the Oracle. But which one? Oracle 1 or 2?
-
It's the lack of imagination, and the unwillingness to invest the time in constructing, producing, and post producing movies. CGI is just a tool, and like any other, it can be abused, and used without much grace or creativity. My standard position here is this: It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. To be more specific, I think people should think of ways to use CGI more imaginatively in movies. Look at the movie Amelie if you want a good example of this.
-
I saw the trailer during Friends, and I gotta say, it looked like the same shit from before. It's looks soooooo stupid. I'll go see it with the blind hope that the movie will not suck as bad as Reloaded. It's all about Kill Bill and Return of the King! We won't see Matrix winning shit at the Oscars I can guarantee that!

If you're over 16 years old and still geeking out over how "deep" and "kickass" the Matrix movies are, you need to get out more. That trailer was just more of the same old bullshit, with lame dialogue and a lot of borrowing. The Matrix is bad fiction for dull mooks who wouldn't know good science fiction if Phillip K. Dick, William Gibson, and Ray Bradbury all pointed to it and said "Look! Good science fiction!" I can't understand how you guys can be so into a movie that has absolutely NO heart and NO soul. It's just a bunch of ripped-off scenes, bad wire-fu, overdone cyberpunk imagery, and millenia-old "philosophy" tied together with a limp plot and lots of PVC. Jeez. Read "Neuromancer" while doing a little LSD and listening to Pink Floyd and you'll get the same effect.

by rcamacho2278
what makes you guys think kill bill will be the karate action that will blow away the matrix? Kill bill is being so severely hyped. When harry bitched that he felt neo was fighting the agents or in the balcony scene and we all felt no real sense of danger because neo could do whatever he wants, I ask you, how much will you enjoy seeing uma thurman slice up baddies knowing that she simply will NOT die?? hipocrites...
you cry that the matrix is not deep and profound. how deep and profound will kill bill be in a simple revenge tale with a few twists here and there.
there will always be better action out there, but matrix was'nt only about action. It was an idea, a world fully realized. Not many movies have done that. -

I quote from one of your own. I need not say more. This blurb has explained quite well why anyone with any life experience at all would hate The Matrix. I understand why you like it- It's all the worst elements of crappy anime but in live action. All you need is for neo to change his hairstyle to something spiky, and then have the Wachowskis draw in some "motion lines" while people assume a pose but don't actually move, and you'd have the anime formula down. Strangely, Keanu already has the Big Eyes Small Mouth thing going for him...
-
Shouldn't have read the trailer description though. That kind of spoiled it for me. If there was anything though, that disappointed me in the trailer, it was that they didn't use that track, which played on the international trailer. This one was too action-ish.

If you care to see a spoiler pay attention to the background of the shot of the ship diving towards the ground near the end of the trailer... what is that I SEE... HMMM...

Well...it sure looks like a lot of eye-candy is going to be popping off the screens this fall!
One amusing thing that the W Bros are doing that I like is showing their pulp roots with all these visual nods to sci-fi-scholck fun of the past...The "Aliens" powers loaders on speed, the "Tron" esque talking head, the "Logan's Run-ish young society (Benniton-ized for PC correctness of course). I don't mean these as slams...one of my guilty pleasures is watching fun, punchy, visual overload, psuedo-high-ideal sci-scholck and this looks like it fits the bill... -
Wow, they just really took this story to a place I don't care about.

Oh wow, a cool Matrix trailer. Like that proves anything.
by jules windex
Last time I checked, Reloaded had a really tantalizing teaser trailer, then a really exciting regular trailer...and the film was a disaster, no matter what the Wachowski kissasses keep insisting. Now, Revolutions is bound to be better, but I've really grown tired of these Reloaded defenders calling the film deep and complex. Unless you're 5 years old, I don't understand how any scene in the film is hard to figure out. It was a VERY simplistic and superficial film. And as Jeffrey Lebowski(aka the due) said, it made the original film meaningless.

I'm looking forward to Kill Bill. Ha! Ooooookay, seriously, I'm stoked about all of 'em. And ROTK, which, if I played games of chance, I'd bet heavily on for Best Picture come Oscar time Feb. 29, 2004. IMHO that last Matrix trailer gave too much away. Part of me wants that trailer to be a Wachowski hoax.
-
I love when people use lack of intelligence as a reason for why someone doesn't like a movie.
The Matrix Reloaded was about as intelligent as a filmmaker who decides to abandon ingenuity and creativity in exchange for video game tie-ins, self indulgence, uninspired action, bad special effects ( ie. cg Neo ), and characters who wear freakin' sunglasses when they're supposed to be fighting....gee, you think maybe it might help in fighting a zillion people by taking off those designer sunglasses.
Course that's just my opinion......strange how we all have opinions on things.
-
The trailer did look great, but then again so did the Reloaded trailer. I hate people who keep saying all Reloaded haters have to eat their words after seeing this trailer, because IT'S JUST A FUCKING TRAILER! 99% of all movies have better trailers than the movie itself. That's what they're designed to do: look cool and attract your money. Whether or not Revolutions turns out to be great, it will never change my mind on the fact that Reloaded sucked hairy balls. Also, why in the hell would any city build giant walking mechs to protect themselves? How are they any more useful than a tank or even a fucking gun turrent?
-
i dunno about you guys but my favorite scene in reloaded was the dance orgy, i got to see my favorite characters bump and grind and have intercourse, i hope we get to see more of that in revolutions -cheers!
-
When did The Matrix series turn into a Tron clone? Why is the MCP in this trailer???
-
I was just thinking about how this has been a fantastic run of movies the past several years. We have been given the gift of a full-on lavish lord of the rings trilogy that (relatively speaking) has done very little wrong in the eyes of so many. The horror of what has become of everyone's favorite trilogy (now sextet, I guess) was softened by the blow of a new mythology. Regardless of how you feel about the new matrices, the original stands as an almost flawless piece of charismatic action-cinema. C'mon, that movie just owns and you know it. I remember that early scene in the matrix where trinity leaps the rooftop and the agent follows suit, lands on one bent knee and the camera just kinda holds that pose for a beat. I remember wriggling down into my seat a little more and thinking, "I have no idea what's going on, but this is gonna be sweet.". Thinking about this stuff makes me a little sad that after Dec. 17th, I will essentially have nothing looming on the radar to look forward to, and as all us AICNers know, looking forward to stuff is half, no, three-quarters of the fun. Take the time to enjoy this last fiscal quarter, savor it, wallow in it, enjoy the discussion, arguments, flame-wars and anticipation because the wasteland of 2004 awaits...
-
EVEN I MUST ADMIT REVOLUTIONS WILL DECIMATE MOST OF YOU PATHETIC MAGGOTS, BUT RETURN OF THE KING WILL OWN. I HAPPENED TO LIKE BOTH RELOADED AND TWO TOWERS, SO TO THE PEOPLE WHO HATED BOTH THOSE SEQUELS, FUCK YOU, DIE, THEN GO TO HELL, THEN DIE AGAIN, THEN EAT SHIT.

I'm sick and tired of reading how some PG fantasy films of 20 years ago, whose two recent sequels invoke nauseating bad scripts and plotlines, compares to the Matrix Triology, or, for that matter, the Lord of the Rings Triology. These two have each eclipsed anything Lucas has done. He can take the highest networth of Hollywood directors, earned from your innane love of his work, and shove it.

Boy, do I feel sorry for those poor slobs who can only afford to go to one movie. I plan to have a great time at ALL the new flicks!

Just to give you guys an idea of where I'm coming from, I really didn't like Reloaded when it came out -- it seemed a little hollow. And of course, I hated the rave scene and the orgasmic pie thing, just two things that were kept in for what reason I don't know; it sure wasn't for pacing. But after seeing Reloaded again recently, it's pretty damn good. I think that the biggest problem with it was that most people expected the same kind of fresh feeling that they got from the first movie, and that of course, is impossible. You'd think that after Episode I, we'd have learned our lesson. And speaking of SW, let me just say that there's a pretty sizable chunk of my being that agrees with QT about the use of CG in the movies. It's become the only reason that some movies exist. Episode II is a perfect example. Watched it twice in the theaters, rated it just below Empire (my rating was V, II, IV, VI, I at that point). But then something very strange happened. When the DVD came out, I realized that the story was very uninteresting, never mind the fact that the dialogue was horrible. I just skipped to the last 30 minutes. Now this just proves QT's point, somewhat. CG is supposed to be a tool to help tell a story, just like matte paintings, models, and any and all props you can think of. The problem is when the movie is all about the CG, models, or whatever, there is no story -- that's why the movies that people keep going back to are the ones that keep a story going. The LOTR movies, except for some strong exceptions, utilize CG in a way that doesn't distract from the storytelling. That's the most important thing, kids -- the story. Sure, this new trailer shows us a lot of flashy visuals, but for this (and every) movie, the story must rock. So I guess that's it. That's okay, though, since no one really reads the Idiot's comments anyway...
-
You weirdo Matrix obsessive fucks. What about the Godfather huh? Did you just ignore Lord of the Rings? How about Indiana Jones and Back to the future...or even Jurassic Park???
The Matrix is NOT one of the greatest trilogies of all time. They are just good, fun action films which sadly are coated in a shroud of pretention that makes wanky teenagers think they are some sort of philosophy lesson.
Oh, and Keanu can't act. -
maybe the first film, but it still sucked. JP and TLW were great books, but all the movies thusfar have blown. the thing is, i saw the RotK trailer on thursday(i work at a cinema), and it looked good ok. but i didn't feel the power of it, the way i did with the Revolutions trailer. i'm a big matrix fan, and i understand that a lot of people don't get why there's the fan base for the film. people fear what they don't understand, and in that fear, scomes the hate and disrespect for the feared object. Reloaded was your object, and because you didn't understand it, you hate it. everyone's already seen the end of the trilogy. it comes at the end of the first film.

THE MATRIX trilogy will be NOTHING in20 years from now!
by dart voldemort
MATRIX RELOADED was a piece of shit. I really hope, that REVOLUTIONS turns out to bee a cool movie. BUT in 20 years from now people will still love STAR WARS and will still adore LOTR. But MATRIX?
Come on, wo needed that love triangle between Morpheus, Niobe and that other guy? And who wanted wo know about that idiot called Link and the worries of his girl-friend? And who wanted to see religious idiots performing some kind of tribal dance? If the brothers cut about 30 minutes out of RELOADED the movie might be much better. The MATRIX trilogy will be forgotten, because whereas STAR WARS had TESB and LOTR had TTT, MATRIX only has reloaded. -
I loved the matrix, I thought reloaded was pretty God-awful but that doesn't mean that revolutions won't rock.
I've read so many people here going "you slagged off reloaded but here comes revolutions and your going to eat your words fuckers!"
er, what ?
Why the hell can't we enjoy one and three of a trilogy and think the second one sucks? I know its rare for trilogies to follow this pattern but there is no reason it can't happen.
For similar reasons TPM and AOTC were in my opinion pretty bad, that doesn't mean the third film will be.
It seems that a few of you have become whores to the franchise rather than appreciating the merits of the films. You loved reloaded ? guess what, revolutions might stink so bad you never want to see any of the films again. You hated reloaded ? who cares revolutions may well be the best movie you ever saw. Stop being brainwashed by the marketing into believing that you have to have some sort of misguided loyalty to these cash cows and appreciate the individual films.
Some of you people are worse than school kids bitching about who's got the best brand of trainers. -
I'm in.

...theyre pretty much one of the most intelligent things someone's said on this board yet.... Although, just to chime in as far as Star Wars goes, I do that same fast forwarding thing with Return of the Jedi ....Ewoks be damned, bring me more Luke vs Vader/Palpatine.....AOTC, I just fast forward whenever Jar Jar's on screen....I still maintain Anakin's childish romantic bullshit is a character flaw done on purpose....but, since this is a Matrix board, i wont go into that :-)
-
You know it, I know it.
-
After being completely underwhelmed by Reloaded, I went back and saw the first Matrix, and while it's a good action film, it has a lot of flaws. I hate feeling cheated as an audience member, so when the Oracle tells Neo that he has to choose between Morpheus and himself, and they both end up surviving, I get pissed off. And as I remember, the big question concerning a sequel to the Matrix was how they would deal with Neo's superpowers, which they simply chose to ignore in many scenes. I think I might just skip this third one.
-
I don't get people sometimes. They say that the matrix is'nt an intellectual film, yet they cannot grasp fundamental ideas of what reloaded of revolutions is all about. I am speaking mostly about harry's review of matrix reloaded and his own pretentious ideas of what matrix reloaded "could" have been and what he conjured up in his own imagination rather than giving credit for what the film offered at hand. This hipocrisy is only shown later on when he mentioned he "even loved some things about reloaded" yet never mentioned these things in his original review. He simply ranted and raved how he felt the wachowski's never fully explored their own set ups.
So they gave neo superhero type powers in the end of the matrix, so now you find the fight scenes in matrix reloaded boring because you expect him to simply fly through agents destroying code? many of you considered this a lazy writers way of ignoring or escaping the set up of the first film. some of these people are the same people who felt the action in the hulk was too "superheroish"
The matrix was never about ridiculous non-stop action, I feel that kill bill will have SO much kung fu action that after the first 30 minutes you'll be numb from it all and not even care the next time a head gets chopped off or some guy gets split in half.
There are far worse films to criticize, like the star wars films, or cabin fever that POS movie that was hyped by peter jackson and harry himself only to reveal one of the most ridiculous and boring horror movies to date.
people are bitching about a small tribal dance that lasted 2 minutes out of an entire 2 hour movie really need to calm down. They should really be complaining why it takes 20 minutes for a movie to start with commercials and trailers instead of a small scene they just cant get over. -
the game of golf will never be the same
-
But I like him more now!
-
Wasn't this reaction similar to the one when the Reloaded trailer was released? I geeked out over it and then was left disappointed (Note - I still went to see it again, and I will still be seeing Revolutions). I'm just saying before anyone starts saying one film will be better than another, why not wait until you've actually *seen* all the movies you're comparing?
-
It's not that I hate the Matrix. I love the first movie. I think the first one is a brilliant piece of filmmaking. I hated the second and the third looks like it's more of the same shit. Return of the King will beat out anything it goes up against at he Oscars. If it measures up to the first two, then we have the greatest trilogy to hit the screen SINCE (not better than, you psycho fucks)the original Star Wars trilogy. As far as Kill Bill, the only thing it will be nomintated for is make up effects, and editing. Releasing it in two parts is the kiss of death for this movie becasue it will not qualify for best picture. And no, idiots, the movie is not all wall-to-wall kung fu. You will not be desensetized by the first 30 minutes of the movie. I have seen it and it was great.

Oh, ROTK will rock hard too!!! -
Kill bill will own at the Box Office. Please remember that the movie will come out in two short weeks. Also, I'm not expecting it to win Best Picture. it's an homage to the exploitation flicks from the 60s and 70s. Of course it's gonna be violent. Of course it has a lot of action. It an exploitation flick it's SUPPOSED TO!

I think BOTH Matrix3 and LOTR3 will be hits, the REAL battle is
by drath
These two movies look great, this "my dad can beat up your dad" jeuvenile bullshit is just a sign of the average geek maturity level. I'm more interested in seeing which one wins at the Oscars. Both beat ILM's Star Wars prequel efforts, but which one will put the eye-popping effects to better use? If Revolutions is like Reloaded, and ROTK is like Two Towers, the award will go to WETA easily. If ROTK is Jackson's Phantom Menace, the Warchowskis will win. But what if they both are a knock out (note, I care not to entertain the thought that both might suck)? Will it be a tie? Or will they both be considered gratuitous and indulgent so that a third contender can swoop in and take the statue from them? Really, that's the only battle here. And the winner, as Mori says, is US for getting two goddamn cool looking movie trilogy cappers in one glorious holiday season. If you have to waste that by fighting over which is better, you need to go back to school until you've grown up.
-
The Reloaded trailer was full of absolutely incredible shots which turned out to be the only good ones in the movie. This time they couldn't even scrap together enough good shots for the trailer. The Aliens suits? How orginal! Oh, Neo is going to fly? Oh goody! the talking planet from Transformers? Yippie! Trinity is sill wearing a garbage bag? Woah! Morpheus still looks like he on the drink? Lovely. Jada PS? Hurrah! More effects stolen from SW and Terminator movies? Just zippy. People comforting each other in Zion! AWWWWWWW! WHAT A GIANT BAG OF CRAP!
-
I think some of you are too young to remember how movies looked in the eighties. Too young to remember Star Wars as it was, dwarfed by its younger siblings. Too young to appreciate just how clumsy optical effects look. And all this crap about what trilogy owns whose. It's bullshit. It act like one kind of film has to beat out the other. You know what? Most people don't care. They just want to be entertained, and if it's Neo that does it and not Anakin, Frodo and not Morpheus, or Obi-Wan Kenobi instead of Gandalf the Grey, it's of no matter. All this frippery about what trilogy is best is just a bunch of pretentious dick-waving.
-
. . . but the Reloaded trailer looked good too. We better get some serious closure w/ this 3rd one. Look how far the story developed from the beginning of part 1 to the end. Then in part 2 we get a few scenes of boring babble in between drawn out action scenes; no further development of the story or characters. The credibility of this trilogy depends on part 3. I also want to comment on how damn hip Zion is. First they rave in spite of oncoming invasion & now their Robotech/Aliens mechanical suits hold their guns sideways gangsta' style. Break'em off some, break'em off some!!!!

by weedymcsmokey
Fuck me. That looked pretty cool. Of course, I liked Reloaded. That's right, I'm the guy.
-
Have I gleaned correctly from these trailers and TV spots? The enemy is no longer the machines who have enslaved Man in the Matrix, it's Smith? And Neo negotiates with the machines some deal that hinges on him taking out Smith, their common enemy? The Oracle talking about the end of "both worlds"? WHAT both worlds!? Like we're supposed to give a shit about The Matrix remaining viable!? I thought that was the POINT of these fucking movies, to rip down the Matrix, free humanity from slavery. But, nope, looks so far like Zion gets a reprieve from slaughter via some back-door deal, and the Matrix will remain a habitat for comatose humans and rogue programs. Not entirely conjecture, here's some SPOILER I picked up. Go check out the official site for the damn online Matrix game the Ws have planned for next year. Spills a whole lot of revelatory stuff, as it takes place "after the events of Revolutions." The biggest concession being, the game takes place entirely in the Matrix (players get to pick "Vogue-style" costumes! Whee!). So, a to b to c, hence, and ergo, after Revolutions, The Matrix is still up and operational. Sorry humanity! Enjoy that slavery, ya copper-tops!
-
and oh yeh Revolutions is going to be great. I don't see why everyone hated Reloaded so much. It had its problems but I enjoyed it all three times I went to see it.
-
...because I loved-I mean LOVED, Reloaded. Every time I watch it I wonder what everybody else is missing. I guess it makes me stupid or uncool or something, but I loved it. Most people who were disappointed wanted some more profound experience. It's a movie, guys. A movie. And in my opinion, a good one. It has overdone, awkward moments in dialogue, acting, story, and everything, but for crying out loud, the first movie had those problems! If you didn't like it, fine, I don't careI'm not going to tell you you should. At least the Matrix has some level of originality, Kill Bill looks like something I could recreate with a bunch of old fung fu movies, charlies angels episodes, and editing equipment. I'll still see it, it looks fun, but come on people, "it will own the box office?" Most people I know, not the kind of people who come to this website and eagerly await every new movie (like I do), but just wait to see commercials on TV and if they have time that weekend, go see something, it doesn't matter to much what it is, they've hardly even heard of Kill Bill and think it looks dumb if they have, it appeals to a somewhat limited audience, (As extremely loyal as that audience is) while most people will recognize the Matrix name and go to it instead. That doesn't mean it's a better movie, just that it will make more money. And ROTK will make more than either of them! EVERYONE I know is dying to see it! Don't let your excitement blind you to reality, you don't have to justify your opinions.
-
I like th ematrix movies but they'd be alot better if somebody else played neo.

... If you don't like CG what would you like instead? Stop motion? spaceships on wires? hack and slash optical effects that take forever and are more expensive than CG?

The first Matrix did NOT have any of those problems. That's why I felt part 2 was so disappointing. If action & FX were all I needed I would feel differently. DAMN, I want so bad to like part 3. My fingers are crossed.
-
of not just sucking, but making The Matrix retoactively suck! I loved the first movie but the viewing experience has been forever tainted by the BS in Reloaded. Another poster nailed it: who gives a fuck about Link getting his balls busted at home by some nubian goddess who couldn't act worth shit? Who cares about "The Kid (tm)" or Morp's tired love life? I won't even get into the rave cuz I already have a full plate of things to bash. Okay geeks, just keep saying there is no spoon as it's repeatedly thrust up your ass!!!
-
Where did the scene by scene description of the trailer go?
-
I was a fan of the first Matrix, I thought the second was fun to look at it but that was about it. This trailer gives me the impression that this may be a movie that really gets it right.
-
Okay, not to get suckered in by a good trailer but ... oh dammit, here I go. So, from what I can gather, after having himself messed up killing that sentinel in the real world, Neo gets into a scrape, presumably with the real world Smith, in which his eyes are damaged. But he's managed to suss out how to get away with killing more sentinels without getting a headache, so the Nebuchenezzar takes off with Neo onboard, to get into a series off wacky adventures involving psychic and pyrokinetic Neo taking out hundreds of sentinels, clearing a path to the 'control hub' or whatever, at which point Neo sacrifices himself to take it out for the sake of high drama, and saves the planet. Somehow everyone wakes up safe from their pink little beds too. But haven't sussed exactly how yet. Oh well. Not that I care or anything, as yes, Reloaded WAS the largest let down since Korn's second album. Oh, and not to pick any nits, but 'Aargorneo007', I think Quentin Tarantino MAY have seen Fist of Legend. I doubt he waited to see the Matrix before realising Yuen Wo Ping is the best fight choreographer we've seen, being the number one Eastern martial arts fan he is. Cheers!

Actually MAgga, about NEO choosing morpheus' life or his own, they both did NOT survive, if you actually paid attention, when the oracle said neo wasn't the one, and he had the gift, she said he was waiting for something, his next life. WELL, neo chooses to save morpheus and give up his own life, when agent smith shoots him. NEO DOES infact die, however is ressurected as THE ONE, in his new life, as the oracle said.
-
Yeah, Moriarty is a complete wanker. I'm convinced now. All Matrix fans are sad and gay.
-
Reloaded was OK, but I found it missing "something." I loved the first movie, it is never very far away from my home theater system. However I didn't have high hopes for the sequeals. I seriously doubted the first sequel would be as good as the first, and when I first saw Reloaded I left the theater dissapointed. Where the first movie could stand on its own, Reloaded could not. I am hoping that Revolutions properly completes the story laid down in Reloaded, and that when we finally see these last two movies together Back-To-Back, that we finally have the original epic that this has the potential to be.

CG gives alot more scope than you can with models and puppets
by tall_boy
its true. You couldn't get a pan across a huge plane right up to somewhere else with models and matte paintings. CG opens the scope of sci-fi films and lets the movie truly breathe. It may not have the depth and tactile nature of models on wires, but goddam if its done right it can be fucking epic.
-
"I watched Keanu watching and I suddenly felt it," explains Tarantino. "You know, my guys are all real. There's no computer f*cking around. I'm sick to death of all that shit. This is old school with fucking cameras. If i'd wanted all that computer game bullshit, I'd have gone home and stuck my dick in my Nintendo." and later continued; "This CGI bullshit is the death knell of cinema. Movies are far too fucking expensive at the moment and it's killing the fucking art form. The way it's going, in ten year's time it will officially be killed." You can check out the news story here: http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=2519
-
Yet I think it looks pretty fucking dope. A bit of "Aliens" (powerloader)and some Transformers The Movie(Unicron), but nevertheless this looks killer. Then again, I liked the trailer for "Reloaded".
-
We were duped once on reloaded.
I'm not falling for it again.
the trailers for that were also cool. we have just seen less than 2 min of a 2 hour plus movie. it could still suk.
also i cant help but think that they (WB, Joel silver, etc.) have shot themselves in the foot by releasing this just 6 months after Reloaded. theres no "hype" for this movie. all the hype went in front of Reloaded and the bad tase of that in still in our mouths. i dont know about you all but Return of the King is more in the forefront than Revolutions.
i predict Revolutions will be better than Reloaded but it will make less money.

Tarantino is an Asshole, What does he know about the ART?
by rcamacho2278
does he think using the F word every 15 seconds is art? Or the N word every 10 seconds Art? Does he thinkin slicing some guys head off or spliting some guy in half a work of art? The art here is not that Neo fought 100 CGI agents, its that the matrix is a fully realized world. A concept come to life. Like Lord of the rings. Tarantino does'nt know shit about what ART is in a movie, and he can go fuck himself
-
You know, I love all of Tarantino's films and will love Kill Bill but I do believe he is talking out of his ass. I would love to see Quentin make a movie with such a huge scope and size like the Matrix movies without using cgi. The stuff in Kill Bill is all ground based combat with an occasional flip or two whereas Revolutions will include battles and action involving thousands of squid-like machines, giant diggers and at least a hundred 20 foot tall mechs. Not to mention an air fight between Neo and Smith as they demolish everything around them. Oh, and the one scene that will have no cgi is the Hell Club shootout/fight where Morpheus, Trinity and Seraph take on some of the Merovingian's guards as they run along the top of the cieling!! It's just gonna be some of the craziest shit you will ever see attempted in a movie and we have the Wachowski's to thank. But, this is just the same old shit right? Been there done that? Yeah fuckin right!!

As I posted before. I wasn't sure I liked Reloaded until I saw it a second time. Fucking brillant.
Bring on Revolutions...like giving Angelina Jolie anal and then Jennifer Gardner sucks the rest of your cum...its going to be that good! -
hey, this is an old question but it bothers me - if anyone can help, well "that's great!" in reloaded, why do they have to enter the white hallway from that one specific floor of that one building, at that one time? the reason it bothers me is that when smith appears, the keymaker exits the hallway and enters again from a different door. wherever he was when he was between doors - couldn't they have started from there? i'm lost.
-
I've been coming to AICN since '96, and sometimes I just can't believe what I read here. I think it's why I don't like this place as much as I used to. I mean, back in the day, people would get pumped up when they saw shit like what was in this trailer. This is going to be a kick ass COOL movie. It's not going to cure cancer or change the world. But it would be cool. I get so sick of this LOTR vs Star Wars vs Kill Bill vs Matrix, like you are rooting for a sports team or something. It's OK to like them all. I told a buddy of mine last night, if back in 96 when I was in high school, and I saw a trailer like this new Matrix one, I would have had a heart attack and died. It is freaking awesome. And so will ROTK. And I also told him I'll be shocked if AICN gives the Matrix any kind of write up, because that's not what it's about anymore. I'll tell you what makes the least sense. Harry got pissed because the Matrix Reloaded didn't have, of all things, vampires and werewolves? And then Underworld came out, and he hated it, too. My head is still spinning after that one.
-
I haven't seen either one of these films and I already know that they cannot be compared to each other. What exactly did either of the first two Matrix movies have in common with Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown anyway? Not too much. How, then, can Revolutions blow Kill Bill out of the water or vica versa? There is so little in common here. No, martial arts is not a big enough dimension to lump these two into the sam basket. Kill Bill is for you and your frapucinno-drinkin, uptight, pretentioius friends. Matrix is for you and your little brother who is too young to see R-rated movies by himself.
-
The last two Martix movies have just made the mistake of a bit too much CGI. The scene in Reloaded with Neo in the clouds could have easily been done with wires and a green-screen and it would have looked a bit better. The real trick seems to be mixing CGI and in-camera elements so that the CGI is grounded a bit better in reality. That is what make Jurassic Park look so good to this very day. Fight Club was another movie that very effectively used CGI to better tell its story. As has been mentioned, it is a tool like any other and in the wrong hands it can be overly used. When done right, it can be magical however.
-
CGI was done better by others before the Matrix and will be done better after. The slow motion was done thru out fashion camera tricks. It is nothing revolutionary. 2001. Star Wars.
Jurrasic Park. T2. Toy Story. Those are revolutionary movies. -

What that etherial orange corridor and that etherial orange sen
by uncle sam
At the end of the movie, Neo realizes that the only way to save the human race is to become one with the code (remember the door to his left that the Architect mentionned?), thus enabling for a seventh Matrix to be created (the little Indian girl, Rama's daughter, is the REAL "One", the real savior of Zion, Neo was merely a statistical anomaly, the sixth and final one to have resulted from the inherent imperfections of the system). So that etherial orange stuff is the path which leads to the core of the system, to the initial code that generated the Matrix. Just a theory of mine.

Thanks for the link, that was some interesting reading. Maybe everyone should read that whole thesis just to rethink things a little. After reading that, I'm thinking people have to be really simple or really really smart to like Reloaded (I haven't seen it), but that leaves out quite a lot of people (which explains all the hate). To the fanboys bad mouthing the LOTR trilogy: go away. Just fling yourselves off a fucking cliff and dash your stupid, tiny minds into paste. Anyone who would even try and compare source material like Tolkien to the toilet residue that is the Warchowski's writing need not even be heard; you are too fucking stupid to live. Also, let's get a few things straight: The Matrix was a decent action film that stole images and concepts from other mediums and artists. Reloaded was dreck; absolute shit. The complexity some of you cite is nothing more than dense, poorly written psuedo-intellectual nonsense. The original film had an interesting concept but the horrid sequel pissed that down the proverbial drain, leaving fans with a silly, bloated mess of a movie. The only redeeming aspect to come out of this whole Matrix Trilogy thus far has been the Animatrix, a far superior collection of sci-fi shorts. That said, I hope Revolutions makes up for Reloaded's massive and total failure. However, even a A+ effort will still fall considerably short when compared to the achievement of Peter Jackson and his trilogy.
-
Reloaded clearly is incredibly misunderstood. People seem to think that the philosophy is innane and childish... that, is something I don't get. The idea of a choice being made before an action or event 10 years in the future is not an entirely new concept (think psychoanalysis), but it is nonetheless far more precient then so may of the angry Matrix despisers make it out to be. The idea that a human being living entirely through his dreams can wake up with a complete set of ideals, morals, insecurities and vulnerabilities is definitive to what the human 'soul' actually is: Electricity running through our body at breakneck speeds to form memory and motive where none previously existed, molding genetic ability and instinct into a unique individual. Everyone who thinks Reloaded merely threw huge words and Princeton philosophy at you in large chunks so as to "impress" the viewer simply gave up on thinking about what the film represents. The entire discourse on choice is very prevelant to modern day America. Consider this: most people who voice out opinions on Iraq, the Middle East, Religion in government, tax cuts, etc. have little real education on the matter. They read bits and pieces of news, maybe took a class a decade ago on a topic, but yet, they speak passionately and with great conviction that they not simply "know" the best solution from the worst, but more embarrassingly "understand" the situation. This is ignorance at its most pronounced and ugly. Yet, why do this? Because their prior life experiences and memories have yielded them a conscious were certain phenomena, either local or national, evoke an instinctive response. Ergo (for you matrix haters), most people in the world form an amazingly strong conviction on these issues with an unbeliveably limited amount of information. When the Merillvingian mocks Neo, he does so correctly: a superhero without knowledge is merely a tool for someone else to use, and Neo was pushed around all over the Matrix on "faith" in an Oracle. And yet, as the Oracle insuinated, in each situation he encountered he made a decision on what to do based on a partial understanding of both his abilities and their ramifications... The conclusion is that despite all the wonderous things he can do, he is like many of us: his life experiences dictate what or who he is, and until he understands the full gravity of the challenges facing him, and, more importantly, why he reacts the way others predict him to, he remains a simple tool, a weapon really, firing without purpose... Those of you you hated this film clearly feel that this allegory for human existence is simple and pedantic, but honestly, I think you closed off your own minds without any real thought on the issue. Shallow, anyone?

honestly man, I read what you had to say, I got it, I understood it, you could'nt have said it any better. I thank you for taking time out and writting that and reminding everyone just why the matrix remains the best science fiction film to date.

I'm psyched for Revolutions but it would REALLY own if....
by bullet_time
Jack Wilson from "Shane" did a cameo as the "spoon boy" but now with a rare disease that makes him age fast. You have to have continuity. ..............Anyway, he'd smile at the spoon and it would tie itself up in a knot. Then he'd drink some water from it. In fact, lets just take that scene and put it in a loop for about 90 mins and watch it get Oscars while I get blowjobs from dumb college sluts who miss their boyfriends back home.
-
am i the only one who think that? trailers are supposed to be a 2minute compilation of the most exciting moments ofthe movie, yet after 30 secs i was like when something cool's going to happen? Revolutions will surely have some kick-ass moments but nothing will repair the damage Reloaded made to this franchise. By the way i found the 30 secs of footage from ROtK much more beautiful and exciting than all the robots of the Revolutions trailer...
-
Thanks. I had to read it using the 'Architects' voice to experiance the full effect.
-
looked grand, still wondering about the eyes though
but, Kill Bill trailer=better
and so is
http://www.theonering.net/staticnews/1064605367.html
yes, much better -
But the ROTK trailer wins, in my opinion. I liked the Matrix trailer, but I waqs tunned by the ROTK trailer. Cheers.
-
....but the movie was still a mess. At least this time my expectations are low and I will enjoy the CGI/action scenes and not worry about the "story". I will be paying my $8.00 though and it will be worth it. This will be like Reloaded and will have some great scenes, but will not be a great movie overall.
-
and i don't know if i was either exited by it or underwhelmed
-
what in god's name are you talking about? go lay down
-
Remember... Ebert gave The Matrix 3 stars and Reloaded 3.5.

It's getting pretty chilidish guys, and isn't benefitting anyone.
In my opinion the trailer kicks ass, but I don't speak for everyone on the planet.
I have no problem with people dissing the Matrix films, but don't curse out a guy who has his own fricking opinion.
Being British I wouldn't know the exact protocol about this, but I thought you guys were meant to have freedom of speech. Does that apply to films?
Let's just cool it down.
PS... In my opinion Revolutions is going to go head to head with ROTK, feel free to disagree. -
...or shall I say the "retards who couldn't understand the films"???
Listen, everyone thinks they understood Reloaded... but guess what, you HAVE NO IDEA!!! Until you read this web page, you are not allowed to have a negative opinion about Reloaded.
This guy is a phucking genius! Be prepared to change your entire outlook on the trilogy:

I think Revolutions and ROTK are both going to be great films. What I think will make Revolutions a more satisfying experience is the thought provoking nature of the Matrix films and the complicated and dense world that the Wachowski's have created. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy seems to have a basic good vs. evil story with themes of courage against all odds and honour. The Matrix series just can't be pigeonholed and almost everyone who sees it takes something different away with them than anyone else. It was great after seeing Reloaded in the theater to come online and read all the different theories, it just made it that much more enjoyable. I will walk out of the theater after seeing ROTK and Revolutions amazed at the imagery in both of them, yet it will be Revolutions that I will continue to think about months afterward.

other than a few bad lines, the first MATRIX rocked in every aspect. like many others, my expectations were through the roof for RELOADED(and Joel Silver didn't help matters). WHAT DIDN'T WORK... 1)the first 40-odd minutes could have been edited down to twenty easily. 2)everyone seems to hate the "party/love scene" in Zion, but i really dug it. what i hated about that scene was Morpheus' speech, which was terrible on several levels. 3) the movie had worse dialogue than the first one, but what can you do? 4) the burly brawl... the Smiths looked excellent, but having the CGI Neo was sketchy. for alot of shots it works, but it wasn't up to snuff to be in close-up AND in slo mo. they were asking for it with that one. 5) there wasn't enough gunplay for my tastes. the lobby shootout in the first film was like John Woo on crack(and i thought HARD BOILED was John Woo on crack), i was expecting more of that. granted, the Wachowski's wanted to get away from the whole bullet-time thing, but still they could have some more stuff like the lobby scene. 6)the new agents were pretty lame, they had less personality than the other two with Smith in the first film. and they weren't memorable at all. granted, they are programs, But Smith was and is an awesome character. These agents were just brutes in suits. 7) the Architect... i've seen RELOADED 3 times now, and i have the jist(or is it gist?) of what he's saying, but i still have no idea what he's saying. does that make sense? overly complicated for no reason, this scene was a pain in the ass instead of being a revelation. the Wachowski's should have put away their thesaurus and held a few test screenings(as much as i hate test screenings, they should have tried it out to get an idea of how confused people would be. they still had final cut.). 8)it's too bad about the music in these movies(maybe not so much the techno, i just mean manson, rob zombie, etc.), more than anything it is going to date them badly in 10-20 years. to bring up the unfortunate trilogy comparisons, LOTR and STAR WARS(OT) are timeless. 9)the audience should have seen more of the imminent danger Zion was in, i didn't feel they were in true jeopardy and last but not least... 10)Sure Neo was powerful, but he didn't just go hog wild like i felt he should have. those guys in the mansion shouldn't have stood a chance. maybe if he had shot the bullets back at the thugs and killed them, only to fight more thugs. oh i dunno... rambling. someone earlier mentioned DRAGON BALL Z. and while i really dislike the show(too much like a soap opera), the fights kick ass. i was hoping Neo would be punching people through walls and such, but no luck. but what can ya do? damn expectations. WHAT WORKED... pretty much everything else kicked all kinds of ass. highlights... 1)Smith continues to be the best character in the MATRIX, even though he isn't as intimidating it this one, despite the fact he's multiplied. Smith also provides some good comic relief without being cheesy. Glad they brought him back. also, the FX for the cloned Smiths were excellent. 2)the Twins are this trilogy's Boba Fett, very cool and you don't see too much of them. 3)the burly brawl kinda pissed me off the first time i watched it, got too goofy for my tastes and the CGI Neo was like a rock in the face. but it gets better every time i see it, great build-up, great stuff. The shot of all the Smiths standing around after the fight is the funniest thing i've seen in quite some time. 4)the first time we see Neo fly(not counting the end of the fist film) kicks a good bit of ass. good stuff...... okay that just about does it. anyone think i hit the nail on the head or am i way off? basically i'm trying to throw in yet another geek's two cents without saying, "IT WAS SHIT!!! STAR WARS RULES!!!" or "IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER, LOTR BLOWS GOATS!!!". i sure don't think it's that black and white. here's hoping REVOLUTIONS kicks my ass through the back wall of the theater. the trailer seems to imply that it just might happen.

For the truth about the Matrix: Reloaded... every question answered and explained. It's a little lengthy but not too much and very well worth it. -Lino- -
Here's the deal: I think Galvatron's explanation of Reloaded and his theory of Revolutions is really cool and interesting, and if it turns out to be true, then Revolutions will be amazing. Unfortunately, I don't give the Wachowski brothers that much credit. Honestly, I think the guy on that site put more thought and effort into the story of the Matrix than the filmmakers did, and that he's probably reading too much into everything. The first Matrix film had an interesting concept and groundbreaking special effects, but the ideas were never as revolutionary or profound as many made them out to be. The Wachowskis borrowed from several other sources (anime, comics, Plato, more anime, etc.), and in the end created a futuristic version of The Truman Show. With Reloaded, they tried to be philosophically profound in hopes of "transcending the action genre" or whatever, but really all of the pseudo-intellectual ramblings of the characters never went beyond what you would learn in a typical high school Philosophy class. "For every cause there is an effect." "The machines depend on us, but we depend on them." "We're all here to do what we're all here to do." "You don't really know someone until you fight them." They're all pretty shallow statements designed to imply more meaning than they really have. In the end, I'll go see Revolutions hoping for the best, hoping that Galvatron's theory (or something equally clever) is correct, hoping that I'm wrong, hoping that there is some final great mind-blowing explanation for it all. I just won't be surprised if it all turns out to be "a matrix within a matrix" (or something equally lame).

Did anyone else notice the blue sky that was in the background at the end of the trailer. I thought that it was in the Matrix, but then I realized it couldn't be because it was a sub from the real world. And the sky that they always show in the real world is blackened. Wonder how this blue sky happens. Kind of reminds me of that Blue Sky on Mars thing from Total Recall.
The Belt Has Spoken! -
I just thought it sucked. I actually fell asleep more than once. I love how everyone who didn't like it "didn't uncerstand it." What a Reaload of shit. The first Matrix was a good, fun "B" movie, but not enough to base the First Church of the Wachowskis on. The Matrix had "B" list actors with a plot taken from The Terminator, Dark City, and Daniel F. Galouye's 1969 novel "Simulacron 3". Add in some Gap ad effects and viola! Where "Reloaded" went wrong is that it took itself too seriously. The Wachowskis tried to be profound, but it just comes off as pretentious. I'll probably pass on Matrix: Revolting...er I mean Revolution.
-
I will sacrifice my first born child to the Wachowski gods, because that theory, my friends, is the most mind-fucking piece of cinema we could ever see (assuming it's right). But if it's not, then I know it'll be something cool, though maybe not as equally. But, in the meantime, I have a first born child to create on the off chance that amazing theory is spot on!
-
All that money wasted on CGI and special effects and they grab the first stuntman off the street with dark hair. Don't believe me? Frame by frame the trailer to where Ted gets punched in the gut and sent backward into the white concrete wall. Ummmm, no, that's not Bill S. Preston, Esq. and it sure as hell isn't Ted "Theodore" Logan, it's just some random idiot who knows how to get punched and go flailing backwards. Pathetic, especially if it's so obvious that I noticed it.

Yup. Sure looks cool. Like a massive can of cinematic whoop-ass.
by noriko takaya
Problem is, the trailer for Phantom Menace looked like a massive can of cinematic whoop-ass, as did the trailer for Reloaded. And both of those movies had, to put it charitably, serious issues. I will reserve judgement until I see the actual film. I sure hope it isn't all style and no substance like the last one. Toppu o Nerae!

I love these people in the minority who think that Reloaded was great and the OVERWHELMING majority of people who thought it sucked are wrong. Clearly, Reloaded was a horribly flawed film which only appealed to those who are desperate to love it and overlook all its flaws. Revolutions will be more of the same Reloaded crap, and some people don't want to face the truth. At Revolutions will have some good scenes (as evidenced by the trailer). This will be a good film to shrink into a 20 minute highlight reel and just watch that.
-
So happy, saw this awhile ago. Actually from the Matrix: Reloaded PC game end credits, but very awesome to see again :)

When Morpheus is about to breath his last breath and there's a full closeup on his lips, and in his last breath he utters "Rosebud". THAT and THAT alone sums up the whole picture and its intent, really.

Can i just point out that the trailer for Reloaded looked pretty good too but turned out to be one of the most boring films of the last few years. It also had some pretty shoddy effects work if i recall correctly (i'm thinking of the fight between Neo and 100 Agent Smiths).

Sorry folks. This trailer just reminded me all over again how much I hated RELOADED. Loved the original to death, and RELOADED just broke my heart. I was depressed for days. When I saw it I thought "the critics MUST be wrong! The naysayers must be wrong!" But they weren't. I wanted to love RELOADED and went in with an open mind -- then I could not believe how unbelieveably bored, stupefied then downright angry I was as I watched the cinematic abortion that is RELOADED unfold. For all you cocksure fools who say we RELOADED haters will be there when it opens, guess what? YOU'RE WRONG. Maybe I'll catch this on HBO some day, but I will NOT contribute one cent of my hard-earned income to see this in theaters. I'll save my money for repeat showings of ROTK. I'm done with THE MATRIX. Can't even watch the original anymore. The sequel ruined it for me. Fuck this series. Oh yeah, and I cheered when "FINDING NEMO" edged past RELOADED to take the summer box office crown. A cartoon kicked your asses, Wachowskis -- and it deserved to.

i find this amusing: The people who say they will not see matrix reloaded in the theatres, because it is "a waste of money and will just be like reloaded." I can bet all my money, including my P.O.S honda civic that all of these idiots will go see matrix revolutions in the theatres. Those people who bashed reloaded will definetly go see revolutions in the theatre. Why? Because you people are looking for redemption, and something to be happy about. So please do not go on this board, thinking you are cool , stating you won't go to the theatre on November 5th, because the bottom line is....YOU WILL.
-
hey, did anyone else think that there would have been more wind on top of a speeding semi? the keymaker and morph and that agent practically chill up there with some cocktails. but if that, along with some 'hey that wasn't neo's face!' moments (which we'll see more of in revolutions, apparently) was my biggest problem with the flick, thats a good thing.
-
After seeing both the trailer after Reloaded that most people didn't want to wait around for so they could rush home, get online and tell everyone how much they thought it sucked, along with the newest trailer I have complete confidence that the last installment of the Matrix trilogy will put it in the same caliber of Star Wars' original trilogy. I have been a huge fan of the Wachowskis ever since I saw BOUND and they have continued to impress me not only with their bold sense of imagery, but their innate and masterful story-telling as well. The first Matrix did what the second Terminator did and took action films to the next level, on a significantly higher cerebral level. The second film did what Empire Strikes Back did--we had questions, but as for all these aforementioned loose ends--what is everyone talking about? It ended with loose ends because it had to, being that it was the second film in what we all knew was a trilogy. I don't think too many stones were left unturned and it's forseeable that the third and final installment will find resolution to the questions raised, but everyone is making it sound like there were too many questions raised that won't be answered. I disagree. I guess come November 5th, however, we'll all be back here with plenty more to say.

I think I like this guy, he almost has the same offensive flare I have when I go on one of my tirades on how good Return of the King is gonna be. BUT! you gotta do something more like this...THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS IS GONNA RIP YOUR MOTHERS THROATS ASUNDER WHEN IT STUFFS IT THROBBING CYBERNETIC COCK DOWN THEIR MOUTHS AND EXPLODES ITS LIQUIFIED HUMAN GOO INTO THEIR BELLIES YOU MATRIX HATING UNCLE FUCKING MASTURBATING IN FECES FAGGOTS! THIS MOVIE WILL RULE! There Sir Biatch, the next time someone flames the matrix, you give em hell, Like I do when someone flames LOTR. by the way, I happen to like both series, as you can tell from my nic. I just hate the star wars prequels.

You wanna know something and this goes to all you matrix fanboys out there I hated the first Matrix absolutely hated it there was not a shred of credibility there and than I saw reloaded because I got caught once again in that oh shit this looks amazing craze. saw reloaded said wow there was absolutely nothing that wasn't needed it's perfect. saw it again. realized it was just like Empire Strikes Back said cool not a bad idea. saw it a third time went ah nuts i just realized that it was bad and I noticed this happened with the original saw it once said wow this is amazing i've never seen anything like this before. saw it again and said the point of the movie was similiar to dark city (go see that movie and realize that it was made before the Matrix and let me know if the matrix is still the most original sci fi movie to date) saw it a third time and the glamour wore off. unfortunately what we have with these movies is just that all glamour no depth. none of that neo is a religious symbol or deep philosophical crap either plain and simple this movie was made like most comic books and video games for us losers who stay up to 4 in the morning playing ff or counter strike or even table top rpg's (gasp) such as myself when a seventh grader can understand the movie than the movie is pure crap philosophically speaking. Reloaded however while losing it's initial wow feeling has left me with a very real and positive outlook on life. here's why and i'm going to spoil it for ya cause quite frankly everyone here has seen the movie neo is not the savior plain and simple if keanu reeves is humanity's last hope count me out i'll commit suicide or help the machines or something. "Woah" is all I have to say. but i know that it will have a cheesy happy ending to appease to american audiences so don't worry neo isn't going to die him and trinity are going to live happily ever after. as a final note ever notice that the CG in Final Flight of The Osiris is actually better than that of Reloaded just a thought. peace my brothers and by the way Star 4 5 and 6 will forever with out a doubt be the best movie trilogy ever or maybe LOTR because let's face nothing is more impressive than the battle at Helm's Deep or the battles at Yavin Hoth or Endor.

Who cares what these geeks have to say about 'the best trilogy ever is..' Surely it's more important to ask the question 'Do they even know what they are talking about!' Answer, probably not. I include Harry in this as well. Look, Tolkien's book (remember that) isn't a S&S epic like Jackson's movies. It was an experiment in English grammar and language, addressing issues of linguistic complexity totally beyond the reach of the D & D fantasist's who seem to have adopted it as a sacred text. So you fan-boy assholes out there get excited about cool looking battle scenes, sweeping camera shots and CGI. Thats all these movies can do. Portray Tolkien's surface: myth, meaning and symbols of light and dark. Hey popcorn eaters! Didn't Lucas do that 20 years ago? So to Reloaded. What's the problem. You've got your pretty CGI and sweeping camera shots, your battle scenes and 'cool' hero poses. I guess the problem is that you just don't get it. Dumb ass talkbackers are forever writing about 'cod philosophy' (look it up) to cover up for the fact that they just don't get it. Hey, they are probably still trying to get your head around Donnie Darko? The Matrix movies ask some deeply profound questions. The fact that it is also a piece of Hollywood hyperbole is also all the more suprising. The 'collective unconscious' exerts itself in ways few will ever really understand. Sometimes you geeks don't know what you've got. Stop bitchin' about movies which are too intelligent for you. Take a break from your PCs and read some Jung. Life is bigger than this. That goes for you too Harry!

Its all over, the matrix films are no longer classics.........
by drripped!
.....why? because of the surprise element. The first matrix film was a classic because it was quite predictable, you KNEW neo was the one, you just wanted to find out how. Why? because the film made you CARE enough to find out. I saw once upon a time in mexico, TWICE, the other day, and thats as predictable as they come. great film. Now, people just wanna know whats next with matrix revolutions just out of ineterest. its like those bloody new star wars films, you wanna find out anakins turn to the dark side out of ineterest. to be honest we all KNOW, but we dont really care any more. we just wanna see how it happens. its like watching a bad film that is leading up to something, you think, fuck it I'll watch, but then, you'll never want to see it again (unless the ending kinda counterbalances everything). I just wanna see the next film because of the special effects now, cause thats all it has going. right now the effects are cool, but in 10, maybe even 5 years those FX will be shit and thats why those films will not be classics. classic films can NOT stand on effects alone. And like some one else said the crap sequel made the first one redundent, so even THATS useless now. Treat the next film as great eye candy, which it most certainly is judging by the trailer, and an interest of how it all 'ends', but any more than that and YOUR A FOOL.
