Zillamon51 takes aim at JEEPERS CREEPERS 2!

Hey folks, Harry here... Got this review in last night, I'm expecting some more in the upcoming days... I was supposed to see it last night, but a pair of dear friends are leaving Austin to suffer in servitude to Professor Moriarty in his Spa and Resorts... massaging the loose skin from his frail bones... ewwwww.... Now they're gone to the land of swimming pools and movie stars. They'll register to vote to make sure Arnold makes KING CONAN instead of wasting time in Northern California... yeesh...

Greetings AICN!

While I browse this site on a regular basis, I've never written in before. The name I use on the net is Zillamon51. My site is Digital Monster Island, which is dedicated to reviews of giant monster movies (especially Japanese kaiju eiga) on DVD.

I just got back from an advance showing of the new horror flick, Jeepers Creepers 2. Several cast members stopped in Detroit as part of a promotional bus tour a couple of weeks ago, and that?s where I got passes to this free screening.

Let me begin by saying that I really enjoyed the original Jeepers Creepers. It was an effective, well-made horror film. The Creeper was a fascinating new villain who had the potential to become a horror icon like Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger.

I went into JC2 wanting to learn more about the Creeper's biology and mythology. I was sorely disappointed. JC2 is nothing more than a brainless exercise in killing teens. Give Jason wings, and you have JC2. There are no sympathetic characters for the audience to root for. The few that had any potential in this area were never developed. The two young protagonists in the first film were believable and well-portrayed. The sequel contains nothing but a busload of obnoxious jocks for the Creeper to dispatch. There were a few story elements, like a farmer hunting the Creeper to avenge his son, which could have been interesting. However, they go nowhere. Ditto a girl who suddenly becomes psychic for no better reason than to explain to everyone what the Creeper is trying to accomplish.

Jeepers Creepers introduced a creature with a well thought-out physiology and a potentially fascinating history. All of that is abandoned in JC2 in favor of a meaningless exercise in special effects. I'm glad I didn't actually have to pay to see it.

But I suppose at least the trailer for JC2 doesn't lie to you like JC1. At least it doesn't make you think you're going to see a serious horror film this time and actually shows you the kinda crap you're gonna have to endure! With a few beers and zero preconceptions, perhaps JC2 might actually be mildy entertaining. It's not gonna be Freddy vs Jason though, which is the ultimate horror cheesefest!

The first movie was absolutely pathetic, why the fuck make a second one? i suppose there's a few mindless drone's out there who like shit thrown at them - afterall many people liked the horrible T3 - so it doesn't really come as a surprise. I suppose we can expect another 13 more Jeepers Creepers movies. Salva or whatever his name is a convicted kiddie fiddler and i will not support his movies whatsoever.

Remember in Texas Chainsaw 2 how the Dennis Hopper character was almost exactly the same? The probably figured, and rightly so, that since no one saw it why not take a good idea. Also, I thought the Creepier was gay?

It did scare me, possibly because I knew nothing about it before I went in and expected the brother and sister to die in the first act and then the real heroes to appear. This one sounds like crap though. And can someone please get rid of that off topic little wart godoffireinhell?

    by LoneChicken

Didn't the first movie get dumped by the studio in late August? Didn't that tell them that a second one wasn't worth making, and then dumped again in late August of this year? The first was ridiculously boring. At least they could have brought back that juicy Gina Philips chick somehow. She was the only thing worth watching.

The Music in JC was some of the best I'd heard in a movie for sometime. Extremely creepy and perfect to lift the second half a little, well until the Creeper went full Jim Henson crud. The best bit was the shot moving up and out from the lead actress as darkness threatened to swallow her up. Brilliant. Unfortunately, the film was far too mainstream and glossy by the end; a real missed opportunity.

    by marshalm

First of all, you ignorant asshole, get your facts straight before shooting your mouth off. Salva did not force anyone to blow him, he was the one doing the servicing. Secondly, the boy was not 12, he was 14. Thirdly, the kid lied about his age to get into the production in the first place. Salva thought he was 18, whcih would have made him legal. Believe me, when I was 14 I could easily have passed for 18. The Italian genes in me gave me facial hair, a deep voice and a tall lanky frame very early in my preteen years. The kid deliberately planned the whole thing in order to put himself in a position to exploit the director. You are probably a loser who has never experienced sex outside of your vaseline and wad of tissues, but rest assured tht a blow job is a very pleasurable experience so I don't believe for a second that he was traumatized for life by the whole episode. If a 24 year old girl gave a 14 year old boy a BJ, I guarantee no one would be throwing her ass in jail, nor would anyone boycott her films. This whole double standard thing is disgusting. Take your homophobic ass somewhere else and sport your pathetic rhetoric. you obviously have an agenda that does not include any remote sympathy for this poor, traumatized, abused "child". If a girl had blown him you would be green with envy and boycotting the kid's films now. People like you piss me off, you white trash retard.

As always the hype machine backfires.

    by JacknifeJohnny

I must admit that I bought into Jeepers Creepers w/ the assisted belief that it would be a fine antidote to the shit that the Craven/Williamson duo & their clones brought upon us, but alas...I was duped! Salva's personal shit is for him to sort out so I won't go there, but I will state that he wouldn't know horror if a fecal covered Peter Lorre clone dropped out of his asshole. The amount of support for films like Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2, The Ring, 28 days later, and the impending & unproven Cabin Fever make me very wary of horror's future(I was disappointed by all, save the unreleased Cabin Fever). I think the studio system is destroying any chance of truly balls to the wall horror finding it's way to the theater. Filmgoers and filmmakers are far to conservative for my tastes, and this feather weight attitude sadly keeps cinematic exploration to a bare minimum.

    by Lost Skeleton

It doesn't matter if a child is 14 or 12...stautory rape and child molestation are "strict liability crimes." That means, under the law in ALL 50 states, it does not matter what the child does, what gender they are; what clothing they were wearing, what age they told you- nothing. You are guilty if you had any kind of sexual contact with that minor child. People like marshalm are disgusting for their defense of this shit. R Kelly, Salvo and Roman should be burned at the fucking stake. Corrupting a child is as bad as fucking murder.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 2:37 p.m. CST

I actually enjoyed the first movie.

    by Psyclops

The problem with this movie is exactly what the reviewer said, they don't explain enough about The Creeper. What is he? How long has he been walking this earth? Are there any more of his kind around? Part of what made the first film so effective is that The Creeper came out of nowhere, he had no origin story, just this demonic creature that appeared out of thin air. I know quite a few people that hated the movie for that same reason but I actually thought it worked. If you were to run into something like that in the middle of the night on a deserted highway you wouldn't have time to figure out who or what was trying to eat you. The problem with the sequel is that they don't do anything different with the monster (except for the ending), a lack of backstory is okay for a first outing but you can't keep that up if you're going to start a franchise. JC2 is more of the same, the only difference is that there's more food for the monster this time.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 2:37 p.m. CST

What does his personal life have to do with his movies?

    by Phronk

OK, even if the director was Hitler, I'd still see his movies if they were entertaining. What these guys do in their own time has nothing to do with the quality of their movies. Judge the art, not the artist. And even if boycotting his movies caused him to quit directing movies forever, would you really have accomplished anything? Other than getting rid of some movies that some people really like? And if he is a sicko, will being out of work make him stop fondling little boys? I think not. This is like when the Dixie Chicks expressed their opinion so people stopped buying their music. What a bunch of dumbasses. Grow up.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 2:42 p.m. CST

by marshalm would appear I owe everyone here a collective apology. Upon further research I have learned that the boy was indeed 12 at the time, and was coerced into the act while Salva videotaped it and kept copies. Very odious behaviour indeed. I was under the impression that he entered into a consensual sexual act with a boy who simply lied about his age. It would appear that this is not the case. I now understand why there is such hostility towards the director. I still maintain that in any art form the work should be judged independant of its creator, but I can see why this situation is upsetting many people. My apologies to all concerned.

I must say that I LOVED the first 20 minutes of Jeepers Creepers. The relationship between the brother and sister and dialog was crisp and believable. And it was certainly weird that a film about a monster became decidely less interesting once the monster came on the scene.I liked the beginning and the dark ending, not much inbetween.

Jeepers Creepers 3: The Creeper Can Keep Herr goes

    by Hud

I do hope for the third installment in this "franchise," the Creeper gets a lady friend. Chucky got one. He comes home and dumps a sack of kids on the table, and Mrs. Creeper says, "What do you want me to do with those?"And he goes, "Dang it, girl, clean 'em. That's our dinner." She picks a still breathing boy up by the ankle and looks him over and mutters, "I didn't get married to spend my life filleting teenagers you know. I had plenty of other opportunities." Then she looks over her wings at her sagging behind and shrugs. "Well, maybe not," she sighs, and starts disemboweling the kids while watching TV and calling out answers to "Jeopardy" questions. It wouldn't be any less scary than this HALF-ASSED EXPLOITATION MOVIE!

an apathetic attitude about the abuse of children

is what allows a human like Salva to brutalize children. Pedophiles are incurable recidivists. They can't re-learn an empathetic response that they never posessed in the first place. They will continue to victimize others if they can get away with. Allowing Salva access to underage individuals as part of his job is nothing short of a crime. Also, homosexuality is not synonymous with pedophilia. Normal, well adjusted gay men prefer consensual sex with other well adjusted gay men. Perverse humans prefer sex with children. Check out and, make a difference. I post this in the small hope that a big stink will be created, and Salva will be run out of town. Finally, Creeper looks like a big killer moth. . . wow.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 6:10 p.m. CST

    Polanski facts.......

    by Doom II

He was a survivor of Nazi occupied Poland, he was first on the scene in 1969 to see his pregnant wife, Sharon Tate butchered and left laying in a puddle of blood by the Manson clan and he was accused of raping a 13 year old girl in 1979 (this accusation was questionable then AND now as Polanski said it was consentual as does the victim). Guilty or not, the man went through a lot of shit in his life. The director of Jeepers Creepers is in a different league of scumbags in my opinion.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 6:13 p.m. CST

    Quick question, Sir Biatch

    by Psychonaut

Not sure I quite follow you there, old boy. Perhaps you could explain how a grown man giving a blow job to a 12 year old boy is (as you seem to imply) worse than a grown man eating out a 12 year girl. I would suggest that they are about equal in terms of fucked up perversity

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 6:29 p.m. CST

    Accusations not that questionable, DoomII

    by Psychonaut

Polanski pleaded guilty to one of the charges (having underage sex) before he fled the US, so the accusations against him are, at least in part, on pretty solid ground if you ask me. Whether it was consensual or not is not really the issue, as Polanki knew the girl's age (13) so he knew he was both comitting a crime and doing something wrong (the two are not necessarily the same thing). He's certainly had more than had more than his share of horrific and, frankly, bloody awful experiences in his life, but these did not rob of him his ability not to have sex with children, and I have not heard of him making any statements of contrition or remorse for what he did. That having been said, I'm not sure that he could be described as a child rapist, as others in this talkback have done.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 6:45 p.m. CST

    No love for Polanski.

I admit it, I saw Chinatown before I knew anything. I loved it. Fact is, Polanski told the Girl's mother that he would be auditioning the girl. He drugged the girl and raped while she was unconscious. You can look all this up, don't take my word. No consent. No remorse. You think having your wife butchered gives you a free pass for child rape?!?! Fuck Polanski.

    Salva vs. The Dixie Chicks

    by Phronk

Guss: I wasn't comparing what they DID, I was comparing the public's response to it. Boycotting an artist's work because they did something wrong (what Salva did was clearly wrong, what the Dixies did depends on your opinion) will not accomplish anything. A poor, out of work Salva will still have a thing for little boys (if he's still into that). Hell, maybe he's taking his urges out by directing movies and taking that away will make it worse. Who knows. My point is that I think that a director's personal life should not determine whether I see a movie or not. This goes for Polanski too. At an awards show for movies, good directors should get standing ovations, not outstanding citizens.

  • Aug. 27, 2003, 8:18 p.m. CST

"Also, homosexuality is not synonymous with pedophilia." I beg to differ. Homosexuals are always trying to get into any pants they can, including those of children. And knowing that Salva has a history of pedophilia makes certain scenes in the first film, particularly the clothes fondling sequence and the one involving the "tonguing" of the cop's severed head truly disgusting. Nevertheless, the first 20 minutes or so of the first movie were absolutely brilliant.
